edit Knock-knock jokes

I have begun an article that is filled with the sort of humour that I know you don't like, but could you please review it on its merits and tell me whether it has the potential to develop into a funny article or if I should abandon my efforts while I'm ahead?--Sigphoto|(get dtf) 20:39, July 3, 2014 (UTC)

I really don't know how to react to such a bad-faith request for advice. You know my tastes, but request that I put my values aside and evaluate your page "on its merits" rather than on my values. Based on whose values, then? For starters: What's with the copyright notice? Stuff here can't be copyrighted. It doesn't belong in the encyclopedia, perhaps in UnBooks. I can't believe it's original. I can't believe you think I need to render an opinion on this not-much-more-than-a-paragraph. Do please try to convince me you aren't baiting me. Spıke ¬ 03:06 4-Jul-14
Making a list of knock-knock jokes as er..just a list. Don't see how that can become an article as such. --LaurelsRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 07:53, July 4, 2014 (UTC)
I suppose I shouldn't have expected a heraldic response, but this came in a more hostile tone than I thought it would. Firstly, the copyright notice was something I put in because at first the headers weren't working and I thought that would be a good set-up for a joke, though admittedly what I have there at the moment isn't very funny. I'm guessing that's the main reason why you think I've copied and pasted it. The article alludes to infamous jokes rather than makes up its own set of them, although I made up "Jesus Christ have you nothing better to do with your Sunday?" and "Samson Galaxy". The concept is also my idea. If I take this article off my userpage, I will put it in UnBooks. "baiting me"--I'm not quite sure what you mean by that, but can assure you I don't want to be banned.
Cquote1 I can't believe you think I need to render an opinion on this not-much-more-than-a-paragraph. Cquote2
I wanted my article reviewed while it's still in its infancy, but I regret asking for a review this early on.
An explanation for the request as a whole. What I wanted from your review was either--well I suppose it's here--that, this early on it could develop into something good, or that firstly you don't find what's down at the moment funny, and secondly you think that the concept is lame enough for nothing written in that goes with the themes could be funny. I asked you because I thought that you have experienced the writing of similar-concept articles and could therefore tell me if you think they are ever funny. "On its merits" was clumsily used and I can see why it upset you. What I meant was can you imagine anyone finding this funny? but I can see that was an unfair expectation too. I will write more of this, so please tell me if you would review it in the future.--Sigphoto|(get dtf) 08:29, July 4, 2014 (UTC)
I would suggest picking someone else for the review, since this is the type of humor that Spike dislikes, it is unfair to ask him to put his personal preference aside given the strong response above. I would be happy to look over whatever you develop it into and give feedback on it, as long as you don't need feedback on a weekend. -- Simsilikesims(♀UN) Talk here. 11:07, July 4, 2014 (UTC)
I am pretty sure Spike has never written a 'knock-knock joke' here or elsewhere. I can't remember the last time I made one either come to that, recall doing this at school in the 1970s? --LaurelsRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 22:17, July 4, 2014 (UTC)
The last one I even remember morphed Alice into Alles über Deutschland. Was it the Three Stooges? I have not indeed written one here. Any article can turn into anything else, and nothing is never funny. That said, I don't get your concept except that it doesn't fit the "encyclopedia" motif (hence: UnBooks). A registered Uncyclopedian is not banned for writing a stub (though I routinely ban Anon for creating a slew of them), so I don't know what brought that up. Spıke ¬ 22:26 4-Jul-14
By "similar concepts" I mean the concept of paying homage to childish jokes. There's surely a fair bit of that, no? I'm trying to make my article about ridiculing knock knock jokes rather than inventing them.--Sigphoto|(get dtf) 23:58, July 4, 2014 (UTC)
Though there is a lot more there than when we started, I would not have known that that was the theme. I would not have known that a goofy page was a "homage" to goofy stuff, rather than simply goofy, and in most cases here, goofy with no theme at all beyond the author's exuberance at being goofy. So, it is not what you are trying to make it; it is what the reader experiences. Give him more hints. Spıke ¬ 00:22 5-Jul-14
Thanks.--Sigphoto|(get dtf) 10:00, July 6, 2014 (UTC)
Excuse me, you deleted the wrong page! No doubt it was my fault somewhere down the line, but you deleted the UnBooks page rather than the userpage, which is now just a link to that deleted page.--Sigphoto|(get dtf) 22:56, July 6, 2014 (UTC)
It is now done right. And indeed it was your fault; please read the QVFD rules carefully regarding how to list redirects for deletion. That rule is there exactly so that we delete the redirect and not the page pointed to. I have changed your entry on QVFD to be the way these should be. Spıke ¬ 02:44 7-Jul-14

edit Super Smash Sises. Brawl on VFD

Hello Spike,

There's this article that's been around for years that I am now trying to get into VFD because of its content, the grammar is good, but I feel like it's more like a guide to a fanmade creation (and it's more sexual than funny) rather than a parody, even the article itself isn't really that funny.

