Content warning

Could you be so kind as to remove the content warning? I'm sorry but every time I copy and paste an Uncyclopedia onto a word document, it somehow winds up with the content warning at the beginning along with that stupid image of the ugly guy in the mask. Sorry but that's what I think Welcome to the machine MATTHLOCK 20:29, July 13, 2012 (UTC)

Sorry, I wasn't the person who put the content warning there - thank Wikia for that. Someone was good enough to change the content warning from the default to my suggested warning, that was my only role in the content warning, also, the background of the content warning has been changed from the default, but I have no admin powers nor any magickal wikia staff ability to remove any content warning. -- Simsilikesims(♀UN) Talk here. 23:17, July 16, 2012 (UTC)

Censoring Drawings etc

Hi Sims. I had the impression from Sannse that art work would be exempt (for now at least) as regards censoring. I presume this would also include drawings and diagrams. I noticed you have already censored a few which I think would be allowed to stay. In particular the 'nude man and woman' image is the one on the Voyager spacecraft. --LaurelsRomArtus*Imperator ® (Orate) 19:33, October 17, 2012 (UTC)

I wasn't sure, I thought she said "classical artwork". I hope you are right, feel free to revert where you think I made a mistake. -- Simsilikesims(♀UN) Talk here. 19:35, October 17, 2012 (UTC)
OK I will revert the ones I am going to interpret as art work/drawings etc and then see. The issue of the photos I don't know still. To have an article about Playboy magazine and then to censor it, image wise doesn't make sense in my view, otherwise having censored photos all over it is like Wikia adding their own unwitting 'humour' angle to the page. However, I will leave this for now and let the others decide. --LaurelsRomArtus*Imperator ® (Orate) 19:45, October 17, 2012 (UTC)

I heard you might have a broken computer or two

I might be able to fix that, remotely. Unless it's a physical problem, in which case no. But I can almost guarantee I can speed it up. What OS(s) do your computer(s) run? A (Ruins)15:11 17 November 2012

The computer that's broken runs Windows Vista. The problem isn't just it being slow, which could be attributed to the fact that the hard drive is nearly full, but that it won't boot at all, not even into safe mode, when it is plugged in. It starts up normally when unplugged and running on battery power (Its a Toshiba Satellite notebook, and about 5 years old). It is currently not connected to the internet, I'd have to plug in a cable or hope that the wireless signal on my router isn't borked. -- Simsilikesims(♀UN) Talk here. 20:02, November 17, 2012 (UTC)

Cupcakes

Bizzeebeever nominated this on VFD. I saw your limited role in the History and abstained with a request that you take charge of the article. Spıke ¬ 15:09 23-Nov-12

Thank you for (possibly) stepping up to rewrite this. Your description (on VFD) of what is needed, I agree with. Let me know if I can assist you. Technically, the new article's name should probably be Cupcake, singular. Spıke ¬ 02:18 25-Nov-12

Origins?

Quaker Eat Me

I'm thinking it was the voracious William Penn who invented the cupcake, in colonial America, inspired by his underendowed wife (whose name his writings only give as "Cupcake"). It was originally known as the D-cup Cake. Separately, you describe it as a muffin-sized cake, but wouldn't a muffin be a cupcake-sized...nah, forget it. Spıke ¬ 02:57 25-Nov-12

Yikes!

We already seem to have an article at Cupcake, though people since November 2008 have been mostly cleaning off stains left by Anons. You could treat this as another source for material for you to make excellent. Spıke ¬ 18:02 26-Nov-12

Hello

I saw you down the hall here, and wanted to say 'yo. It will be worthwhile to keep lots of this site running again, just to keep the lights on is probably enough. Hopefully lots of users will be going between the two wikis and making both of them the best possible uncyclopedia. It might be fun when a few of the others are on once the weekend passes. We have to get Funnybony to use recent changes and hang out with people. Puppy, he's probably asleep. Aleister 23:14 Uncy's 8th Birthday!

