edit So you are a "Spike" too?

Spike the Dog (06b)

Spike is a grumpy old dog. You can stroke his fur, or you can be smitten by his stick. It is up to you.

Hello, Sharpspike7, and welcome to Uncyclopedia. This is a wiki (a collection of pages anyone can edit). Words in blue are "links" and can be clicked to take you to another page. This wiki is for comedy. It pretends it's Wikipedia, but we make people laugh, not bore them. If you aren't interested in a fake encyclopedia but in writing fake news stories, we have UnNews, and there are other projects for scripts, lyrics, how-to guides, and so on.

What you can do

You can create your own article. For starters, create it under your own name; for example, User:Sharpspike7/Bedbug. (The red instead of blue is a link to a page that doesn't yet exist.) We have a list of articles that need to be created. You can help without writing articles; just read articles and, if you see an improvement in writing or in comedy, jump in and edit it. In fact, you can help without writing at all, such as organizing, watching for vandals, or even greeting other new users.

What you need

To write articles, you need a sense of humor and an ability to write good English. We all have strengths and weaknesses and you can get help in any area. But everyone needs an ability to work with other people. Be polite, positive, and helpful toward others, and assume others are doing the same toward you.

What to read

Here are some pages that might help you:

For personal help
  • The administrators are willing to help you, and several Uncyclopedians are willing to adopt you.
  • I will watch this page for a while and will know if you edit it. Afterward, you can contact me on my own talk page.
  • If you've written an article, we have a Proofreading service where someone will correct your mistakes, and a review process where an experienced Uncyclopedian will read your article and suggest improvements.
How to post to talk pages

Please follow these general rules:

  • Add comments at the end of a talk page so people notice them.
  • Start your paragraphs with one or more : characters to indent them and set them off from other people's posts.
  • At the end, type ~~~~ (four tildes), which gets replaced by your user name and the current date and time.
  • Don't delete anyone's messages. In case of any controversy, we depend on an accurate record of what was written. You may disavow your remarks by striking them through like this.

I hope you enjoy it here and write a lot of funny stuff! Spıke Ѧ 22:13 27-Apr-13

edit Gays of the Earth

Hello and welcome! This evolving article has one problem, which I summarized in the Intensive Care tag I put at the start (and which should not be removed until someone senior reviews the article): Just saying that something is gay is not funny by itself. Any gay-bashing done on this site must be done with the utmost of cleverness. Your page does have a theme--to ridicule a certain anime--but the basis seems to be nothing but, "Ew, it's--gay!"

And it has one other design flaw. I do not know the anime in question, but it seems that "Gays of the World" is a pun on its name. This means you are writing a joke and the reader has to guess, and search for, the punch line in order to read the joke! Articles here ought to be something that someone would actually search for, such as the actual title of the anime. You can use the {{Title}} template to make the page call itself anything it wants, once the reader pulls it up. Cheers! Spıke Ѧ 08:58 28-Apr-13

Thank you for the help, this was just a little look about in how everything works. And know that I gotta more better and clear view on how everything works here, I think I want to do something more creative (Still ridiculing anime) and more funny. I think I'm going to delete my page Gays of the Earth and create something else. Thank you for the help Spike and I hope you'll check out the other page I'll start working on.

Well, another lesson: Regular users can't delete anything; but if your decision is final, I'll do it for you (or list it on UN:QVFD when the time comes). Deletion of articles with collaborators need to be taken to Votes for Deletion. Anime is a niche interest, so please ridicule anime with clever enough English, or simultaneously ridiculing something more well-understood, so that your future article will be funny to a lot of readers. Separately, if you should ever get second thoughts about having a user name with Spike in it, we have a once-in-each-user-lifetime offer of an unconditional name change; details are at the top of User talk:Sannse. Hmm yes, I am sure I want to delete this page. And don't worry, I speak fluent English so that wouldn't become a problem when I make an article (So now I can't say It's English my bad and I'll have to say that I have no sense of humor). I've had thoughts on changing my name but nothing with numbers and something short to remember. For example you're Spike, but then again you are a admin so that might be why. I've had thoughts on names like Law or maybe Killer or if those two don't work Death. But I don't think any of them would work, but I'll give it a go and ask you! Thank you!! --Sharpspike7 (talk) 16:36, April 28, 2013 (UTC)

It is deleted (hence the color red on the link at the start of this section). As you once mentioned that the "Sharp" piece summed you up, the "Spike" syllable generally refers to me. So your user name annoys me, but my job is not to take action based on personal annoyance, and in fact a couple of Uncyclopedians actually enjoy annoying me. I was just mentioning our little offer.

User names involving mayhem and violence often are self-fulfilling prophecies. We will unavoidably come to know you, and for your good writing not your user name, and if you spend too much time dithering about what your name should be, we will come to know you for that instead. By the way, many Uncyclopedians assume a title that has not in their user name, such as "Brother" ScottPat. They put that in their signature. (See UN:SIG.) Others make it part of their name, such as ChiefjusticeDS. But you must not use "Sir"; that is a formal rank of Uncyclopedian that must be earned. Spıke Ѧ 20:58 28-Apr-13

Let me take this chance to remind you that "Uncyclopedia is for original comedy creations--It is not a directory of funny things available elsewhere." For this reason, I think your new article will ultimately have a different name. Be sure you add funny twists of your own, and are writing to amuse rather than inform. Thanks!
