edit I have an idea
As there is a buch of UnNews daily, do you think adding 2 slots to the Template:Lead articles would be a good idea? I think so, because with 5 slots, the articles are basically staying there for 2 days only. I tried to expand it, but with my formidable 1337 skills it somehow didn't work.
Mattsnow 22:52, January 28, 2012 (UTC)
- As you can see in the move log, I moved it ti UnNews but it just doesn't appear on "current" events... the name is OK in a link UnNews:There's "gay" and then there's "Oscar de la Hoya gay" - an editorial by Bill O'Reilly, but you can see where that leads...
Mattsnow 02:26, January 29, 2012 (UTC)
- Oooh, that's what you were getting at... in order for moved things to show up, you need to copy and paste them into the new location instead of moving them, since it's based on article creation date, not on date the article was moved. So just move it back to where it was and then recreate the page by pasting.
- And as for the other thing, we could do that, but is two days really so bad? Only the best/most topical should probably wind up there anyway... ~
02:44, 29 January 2012
- Er... because it's an UnNews? I don't get it, when I userspace UnNews, everything's fine...
Mattsnow 02:53, January 29, 2012 (UTC)
- You can move them out, but you can't move them back into the UnNews space. It's a weird technical thing. Just do the copying thing to get them in there. ~
03:30, 29 January 2012
- OK, done. btw, when I type almost anything in the search box, like hall of shame, I get thrown off the site... Damn, things are not going well here tonight lol. Can you access hall of shame? I can't. :S
Mattsnow 03:39, January 29, 2012 (UTC)
- I can, but it's possible Wikia may have borked something again regardless. If it persists, let me know. Or let them know; they might even fix it. ~
05:04, 29 January 2012
- It persists, and I wanted to let Sannse know. Ironically, when I enter User:Sannse in the searh box, I also get thrown off the site to : Internet Explorer can't show the page (or something). I verified the connectivity (it's all fine), rebooted my modem and still same stuff. But I can access articles from the search box. I tried creating a link to HOS on my userpage: doesn't work. I tried searching a lot of stuff in the Wikipedia search box and no problem. *sigh* this is a brand new PC.
Mattsnow 16:56, January 29, 2012 (UTC)
- I have a suggestion... try not using Internet Explorer.
- That said, I tried it in IE and it worked fine for me. What version of IE are you using? And what skin on Uncyclopedia?
- Also nevermind that, if you want to report a bug to Wikia, use Special:Contact to contact them. There's a link to the general contact stuff at the bottom of every page, so it should be accessible. Dunno why it wouldn't be. Then again, I don't know what's wrong in general, so who knows. ~
18:08, 29 January 2012
- But say I take Google Chrome. Do I have to disinstall IE in my programs? Thank you for the help.
Mattsnow 18:13, January 29, 2012 (UTC)
- Naw, you can have multiple browsers installed at once; Windows isn't that stupid. Yet. So just install chrome and/or firefox and/or whatever and then just use whichever one suits you, or something. ~

- Since when did being a defensive prick and being a dick mean the same thing? --Scofield & Dudes 19:20, January 30, 2012 (UTC)
- I don't know what you mean about being a 'defensive prick', but telling someone 'screw you' is just rude. Please do not do that. ~
20:23, 31 January 2012
- I just looked in both Urban dictionary and Wikipedia, and both prick and dick are defined as a slang term for penis. I don't recall a time when that wasn't the case. Adding the adjective defensive doesn't change the definition. So in answer to that question, pretty much always. Pup 10:57 31 Jan '12

edit Happy Monkey
Hi. After all that has gone on with the Happy Monkey contest I hope that you join in the fun. I remember, long ago in a land so far away, thank goddess, that you had a great article in the first one. The contest was born out of me stealing all the cookies from Happy Times's page and Happy Monkey trying to get them back, and so I feel a "There at the beginning" feeling about the contest, but it would be sad to participate without you. One of us, one of us. Aleister 11:52 30-1-'12
- Sorry, man. Been a little busy lately. I'm sure it'll be crazy enough as it is, though. ~
17:06, 30 January 2012
- You could always give a score out of ten for each article (and you wouldn't even have to write a pee review). And you wouldn't even have to explain yourself. And then I would promise not to spam anything on your talk page for a long while, and Aleister would try as hard as he could not to whore anything out on your talk page. This is a deal of a life time! --ShabiDOO 17:29, January 30, 2012 (UTC)
- If you are too busy to enter Happy Monkey maybe it's time to re-a-cc-ess your priorities. Administrative duties trumping Happy Monkey? Wha? And I haven't whored since 2010 except for the Madison Movement page and now...James Bevel. Read the James Bevel page, then drop everything and vote vote vote (use a few IP's, which would drive the vote higher). On a serious note, this would be a good page for uncy to feature, as it actually has history in it that can be found almost nowhere else, and never put together like this before. Whoring. And Happy Monkey calls from a distance, can you hear him monkey-chirping in the trees? Aleister 19:56 30-1-'12

Do you have any guides to how to create a layout, so that we can have some on the left page, and some on the right page? Also, this is for my User:Joe9320/Facebook project.