Unless they make me an admin on the new site, there will probably be more for me to do over here than over there, since I'm not much good at writing new articles. I can't see letting this site go down the tubes, it might be bad for the reputation for the new site as well. If things get bad enough, I might try writing a mediocre article (since there probably will be no more FFW on this wiki) once in awhile, then copy it to the new wiki just to see if it gets deleted. This site is likely to become a target for bandcruft and schoolcruft pretty soon, along with various listcruft. Since the most avid deletionists are mostly gone (except for SPIKE) probably nothing will be done about it. -- Simsilikesims(♀UN) Talk here. 23:35, January 5, 2013 (UTC)
Well, we don't know if it will tip over from its own weight or if critters will roam the halls. You are right, at least I think so, if the site gets overrun it may be bad for both sites. But it's way too early to tell what's going to happen, a couple of weeks should see the trend firmly in place. I intend to check "my" pages though, and revert the animals who creep just before dawn. And we should do a forest fire week, for sure, and get rid of things that are really bad. At least some of them. I think what might happen at some point is Wikia will close the site to IP's, and maybe eventually it will be like a museum, just as I predicted in Uncyclopedia is almost full!!! Al 23:43 5-1-'13
As you can both understand, this has been a busy weekend! The Wikia Uncyclopedia will continue, in what shape that will be is up to the users. Myself and ChiefjusticeDS have opted to maintain this site. As you can imagine, there is still a lot of dust in the air so it may take a few more days to see where everything (and everyone) has landed. Thanks. --LaurelsRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 00:30, January 6, 2013 (UTC)

For the rollbacks, welcomes and general all round good egg work here. --LaurelsRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 23:37, January 9, 2013 (UTC)

You're welcome. I plan on hanging around both sites, depending on my work schedule. Besides, having this site stay halfway decent will help convince people who visit to check out the new site, too. This site is still predominant on search engine results, since Google pulls key search words from the content warning on this site. -- Simsilikesims(♀UN) Talk here. 23:47, January 9, 2013 (UTC)

HowTo:Drive your car out of a lake

It looks like Murder Frog has dibs on your Pee Review, but I'll give you my two cents. This is refreshing. HowTo is normally a namespace for kids who think that adult writing has to be nagging, and they nag. This is the most playful HowTo I can remember.

Biggest problem: The article is too short, by at least half. There are many places to go with this one, and you'll find them.

On photos, DHL Express has one that might be of use to show corporate training programs on driving cars out of lakes.

Wording: The intro ought not refer to the article itself; that's almost the first person. I'd minimize the use of "you" for the "encyclopedia" tone. That's just my style and yours might be different, but if you then break out of it and address the reader directly, it might pack even more punch.

You might do a treatment of common ways that cars get into bodies of water and need to be driven out, but it's pretty funny to just take it for granted that it always happens. ("I hate it when that happens!") "You will want the car to sink" is too gentle; in fact, you need the car to sink. "Hopefully" (as well as not meaning anyone is hopeful, as always) detracts a little from the authoritative tone.

Possible additional topics: If your engine isn't waterproof, how to waterproof it (newsprint? spray it with paint? guess you can't). Useful applications for a car if you find you can't drive it out (man-made coral reef). Underwater features on the map? What are the usual underwater obstacles you'd have to drive around?

Keep having fun with this! Spıke ¬ 01:24 4-Dec-12

I renamed this HowTo, as shown above, to eliminate excess capital letters from the page title. Also, Imrealized has contributed and left an explanation to you on the talk page of the HowTo. Cheers. Spıke ¬ 13:15 29-Jan-13

Thanks for letting me know. Work has kept me busy lately. -- Simsilikesims(♀UN) Talk here. 06:40, January 30, 2013 (UTC)

Promotion to Major

Although nobody cares since Rev. Zim ulator abdicated, you have been elected Admin, have been praised as a calming and helpful influence on the website in a strategic timezone from which to swat down vandals, and are thus entitled to the rank of Major of Uncyclopedia. This is likely to be a multi-step promotion and carry a significant percentage increase in your monthly stipend, and you know what they say about five percent of nothing. I have already sewn my own stripe on (as, again, nobody cares) and the bleeding should subside real soon.

Thank you for your vote for me, and for the reservations you expressed. If you see them play out, I hope you will be as willing as you have been in the past to let me know how it looks or give me a subtle hint (after first removing the spiked heel, please) to tone it down.

