edit Welcome!

Hello Nikau, and welcome to Uncyclopedia!

So what's this message all about? Well, I know it looks like this was automatically generated, and well, OK... you caught me. I'm lazy, so I paste it in. But... if you have been sent this it does mean that I have noticed your contributions, and think that you're going to do some good stuff here. So who am I? Oh, just someone putting his nose in where it is probably not wanted...

Anyway, if you have not already, I SERIOUSLY recommend that you read the link below:

Probably the second most important link for a newcomer is:

  • How to be funny and not just stupid - Basically it's a guide to writing humours articles which has been edited and improved over time by the users of this site. It's not an insult, and it's well worth a look.

If you want to find out how we decide which articles to feature on the front page, check out the VFH page. Basically, we vote for them. Anyone can vote. Especially you! You might find VFH a useful page to look over as it gives an idea of the kind of standard which you need to reach if you want to get an article featured.

If you want to find out more about Uncyclopedia, try these:

Thanks for your comments on my page. I am trying to finish a the new version of Augustus to replace the original crap Middle Earth knock off that was there. I also don't mind additions to any of the stories I have done - as long as they are not drastic rewritings !

Regards 'rape and pillage' - that is a biggie . I think that could be a hard one to mine humour from unless you are careful. It is also a subject that stretches throughout history up to today.

--Romartus 14:36, 2 May 2009 (UTC)
Rape and Pillage is mainly a parody of Vikings, because there was already a Viking article. You know a lot more than me about classical history, so I'd probably poke around on my own in a new article. --Nikau 14:44, 2 May 2009 (UTC)

You abstained because of the transgender thing, right? What do you suggest to improve it? Colour Sig For Make Mahm00shA Look Cool Egypt_orb_spinning.gif 09:08 May 27 '09

Well I would suggest removing that whole section as it seems not particularly relevant to becoming a King. It appeared to be unnecessary padding before the funnier parts below. The reader wishes to become a King and do ridiculous kingly things rather than focus on technicalities like gender. You can make the article longer through more fun poking at kingly cliches, as you did with the dragon part. --Nikau 09:20, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

Reverend Zim_ulator says: "There are coffee cup stains on this copy, damnit! Now that's good UnJournalism."

Welcome to UnNews, Nikau, and thank you for contributing some crap, or otherwise attracting my attention. For a quick introduction about how you can write a decent or better UnNews article, please take a minute read our spiffy new Style Guide.

I am your humble servant (in your dreams), and if I may be of help to you, please leave me a note on my talk page.

Good things that can happen to you

You can win awards and prizes! You can become a better writer by subjecting your articles to the scrutiny of UnNews critique machine or UnCanninator shit article detection system. You can become a thorn in the side of Journalism as a whole. You can get promotions, ribbons, and free crockery! You can write stuff your mom would be ashamed to show her friends.

What happened to my article?

If you've submitted an article, and it's disappeared, I may have mercy-moved it to your user space. This means I've probably left a message on your talk page, likely in close proximity to this very message, explaining why.

Your article may have been tagged for ICU if it has significant problems meeting our criteria, or I may have deleted it because you did not register as a user.

Finally, maybe you just pissed me off. I mean, I know I'm a Roshi, and I'm supposed to be all "Zen" about everything, but I have bad days too, you know?

M'su welcomes you!

My article, West Timor, was supposed to be more of a parody of North Korea (i.e "Uniting West and East Timor=Uniting North And South Korea; The West Timor Ideology= The Juche Ideal") then an actual parody of West Timor. But I Should've done more research anyway, since all I really did was skim through the Wikipedia article on East Timor. How did you know the history of West Timor? Are you from Indonesia?. Anyways, welcome to Uncyclopedia! By the way, allow me to introduce myself: I am M'su Carencro, and I discovered Uncy a few weeks ago. edit Hellooooo