- Actually a quick point on this. Lyrithya and I have disagreed on a minor point in relationship to this in the past and iPhone browser. For the drops own to work in the iPhone browser properly the text/image to activate it has to be a link or a fakelink. At the time I pointed it out there was a disagreement over wether we should work with this in mind. I say you should, as I can't access a drop down menu without it. In the above example it only works when I click the fakelink or the links in my sig on the phone, even though it will work on the plain text on most other browsers. To err on the side of caution I'd use a fakelink. Pup 12:49 01 Feb '12
- In other words, we have to overcomplicate things for reasons of lack of wiki functionality. ~
17:16, 1 February 2012
- I just like to overcomplicate things myself. While we're on the topic, do you know how to hide/show sections without a hide/show link? (Last time I looked it couldn't be done without changing the sites js.) Pup 06:48 02 Feb '12

edit Recount
Of course I demand a recount on uncy of the year. Zombiebaron 16, me 3. Close enough to count again. A third guy, Frosty, supposedly had "7" (seven, ha! Not even close to 3), and you who knows, no way to tell from all the things going on, but I surely think that I won fair and square and if someone would count the votes again that would become obvious. Viva la revolutionaire. Hunger strike, hunger strike. Oh look, an Almond Joy! 3:12 1-2-'12 (and I saw what you did there, nice)

- Smells of not funny to me. An IRC cabal agreed, but Mattsnow already stuck it on the thingies, so what's a girl to do? You could do something, though. You're bigger than I am. And as for the editcount, it's generally... okay, it's probably broken. And sure, you can remove them however you like, but it's still impolite to break templates and formatting and whatnot, to the point where excessiveness could get you banned. Then again, too much of anything could get one banned. Too many kittens, for instance, could get one banned if we had wikilove here. Aren't you glad we don't have wikilove? Perhaps wikihate would work, though. Yes... spread messages of hatred and loathing... ~

edit UnNews thing
I knew I was right! I userspaced it at first, but the user was really pissed and it's an old user, he won the foolitzer prize at some point. I tried to have a 2nd opinion on IRC but nobody was there so decided to move the article back by changing the date to calm him down, I mean, I don't want to discourage people from editing and at that point I told myself "Well, maybe it's just me that don't find it funny." See the conversation I had with him.
Mattsnow 08:49, February 5, 2012 (UTC)
- There's often something to it when you don't find something funny. Not always, but a third opinion does usually help, so waiting might be in order next time - especially in the case of an article that ain't terribly timely like that. Ah, well. ~

When one creates a redirect, shall that page befall under numerable circumstances, O Queen of Wisdom? Translation: when someone creates a redirect, does it count as an article, therefore inflating the number of total articles we have? :P (currently ~29,500)
Mattsnow 03:52, February 6, 2012 (UTC)
- Yes. Also, this isn't my talkpage, although I do like being referred to as royalty. Pup 04:32 06 Feb '12
- It really counts? o_0 Damn, that huffing madness has to stop, soon, they'll delete AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.
Mattsnow 04:41, February 6, 2012 (UTC) Also, sig doesn't work, Pup. :P
- Sig works. It looks like a sig that doesn't work. And it does add to the total article count because technically they are articles. There is a way to count just redirects which would give us a more accurate figure, but fucked if I can remember what it is. Mind you, when you compare our level of articles versus Wikipedia, we really have no issue. Pup 04:44 06 Feb '12
- There's a total page count, a content page count, a redirect count, a disambiguation page count, namespace-specific counts, and counts of large yaks, and various other counts. Most of them have bugs, however, so even if you can find the magic words, don't expect any of them to be remotely accurate. ~

edit Section numbering
Fun question for you. With the faux header templates ({{h2}}, {{h3}}, etc.), when we last edited them, we deliberately left out section numbers, as that was one of the reasons why they were tweaked that way. I recently used one on an article, and didn't add a section number in the text deliberately. The issue is if someone has not chosen in preferences to hide the section numbers, the lack of those sticks out like a sore thumb. (Macintosh is the article I was playing with.)
So, in a nutshell, I'm trying to work out what makes a section number display and what makes it hidden. My assumption is that the section numbers are in a span with a class that is either hidden or not hidden depending on preferences, and that by putting numbers in a span of abc class will hide them. I can't access the HTML from my phone to check this though. Could you find out if my assumption is correct for me, and if it is, let me know what the class is?
I hope that you can understand what the hell I'm failing to articulate. Pup 11:06 12 Feb '12