Congratulations to you both, and I expect to be banned by each of you many times in the near future. My company of vandals, who communicate via email and meet at a pub every two weeks, will now target you two as a welcoming committee to the ranks of the exalted. Every effort will be made to destroy this dump and to place NSFW templates on all the Furby articles, and our vow is to keep on doing so until nobody, anywhere, wants to ever look at a Furby again. Aleister 12:36 4-2-'13

PS--Simsie, I've added your name to Active Admins--where you are uniquely without further description. Correct this if you wish. Spıke ¬ 12:44 4-Feb-13

Congrats Sims. The welcome pack will explain more...mine came with different coloured ban sticks and Nicole Scherzinger chained to a radiator. It may have been updated since then. --LaurelsRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 17:29, February 4, 2013 (UTC)

Off-site stuff

I would like the page http://mirror.uncyc.org/wiki/Rossall_School to be deleted. The page is showing up in Google searches and is derogatory to the School. It's also out of date and would only be funny to pupils of this school who attended more than 6 years ago so adds no comedy value to your site. Thanks --62.6.160.99 09:35, February 19, 2013 (UTC)

The best way to contact admins for other sites is on those sites. I'll have a look at that shortly.                               Puppy's talk page09:49 19 Feb 2013
I've had a quick look at the page. Being “derogatory” to an institution is not a basis for a page to be deleted - this site is based upon satire after all. Being listed on searches in Google also is not a reason to delete an article - in fact if it attracts more site traffic there is a benefit to it's continued existence. Being out of date is a mild concern, but as the mirror site is a repository - in part - of older articles, timeliness is not a major concern. Being based upon in-jokes is a concern, but a cursory reading suggests that someone who is not part of that clique may get some amusement from it. However, that's only on a first read basis, and there are definite elements of stupidity that put this article well outside of our style guide for humour - HTBFANJS. As this is a quality control judgement on a lengthy piece, however, I will read it fully before making a decision - which means it will take time, and is not a high priority concern. If you wish to discuss this particular piece in more detail please contact me via my talk page on that site.                               Puppy's talk page10:22 19 Feb 2013
I looked over the page, and it hasn't been edited for some years now except by anons, and they haven't improved the article at all. It looks like material that would be quickly VFD on this site, and has had an ICU tag on it for years. I did not find the page terribly funny, so I have deleted it. Please note it will still show up on internet archive sites and caches for some time, nothing we can do about that.-- Simsilikesims(♀UN) Talk here. 23:45, February 19, 2013 (UTC)

Quote stuff, brought here per Spike's suggestion

This page shows what combining George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Ben Franklin's unquotables into one page would look like. All three of those pages are short, Thomas Jefferson's is particularly stubby.

Unquotable:History of Unquotablelooks like vanity, aka some user giving his personal story as a persecuted artist. This might be QVFD bad, but since I am cleaning quotespace, taking to QVFD without contacting someone in favor of keeping quotespace seems underhanded.

on Unquotable:Aristotle, there is an exchange between Alexander the Great and Aristotle that is a parody of star wars text. While it is mildly amusing, I don't think it goes on a quotepage. It feels like it might go somewhere, but that is a script, not a quote. --Mn-z 18:05, February 21, 2013 (UTC)

