Teutonic Knights

Regarding your new See Also, I did the teutonic/tectonic pun in the previous quotation. Doesn't mean you can't do it again, but reconsider. Also: Page rape! Spıke Ѧ 13:02 15-Jan-14

Oh...I hadn't checked! Ok, I will remove it. No point over egging. --LaurelsRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 17:55, January 15, 2014 (UTC)

Knights Templar

I noticed the Knights Templar article is nonsense. That needs a bit of changing round. --LaurelsRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 17:57, January 15, 2014 (UTC)

Hmm, yes. I have cleaned this up throughout, such as in re: wagging penises; but I have no comedy strategy to impose on it, nor know the history; so unless you intervene, it remains mostly a ramble about a secret organization. 18:43 PS--Have now read some history from a paper encyclopedia and gotten it to hew slightly closer to the truth. Spıke Ѧ 19:58 15-Jan-14

PS--Thanks for your addition! I don't understand the connection to James Bond. (PS--I get it now. But I moved all this down as the caption of a new illustration.) Your final section is better than Knights Templar, the sequel, which I held over from the previous nonsense. Should that be kept? Spıke Ѧ 23:41,24:17 15-Jan-14

I don't know but the article has now two endings. The Dan Brown thing seemed the obvious way to conclude it as this relates to story that the Knights Templar were suppressed because they knew the truth about Jesus and Mary Magdalene. --LaurelsRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 09:25, January 16, 2014 (UTC)

Dan Brown is not a conclusion at all but an episode; in fact, it drops the reader in mid-air regarding the missing gold. The other one (paralleling The A Team to segue back to the initial illustration) is a better ending, so I simply reversed the order of the sections. Spıke Ѧ 13:00 16-Jan-14

I've expressed my views and proposed that it be moved to my userspace for me to do a re-write although I'd happily do a collaborated re-write with Romartus. Sir ScottPat (talk) White Ensign Scotland Flag 1 Compassrose VFH UnS NotM WotM WotY 08:18, January 18, 2014 (UTC)
I googled the title and came up with this - and a YouTube video. This article seems to be related to these. As it stands it looks like alternative history but without any jokes I can detect. A 'What If' of an article. Saying that, it could be used as alternative history where the Founding Fathers end up like Cromwell and the regicides after the end of the English Civil War. --LaurelsRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 09:29, January 18, 2014 (UTC)
I can re-write it and make it original and humourous. Just will take some time. Shall I move it to my userspace? Sir ScottPat (talk) White Ensign Scotland Flag 1 Compassrose VFH UnS NotM WotM WotY 10:02, January 18, 2014 (UTC)

I told him that moving an established article out of mainspace would take a vote. But an article not just "related to" but a carbon copy of an article on a more appropriate Wikia wiki could be deleted administratively. Spıke Ѧ 14:09 18-Jan-14 PS--Nope, the article on althistory is the same concept but a different article (nothing but a timeline), different illustrations, and no side-stories. Spıke Ѧ 14:11 18-Jan-14

I wasn't sure but it is quite a detailed article that looks like it came from elsewhere. Perhaps it is just a riff on that idea. --LaurelsRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 15:17, January 18, 2014 (UTC)

File:UnNews Logo Potato (No text).png

I changed the heading at the top of UnNews stories produced by {{News}} to use all of our slogans, and to include the UnNews Potato. I tried to make a copy of this, at File:UnNews Logo Potato (Crop).png with a little shaved off the top and the bottom, but IrfanView seems not to include opacity with each pixel, and the result will only drop in smoothly to the same color background I was using to edit it. Do you have more modern tools with which to do this? Spıke Ѧ 22:19 20-Jan-14

I have photoshop but not quite sure what you want to do. Is just a matter of cropping the size of the logo or the image on the logo?--LaurelsRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 07:54, January 21, 2014 (UTC)

Just have the new copy not include the empty space at top and bottom, thanks. Spıke Ѧ 08:34 21-Jan-14