Why did Lollipop request a three month ban Lyrithya? Was he plea bargaining or wants to make sure he stays away from this site for three months? I checked the user page and no message there. Thanks. --

edit Mozilla Firefox fix tag
You put a {{fix}} tag on the Mozilla Firefox article. Would reverting the article to a featured version address your complaints? Why (not)? --Pentium5dot1 t~^_^~c 04:24, February 21, 2012 (UTC)
- It'd certainly help, but honestly that version could use some fixing up as well, at very least in the presentation department. That said, fixes on features don't expire, so having a fix on it in either form should hopefully lead to improvements... eventually. Probably. It is one that plausibly could be fixed, at very least, and probably without too much trouble. It's features like Senator that I don't have any idea what could be done about them.

edit Pic fix tag
Hello possum friend. I notice your making hundreds of fix tag templates, and among them is one for not having pics. We have a tag for that already, and it's not in the fix category, so I fear that that would move it into the fix category, and you know what happens there. Tag, you're it, is a deadly game in this place. Aleister 22:00 25-2-'12
- Different fix tags go into different categories or sub-cats. I think pic fix keeps it out of the 30 days and counting. And having a unified tag makes more sense from a site standpoint. Pup 11:16 25 Feb '12
edit Hello
This abuse filter thing that blocks users, seems to have a liking for banning large amounts of IPs, example 188.11.0.0/16, given the fact its 65,536 different addresses I for one think that infinitely banning them is going to have some bad sides to it, like affecting a legit contributor. Can something be done to abuse filter so that only blocks annoying sock vandals temporarily, a month say? ~Sir Frosty (Talk to me!)
06:32, February 27, 2012 (UTC)
- Thank you for the heads up. The filter is doing exactly what it's supposed to, and while indeed the blocks shouldn't be indefinite, the software is just... dumb, so someone does need to shorten the blocks afterwards. Someone else can do that, though. I'm going to bed. ~

edit Ah, good, you dropped in
On the VFD thing of an established award, what are the precedents you speak of? The award has 42 winners, has been established for a long time, etc. VFD is not a very populated page, it is really not a community wide bugle of something going down in 24 hours. So I shall contend that the Goldstein award should not be huffed there, even though SPIKE has not come around to pipe in. He seems to have some kind of ptsd. Anyway, precedents? Thanks. Aleister 1:09 4-3-'12 and I need to go on ?pedia more.
- Closing official pages in general, I dunno. Apparently they did that with UN:POOP, probably the most recent, although I don't disagree that a forum might be a better place for that sort of thing... ~

- If I were trying to close an official award I doubt I'd put it on VFD. It's more likely to survive there then it would in a forum. Besides, there are a few let's change everything forums around at the moment - putting this on VFD was possibly the wiser way to approach this. Pup 02:27 04 Mar '12

- WIP'd articles with very little work put into them, or hope for them, can still be huffed. For example, something with a headache-inducing title that I suppose is supposed to be a parody of the Main Page that's just a bunch of template spam - well, that's been done a million times before, frankly, and it's never funny. Even if it actually was the Main Page. – Sir Skullthumper, MD (criticize • writings • formspring) 03:54 Mar 05, 2012

edit UOTM voting and stuff
I raised the issue of voting against users receiving awards a while ago and Zombiebaron made it clear that no discussion is needed on the issue because there is no issue, it is simply you know not allowed. Not meaning to sound bitchy or rude, but it kinda saddens me to think you actually wrote a lengthy paragraph about why Joe shouldn't win it, when you could have just as easily dedicated your energy in to something more positive like an equally as lengthy paragraph as to why someone else SHOULD win the award. I mean this in the nicest way possibly, but UOTM is not VFH, the voting is on real people who have real feelings and might actually get discouraged and hurt when someone writes something like that about them when they could have voted on someone else. I know its in your nature to be critical sometime, but come on, he may not do a lot but he's a nice enough guy and doesn't deserve a rant like that :) ~Sir Frosty (Talk to me!)
10:20, March 5, 2012 (UTC)
- It is allowed and it has always been allowed, to my knowledge. I have no idea where people got the idea that it wasn't, but Zombiebaron was in error at the time and this was made clear. And mon, I'm sure Joe is a lovely guy and all, but it's pretty telling about the current state of the website that people are seriously considering him as a candidate at this stage. The fellow is a gobshite of the highest order, and showing the will to improve does not change that inherently, though it does show the will to improve. If this continues, and learns along the way, that is when he would deserve an award. Meantime, actual encouragement and meaningful feedback would be far more useful than dumping something that used to mean something on what the mob has decided is the only guy left. Thing is, there is simply no reason why someone needs to win every month; if we have no deserving candidates, we have no deserving candidates, and Joe is definitely not deserving at this point. Sorry, but that's just how I feel on the matter, although if he reads this, I hope he will take it for what it is, a view on the now, and continue to work on his contributions instead of getting discouraged-like.
- The thing is, Frosty, you just can't get very far only encouraging folks. Useful feedback cannot be entirely positive, and some things do fail. Our failures are a large part of how we learn. Recall your own failures... and recall your successes. Which taught more? Would the successes have meant as much without the failures? ~
17:18, 5 March 2012
- Actually, I take that back - it's not that there's nobody deserving, just that people have been mobbing as a... what was it the guy called it? A group of bloody loonies? It's like they're latching onto the first idea they see and not actually looking at anything else. I looked and came up with a whole list of people who might deserve it:
- Ajraddatz (Talk • Contribs (del) • Editcount • Block (rem-lst-all) • Logs • Groups)