I added History of… to VFD. This means there is a community consensus on it, rather than single user decision. It has been around too long, and is of a sufficient length, and is intelligible enough that it's not really QVFD anyway. There's an exchange on Unquotable:Captain Oblivious as well, which I left in there as I liked it, but I've kept it out of the quote-like template. Technically a passage from a script is still a valid quote - that's done with Shakespeare regularly - so if it's not long enough to warrant an Unscript of its own I'd just leave as is. (Saying this prior to looking at it, btw.)                               Puppy's talk page10:27 21 Feb 2013
Combining the George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Ben Franklin unquotables into a Founding Fathers unquotables looks like it works better than the individual pages did. I would be in favor of it. On Unquotable:Aristotle, I agree the dialogue looks like it doesn't belong there, and being a knockoff of Star Wars, isn't terribly original either. The History of Unquotable is something I'd hate to see go, since it helps explain the origin of quotespace. It is kind of like an old in-joke, but probsbly before either of our time here. It explains how and why quotespace was created, and does so effectively. It could be funnier, but it is what it is. -- Simsilikesims(♀UN) Talk here. 00:51, February 22, 2013 (UTC)
We seem to be unanimous on the Founding Fathers reorg. Simsie, my only concern was that, since you have opposed nuking the namespace, an opinion that with our sparse numbers makes it hard to claim consensus, no one do major reorg that might seem to be working around you but rather keep you in the loop. On History of Unquotable, as I say at VFD, this does not read like the heritage of Uncyclopedia, but as though it belongs on some user's personal page. Spıke ¬ 01:01 22-Feb-13
On the contrary, this does seem like a small chapter in Uncyclopedia history. Uncyclopedian history necessitates mentioning the various authors. Since this is biased mostly towards one author, if you want to move it to Some User's userspace though, go ahead, since that user claims most of the credit, but please don't delete it outright. -- Simsilikesims(♀UN) Talk here. 01:07, February 22, 2013 (UTC)
That sounds like a solution. Spıke ¬ 01:10 22-Feb-13
I have an alternative option, but not one I'd suggest here. History of Uncyc pages should fit into the Uncyclopedia name space. That's separate from the random page search (which is one of my concerns), but can remain linked to mainspace articles (which is my concern for user spaced stuff). Uncyclopedia:Der Unwehr was moved recently under exactly that rationale. I wouldn't suggest it for this specific page, as I still think this falls short on QC, but it's an option that we can keep open for similar cases in the future.                               Puppy's talk page10:54 22 Feb 2013

Wheeling Jesuit people

Four votes to delete an article, especially given no votes to keep it, is lately our threshold. I want to hold off on executing a deletion of this magnitude until Aleister responds to my request (under Comments) that he make a gallery of photos he thinks should survive; otherwise I would normally delete them too, as orphaned.

Imrealized votes to keep History of Unquotable, writing "I fight for Some user." I ask him on his talk page to vote instead on the merits and consider joining the consensus you proposed. On that consensus, Mnbvcxz's silence might be an oversight, but he might concur if you asked him, as all he is out to do is clean up the space, not extinguish the memory of the creator. Romartus might opine on it sooner or later, sooner if you asked him to. Spıke ¬ 02:39 23-Feb-13

I voted to delete History of Unquotable before Imrealized voted to keep it. --Mn-z 05:34, February 23, 2013 (UTC)
Yes, Mnbvcxz, but what is your opinion of userspacing History of Unquotable? Usually the delete vote comes before the keep vote because that is how VFD nominations work. Which vote came first generally does not matter. -- Simsilikesims(♀UN) Talk here. 07:49, February 23, 2013 (UTC)
Userspacing the page of an inactive user would be an admin decision. As a rule, we allow anything in userspace that is not libelous, commercial spam, insulting to other users, et cetera. The article in question is a personal history, which is allowable in userspace. However, the user in question has been gone for 2 years, and made 60-odd edits in the last 6 years. I do not care if it userspaced or not, I simply want it out of mainspace.
Tl/Dr: don't care. --Mn-z 08:01, February 23, 2013 (UTC)
It is an important page in the history of uncyclopedia, and is a very detailed history of an important event. See my comments on the nomination itself, in both voting to keep and adding to mnbvcxz's vote comment. As for deleting pictures, I'm not going to spend time making a gallery, why not just keep all the pictures if they are good? Spike can't see pictures on his computer, but deletes them. Seems counter-productive, and non-counter ironic. Aleister 8:32 23-2-'13
I agree it is important to the history of Uncyclopedia, and I think it belongs in Quotespace, but am willing to compromise if all other users want it gone to have it userspaced. I think we don't have consensus on deleting History of Unquotable since both Aleister and Imrealized want to save it. Not a dessert indeed. Anon is taking a term that exists, and his "humor" is Harlem = African-American = chocolate. If you think that's enough to go on, fine; thanks for concurring on his other three. Spıke ¬ 23:11 25-Feb-13

I give you more belated comments on your rewrite on my talk page. It seems you not only have knowledge of the subject, but a history with them so detailed that I'm surprised that you, too, didn't include a section to recruit Uncyclopedians for murder missions! I went in afterward and tried to say what you said in more light-hearted language. Also, photos would still be a plus. Spıke ¬ 16:58 6-Mar-13

UnNews:Quebec outlaws pasta

Your new UnNews should be started in userspace. Some people even start work in the UnNews: space and no one complains, much. But it doesn't belong in mainspace (although probably no one will stumble upon it). If you would like me to move it so as to have a realistic newsy headline, just ask. Spıke ¬ 16:58 6-Mar-13