PS--I grabbed a different logo; it is just as deep but at least uses the space better. Feel free to tweak {{News}} or even return it to a strip at the top of news stories rather than a box at the left. Spıke Ѧ 09:18 21-Jan-14

Thanks for your vote on the cloud face page. I'd trade ten of my features to have this one featured (well, okay, nine), and it has enough twists and turns to give the concept both a satirical and an actual overview of the event pictured and then portrayed. Appreciated. Aleister 16:35 22-1-14

p.s. and on the site linked, ATS, there is right now a very good Martian find that is very indicative of fossilized remains, and if you're interested I'll put the link to the first post here. I've spent hours on that one (it's not my find but I'm turning out to be the one giving the early analysis of the "discovery"), and it does seem unique. Lots of us enjoy finding objects in the pics being sent back from the Curiosity rover, and one user, Arken, has a pretty convincing spinal column that the media has yet to pick up on, but this new one - seems to be either an ancient lake (Gale Crater is an ancient lake site) dweller or a rock - has details which the others lack and is causing a little excitement there. I don't know if you're interested in that type of thing. 16:40 22-1-14

If Curiosity runs over a dozing Martian feline...then Curiosity Killed the Cat. --LaurelsRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 18:04, January 22, 2014 (UTC)
Hobby, I'm not a geological or biological expert or scientist, but on the thread that I mentioned the discovery is pretty new and, even though I've taken it upon myself to alert the ATS staff and other interested people, not enough have come by. So I'm just doing a visual description of the find from a series of still and moving photos that a member, funbox, has put together. Nah, the rat was just a rock. I found a pretty good lizard though, and a skeleton which turned out to be pixel distortion. Arken's spinal column has been looked at by people who work with spines and bones, and the reception from them has been good or mixed. The problem is that NASA and JPL are just running the rover where they want, and not stopping at some of these things. This newest one, in the area where Curiosity was photographing on the 19th, is close enough for the rover to explore but as far as I know they don't even know about it yet. There was an interesting rock that showed up in the path of Opportunity - one that the rover probably flipped over with its wheel to where it landed - which has a very unique mineral composition for Mars and will be one of the subjects of a NASA news conference tomorrow. I've had the "space bug" since I was a kid, and have followed this stuff since then. I actually once had a flag and a patch that were on the moon in my home for a few weeks while setting up an local exhibit. That was fun. Aleister 18:52 22-1-14
Wow one of the US flags on the Moon? Lucky you! The EU should get its act together and stick one on that homely rock soon. Space is the way forward is it not? Whether we like it or not we'll have to get off this planet to survive one day! I hope these findings come out with some interesting results! Aleister's Mars lizard rock

Well not one of the big flags, one of their miniature flags (given to someone had worked on the missions). Europe is leading the way in a lot of the new telescopes and space missions, they've done nice work. But I too wish all of them would put a manned Mars mission together. China has a new moon rover wandering around, but with China you never know, they may send a Mars team up tomorrow and not tell anyone until it arrives. Secretive to the extreme, except when they'll not. I've been offline, so I'll go check what's new on the "spoke" fossil. Oh, wait, I'll upload my lizard rock here so you can see it. Aleister 20:37 22-1-14
Thanks. I always thought the EU (at least the UKSA (for those non-British folk funnily enough Britain does have a space association!)) were good at getting satelites into orbit and manufacturing them. I don't care who does it but I'd like to see us get to Mars and establish a Moon or Mars base. It's an idea that isn't original but it's still gotta be done. From ATS's funbox, discovery by BuzzDengue. This is likely the first off-site use of this picture, which is possibly a major fossil find on Mars. Or just a rock. Aleister 21:11 22-1-14

Please read my UnNews again

This is really stupid. SPIKE has removed my UnNews page announcing past proof of life on Mars, a very historic article which actually is real breaking news here, and it has been funnied up enough to pass muster. He says it's unnotable (hahahahahaha) and vanity. Would you please consider reverting him on this one? Thanks. User:Aleister in Chains/Proof of past life on Mars broken on UnNews Aleister 20:42 23-1-14