For. for the lot is an against regardless. ~
18:15, 5 March 2012
- Good list, keep it around. I nommed Joe because of the SOPA protest, which was an international success and he inspired our getting involved in it. That's a damn fine thing to have done, so I looked into his other work and saw the contest he started, his eager participation in idea making and group bonding (that Goat Se clan thing was at least an attempt at greatly improving the wiki), and his long service here, so I did put some thought into it and was not just drawing a name from a hat (a bowler, with a brim for palming cards). After Joe kicked off the SOPA thing, you and I and a few other people took it and ran with it, but imnho that's one of the "biggest" things to happen around here in the past couple of months. Aleister 18:22 5-3-'12
- I would add Zarbag (Talk • Contribs (del) • Editcount • Block (rem-lst-all) • Logs • Groups). --
RomArtus*Imperator ® (Orate) 18:38, March 5, 2012 (UTC)
- The contest he started caused more harm than good to the wiki, forced considerable admin intervention and resulted in at least one user getting indefinitely banned. The SOPA thing, on the other hand... did you know ideas are worthless, by themselves? Everybody has ideas; doesn't mean a thing if they haven't the will, skill, or experience to carry the right ones out, to test them and to take criticism and to reevaluate and redesign them until they have something tangible. Do you know who came up with the actual thing we used for the blackout? It was me. After all the discussion around the place, random users haunting forums tossing around ideas for the past few weeks, something like ten hours before the thing itself, I was told on IRC to actually do something. Thus I sorted through some of the more recent ideas people had thrown around, I looked at the test wikipedia, at the forum, at the backlogs on IRC, and then I decided what to actually do, and I bloody did it. I had help, of course - Sannse's text provided the substance, and the test wikipedia provided the format, but I still had to actually make it happen. Got a totally crazy idea as to how to put it on the site and spent the next while fighting with the sitenotice, which sort of worked. It was Olipro finally came to all our aid and fixed that.
- People have ideas all the time. This is why blogs are so popular, why people enjoy talking about things so much, and complaining about things, and saying, this could be better if ___, but they don't mean anything unless people actually do something with them. This is why Twitter and Google are successful - folks had ideas and then made them happen, they got feedback and improved them, they tossed the worse ideas out (rather like how we didn't blank any of the articles themselves as Joe suggested), and thus they succeeded. Similarly people have ideas for what to write, too, and these ideas are not worth a thing if they never actually write them. When you take a title and turn it into a masterpiece, that is when the title attains its worth, and it is your writing that is the worth, not the idea, but the implementation. And it is generally the implementation that is the hard part.
- Romartus: Yeah, he's a good one. Content contributors are so underrated these days, but without them the wiki ain't squat. ~
21:16, 5 March 2012
- I agree with everything you say, yet, like you, I know the part I played in the SOPA process here, and I wouldn't have done it if Joe hadn't both inspired me and challenged me to research it. Of course I know the job you did with the template chop, the best I saw that day, and you deserve two or three of those feather in the cap things. So my nomination comes from a personal perspective of what Joe did to encourage me, and then I saw was occurred up line from there. Aleister 22:51 5-3-'12
- Of course you're welcome to nominate and vote for whoever you feel is most deserving, and if you want to support his efforts, good. Efforts are worth supporting, and while I don't think he deservers an award at this point, well, he probably will in time. Really, are we have here are views and I explained mine. You explained yours... man, we do a lot of explaining around here. Do people ever put that much effort into writing anymore? ~
03:42, 7 March 2012
- Actually, Aleister is a giant prolific contributors to the wiki...he puts lots of effort into writing. Chiefjustice is probably the most respected admin here. Frosty is one of the most hard working patrollers/worker bee/nominator/caretaker/Uuber-uncyclopedian, Mattsnow is the new cornerstone of UnNews and all of them are a little of everything else. Lyrithya, none of those users are bandwagon-hopping lazy mindless pithy drones who can't think for themselves nor have a solid point of view behind their nom and voting. I find these lines more and more painful to read each time. Just as Skullthumper had to ban me for me to come down a level and respect these competitive votes against Joe, I wish you'd reconsider discrediting chunks of the community like this. I'm going to do my best to scale back my agressive approach to voting for admins, your advice on my talk page, disagreements about policy, evolution and change on the wiki. Could you please please reconsider that attitude and perhaps focus on a proactive one? For example, would you consider joining me in trying to get nOObs to stick around more for example? - I agree with everything you say, yet, like you, I know the part I played in the SOPA process here, and I wouldn't have done it if Joe hadn't both inspired me and challenged me to research it. Of course I know the job you did with the template chop, the best I saw that day, and you deserve two or three of those feather in the cap things. So my nomination comes from a personal perspective of what Joe did to encourage me, and then I saw was occurred up line from there. Aleister 22:51 5-3-'12
- Romartus: Yeah, he's a good one. Content contributors are so underrated these days, but without them the wiki ain't squat. ~
- I would add Zarbag (Talk • Contribs (del) • Editcount • Block (rem-lst-all) • Logs • Groups). --
- Good list, keep it around.
- Actually, I take that back - it's not that there's nobody deserving, just that people have been mobbing as a... what was it the guy called it? A group of bloody loonies? It's like they're latching onto the first idea they see and not actually looking at anything else. I looked and came up with a whole list of people who might deserve it:

edit My signature
Has had a bit of a facelift, so that it's similar to what it was before, but has a more appropriate timestamp. And does span title count in signature length? Pup 03:01 12 Mar '12
- Okay - that was just completely rude. You know that I'm happy to change my signature as soon as you ask - in fact I did. I'm happy to remove the span titles (as I'm assuming that's what your issue is) and changed it to a static time signature - something that has never been referred to in any policy on signatures, and is still not included in UN:SIG. And I've done it simply to be nice to you, as nobody else on this wiki has made a single complaint about the relative time signature in the past. Please restore the signature, and I'll remove the span titles, if that is your concern. Otherwise, tell me what your issue is, given it was a static time stamp on the signature. Especially given that this hasn't even had you saying a single word on it. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by PuppyOnTheRadio (talk • contribs) Mon, 12 Mar 2012 03:52:16
- This has nothing to do with the span titles. I am just sick and tired of arguing with you about your signature, and yes, it is arguing; had you been willing to change it for the asking you would have ditched the dynamic thing the first time I asked you to several months ago, not argued over it to the point where I just gave up so you'd go away. As for UN:SIG, do you seriously expect us to somehow divine and list every possible bad thing people could come up with, from fixed position objects to embedded flash to sound to marquee to popups to browser-specific functions to who the hell knows what else? We have better things to do, and after some amount of specification, it really just comes down to common sense, and when that fails, asking people to change it. Similarly, when the thing says to include a timestamp, it's supposed to be common sense that that means a complete date and time, and a readable date and time at that, not in some random order or in wingdings or what have you, because that's just not useful as a timestamp.
- So just stop it, please. I've restored your signature, but seriously, enough is enough. Stop trying to make all the weirdest things you can, do something normal, and instead waving around your e-penis all special-like, actually do something useful like your userpage would indicate you do. ~
04:14, 12 March 2012
- Are you guys actually sweating bullets over timestamps? What the actual fuck -- 04:18, March 12, 2012 (UTC)
- It has a non-dynamic timestamp. It's a Unix time code as explained here. As for the signature argument, I changed this several times when asked, and the most recent change was to do the very thing you asked for and have it display the date and time in a clear format. I'm no longer going to use it as a signature going forward, simply to keep you happy. I've decided that from now on though I couldn't be buggered being polite to you over this any more, or in fact in relationship to anything else. And as for doing something useful - have you even looked at what has happened to the number of articles waiting for review recently, or the number of n00bs that I've been encouraging to continue writing and grow on here? This is not your website so could you please extricate your head from whatever darkened pit you've decided to ram it into while at the same time wailing Oh pity me being the only person who does anything around here, and actually realise that there is an entire community around here who make this place work - you and I are actually only an extremely minor part of it - if we never appeared here again in three days people would barely remember our names. This is actually taking me away from doing exactly what you've asked me to do, because of your - and only your - minor inconvenience over one small thing. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by PuppyOnTheRadio (talk • contribs) Mon, 12 Mar 2012 04:28:57 +0000
edit Apologies
I crossed the line there. Sorry. PR 05:27 12-03-12
- Thank you for realising that; I likewise apologise for deleting your signature instead of continuing to attempt to discuss matters with you.
- Now please, fix your signature so that it identifies you by more than your annoyingness - while that has gotten to be a defining enough feature that it does technically qualify under the rules in UN:SIG, it's still annoying. And the timestamp likewise remains ambiguous, as on many days there will simply be no way to tell which thing is the day, month, or year without looking at the history, which as previously stated defeats the purpose of having a timestamp in the first place. (While it may be apparent to you that it is in a particular format, it won't be to others - that's why identifiers like BB uses, such as commas and spelling out part of the monthname, and if the year is shortened, using a ', are so useful. Could be american format, normal format, or computer people format for all we know otherwise.)
- And yes, I am well aware my own timestamps have not been the best in this regard, for which I can only apologise to anyone who has tried to discern them. ~