Yes, please make it more "newsy". I am still a beginner when it comes to writing UnNews, but I saw the news article and just couldn't resist. Feedback on the article would be welcomed. -- Simsilikesims(♀UN) Talk here. 17:01, March 6, 2013 (UTC)

This is done. Never forget the photo (we steal from the Source with impunity). I added details on Loi 101 from working on Quebec (and sometimes vacationing there). Save a link to this to look at the right order for templates. You're right that this story, as I sometimes say, "wrote itself," true for most cases involving the Language Police.

Most important, your draft ended with a perfect zinger: Italian wines. This ended an absurd story with a hint of the even more absurd. But you left it as a vague first-person remark to our "listeners" when it begged to be fleshed out a little. Spıke ¬ 17:42 6-Mar-13

Thank you! I was wondering how on earth to "flesh this out", but as usual you worked your UnNews magic on it. I have only been to Quebec once, and that was with my French club in high school. ---- Simsilikesims(♀UN) Talk here. 17:47, March 6, 2013 (UTC)

Romartus has been in since his illness, but he hasn't freshened up UnNews in a week, so I put Quebec/pasta "above the fold," something Funnybony used to wear on the user page like a badge of honor. Spıke ¬ 02:54 7-Mar-13

Racial Epithet

I would like to inform you that I do in fact know that adding the VFD template does not nominate the page to be VFDed, I just wanted to increase the articles chance of being deleted. --Rrraaattt (talk) 03:31, March 9, 2013 (UTC)

If you want an article to be deleted you need to add it to VFD. If you are unable to add a page to VFD it is generally due to not being autoconfirmed. Which in short means you need to be here for a week or so and be used to making edits before you can add it. If you want someone to add it on your behalf then you should ask.                               Puppy's talk page04:38 09 Mar 2013

Template:PBS

The Anon you reverted slapping {{PBS}} on an article also slapped it on half a dozen others (now also reverted), and reasserted his large addition of text at Arthur after you deleted it, so I banned him for a week. Looking at his specific edits--including edits in userspace--he is very likely yet another sockpuppet of PBS freak, whom Zim ulator permabanned.

Also, don't bother clearing out VFD. I just closed out some of the votes this morning, so let the results show for the rest of the day and I'll archive it tonight.

Jeanie Du Toit

Sorry to huff this after you tagged it. I was posting to the author's talk page at the time. There is a copy of the article at the author's user page that can be developed if the goal really is humor. Spıke ¬ 12:10 15-Mar-13

This article was really too short and unpersuasive to be true advocacy in my opinion, and read more like a Wikipedia article, except with a point of view. Points of view should be ok here as long as there is humor. -- Simsilikesims(♀UN) Talk here. 12:13, March 15, 2013 (UTC)

To me it depends on what the point of the article is, and not how long it is; and I saw no humor except possibly the aviator's quote, and who knows whether that is truth or satire? I saw no point in this paragraph except to deliver readers to the website in the footnote. As I say, the author retains a copy for development.

By the way, Anon spammed "We are the best, look for us in the future" at Hi as well as the dummy userpage you saw, overwriting an existing redirect. One more and he should be gone. Spıke ¬ 12:17 15-Mar-13

The part about bringing a lucky potato was funny, but overall the paragraph could use more laughs. The website in the footnotes should have been unnecessary, and overall I was ignoring it. I will keep an eye on the anon in the meantime. -- Simsilikesims(♀UN) Talk here. 12:23, March 15, 2013 (UTC)

You elected to tag this and I'll defer to you and mark it Patrolled; but it seems to be Anon's humorless description of a team anthem of a sports team outside the English-speaking world. I detect little notability and no humor, and would have huffed it outright. Spıke ¬ 21:15 17-Mar-13

I considered it borderline, so erred on the side of caution and kept it as under construction. I was hoping more substance will be added to this article, and a lot more humor. -- Simsilikesims(♀UN) Talk here. 01:14, March 18, 2013 (UTC)