I wouldn't mind it but it is overtly promoting another website as the source of the story. Why not just re-work for here as it is your story? Perhaps it needs a new nose too (news speak). --LaurelsRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 21:13, January 23, 2014 (UTC)
Separately, Aleister did not like the way my float-left {{News}} template came out (see the Forum) so I'd reactivate my above request to you for a new shoop of the UnNews Potato Logo (same potato, same width, less depth). Spıke Ѧ 22:18 23-Jan-14

I promote the people who discovered the possible fossil, to give them credit. This is a real world major story. But it is not important now, as the writing here is no longer important, for I read a thread which links to the funniest writing on the web. We are put to shame at uncy. Some people have read these for hours, and laughed every minute, and I lol every minute I read it. Read the reviews for sugarless gummy bears: Aleister 11:14 24-1-14

'This is a real world major story" It is/was? I missed that one on the MSM. --LaurelsRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 14:48, January 24, 2014 (UTC)
It depends. Aleister's story is about the object found on Mars (discussed above) that apparently NASA are going to take a look at to determine whether it is a fossil or simply a rock. I see no reason why a humourous news article can't be written on it as long as it takes a satirical look at the findings and simply mentions website as a source at the bottom. Sir ScottPat (talk) White Ensign Scotland Flag 1 Compassrose VFH UnS NotM WotM WotY 17:19, January 24, 2014 (UTC)
I posted the story because I think it's important, it isn't my project, and once again I have to clear up his comments about me. Thanks ScottPat, and no, NASA probably doesn't even know about it (by major story I mean it should be, and if Uncy can break the news of the first major evidence of organic past life on another planet, why not). There is nothing wrong with that page, and I joked it up enough for an UnNews - jeez, anyone can write an UnNews about whatever nonsense they can think of and they don't get what SPIKE gives me. I can only take so many insults before it makes me look like a wimp for not returning some of them, and SPIKE seems to have pushed me out of "just accept it, he's good for the site" mode and into "he's quite the sausage" mode. And SPIKE's UnNews about the gummy bears? He gives two off-site links right on the page and nobody complained (and no, I don't read every UnNews, but almost all the good ones have off-site links as Sources). Aleister Seventeen twenty-eight, January 24, 2014
Oh dear. Aleister, I wish everyone calms down before throwing stuff about. You could have emailed me this complaint but instead chose to go public. I don't want people to trade insults either. Gets us nowhere. Regards UnNews, well my own preference is for a story that at least links off something that is out there but if others choose to go surreal, well they can. Just as long as it is funny. Since I have known you since 2009, I really don't want to go round banning people so I suggest we all calm down and get some fresh air. If you really want to talk about this, you can email me. --LaurelsRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 18:17, January 24, 2014 (UTC)
I still think its a fine story, well told with just enough jokes and just enough data to make it UnNews worthy. I don't understand why it was removed here, and I'd ask you to at least read it again. Maybe Spike didn't know who The Princess of Mars is (see Edgar Rice Burroughs). Thanks. Aleister 23:52 24-1-14

Holy Monkeys on the Halfshell, another Spoke fossil has been found. And no other news agency has this as yet. Two of them have now been spotted on Mars. (EDIT: Nah, the second one is just a pixel optical illusion. Never mind) Aleister 1:03 25-1-14

Goofy Search bar

Just quickly passing by, reporting of a possible bug as I saw you're online now. So is your/yours search-bar working all fine or is the problem only at my end? When one types something in the search bar (next to the edit-button) it shows the possible articles one could be searching for. The problem is that when one clicks the article-suggestion it doesn't go to the suggested article but instead shows the page like that you're just searching for the article. For example, I tried this with Special:NewPages, wrote special:newp in the search bar, clicked the link but it goes to search the page instead of Special:NewPages... is this intentional or just a bug? I tried this on the other uncyc as well but there it worked like it's supposed to. Also, it isn't just the special-pages that are bugged, this works with every page. Try it out yourself. Just reporting of it :) Cat the Colourful (Feed me!) Zzz Sleeping Cat 13:08, 25 January, 2014 (UTC)

