edit RotM

Could you, please, check Forum:RRRRRotM? Anton (talk) 13:56, March 6, 2014 (UTC)

ScottPat left a message there. And please don't think that I am the only interested. I am following most of the reviews right now to check if there are any problems with formatting, and I see that we do we have enough reviewers for the award. Please! Anton (talk) 17:59, March 10, 2014 (UTC)

edit Secret Cow Level (Legend of Zelda)

You tagged Secret Llama Level (Legend of Zelda)‎‎ with {{WIP}} and I dropped a note to the author and cleared the article's Patrolled flags. Do you have an opinion on the longer piece? Spıke Ѧ 23:19 6-Mar-14

I wasn't sure if it was complete or not. I don't have an opinion on the article as such.--LaurelsRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 08:34, March 7, 2014 (UTC)

Well, I do, and just gave it a big old {{ICU}} (needs pix and possible refocus) after advising the author yesterday that these page titles might never be searched for. Now we are almost fully patrolled — Spıke Ѧ 11:16 7-Mar-14

I don't know the story so can't see me adding anything of value. Could just go. --LaurelsRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 19:38, May 13, 2014 (UTC)

edit Air Force Slang

— but what to do about Air Force Slang, which overnight received a new dollop of information that more catalogues than amuses? Spıke Ѧ 11:16 7-Mar-14

Looks like the work of someone who knows the slang but it isn't really an article? I don't know is the honest answer. We could back some of it but if the article is just a list - ermmmm. I just wonder if it is an original work or imported from elsewhere but we won't know the answer. --LaurelsRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 14:04, March 7, 2014 (UTC)

I am sure the contributions are original, as it was contributed over time from a variety of sources, which I am willing to believe are all in the US Air Force; but the material is not original but part of the institutional culture. Again, my concern is that the article is being used to catalog humor that occurs elsewhere, rather than write new stuff. Comparable to our catalog of foreign-language dialects and swears. Spıke Ѧ 14:47 7-Mar-14

There are probably a lot of articles like this, we only noticed this one when a vandal added something stupid and got reverted. Perhaps it could be locked for now. --LaurelsRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 16:52, March 7, 2014 (UTC)

I didn't revert him. If the article belongs on site, it ought not be frozen against him or future contributions, but that's a big if. I will ask the voters on VFD. It might also merit a Forum. Spıke Ѧ 17:08 7-Mar-14

edit I think there was a misunderstanding

I don't know whether you forgot about Reviewer of the Month (I won't blame you if you did, it would be surprising if you didn't with all the things you are currently doing!) or if you don't think it needs a response, but it could as well be the latter. In which case, I think there is a misunderstanding. On the forum, I left all the names of people who have recently made a Pee Review, so you can see that I am definitely not the only reviewer, and so if the award is opened, I won't be the only one interested!

You could think I was worrying about it so much because I wanted to get one (even if it is that, I don't blame you, because I may have sounded too excited), but I assure you that these are not my motivations. I would like to make this site more active and the paradox which I talked about in the forum (you are not allowed to clean the dust out of a corner in the room, because it seems too dusty) annoyed me very much, especially because there were many people who contributed to Pee Review and deserved the award!

I hope that if there was a misunderstanding, it is not there anymore, and please, if you have any doubts about what I am doing, ask me - I will always be willing to answer!

So do you think the page can be unlocked? Anton (talk) 20:34, March 12, 2014 (UTC)

I unlocked the page yesterday but I can't find a way (yet) of removing the message about it not being active. --LaurelsRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 22:34, March 12, 2014 (UTC)
That was put there by {{Historical}}, now gone. Spıke Ѧ 22:40 12-Mar-14

edit LinearGradient

CSS3 lets you create "gradients" to give the impression that a graphic is a photo without using photos. It's visible in my signature and at {{Writing funny stuff}} in the Welcome messages. It's documented at {{LinearGradient}}. It's coded two ways to catch some old browsers, but ScottPat and Anton199 claim they can't see it, for which it is coded a third way. If you are in the business of creating signatures for people, this might help. (But Harold Stone will still have to execute the complicated procedure in UN:SIG to put it into effect.) Spıke Ѧ 11:42 14-Mar-14

edit 1990s

As you may know, I am in the process of improving the 1990s article. However, I'm not really knowledgable when it comes to the culture of that decade. I asked SPIKE if he was, and he said you might have more vivid memories than him. Could you perhaps add some more content to the article? I want it to be a parody of the typical nostalgia-blind "90s kid" (no offense if you're one of them).--EpicWinner (talk) 02:06, March 15, 2014 (UTC)