Ah yes, I took a brief....errrr lengthy leave of absence but have recently started plugging away at articles again. You would appear to have taken some hiatuses yourself. I notice that you have one of my templates on this talk page - for a vote on Enhanced Interrogation Techniques. Clearly my most popular article yet as it almost made it to the top 10 in 2010. I think that got featured early 2010 and I wasn't around much after that. Just needed to replenish the brain because I felt like a change in online scenery was in order. I was drying up on ideas and wanted to pursue other things.
I just read through Australian Electoral System and have the following no-holds-barred thoughts. It's kind of rambling - there's a lot of Aussie history and things that stray from the subject. Example: lots of American references which digress from the flow. I thought the picture of the Washington National's president races was very funny with the caption but I was left wondering why it was in an article about the Aussie electoral system. Prose is a little meh in places which kind of dulls some otherwise good joke material.
So, I see about 3-4 different building blocks for separate articles kind of mashed together - which makes it a tedious read. While I would personally strip away all of the non sequitur material from the article in order to streamline it, I wouldn't necessarily throw that stuff away. Like I said, you have multiple building blocks there. Streamline, simplify and stay away from American or British metaphorical observations - just my opinion.
Also, if you like my hilariously funny and well researched golden nuggets of writing, I'm currently in the process of shamelessly whoring an article on VFH which is close to being featured. Hope my pee review lite was helpful.--DRStrangesig5 Sherman Fingertalk  15:29, October 3, 2011 (UTC)

nice. It is the baby of Onion addiction, but I feel the need to tinker with the ending still. --Nikau 13:08, October 6, 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for the kind words for the doping article! As for the vfh, I'm not 100% sure, I think the prose is great, but there could be a couple more jokes... And I submitted some articles from other users recently that I really liked and they got are getting destroyed, so I don't bring luck in recent times it seems... What I'd do if I were you is submit it on Pee Review. If in a week nobody picks it, you can then nom it yourself, or wait for the review to have suggestions to improve it and have an opinion. Since it's not a timely UnNews, you have all the time in the world to improve it before nomming it anyway. I think I'll take your whoring offer. I'd like to have an opinion about that one: HowTo:Snowboard your way to awesomeness!. It's more a feel good article than an all-out LOL one, but I am kind of stuck. Ideas? Suggestions? Unfunny, boring passages? Would you vote for it in its current state? Snowflake mini Mattsnow 14:58, October 21, 2011 (UTC)
I'll look through it tomorrow, must go now, but the title seems very long for what could just be "snowboarding". I don't think there is one, and if there is, no one will miss it. I think your article could do with a one or two line joke at the start to pull the reader in more. The first thing a person must do is giggle at a joke or the title for an article to take their shot attention. The first paragraph you have can be the initial section just fine, it builds up to something. And totally avoid "what the cool kids do etc." your narrator should either be awesome or think himself to be awesome even if he is a loser, everyone likes going 'fuck yeah' with the narrator because we are escapists. That said there was a load of good stuff in my quick scan of the thing. Nikau 15:15, October 21, 2011 (UTC)
Great! And also, if you could spell check it while you're reading it, that would just be awesome! And your Indiana Jones article was great, I lolled. Snowflake mini Mattsnow 18:00, October 21, 2011 (UTC)

Sorry about not giving more feedback about your snowboarding thing, I enjoyed all of it -gargantuan plane crash hehe- but I can't help feeling the narrative voice could do with a bit more character. I suggest reading either the Cracked columnists - - or hyperbole and a half (if you ignore the piles of pictures) because both are exceedingly popular and quite good examples of interesting narrative voice.--Nikau 01:34, October 25, 2011 (UTC)

I have articles that were not featured I am more proud than others. I just wanted an ending suggestion. I understand your eagerness to help though. We should start an article where we collab, I'd be happy to, but I have worked so much on the Everest article that I will accept a little review a little correction of prose, but not a whole change in concept or in what I "worked" to write. edit Australian electoral system