For perhaps crossing the line by giving you a temporaty deopping there. - In either case raising concerns with the person first helps, and always when one has a contentious opinion on something they should probably talk to someone else as well prior to taking action just to be sure they're not overstepping themselves. But the thing is, deopping people and banning people just ain't the same thing, and if an admin really does need to be banned, then perhaps they oughtn't be an admin in the first place... but neither is that something for any single person to determine, otherwise that just tramples on the decisions of everyone else who voted to make them one. - Perhaps you calming down and/or getting perspective on your actions? -- 11:11, March 12, 2012 (UTC)
- @Lyrithya: I understand your perspective, but I think you're wrong. There are a number of times where users have been banned without any consultation and discussion. You'll have even done it yourself. And it's usually done as a way of starting to point out to someone they're being a dick. In this case, TKF saw an argument between two users who have good standing within the community, and he felt both of them needed to have some time out. The de-oppage was always intended to be a temporary thing. As for acting unilaterally - Dr. Skully banned Zana, and no other admin would lift that ban as he was the one who dd the banning. Wether he was right or not, he acted unilaterally at the time of banning, and given this stance between admins for it to continue the decision has been left solely in his hands. Right or wrong decision, it's his because he was given the position due to a community vote.
- We give this authority to admins, and it's long accepted and upheld. We give the right to give/revoke user rights to a 'crat, but when he/she uses it all of a sudden it's the wrong thing to do, despite having the same thing done to multiple users on a daily basis? As a banning technique it wasn't even that effective - PIGGY could have lifted your ban without a second thought
- As for your final passive aggressive note of not caring if you do become de-opped... I can only assume you mean on a permanent basis, which is very different to what was the situation earlier where you were de-opped for the period of an hour. If you no longer care, then you probably shouldn't be an admin any further. That kind of comment would be the sort of thing that would make me vote against a nomination at VFS. Both Al and I have said exactly that on previous nominations. So maybe you should consider a wiki break, or requesting a de-oppage, or something that will mean that the Lyrithya that I would nominate and vote for at VFS comes back to play with us at some stage. I really like her. This current negative version, not so much. And whatever it is IRL that is making you feel this way, I really hope it doesn't last, because we - I - care about you too much to see you feeling this way. Pup 10:47 13 Mar '12
- Lyrithya, I'm sorry you're bummed out right now about something on the wiki. Clearly, very bummed out. I think everyone likes you too much and is too greatful for everything you do to not say anything nor slap anyone on the wrist for the things said and they way they are said. I have a voodoo doll of you and I stick pins in its eyes and liver every night...at least 500 of those pins ... but I don't think you should not be an admin. No way. I hope you get over being bummed out before you decide to throw in the towel. Hopefuly --ShabiDOO 23:30, March 13, 2012 (UTC)
- Mon, don't read into it, please. Some people are just morons, so if they want to make a fuss about me without offering anything constructive, I told them where to go. Meantime I'm busy enough without having to deal with people defending their own and each other's bruised egos against whatever the latest perceived slight happens to be.
- And for you two, and you know who you are, before you call this passive aggression, please look up the meaning of 'passive aggression'. This is not passive aggression. This is actual aggression. Passive aggression is what people do when they don't like something but also don't actually do much of anything about it besides perhaps some non-directed passing words, much as is typical of diplomacy and satire, whereas currently I'm actively challenging you to continue making utter dicks of yourselves if you'd like. Good day. ~

- As oppose to following the example of you, Al, TKF, BB, and a myriad of other users who don't follow UN:SIG. Which I believe my signature was following prior to it being deleted, as it had my name, my talk page, and the date in there. I course, it did get deleted as someone may have gotten confused by "12-3-12" as relating to an edit made in December 2003. Of course, it was rectified after that, so there was clarity behind it. But of course, given that you have decided to become the creator and arbiter of rules that you don't feel apply to yourself, I don't expect that rational discussion will actually make any difference to you, so I appear to be embarrassing myself by being polite to you yet again. Pup 03:16 16 Mar '12

- I love clarity. 12:03 21 Apr
- On the subject of clarity I demand more of it. Could you be a dear and go over to the VFS and make it clear which 2 you are voting on which 2 you are making an observation on. For the record TKF has assumed you are voting against me and Pup and making a judgement call in favour of Oliphaunte and Xamralco. If that is wrong please fix that up or something and if it correct, make it clearer. It will increase clarity and allow me to decide how many forks I will be stabbing you with (Oops I've said too much, forget ever hearing about the forks...) ~Sir Frosty (Talk to me!)