I checked the Fork and it works as you say. Here, I have a feeling it hasn't worked for some years. The 'new pages' showing are actually very old pages. I guess it ought to work like Recent Changes but doesn't. --LaurelsRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 13:31, January 25, 2014 (UTC)
So I see the same info via an extra click going through Recent Changes on the top menu. Just seems that was an older way to do it and got bugged along the way. --LaurelsRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 13:34, January 25, 2014 (UTC)
Well yes, the recent changes-page has the links to all of the special pages. Going to the special-pages from the search bar is what's not working, which you noticed too. I don't think there's actually a need of fixing it as one can go to the special-pages from the recent changes, but fixing that would save one extra mouse-click worth of time :) Cat the Colourful (Feed me!) I've tipped a note to him Cat. Thanks for the pointer. I did notice myself that when I search for pages on my phone and I click on the drop down options it would always take me to a search page, which wouldn't display any of the special or the user pages. Sir ScottPat (talk) White Ensign Scotland Flag 1 Compassrose VFH UnS NotM WotM WotY 13:53, January 25, 2014 (UTC)

Yes, the search bar has been fried for some time. Wikia decided a long time ago that when you searched for something you wanted to see a search result, not to actually go anywhere. They later relented and allowed the previous behavior as a user option (My preferences/Under the Hood/Enable Go-Search) but it has not worked right since on searches outside mainspace. I think we had a Forum on this. (You can search for it....) 14:53 PS--I found Forum:The_Search_Box. which describes problems before Wikia installed the problem you're describing. Use of Youtube vids on page

Hi. This is something I haven't addressed and have been meaning to. While I was gone the use of Youtube vids on pages was curtailed and they became files - but not all of them (I come across some at times which work on the page). There are several pages where I used the vids as a key part of the presentation, and this has really thrown those pages off their game. If there a route to getting permission to bring those back? My "new" user page has one of those, and the same one is used on UnPoetia:Well-Oiled Birds where it fits perfectly. The Brown rice unnews is another one which could be played while reading the article, and there are others. Well, you get the gist of this. Thanks! Aleister 4:47 27-1-14

I recall we were encouraged to use Wikia's video links rather than YouTube when visiting there but It wasn't an edict against using YouTube links. Since YouTubbies is bigger than even Wikia - I guess we aren't adding to their traffic profile. It would be a bit like banning Google links in my view. --LaurelsRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 08:34, January 27, 2014 (UTC)
Thanks. I won't overdue it, and I can't recall ever just plopping a youtube on a page which wasn't relevant to the overall structure and flow of the page. The one I love most is the well-oiled birds vid, which fits perfectly and is quite moving when played along with looking at the illustrations and poetry which come before it (that was my only collab with Guildy, missing him among many others who were here when I arrived, and you must have the same feeling. Which is why fighting and worse among the few, the unproud, who are left here, is counter-productive, and we may need an experienced mediator). Aleister 12:08 27-1-14
I blow these up whenever I see them, as the focus of the site should be the writing and not sharing someone's funny video that you saw, as sending someone to a good place to get Minecraft credits should not be either. Google links are suspect; it is a way to send a user to a site without naming a site to just get him to do a search. If your article needs one you can restore it if I deleted it, but the criterion should be tighter than that it "could be played while reading the article." There are many things to do while reading articles, not that she would let you. But what you seem to be asking for is to do it the old way, which I doubt we have the ability to grant. Spıke Ѧ 12:17 27-Jan-14
I tend not to link to YouTube as I agree with Spike as regards linking off. I think each YouTube can be looked at. If it does assist with the article, then I don't want to turn this into a big deal. Since Wikipedia links are used to reference a reader to the supposed 'fake' version there - I understand when users want to link a 'YouLube' but has to be relevant in my view. --LaurelsRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 12:40, January 27, 2014 (UTC)
When I try to change the vid to youtube it just reverts back to the file, and says I created a new file, so the coding is bonkers. How do I recreate the video on the page? Probably a very low tech answer that I know nothing about. Thanks. Aleister 19:22 27-1-14
Can you give link?--LaurelsRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 22:08, January 27, 2014 (UTC)
Again, I believe Wikia told us it has started bringing user-designated YouTubes on-board so that it can display the initial still photo for the video without having to contact YouTube. It is not "bonkers"; it is the way it's done now. Spıke Ѧ 22:11 27-Jan-14
I haven't tried doing it Wikia`s way as regards creating these links.--LaurelsRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 22:51, January 27, 2014 (UTC)
You code a link to YouTube and Wikia goes out and grabs it and changes your code. You edit a page that has a link to YouTube and Wikia does likewise and lists you as the uploader. Spıke Ѧ 23:39 27-Jan-14
Which is totally counter productive because when you play a youtube here it still plays on site, on the file. I have one on my user page, and if I click on it it stays in-house, and doesn't leave Wikia. So what's the point? Can you guys consider asking wikia (I guess Sannse is no longer our rep?) to reverse this, since they stay within the wiki anyway. And is all of these changes leading to selling uncy to someone, or putting in widespread advertising at some point? Thanks. Aleister 2:30 28-1-14
p.s. and Romartus and ScottPat, more of the spoke creatures are being found on the Mars downloads over on the same thread on ATS that the large one (which I describe on the UnNews page that SPIKE user-spaced on me, and that's one I cannot yet understand) was found. Some of us are playing on the thread, lots of good humor going on, but at the same time it's getting very interesting. I'm using one of them in my avatar there, which also pictures a little green martian that nobody can tell me what kind of rock it is. Aleister 2:52 28-1-14