Sorry for being so late! I read it and I think the prose is great, but I guess I am trying too much to understand your election system here, because I was very confused at what the article was trying to express. I like the pics though, but I think it could be great to try to simplify a bit there. When you are talking about the 600K people of Tasmania and the 7 million of Queensland having the same weight, that hits the reader, very easy to understand, but there are some instances where the "explanations" are too complicated. Maybe a bit long too. I hope this little review helps! It seems to be one hell of a weird system to say the least! Snowflake mini Mattsnow 01:00, November 22, 2011 (UTC)

edit Greetings

I have gone through my records and it appears as though you may have voted for me for some award, supported one or more of my articles on VFH, or supported one or more of my images on VFP, in the past year or so. If this is not the case, then please ignore this message. Otherwise, thank you for your support. May you have a long and fruitful life, and have many parasites. 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy 18:57, 6 January 2012

Who is this Lyrithya, and where are these parasites spoken of? Hello. I left you a note on the bipolar girl nom page. There is a thing about cute or beautiful bipolar women that is very fun, but you have to put up with the madness. One in particular I knew some years ago was my favorite person to get high with (she's referred to in the page in quite a few places), what she'd do is start describing something and after literally four or five minutes in all began to make a pattern, a massive pattern, which was always amazing. Almost nobody else liked her, she had like three friends who could stand her, but those of us who did were so very lucky to hang out with this genius (she's my favorite living artist, if you imagine something while looking at her paintings you can find it in there. I asked a friend to just name something, and he said a basketball game, and I not only showed him the game in the painting but the stands and the crowd watching it!). Aleister 12:42 Russian Christmas '12
I understand what the bipolar girl is, however I think the article is in need of a no fuss introductory line with s one liner that says THIS IS BIPOLAR GIRL in place of the flashies. Other than that, the thing is funny, however it remains just slightly difficult to read through. I feel it needs more space to let the jokes sink in. -Nikau 12:54, January 7, 2012 (UTC)
Beautiful story by the way. It makes me sad because I do find it easy to make friends but I always have to move away. Returning and the joy it brings are the payoff. I don't know if any of them are so artistic though. --Nikau 13:01, January 7, 2012 (UTC)
Thanks. She was and still is amazing (I presume, she moved far off and we lost touch with each other, easy to do with Bipolar Girl). The flashing thingy moved away too, to the talk page. I tried to talk it into coming back into the article, but it just wanted chocolates. Hmmmm, I'll check the page and see if there's a better way to define Bipolar Girl in the lede. Maybe I was rambling there too. Going there now, bringing chocolates. Aleister 13:06 Red xmas '12
Thank you! I went to the page and this immediately came as the first line: Bipolar Girl defines the inner energy and drive of a really creative bipolar woman who has no one to blame but herself, and never does.
That tops it off very well, at least in my perception of the page, and thanks to you. Adequate? I'm happy now, and must dance shortly. Aleister minutes later
And thanks for your vote and kind words. Appreciated. I don't know if you saw it, but I wrote up an UnNews page to augment the article and to provide a link for see also. Fun days. Aleister 1:14 12-1-'12

Everyone has to do a Nazi article one day. Might as well get it done now. Cambodia is incredible once you leave Phnom Penh, if the city was anything like that 40 years ago I can see why Pol Pot felt genocidal. Yes there is a range of restaurants for both hipster and redneck tourists, from wank coffee shops of the type you find in the upper class suburbs here (foreign owned, charging $5 for a coffee in a place where 40% of the people are living on less than $1 a day. Ho hum,) to not quite legal stripper bars where the average age of the dancers was like one sixth that of the clientele. The police are the biggest dicks I have ever encountered anywhere, and do threaten tourists for bribes when not sitting around drunk outside said strip clubs.
Once you hop on the first bus out of Phnom Penh everything is just unimaginably beautiful, run down Frenchcolonial town centers surrounded by small farms that run the length of the many rivers. And no fucking police. --Nikau 12:43, January 24, 2012 (UTC)