Very well. In other news, I slapped a 1-day ban on the belligerent Anon who was edit-warring with both of us at Thorpe Park. This is a whack-with-a-feather compared to your first ban of the session (perhaps I am still thinking about rebukes from MrN and Frosty about driving away our next Shakespeare) and you can increase the term if you see fit. I'd let Citizenplain keep working; his Change Summary explains the large deletion, I looked at his changes and gave him support on his talk page. Thatguywiththeglasses

I've banned TheGayReaper for a week, second offense, for persistently trying to insert blurry amateur photos, probably of family members, into articles, whether or not they belong or are funny. Reviewing his contributions, they include unused photos of a local high school and apparent playground chums (I seem to recall we already deleted the article over notability); and The Angry Grandpa, abandoned for a month after a {{Fix}} tag by Romartus, and mostly not an original humor creation but a digest of a YouTube performance, which I have deleted on the maintenance tag. Thatguywiththeglasses does not have a maintenance tag, but looks like another effort more to describe a YouTube meme than to write original humor, though there is a tiny bit of it. What do you think? Spıke ¬ 22:01 18-Mar-13

I've watched a few of his videos, and an article about him is as valid as an article about Angry Video Game Nerd, or Leonard Maltin. There is also a page on him at Wikipedia, so he is notable enough for them. The quality of the article, however, suggests that it's VFD material.                               Puppy's talk page10:16 18 Mar 2013

Deletion of K2 Effect Page

I don't understand why you deleted the new page K2 Effect. I know that Uncyclopedia is not Wikipedia's "trash bin." This article was never on Wikipedia in the first place. Just because it is official-sounding doesn't mean it's real. The K2 Effect is a JOKE. That's what makes it funny. Could you undelete it please? NetCast (talk) 01:46, March 20, 2013 (UTC)

I was about to restore the article when you recreated it. Usually recreating a deleted article is grounds for a ban, but since I was about to restore it, this will be an exception. -- Simsilikesims(♀UN) Talk here. 02:14, March 20, 2013 (UTC)

K2 Effect

It could be that that's how this guy does humor. A subterranean ham radio station? Depth below ground plus radio waves throwing off one's biological clock? Horribly subtle, and the naming of undergraduate students made me suspicious, but perhaps able to be polished. Or perhaps he doesn't know this is a humor wiki; he does a lot of work burnishing his personal credentials and personal business on his user page. Spıke ¬ 01:58 20-Mar-13

Ok, I'll restore the article and add a WIP tag. It looked too short to survive on first examination. -- Simsilikesims(♀UN) Talk here. 02:12, March 20, 2013 (UTC)

PS--I didn't read the previous section when I typed this one. NetCast, it is restored, but please accept the clear feedback that the first person to read it couldn't see the humor and the second (me) was in serious doubt. Needs more work. Spıke ¬ 02:15 20-Mar-13

Thanks. Understood. There's a whole subculture that can relate to this and I'm hoping that some of them can step it up and add to this article once they see it. NetCast (talk) 02:44, March 20, 2013 (UTC)

No sale; that's what the videogamers and punk-rockers tell us too. Please don't write to your own "subculture" but read these hints and add the necessary material to make it funny too for general users of the English language. Thanks. Spıke ¬ 02:49 20-Mar-13

I briefly communicated with the author, VivianFaberfox, on this one. If what happened is that the {{Fix}} ran out, very well. She may have abandoned it in the belief that randomness is not a winning formula here, and she is right. Spıke ¬ 00:17 22-Mar-13

The fix tag was actually removed with the same message she posted to your talk page. Maybe I will restore the article with a fix tag again since it hadn't actually run out (it was tagged March 2nd or so). -- Simsilikesims(♀UN) Talk here. 00:19, March 22, 2013 (UTC)

Wow, amazing blog format!

Comments like this, especially as a new and pointless talk page (notably, in Category talk, Template talk, and even the redundant Forum talk), are neither the work of someone who actually thinks we are a blog nor an authentic attempt to communicate. They seem to be an attempt to plant content-free but realistic-looking pages in the wiki. The only point I can see is to let someone measure how long it takes us to remove them. So I would not have Assumed Good Faith, although bans don't matter as most of these guys easily switch IPs. Spıke ¬ 13:30 24-Mar-13

You Have Been Abducted

Hi, Cat; I'm an Admin too, a development you once encouraged on the Chief's talk page (though you were apparently hiding beneath your desk when the actual voting was taking place). So, will you stick around and give us something to administer (or at least someone to ban)?