I can't have been a '90s kid' as that was for me - back in the 70s! I had a look at the article. I made one minor edit. I was wondering if it would be better structured if you broke up the subject into categories. Also the article is naturally skewed towards someone growing up in the USA - so it would be an American 90s Kid. --LaurelsRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 11:58, March 15, 2014 (UTC)
Would it be possible for you (or someone else) to do a Pee Review on the article (request is here)?--EpicWinner (talk) 23:58, March 16, 2014 (UTC)
I plan to do a Pee Review on P_e_r_f_e_c_t_A_t_h_l_e_t_i_c_i_s_m's article first. You can ask another editor to review it. --LaurelsRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 08:22, March 17, 2014 (UTC)

The Portals were inactive sometime ago before the split, in fact I don't think they were ever that active. Uncyclopedia reminds me of Medieval Rome living within the ruins of Ancient Rome. --LaurelsRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 18:11, March 16, 2014 (UTC)

edit UnNews:Missing Malaysian plane may have flown to the Moon

I have two edits in here. One is a light copy-edit (only the first place in the dateline is capitalized, and you need " -- " if the podcast ever starts working again).

The second edit is a new third paragraph that is more fact-based; your option. Spıke Ѧ 11:07 17-Mar-14

On the Front Page, I'll flip the two side-by-sides to put this alongside the WTF story — but I need a better photo: The beauty queen doesn't relate, and the newspaper page would look busy as a thumbnail. 11:12 On second thought, we could make it work with a quotation from Jackie Gleason. Spıke Ѧ 11:26 17-Mar-14

The 'beauty queen' is Eddie Izzard. --LaurelsRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 12:27, March 17, 2014 (UTC)

Yuck. I feel gay. In other website news: Nick123 has stepped forward as VFD Poopsmith (and VFD has fresh meat for you to vote on); Alpalwriter, on the other hand, seems to have mistaken us for ED; Pummel had a rage-quit last night; and GigavoltHekamaks had several, but each of shorter duration. Spıke Ѧ 12:35 17-Mar-14

I had a look at Alpalwriter's article. Yes - more ED than UN. Since it is off main space, I was going to see where he was going with it before commentating on it. --LaurelsRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 12:49, March 17, 2014 (UTC)

edit This

Hi Rom, mind having a quick glance at the start I've made to a rewrite of the Police article here? I'm wanting to know if I should continue in the style I've started in or whether you think it's going to get a bit repetitive. Secondly, is it funny? That's very important.

I always struggle with my own work, I can't even reread my featured articles without my hand twitching towards the delete button. I'd appreciate if you could have a quick read and let me know. --ChiefjusticeDS 09:26, March 21, 2014 (UTC)

Will do! --LaurelsRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 09:55, March 21, 2014 (UTC)
I like the basic idea - a copper's pen is more important that gun training or driving fast cars. Perhaps that could be added at the start aimed at those recruits who want to be policemen to play with guns and fast cars. I also thought the Sergeant's name could be linked to a less obvious pun on words describing the police or criminal activity. --LaurelsRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 10:23, March 21, 2014 (UTC)
Yes, I liked your name a lot more than the one I suggested. Cheers for the suggestions and proofreading, I'll have another look at it later. --ChiefjusticeDS 11:36, March 21, 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for the images. I'm still trying to decide which style to use for the article. I woke up in a cold sweat after thinking about the other one for too long. --ChiefjusticeDS 20:26, March 23, 2014 (UTC)
I liked in the style of an induction course. A pen is mightier than a taser. --LaurelsRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 21:58, March 23, 2014 (UTC)

I've finished the article and replaced the mainspace version at Police. I'll be putting the article onto Pee Review shortly, but would appreciate your thoughts. I didn't go for the induction course style in the end as I ran out of ideas. I changed the style to be more encyclopaedic but I tried to weave the stuff that I'd already written into the new style. Again, thanks for the images you contributed. --ChiefjusticeDS 11:42, March 25, 2014 (UTC)

edit UnNews:UK Bishop Behind Same Sex Couples‎‎

This has been submitted by a long-time Uncyclopedian who doesn't know the first thing about writing an UnNews. It doesn't do anything for me but resemble a drive-by "homophobia" slap against a cleric. Can it include enough background to at least show how it is trying to be funny? Should it be "mercy-moved" to userspace? Spıke Ѧ 22:22 28-Mar-14