I don't know why it didn't show up on the new UnNews list in the Current Events section. Odd. I wrote Matt about it. I have to read it again, or a couple of times, as on first read I missed a lot of what you are saying yet it seems to be very good and worthy of reading several times to get the nuances you put into it. My time is limited now, but if Matt isn't around I'll put it on the UnNews column on the main page. Likely a feature but I'm not sure yet, which is why I'm not nomming it, but as I said, it seems a step above most writing here and I have to wrap my head(s) around it. Thanks. edit "Scaring off new users"

Regarding your comments on several talk pages today: Welcoming new authors is a high priority here; welcoming new readers with articles that are not pure junk, is another. One good way to scare off a new user is for two veterans to bicker over policy on his talk page regarding his first-ever edit. Admins here have tried to elevate the website above the random typing of ED or Illogicopedia, and we have put enough time into documents such as HTBFANJS to try to avoid the impression of subjectivity. A newbie's talk page is not the place for drama. Spıke Ѧ 20:09 20-Sep-14

Yeah. But you should blame me too. I started one of the drama things, after all. It's one of my few talents. -– Llwy-ar-lawr talkcontribs • 20:22 20 September 2014
Back when we had a lot more users we didn't police the humor of contributions the moment they were made, unless the edits were flaming people or blanking. If they write a crap article then move it to userspace and be encouraging. Users like Cajek are loved because they were great at making noobs feel welcome even if the noobs wrote mostly garbage. Good noobs are rare, you have to pander to them until they have the ability to write like HTBFANJS. My first edits were in 2006 as an IP on Worst 100 Xs of all time --Nikau (talk) 02:24, September 21, 2014 (UTC)

If you want to encourage a newbie, that is a great thing. If you want to tell me I am scaring the newbie away, bring it to me, not in front of the children. I do act as promptly as possible to keep mainspace something that a random new reader will leave with a favorable opinion of. We have a couple users who spend their entire lives happily editing their own userspace. Again, it is a trade-off. Spıke Ѧ 02:34 21-Sep-14

I don't like this. (But don't dislike it enough to vote No at VFH.) Hello Mr Nicow! (Oh, wait, this doesn't rhyme, does it?) Being both an UnSignpost reader and editor, I have decided that our audience would like to know more about your private life, so would you be so kind as to answer the following questions in as many details as possible?

  1. To begin with, how did your childhood influence your political beliefs? If you don't feel comfortable answering this question, you can tell us how Uncyclopedia influenced your childhood. Anton (talk) 19:09, September 26, 2014 (UTC)
    1. (I assume you want a satirical post...) I'm a devoted follower of the Kali death cult, so I suppose you can say using Uncyclopedia and completely killing my social life influenced that. I also believe in the right for a woman to choose, so long as she chooses carbon neutral options like wind powered abortions. Finally, Uncyclopdia fostered my interest in anachro-syndicalism, although the page was later replaced with a joke about Oscar Wilde having a boob explosion. --Nikau (talk) 02:15, September 27, 2014 (UTC)
  1. (Another UnSignpost editor here). If you were to count the number of fingers you have on your fingers, what would that number be? Would it be different if you were to count using your toes? Sir ScottPat (converse) White Ensign Scotland Flag 1 Compassrose VFH UnS NotM WotM WotY 06:29, September 27, 2014 (UTC)
    1. I have no toes, not since the accident. They removed them and replaced the stumps with tank tracks from an obsolete Ukrainian APV. That seemed a little extreme because my accident was wetting my pants in 2nd grade. Actually, the same fateful lesson was where I was supposed to learn how to count my fingers, so I guess you can say I'm innumerate for quantities under 10. --Nikau (talk) 07:48, September 27, 2014 (UTC)
  1. But does Kali accept toeless worshippers? Anton (talk) 08:03, September 28, 2014 (UTC)
    1. So long as you lack taste, Kali will take you. Mostly because we have to lick clean the feet of teen monks a month. I guess I can bite off a few toes then if I need them.--Nikau (talk) 17:38, September 28, 2014 (UTC)