Simsie, on the above article, I patrolled it and thought Anon had it right. The last section, which seemed to segue from abduction to preparation for rape, was more sinister than the foregoing; also, this is not an "article in the style of the thing it's about." It would be if You Have Been Ransomed were typeset in the form of a ransom note; this article is merely an article written in the first person.

Also: Yesterday we had an epidemic of new users creating all-new and thoroughly bad pages. If this was a class assignment, it wasn't no film students at UCSC. Things have calmed back down today. Spıke ¬ 19:10 26-Mar-13

The only access to the internet I had yesterday was on my mom's computer, and I didn't have time enough to patrol this site since mainly I was helping my dad renew his driver's license online (didn't work since he was too old to renew online) - thanks for covering the site. I will go back and fix You Have Been Ransomed back to eliminate or rework the last section. -- Simsilikesims(♀UN) Talk here. 19:29, March 26, 2013 (UTC)

Things were under control except that I had a heavier-than-usual hand on the Huff lever--and the only guy I talked to about it didn't even ask for a private copy. But thanks for giving the article a second look. Spıke ¬ 19:35 26-Mar-13

The second chance

No problem at all on changing my permaban of Parodyparadox. But I feel he is only here to get someone to pay personal attention to him, likewise Flyingbird, who apart from his foray into editing the policy manual, has done nothing here in three months except flip one illustration back and forth, and above all Dannyboy1209, who has only made demands, claimed awards, and made edits that demanded instant revert. To paraphrase George Will on Jay Carney: There are certain things I will do for comedy and this website, but take him seriously is not one of them. It is as though the Fork were leafletting with our URL at elementary schools. Your moderating influence is welcome, 'cause I'm fed up at the moment. Spıke ¬ 22:09 28-Mar-13

New users do need a certain amount of attention, since they don't know how things are done around here. I am seriously considering suggesting the fork to Dannyboy1209, since he likes attention and there are more people there to pay attention to him and mentor him better than you or I could do. Better yet, he should go on IRC, where getting attention is the main focus. I interpreted Parodyparadox' creation of the forum as a request to the community for help, since he is new here, he doesn't know how few of us are left as regulars to give feedback at any given moment. Unfortunately, his contributions so far have been crap, but I am still hopeful that that may change. New users may be young and think that things are funny that really aren't (playground or potty humor), if we can help them grow up and develop a more refined sense of humor, they may become useful contributors. I've seen worse on the mirror site, so I think there may be potential since knowing one needs help is the first step in improving. Creating comedy means taking risks. Banning someone for asking for help is a bad move, in my opinion. But banning someone for vandalism is the correct move, thus I explained on the forum that the edit was vandalism. -- Simsilikesims(♀UN) Talk here. 22:24, March 28, 2013 (UTC)

Unlikely that my ban message suggested that asking for help, as opposed to inputting a schoolyard anal sex song parody, was the reason for the ban, but in any case your message clarified it. Regarding sending guided missiles to the Fork, that still qualifies as "using Wikia resources to steer traffic away from Wikia," with a touch of malevolence to boot. Not that the same "disposition" hadn't occurred to me. The Fork may be doing exactly that to us; or it could be a deliberate effort from Darthipedia or wherever ED went. Or some nun may have found a way to tranquilize her cares during Detention Period.

I share your belief in the ability of people to learn, given a patient teacher; but at the moment do not share your willingness to teach a limitless stream of them. February here was a month of good new stuff and unprecedented collegiality. These last two weeks have been Romper Room. Spıke ¬ 23:54 28-Mar-13

Patrolling

You caught one half of a paired spam I thought I had deleted. There is one guy who posts identical (generally nonsense) text to identical articles in mainspace and userspace, always of the form NameSurname999. So I only quibble with your Change Summary advising this guy to log in before editing userspace; he has no intention to, and in fact can change his IP as fast as we ban it (but his twofers yesterday and today suggest he will not do so until we do ban it).

Puppy has called me and Romartus out, and it's now my turn to call you out: Puppy, I, Snippy, and maybe you work from the exclamation points in Special:RecentChanges; reverting clears them, but undoing doesn't. When you deal with a message via undo, by tagging it, or by talking to the user, explicitly marking his edits as "patrolled" will save others the need to visit them.