Today is the first time gay couples were legally allow to marry in England. So that is topical. The main photo needs re-sizing but I can add a link to the main story. --LaurelsRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 22:25, March 28, 2014 (UTC)

Cheers; but it would be a damned fine thing if the UnNews also mentioned this context to the foreign reader. 22:34 Ah! your Source does exactly that. Spıke Ѧ 22:36 28-Mar-14

Yep, done it and added a quick paragraph. I have also left a message on the writer's page that he should create an UnNews in the correct place next time. --LaurelsRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 22:41, March 28, 2014 (UTC)

Cool. I was thinking on that template - would also work on the FA as well. It's just a user-friendly image float right when you get down to it. The main thing is defaulting the link, size and tooltip/alt text. While it's specific to UnNews, I was thinking of stripping it back to a more generic {{img right}}, and have that other template feed off that.

Revert war under way. Would you please arbitrate? Spıke Ѧ 22:27 15-Apr-14

Since this report, user LetsParty went on to revert me again, still without comments on any talk page, and for good measure reassert an edit in the userspace of Savethemooses. I banned him for 1 day, explained a second time on his talk page, at which point he reverted as Anon and created the socks Bubbudvoo (user page: "Fuck off.") and TrustInMe. I did not trust, but waited until after some crude edits and then a revert at Tolkien before whacking him. Spıke Ѧ 10:48 16-Apr-14

The downside is that I am sure there were plenty of editors with at least one feature but that would take a lot of trawling through the archives to check on them. If this is a policy change, it should go to a forum to confirm. --LaurelsRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 08:51, April 18, 2014 (UTC)

Newish user, TheWikiMan026, a Northern Irishman, has made a request on my user page to change the featured article Great Britain's name to United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (at the moment a redirect to a non-featured article about Britain, which isn't as good as our featured Great Britain article) to show the correct nomenclature for our nation. I told him that there was probably a reason behind the name and as it was featured I don't have the authority to move the title (it would probably disrupt lots of featured content pages as well) so I redirect the question to you as you are a British admin. edit North African Campaign

Sorry I didn't get back to you on your VFH comment I have been a bit busy lately. You said that the gay themes in my article were "seriously unfunny" and enough to make you refrain from voting. I wondered if you had any suggestions on how to amend that. I added them in originally because of the Luigi meme but later just for the "they may have been gay" idea that many people never think about considering when they study history (the idea of the people in charge being gay apparently perturbs some people). If it's that bad I'm happy to take them out or change them to make them funny. Sir ScottPat (converse) White Ensign Scotland Flag 1 Compassrose VFH UnS NotM WotM WotY 10:05, June 7, 2014 (UTC)

Hi ScottPat. I was just giving my own opinion as regards your article. You don't have to change it for me or anyone else. I just find this 'gay' meme just a bit unoriginal. It was a minor issue and your article was featured. --LaurelsRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 10:08, June 7, 2014 (UTC)
The goal is to amuse, not to "perturb"; writing so as to make the reader question his beliefs is advocacy. Nevertheless, most uses of "they may have been gay" is by grade-schoolers who think it is funny by itself. Spıke Ѧ 10:09 7-Jun-14
Yes I suppose it was a bit unoriginal. I was just going for the Harry and Paul Gay Hitler sketch style of the hypocrisy of those who hate the gays. Using gay jokes doesn't necessarily correlate to "lol gayz" unfunny comments and I hope I went for a more Pythonesque joke about aristocracy rather than a teenage mockery of gays but that in itself as Romartus pointed out was a bit clichéd of me. Sir ScottPat (converse) White Ensign Scotland Flag 1 Compassrose VFH UnS NotM WotM WotY 11:15, June 7, 2014 (UTC)
Now, a separate question, if the model was a specific comedy sketch of the past, is whether your intent not to ridicule gayz but the "hypocrites" around them would be understood by the reader. (Not that that isn't advocacy too.) If you can relate it to something in the actual North African Campaign, you might avoid this impression (even on a wiki full of "lol gayz") and resolve all these issues. However, "rip it out and try something different" might be more efficient. Spıke Ѧ 11:26 7-Jun-14
Not a specific sketch, no, but the portrayal of senior army figures as gay was a running Python theme and hence a running theme in British comedy. I will attempt to relate it to the North African Campaign. Sir ScottPat (converse) White Ensign Scotland Flag 1 Compassrose VFH UnS NotM WotM WotY 11:54, June 7, 2014 (UTC)

you can link that to: User:Shabidoo/Happy_Monkey_2014_Scoring

Also could you please lock the articles that were written on the spoon please? If you don't have time to look at which articles are on the spoon then I'll send you a list tomorrow with the names of the articles that need locking.