However, I am hessitating to move it to VFD and edit the article with a VFD stamp, in fear that I am doing something wrong and that I will get banned

I am still not so sure if it meets the deletion policy, but the article itself really has no place in this wiki, please tell me what I should do. --User:Horatio

Hello and welcome! As should be clear from the debates on VFD, the threshold for nominating and voting to delete is subjective. Nominate it if you like, and stand back and see what others think. Obviously you will survive even if the vote goes against you. Other points, though: (1) As the rules say, VFD is about improving the wiki. If you see how to improve the article in question, just do it. (2) The convention when discussing an article is to [[link]] to it so readers of your posts can decide for ourselves. (3) Sign your posts properly, as you were not told how to. I'll send you a proper welcome message now. Spıke ¬ 19:00 9-Jul-14

To Spike,

Thank you for your help, and thanks for your warm welcome, I unfortunately cannot reply to your message properly due to my device freezing the desktop site, I was able to get the article into VFD. The thing is, the subject of the article does not exist, therefore it cannot really be parodied, no matter how much you may edit, it still has no point in being there. I explained my reasons in the VFD entry, I am not sure if I got something wrong enough to get myself banned, as I have tried to delete things in the past but end up like that. But thanks a lot for your support and advice

Do not hesitate to correct my mistakes

Also, please excuse my grammar

Thank you. HoratioMan64 (talk) 20:05, July 9, 2014 (UTC)

Thank you so much for the support and the help, thank you and all the admins who showed their support! I really appreciate it, Sorry for not reading your message, as I was away.

However, sorry to tell you this, but there's another problem. There seems to be another Uncyclopedia and the articles you have deleted still exist there....I was wondering if you and the rest of the crew have access to this duplicate of the wiki? I found it on Google somehow.

Once again, Thanks for your support and help! HoratioMan64 (talk) 15:44, July 20, 2014 (UTC)

We do not control what happens at any other website, and any website is free to make copies of any article here for noncommercial use if they disclose which users wrote it. There is also a mirror site that contains copies of some really crappy articles we deleted. I hope you will share our goal of trying to clean up this website, rather than the goal of tracking down and killing every copy of that one bad article. You are free to try, but it would be more time-consuming and less likely to succeed. Spıke ¬ 23:24 20-Jul-14

edit Add Bosnia to some templates

Hey man since the article is now up you should add it in templates like "countries and territories of the world" and so on to have it better indexed on the wiki. Cheers. Hazbulator (talk) 01:50, July 10, 2014 (UTC)

edit The Real Mai Shiranui

Did you check that link before you deleted the Discussion page? If you saw that babe (IDK her name), you would've seen Striking Similarities to Mai Shiranui (The actual character in the games, not the Cosplayer you have here.) So much so, I even Nicknamed her that on first sight! You probably deleted it Just because you saw the term "NSFW". I just wanted to show what she Really would've looked like if you found her on the streets in the real world. Uncyclopedia is a Troll-infested site filled with Traps, Jokes and Hilarity, pointless articles and equally pointless redirects, so I thought I'd have to make one of what you consider "Jokes" by claiming her to be the real life equivalent to Mai Shiranui. Sorry. 79.179.17.186 15:50, July 21, 2014 (UTC)

No, I did not follow the link, nor do I care what is labeled NSFW. As I explained in the Deletion Log, this is a humor wiki, not a catalog of where to go for actual pornography. You are welcome to edit the only article that uses that illustration (HowTo:Get Around In A Fighting Tournament), except that I think that a joke that a cosplayer is actually a real-world person will not be amusing to virtually any of the readers. Spıke ¬ 17:32 21-Jul-14
Even with some familiarity with cosplay culture, a cosplayer is actually a real-world person - in a costume, sometimes acting out the part of the character they are dressed up as. So no, this would not be funny. Furthermore, many of the trolls have left for elsewhere, and the Traps are being gradually weeded out, though to some extent they will always still exist, like the classic {{USERNAME}} joke. Jokes and Hilarity are generally welcome here, however, as long as they meet the requirements of all of our "ignorable" policies. Pointless articles can be put on VFD, once you register and are here a few days, and we try to weed out truly pointless redirects as we see them. -- Simsilikesims(♀UN) Talk here. 19:21, July 21, 2014 (UTC)