I was out at a baseball diamond today, but I should be on the site intermittently all day tomorrow. Spıke ¬ 01:27 31-Mar-13

Good that you'll be on tomorrow, since I may be away most of the day. I am trying to get better about marking edits patrolled, but sometimes I forget. Lately my shoulders and arms have been acting up so I haven't been on as much as I had hoped I would be when not working. I have seen IP's who post the same spam in userspace and in mainspace, but I hadn't seen the mainspace version in this case, and it didn't link to an external site, and seemed to have a potentially noncommercial theme (I hadn't seen the duplicates that you deleted of this yet) thus I left the change summary advising him to log in. -- Simsilikesims(♀UN) Talk here. 01:38, March 31, 2013 (UTC)

Overnight

You wait long enough before going to bed and you will find that I am waking up! But 3 a.m.? Someone's Form 1040 is going to have errors!

I reverted the remainder of WOG's edits unread, on the strength of the ones you and I saw, and banned him for a year. (I know you hate permabans.) I had reached out to him, then you, and with specific comments, and he bulled forward. He was not here to work as a team but to "mark" a large number of pages.

Sweet dreams! Spıke ¬ 10:28 1-Apr-13

Don't worry, I am "on call" tomorrow, and my bets are on the phone not ringing, as it has not the last 2 weeks. Thanks for patrolling WOG's edits - I had switched my preferences to the "Wikia" skin since I got fewer errors that way while leaving the April Fools joke Frosty left for us in place, which made finding recent changes and patrolling edits MUCH slower. I was about to change it back after I saw Al's message to you but you beat me to it. Oddly enough, I'm still wide awake, but maybe that will change once I actually get myself into bed. Good morning then. -- Simsilikesims(♀UN) Talk here. 10:37, April 1, 2013 (UTC)

Blanker

Your willingness to reach out to newbies exceeds mine and is often a useful counterpoint to my style. But the guy who blanked Singapore did it with glee, based on the change summary; there is no ambiguity and he lacks for more than just information or a gentle touch. FYI only, I would have broken his skull with the ban-stick. But carry on. Spıke ¬ 23:33 2-Apr-13

I was seriously tempted to ban him for a week, my decision to ban him for only one day was because only one page was blanked. If he does it again, I'll give him the week, and if he does it again after that, then a month. -- Simsilikesims(♀UN) Talk here. 01:45, April 3, 2013 (UTC)

I moved this article out of mainspace but have told its editors (Anton199 is the other) that it strikes me as vanity--an article by and about a small chat room--that is never going to interest the general reader, and that I might delete it at any time on that basis. This site is bunk and so far all the people I've heard from on it are giants crap jerks.

Thanks for nothing.

This wiki is NOT a democracy, there are RULES that apply to ALL the pages of the wiki. Free speech here is limited, and calling people retarded and jerks qualifies as dickery. If you think this wiki is unfunny bunk, you are free to not contribute and leave, but not to call others names or cyberbully others - cyberbullying is a rule that applies to ALL pages of the wiki. Your contributions so far have not exactly been quality, unfortunately. We are looking for more than randomness or nonsense - you may find your brand of humor is better suited to Illogicopedia, where randomness and nonsense are very much accepted, but calling others names, again, is not. I am blocking you for a week for dickery. -- Simsilikesims(♀UN) Talk here. 05:10, April 4, 2013 (UTC)
Dittoes. Neither a democracy nor a Right to Free Speech is a guarantee of successful speech nor a right to speak in any forum and in any manner you desire. Vivian, if you are reading, the personal attacks "overnight," mostly in capital letters, were not from me. Uncyclopedia is home to a lot of people with different degrees of both humor and civility, and the tools rendered it easy for that Anon to follow you from the Sandbox back to your talk page. What I provided, by comparison, was editing advice, which I stand by, and which ought to remain on your talk page so that other editors don't insult you by repeating the advice and so that everyone knows that we reached out to you. Transferring to me--then to Uncyclopedia at large--your justifiable anger at your tormentor was incivility on your own part, and I hope you return after your ban expires, more able to deal with our diverse crowd. However, Simsie's recommendation that your humor fits better on Illogicopedia is also a good solution. Spıke ¬ 11:38 4-Apr-13