Unfortunately I'm on the road so I can't log in until tomorrow :(

edit UnScripts:Oedipus Rex Rides Again

I took out a tiny bit of the first/second person chat, but this article could work with the rest removed, plus the references to Uncyclopedia itself, as in how swell we are to have provided the reader with this article.

The <font> tags are problematic. In the first place, these define a range and have to be matched with </font>. Also, the right way to do it these is with <span STYLE="font-size: large; font-family: New Times Roman">. If you must have Act numbers centered, then don't use == at all. But I always prefer that articles rely on funny writing and not typographical gimmicks. Spıke Ѧ 11:31 18-Jun-14

That's fine by me. I doubt Multiliteralist will return to quibble over these changes. --LaurelsRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 22:01, June 18, 2014 (UTC)

PS--Ah, Multi. The attempt to deliver humor is tied up by the need to manage the reader's experience. The reason for the rule above is that HTML these days puts all decisions about rendering in the Style Sheet. The document doesn't dictate, "This heading is large"; the style does, subject to overriding by the reader. If the document must dictate, coding as shown above puts a bit of Style into the tag, to be reconciled with other Style guidelines, from Common.css to the user's browser. Spıke Ѧ 11:15 19-Jun-14

edit Homeland Security Terra Advisory System on VFD

You commented that this is "still relevant." But the subject of the article is still nonexistent. "Homeland Security" is still an active catch-phrase to secure infinite additional funding because no Congressman can vote against it; but how does that make anyone want to call up an article on a "Terra Advisory System"? Please cast the fifth vote to huff this.

Separately, the latest UnNews on the Sinaloa Dance Cartel is a drive-by knock-off of a previous UnNews, or the latest installment of a personal story arc that adds almost nothing to the narrative (except a link off-site). Likewise the one on the attack squirrel. In my opinion, they were written to keep Smuggler on top of the list of Recent Stories, and should not be highlighted. Spıke Ѧ 13:16 22-Jun-14

Regards UnNews, it was the newest story available to re-fresh the front page (not the front page of UnNews). With the Terra article, I will have another look. --LaurelsRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 09:55, June 23, 2014 (UTC)

edit UnNews:England regrets letting foreigners play their sports

The humor in this one seems more generic — the U.S. had the same gripes when our pro hockey players fizzled in the Winter Olympics, with teams further griping that they had to put their talent at risk of injury in the middle of the pro season, which gets suspended for the Olympics — so I'll leave your other World Cup report above-the-fold on the Front Page. edit Yes (band)

I need a second opinion. New user M00rglade is editing this FA, over the revert of Pennyfeather and my advice on his talk page. Is it merely bringing a FA up-to-date or making it complete, or is it a rework? Spıke Ѧ 10:42 5-Jul-14

Seems to be more like adding some extra details. I don't think it effects the overall structure so we can let it pass for now. As long as it doesn't turn into a total rewrite. --LaurelsRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 13:30, July 5, 2014 (UTC)

Well, as Yanks would put it, "You have created a Frankenstein!!!" Please review the article and see if your condition has still been met. Spıke Ѧ 00:02 8-Jul-14

As a writer of many Frankensteins here, M00rglade has gone beyond improving it - he has near doubled the length of the original featured article! Since the original author has long since gone before it was originally featured, this creates an Uncyclopedic conundrum. There are other older featured articles here which to be honest could as equally have been marked down for VFD. I am not against M00rglade's edits as it seems to be filling out a lot of the original's missing areas but when does an improvement become a de facto rewrite? Perhaps we need a forum to see what constitutes an improvement and what is a complete overhaul for a Featured Article. --LaurelsRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 07:03, July 8, 2014 (UTC)

I myself was reading about Martin Van Buren recently — a U.S. President with a strong resemblance to Bozo the Clown at a time when one of the parties was the "Whigs" and a good article begged me to write it. But we have a FA in the space, whose theme is the generic, "Everyone hates him." Spıke Ѧ 09:56 8-Jul-14