I see on Wikipedia that Saxton Hale is a character in the game Team Fortress 2 and I was mistaken to interpret it as cyberbullying. edit Hans Brinker

How is baseball? If you are interested, I found some information about the Hans Brinker Budget Hotel in Amsterdam, which you might want to use in your article. The funny thing is that, after having received numerous complaints from its clients, the management decided to proclaim its establishment as the worst hotel in the world. As they probably expected, this marketing campaign boosted the hotel's popularity and augmented its clientele. Interesting, no?

I thought about adding this to the article myself, but I don't know where and I can't write in the same style you do, so here you are! And nice work on the additions to the article, by the way! Anton (talk) Uncyclopedia United 13:24, July 29, 2014 (UTC)

You don't cite the new information you found, so I can't do anything with it. (Regarding the worst hotel in the world, I just read — in Mike Shedlock's column on townhall.com — the worst restaurant in the world taking a blogger to French court for writing "A Place To Avoid" that surged to 4th-place in Google.) Dump your new stuff into the article (which is less than half "mine"), for example in a new final section Other Hans Brinkers, and I'll massage it. Spıke ¬ 13:32 29-Jul-14
The article I read was in French, but I will willingly add a section to partly your article. Anton (talk) Uncyclopedia United 18:20, July 29, 2014 (UTC)
I've now taken a stab at it. Unfortunately, the said Hostel has basically made a joke of itself (with the London Daily Mail piling on), leaving us in the position of cataloguing someone else's humor instead of writing our own. I've done what I can without piggy-backing off (or linking to) them. Spıke ¬ 17:12 1-Aug-14

edit World Cup of Wikis

Hi SPIKE. It's Amit, from the Israeli wiki (Eincyclopedia).

A few weeks ago I suggested that every four years will be a World Cup (something that is similar to the FIFA World Cup) in the English wiki.Every wiki will do sort of an internal preliminary World Cup to choose the entries that will be "sent" to the International World Cup in the English wiki. The competition will be just like the original FIFA World Cup (tournament), Country Versus Country until the finals.

The rules of the competition:

  1. Every wiki will choose two articles that will be represented it in the competition.
  2. The articles that will be chosen must have an international humor, so everybody could understand it.
  3. The articles that will be chosen must be written or translated to English, so anyone could understand the humor and the sophistication of them. For example, if in the Dutch wiki there is a witty and funny article, the Dutch users need to translate it to English, so the whole world could enjoy it.
  4. Every wiki must pick one user that will represent the wiki in the World Cup. This user will represent his wiki and all the articles that were created in his wiki and will be in the competition. In addition, this user's English has to be very good - he must know how to write in properly English because he will translate the articles from his wiki. Besides, this user will take part in the votes and will promote the levels of the World Cup, even if his wiki articles will not take part in the next level.
  5. The World Cup will always start on June 20.
  6. Near every article there would be the article's home country flag (if the wiki doesn't have a home country she has to make a fictional flag), so there would be no confusion between two articles with the same name. For example, if both Norwegian and Japanese wikis have an article in the World Cup about Genghis Khan, there will be the flag of Norway near the Norwegian article and there will be the flag of Japan near the Japanese article.
  7. If the wiki's language is spoken in more than one country or in some countries, (for example, the English wiki, the French wiki, the Spanish wiki, the Portuguese wiki, the German wiki Etc.) the flag of this wiki will be the flag of its home country. For example, the French wiki will have the flag of France.
  8. Above every wiki will be written the language of that wiki in English (for those who don't know the differences between the Slovenian flag and the Slovakian flag).
  9. Translated articles from English or from other languages mustn't participate the World Cup.