Sorry for asking such a question right after the PLS, but I am not sure I understood well the concept of your article. edit Pee Review and Nominations for VFH

I noticed your comment at the bottom of Uncyclopedia:VFH/Solar flares, that mentioned that in the past (before I joined the website) people used to nominate articles after pee review. I quite like this idea as I think we could actually produce better quality articles if they were to be reviewed in detail first before going to VFH. Perhaps we could have a system where it was compulsory to add your article to pee review and only then could an article be eligible for VFH nomination (no self nominations). What do you think of this idea? Sir ScottPat (converse) White Ensign Scotland Flag 1 Compassrose VFH UnS NotM WotM WotY 08:17, October 22, 2014 (UTC)

I don't know if Nikau is active, so, will you excuse me, if I give you some background information on the topic? "A system where it was compulsory to add your article to pee review and only then could an article be eligible for VFH nomination" is roughly what we had a few years ago, with the only exception that self-nominations were allowed. However, it was removed before you or I joined Uncyclopedia.
With our current level of Pee Review activity, I am not sure we would get more than one VFH entry a month, if it was re-established. Anton (talk) 16:59, October 23, 2014 (UTC)
Also, why "no self nominations"? Very good new articles are not necessarily noticed by other users, even when nominated for a review. And we get plenty of self-noms of very decent articles right now. Of course, nominating a work of another person is a good encouragement, but I don't think making it compulsory will help the situation. Anton (talk) 17:04, October 23, 2014 (UTC)
VFH voters are able to spot bad articles. In my opinion, self-nominations occurred with regularity under the old rules, as Uncyclopedians traveled in cliques and nominated each other's work. Spıke Ѧ 17:43 23-Oct-14

edit VFH

On the nomination of Malala Yousafzai, we have set out our disagreement and it speaks for itself. But I just noticed your comment on another ballot that it was unprecedented for me to come to this page to criticize an article that had been nominated. I don't know about precedent, but I chose to do it that way precisely to be more courteous than calling you out on the public ballot. Spıke Ѧ 11:46 1-Nov-14

No. VFH is strictly business; talk-pages are for fun, collaboration and communication. Cornering someone in private, away from everyone else, and complaining about their article is not courteous. 1) The VFH page exists for discussion of the article at hand and I set out my concerns, 2) VFH is there to determine the quality of the one article and nothing else, leave your love/hate for another user at the door. Unless you'd like people constantly turning up on your talk page to badger you into changing votes that's how the system works. The separation of VFH (serious) and talk pages (non-serious) has been around for as long as the site has and it prevents drama and cliques. --Nikau (talk) 12:12, November 1, 2014 (UTC)
Wait, VFH has always been serious?! What about all Filial Piety nominations (which is just one example)? On a serious note, if talkpages are for fun, communication and collaboration, then I would like to propose a collaboration to you! As it is me who proposes, it is you who chooses a weapon topic. Anton (talk) 13:36, November 1, 2014 (UTC)
A collaboration? There's a rewrite of Thailand that I've only fixed the infobox and added one paragraph (on my page on the other Uncyclopedia right now, just to annoy SPIKE more I guess). I'm trying to save Inconvenience store for doing with Xamralco one day. My last attempt at a collaboration was Processed food with Blackflamingo, but we both disappeared before we finished it. --Nikau (talk) 16:37, November 1, 2014 (UTC)
Nor have talk pages been exclusively "for fun." For one thing, the line between fun and serious is blurry. The true line is between broadcasts and posts that, although not private, are primarily one-on-one. It is not "for fun" when I ask other Admins about a revert or a ban I have made, but it is best not made a broadcast. Unless you have never met fellow long-timer Aleister, you must be aware of the longstanding use of talk pages to lobby, induce votes, and induce changes of votes. It is only "badgering" or "cornering" you based on your dislike of the particular message received. Spıke Ѧ 14:22 1-Nov-14