- You should try a toy fork. Very effective, especially on the ground crabs. And a VFS, you say? Wasn't there just one the other month? Very strange. ~
- No? I've been digging all this time with a toy spoon for nothing? Even if you escape again (flee the confines of the gilded cage while you can, but wait a second...) there is a VFS going on that's entering its final stretch, in case you didn't know. I'm not involved, which is for the best. Fleet feet flee freely. Al April (UTC)
edit Welcome back!
Good to see you around! Having a chat with ZB recently about the site banner, and we were considering having a "Lyrithya" style banner to encourage IPs visiting to join. It got sidetracked along the way with PB, somehow. You said something about fundraising time with that change - what do you think about it's usage for encouraging newcomers? (I recall we used to have them throughout the calendar, but I understand the rationale.) 09:58 21 Apr
- And how would a banner or other message help with user addition and retention? They have to want to stick around to do so; putting up a general notice encouraging people to create accounts does not make them any more likely to want to come back, but it would make the site look desperate. Encouraging people more subtly to edit, to work on things and thus put an actual investment into the place can be more effective, but that requires more targeted notices, and also for a less stupid editing experience in general. Unfortunately the latter is probably impossible with Wikia, anyway, but... yeah. ~
10:08, 21 April 2012
- I agree with the concept of investing in individuals. I'm also thinking the first step is getting people to understand a bit more about us as a community. As for desperate... it's advertising of a sort. Any advertising is a matter of promoting a product or a service. Done the right way, it'll come across as a pitch at worst, as an attraction at best. But I'm more floating ideas at present, as IPs don't see the point in joining. Qzekrom took a while to join as a user, and he was personally recruited by a few different editors.
- I was also wondering about our edit window. It hasn't changed for the entire time I've been here, and it doesn't give any encouragement to join except a negative one. ("If you edit as an IP we will take your IP address and sell it on the black market for cookies.") I assume that somewhere in Mediawiki space we can adjust it. Maybe it's time we did? Let people know they can get credit for what they do here, and become part of a wider community, blah blah. (Oh, and if you haven't voted yet, we are going through a VFS for two new admins. Your perspective would be valued.) 11:20 21 Apr

- I was after your individual feedback before I go to a forum. You generally seem to have an opinion on things, and even if I don't agree with your opinion, I still value it. 12:02 21 Apr
- My opinion on the interface is that it's horrendous. Let's just leave it at that for now, lest I start ranting at Wikia and/or Spang again or something. ~

- Just for you I'll give it a look, although if the review policies have changed recently (which they appear to have), this may end badly. ~

edit I love you...
Just cause of what you said on VFS. I wish you'd come back. Your presence makes this site a bit more bearable amidst the rather discouraging amounts of negativity I feel from others.... --OliOmniOmbudsman

edit Can you tell me about moving thai uncyclopedia into wikia?
I see that old server which run our uncyclopedia is usually crash a lots. Thai Uncyclopedian are planing to move into wikia server. Can you tell me how to? I will ask thai uncyclopedia's admin to begin moving (I can't done myself because I'm just a normal user) Thank --Warofdefeat (talk) 01:48, April 25, 2012 (UTC)
- To move anywhere, you will first need your wiki's database. You'll need to contact carlb for a copy, and to get the existing wiki closed, as well as domains repointed to the new one.
- Are you decided on moving to Wikia, though? You should probably consider other options first - as gracious hosts as they have been, they, like carlb, have their issues, and they have also been getting worse as to their abilities to host even the existing Uncyclopedias here, let alone take on new ones. If you do choose to go with Wikia and they accept you, they should be able to walk your folks through the process, however I must warn you that the trip will be one way. Once a wiki moves to Wikia, there is no recovering it, and no changing your mind and going somewhere else without incredible difficulty.
- Regardless, to enquire about moving to Wikia, you can contact their staff using Special:Contact/general on any Wikia wiki, or email them at community@wikia.com. ~

- While it is an interesting approach to using talkpages like a comment board, I'm not sure it'll work too well here. Also, it's very bright.
- Ifnum just checks if the thing is a number; if you always use numbers with whatever it would be checking you shouldn't need it anyway, yeah. But generally speaking, I don't know. Anything. ~

Forum:Vote to De-Op Lyrithya 03:20 07 May
edit :)
I was really impressed by your response to the deop page. I can't imagine what it must feel like to have your name printed at the top of a de-opforum and to be judged by the whole community on it. Yikes! In any case, I don't think we could have expected a better attitude and reply from you :) --ShabiDOO 11:25, May 8, 2012 (UTC)
- You think that was from Lyrithya? Hahahahaha. I hacked the account and wrote that, just so I could use the onion juice line. Life is unfair, and you can call me by my nickname on the web - The Greenland Hacker. Aleister (UTC)
- Didn't seem to help matters any, unfortunately, but no matter. One thing is certain: you're the Redland Hacker, mon; I know you, red like the blood of the enemies you haven't slain. ~
00:42, 9 May 2012
- I think anything you would have said to the dick-puppet would have fallen on deaf ears. Impossible situation to deal with. Doesn't mean that it wasn't helpful, trust me.
- Who is the Redlank Hacker, me? or Aleister the terrorist? --ShabiDOO 10:56, May 9, 2012 (UTC)
- Aleister. He's claiming to be green, but I know better; it's all lies. All lies, I tell you. ~