So, what do you think about it? Something is written here Tell me here what was written 17:26, July 30, 2014 (UTC)

Competitions are a great way to induce activity. Are you asking if we are interested in hosting the competition? We recently had one held "jointly" by this website and one other, which some people used as a gambit to try to induce our authors to leave the website. Consequently, we will be more vigilant than previously.
If the World Cup starts on June 20, then I think we missed the deadline for 2014.
I think the requirement that the humor be international should not be codified in the rules but simply something that voters weigh. I'd expect a wiki's voters to oppose a nomination that is unsuitable for an international competition, such as an article on a single U.S. state. We might start with the articles voted in the Top Ten of the previous year (it would be nice if there weren't that six-month delay), though some of these would be lost on non-native-English speakers.
I agree that, although wikis are free to borrow from one another, a foreign-language wiki ought not to be able to win with an article that was translated out of English and then translated back into English for the competition (no matter if it was improved). Now, some articles might do a good job of being funny but a poor job of being rendered into English. The locals might assist — or would that be unfair? Spıke ¬ 17:39 30-Jul-14
One more thing. May you spread the idea here ? Something is written over here / Tell me here what was written 07:11, July 31, 2014 (UTC)
As a registered Uncyclopedian, you could do this as well, and it might be better that way, as I am obviously still unsure of the exact procedure. Spıke ¬ 12:41 31-Jul-14

I didn't intend to use it as free storage space. I was planning on using it on an article I was writing. I figured it would be better to create the article with the image already there. edit Eclipse

Hi. I'm the "author" of the Eclipse article and I've just noted it has been deleted or almost... I hope you understood the idea behind this text was to hide everything behind an image representing an eclipse. The text is absolutely not funny on purpose, it was just a copy/paste of Wikipedia. You can compare this conceptual article to Nihilism for example. Anyway if you don't get it it's not really important, but I noticed since the article is online maybe 5 years from now, some dudes delete the image of the black circle because they can't read the text, which I think is funny enough to leave it like that! This is not a signature - WiiKend Magritte 12:56, August 2, 2014 (UTC)

Yes, thanks. I got the joke, but as I wrote at Votes for deletion, I didn't think the single sight gag was enough to carry the article. While it was on VFD, I edited the sporked text to actually be funny. Spıke ¬ 14:10 2-Aug-14
ok I understand. What puzzles me is that the article was on the site for maybe 5 years before deletion but frankly, it's not the work I'm the proudest of. This is not a signature - WiiKend Magritte 15:35, August 2, 2014 (UTC)
There is absolutely no way for this site to provide consistency so that every article deleted is worse than every article kept. Established articles stay established until someone nominates them and convinces other voters on VFD, with the 24-hour-minimum notification (Doesn't seem like a lot, these days!) to the author(s). 15:39 PS--I nominated the article after Anon removed the black circle (the first time, substituting MASSIVE CIRCLE HAS BEEN REMOVED FROM THE PREMISS). edit Sprite bug

Separately, did you know that the thumbnail sign or how you call it (two squares below an image) displays all the time, even if it's not needed. For instance, when you code the file-link as [[Image.png|center|frame]]. I remember you worked on something like that a month ago, so I am addressing myself to you. Do you have an idea about how to fix this? Anton (talk) Uncyclopedia United 12:35, August 5, 2014 (UTC)

That is called the Sprite, that sounds like a legitimate bug, and I should be able to fix it. (However, regarding "even if it's not needed," it's never really needed.) Please point me to a page where it manifests itself so that I can look at the HTML code the page produces. Spıke ¬ 12:55 5-Aug-14

As you will read, you can sign by typing four tilde characters in a row. What you did doesn't work as you don't yet have a signature file (see UN:SIG). You can work it so that typing four tildes automatically drops your signature file into the post. Let's continue this on your talk page, as it's more about you than me, cheers! edit Preteen

Good work editing this article! I agree with almost all of the changes, but I think that the joke about Google Images ("Based on Internet image searches using Google.com, 98.5 % of all preteens are female.") is very funny and could be kept. Anton (talk) Uncyclopedia United 13:49, August 12, 2014 (UTC)

OK, then put it back. One reason I deleted it is because the author peppered that section with links to Google so that the reader would try it himself. I didn't like the humor that was so dependent on the reader seeing "evidence." Spıke ¬ 14:29 12-Aug-14
Well, I don't think the link was needed at all there. Anton (talk) Uncyclopedia United 17:11, August 12, 2014 (UTC)
Note, though, that I had moved this joke to the caption of the photograph now on the left side. The percentage might go there too, as well as a note that this illustrates the preteen's winter apparel, and that they dress more scantily in the summer. Spıke ¬ 18:55 12-Aug-14

Radical was meant to be a joke as they are almost certainly not radical, contrary to the Palestinians and Donetsketans (East Ukrainians - God knows what to call them!) who are very radically fighting for their independance. edit Thanks for the tips Spike

I will try to get a handle on this. I'm liable to have some missteps, so I appreciate the corrective pointers. - Frank Fancinostril

