What actually happened was this: for several years "Rcmurphy" did not actually exist as a person. "He" became a running joke, an imaginary user who was consistently lauded as the noobiest and handsomest user on Uncyclopedia. In late '09 I came to town, saw my opening, and registered the name. And now, without having done anything at all, I'm famous.

Some of them I like, some not so much. At Uncyclopedia, writing articles is not a requirement, but it certainly is a fun and easy way to express your creativity. To write an article, it's recommended that you start it in your userspace (for example, User:Rcmurphy/Article about stuff) so you can edit it at your leisure. If you decide to create it in the cold world of mainspace, make sure it is in accordance with the policies laid out above, and if you're not done put the "Work-In-Progress" template - {{construction}} - onto it as well.

If the current colonization doesn't suit your fancy, then browse our rewrite and idea categories. We have lots of articles just sitting around for someone to improve, so don't be afraid - dive right in!

If you need help, ask me on my talk page, ask at the Dump, or ask an administrator on their talk page. Additionally, the Uncyclopedian Adopt-a-Noob program is there to bring experienced editors straight to you. Simply leave a message on an adopter's talkpage to join.

Ingratiate yourself to your new host family and coworkers immediately. Don't assume that your site visit will necessarily be indicative of what you'll be doing when you actually start work - my site visit was full of enthusiastic plans that mostly never got off the ground. There are only two local shopkeepers but I'll keep that in mind. Since I'll be working in schools I don't have plans besides teaching, and theonly real enthusiasm was from students with aspirations of doing well and leaving the village. Looks like a challenge. --Syndrome

Kind of depressing when your goals amount to getting kids excited about leaving home... but I guess that's how it is sometimes. I don't know how it will be in your country, but in the Philippines a lot of education volunteers went a bit nuts from teaching and took refuge in side-projects (or joint projects with other volunteers), so you might want to keep those options open. —rc (t) 16:30, September 3, 2011 (UTC)