edit Your apology
You asked me to look through your edits and point out what it is that you've done wrong. I'm just going to point out the one made prior to your apology.
- 16:48, May 8, 2012 (diff | hist) User talk:Zombiebaron (→That email: Prove me wrong, puppy. I dare you.)
That has all the hallmarks of someone who is:
- Interrupting a conversation that has nothing to do with them
- Acting based upon having only a portion of the information
- Continuing a stupid personal vendetta
- Being as arrogantly orthodox as what brought us to that forum in the first place
So, given that your behaviour doesn't seem to be at all altered, that you're now taking your personal vendetta over to other sites, and that you don't seem to be in the slightest contrite but are willing to act like you are months after the event, and that you will continue to feel justified in being a cow, I feel I can comfortably tell you that you can shove your faux apology back into the dark abyss that it came from. If you actually start to act like a person willing to be part of a team and get off your orthodox and completely unjustified high horse, then - and only then - would I even consider that anything coming from you may actually be useful. Given that you appear to have all but abandoned the site, I'm not expecting that to come at any time soon. And I never expected you to apologise, and I don't want you to apologise. I couldn't give a flying fuck if you apologise, because it means nothing to me. What I want is you to come back and be the asset to the site that you used to be! 03:09 08 May
- I'm not sure how you expect me to address this. ~

For the love of all that is evil in the universe, could you please stop using citations of Wikipedia policies when addressing us lowly non-admins? This isn't fucking Wikipedia. Wikipedia policies have almost nothing germane to this site. Citing Wikipedia policies comes across as either the actions of an oblivious Admin-Bot, or else as stilted and condescending. Neither is endearing. My two cents. Thank you. ~ Tue, May 8 '12 15:53 (UTC)
- Actually, it's customary to use Wikipedia policy pages to illustrate a point as they're an excellent descriptor of problems that are common everywhere on the internet. We're just too lazy to write our own. -RAHB 00:49, May 9, 2012 (UTC)
- They are not funny though! UN:WP!!! MrN
Fork you! 00:51, May 9
- Yeah, but seriously...just use simple English. It's nice to hear "don't talk about vandals on other users' talk pages. It just encourages them" instead of "WP:DENY". I mean...whut? I don't give a dead rat for Wikipedia. Speak English. ~ Wed, May 9 '12 0:53 (UTC)
- That's the point. They're concepts that are very difficult to illustrate in simple terms. Wikipedia is written in English. They are not the Death Star. Saying "I don't like that policy because it's from Wikipedia" is the stupidest shit I've ever heard. You're grasping for straws, man. -RAHB 00:57, May 9, 2012 (UTC)
- Whatever. ~ Wed, May 9 '12 0:59 (UTC)
- They are not difficult to illustrate in simple terms because Bizzee just did that, like, right above your comment. We're all writers here, we should all be able to summarize a policy in, at the very most, a couple sentences, no? It's certainly more encouraging than citing off-site policies like they're scripture. When you reword it yourself, it actually makes the points seem more relevant, too. -- 20:22, May 9, 2012 (UTC)
- ^^^Bingo. ~ Wed, May 9 '12 21:34 (UTC)

- What RAHB said, though usually it's more guidelines and essays that we use than policies. Wikimedians are obsessed with writing everything down, and a lot of it is pretty universal, so why even bother to write our own when they already illustrated the point quite nicely? It's the same reason as why our second rule is just a link to one of their essays, really. ~
18:57, 9 May 2012
- I agree with Bizzee that an explanation of what a user did wrong in the specific case in question, written in full sentences, is more helpful than a link to a Wikipedia essay. Though if the Wikipedia essay functions as a further elaboration on the issue in question, I don't see anything wrong with linking it. 19:11, 9 May 2012
- Mmm, but how does one do that? Some do lend themselves quite well - for a few one can even just spell out the full title of the page and that will sum it up, but in others the only way to paraphrase it would be to rewrite the entire thing, and with uncyclopedians the slightest slip up in wording can spell disaster. Call someone a diva, for instance, and either one would have to sum up the entire essay every time (and Uncyclopedia has a lot of divas), or just hope people actually follow the link and look at a more eloquent, less pointed version from the start. I will try to be less curt in the former cases and spell things out, but I don't really know what to say about the latter. ~
19:45, 9 May 2012
- Well, if you're using a specific term in a way specific to Wikipedia, you can say "Don't act like a diva (read the introduction to know what I mean)." When people see a link to a Wikipedia essay page, they'll often not click it because they expect a very long page they don't want to bother reading. But if you specify a specific not-too-long part, like the lead or the in-a-nuthshell, they'll feel far less inhibited to check out what you're talking about. 20:10, 9 May 2012