Could you be, please, move Uncyclopedia:UnSignpost/20110324 to UnSignpost:UnSignpost/20110324? You can leave a redirect behind. Thanks. Anton (talk) Uncyclopedia United 16:56, August 25, 2014 (UTC)

edit Mulbarton, Norfolk

Note you even removed the frequency of buses, what's the point please? I thought the aim was to keep it close to reality? Also why not have a cn tag Gabriel Turner (talk) 12:31, September 4, 2014 (UTC)

The aim is not to keep it close to reality. The aim is to invent a funny take on reality. The {{cn}} tag, which shouts out that "This assertion might not be true" on a website where all of the famous assertions are untrue, needs to be reserved for situations where it is actually especially funny to ask the reader to consider that. Russian Reversal is officially trite. Finally, there is nothing funny about the sentence, "The population at the 2001 census was 2,827." Nor much funny about your entire article. edit Seizure Page

Since the original article was taken our of my userspace and mainspaced by someone else, I'd like it to be returned to my userspace at User:Meganeew/Siezure Page, please. Thank you. --Revolutionary, Anti-Bensonist, and TYATU Boss Uncyclopedian Meganew (Chat) (Care for a peek at my work?) (SUCK IT, FROGGY!) 06:27, September 6, 2014 (UTC)

Which story? This one - Seizure - was created before you arrived here. I checked the edit history. There is no 'Siezure' page. --LaurelsRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 08:22, September 6, 2014 (UTC)
I did it already ~Sir Frosty (Talk to me!) Icons-flag-au 08:45, September 6, 2014 (UTC)

edit That little edit in the Codeine article

Hey Spike, I've added 'Codeine is also a replacement for female hygiene' but you removed it. It's okay.

I'm writing here because maybe you didn't get it? Codeine is used in every vaginal itching medication. That was the pun. The preceding unsigned comment was added by 79.19.208.168 (talk • contribs)

It's a riddle only if you are a pimply teenager. Keep your infantile fun then. 79.17.75.54 12:48, September 7, 2014 (UTC)
I am neither. What this means is write a funny encyclopedic paragraph around your concept. Don't just state your concept. Don't do a rage-quit. Spıke ¬ 12:58 7-Sep-14

edit Blade Runner

Hi Spike, I am not sure why you have edited out my addition to the Bladerunner page, as it seems that it wasn't removed intitially, at least for a year, so unless it is a unanimous decision, I don't see why you have removed it. It is possible that you have given it a separate page which I am not aware of. But if it has been removed and it is not unanimous, or was only unanimous when prompted and made as a suggestion (for removal), I can only see that as some intervention, which I will remark upon that I disapprove of.

Perhaps there is a simple explanation for this. Perhaps I am a bit quick to start thinking that this is malice. Maybe the world is 'changing' and we are being sucked into it. Either way, what was allowed once to stay, should be allowed altogether to stay. I hope you can appreciate this philosophy. No, come to think of it, it wasn't you, I think it might have been docilehippopotamus. --Reallybloodymental (talk) 21:41, September 13, 2014 (UTC)

Do you know how to use the History tab? If you are referring to Blade Runner, my only edit there, 28-Mar-13, was to undo an anonymous editor, who made a section heading absurdly long and also added gassy text to the first paragraph of that section.
Neither I nor any other experienced Uncyclopedian needs "unanimity" to revert Anon — though if a revert war ensues, I'll ask another Admin, and if Anon seems to have a point, the process may involve more people. Nor does the fact that an edit got in, or stayed in for a period of time, mean it can never come out. The world changes, and tastes change. Just ask Chuck Norris.
Yes, it is too quick to impute malice to a random edit, especially if you now think it was someone else. Malice is easy to spot when it's real. Spıke ¬ 21:51 13-Sep-14
Yes, it was Docile hippopotamus. He found that someone (you) had appended text after the end (even after the Categories) of an article that had won a writing competition, and removed it, and I don't blame him. I don't believe that such articles are guaranteed immortality, as some of them are pretty crappy, but they are entitled to more protection than is your edit of it by virtue of merely having survived for two years. In any case, appending to an article that hangs together a completely different interpretation means the result does not hang together.
Your text is now at Blade Runner (2012 Director's Cut). Your initial note that "this second part...seems to have been removed in March, for reasons of a personal nature" is of no interest to the reader, is drama, and is gone. I recommend that you also get rid of the dumb lists, the reliance on YouTube videos, and the cum jokes. You may continue work on it in 24 hours when your ban expires. Spıke ¬ 22:04 13-Sep-14