Would you take a look at Infant? LuisHacker has a new section there that strikes me as ranty, but I have just blown away his attempt to add an illustration at Santa Claus and don't want to be reverting all his stuff myself. Also deserving a Second Opinion: Anon has a large edit to Richard Carrier that shows himself to be a good writer but perhaps more motivated by hostility to the noted atheist than humor. And Adamiscool has a big edit to Lester B. Pearson that seems to drastically change the previous author's tone. Spıke Ѧ 22:07 29-Jan-14

Looking at Infant, it looks like he took the statistics that one in 8 embryos is born with a twin embryo that frequently is reabsorbed (Vanishing Twin syndrome), as described in Wikipedia in their Twin article. From there, he made the exaggerated extrapolation that these babies must be killers since their twin vanished, and I think it works. Richard Carrier is an atheist blogger, who seems to have some interesting views on philosophy, but I couldn't tell whether the description added was close enough to the truth to be funny, or just a hoax. I reverted the changes to Lester B. Pearson because they did not fit in with the surrounding article. I think you are right. There was a purge of Sonic stuff some while back. --LaurelsRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 22:48, January 31, 2014 (UTC)

The new article on Shadow is better than we've ever had, so I'll go in and undo the prohibition.

Separately, I did not see you patrol or minister to Jgod and have just taken a second look and reverted him at Denmark and North America, as the former article just got an additional contribution and his changes would get lost in the history.

On Tulu Nadu, I'll leave it to you to deal with the new user, as he understandably regards me as a vandal. Spıke Ѧ 22:56 31-Jan-14

OK regards Tulu Nadu. Sorry, I forgot to check on JGod. --LaurelsRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 22:59, January 31, 2014 (UTC)

And LuisHacker is another unhappy camper who claims that his edits to Soviet Onion were not as crufty as I thought; perhaps you could judge this too. Spıke Ѧ 12:56 1-Feb-14

I have let Luis Hacker's edits stand - so I returned the article to his last edit. Overall, I am not sure if the article worked that well before the changes. Anyway..--LaurelsRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 18:07, February 1, 2014 (UTC)

France vs. England

Don't know if you're a rugger fan or even if you happen to be part French but either way it was a good game despite our loss wasn't it? I just hope Scotland can pull of a miracle against Ireland like last year. Sir ScottPat (talk) White Ensign Scotland Flag 1 Compassrose VFH UnS NotM WotM WotY 20:01, February 1, 2014 (UTC)
