Just noticed you nominated me for n00b of the month. I've noticed people tend to give pictures in thanks and I know that a picture is worth a thousand words, but also that less is more, so here’s 42/1,000 of a picture. ~ Humbuck Talk 05:24, March 2, 2011 (UTC)

They do? At any rate, you seem pretty amazing, so don't thank me... just... be amazing. That's all. That's all we need. For now, at least. Your heart may come later. 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy 05:26, 2 March 2011
I heard it's in the mail. I ordered one a month ago and it was on backorder, so it still hasn't come. They sent me a link to this website and I figured it'd pass the time until then. ~ Humbuck Talk 05:29, March 2, 2011 (UTC)

For the nom for RotM. Really appreciate it. I was wondering if there's a reason why I'm not in the table for peeing proletariat on User:Cajek/Pee any more. It says I was the last one to review something (right at the bottom there, hey look at that) but my name isn't in the actual table...No idea if that was you (I'm too lazy to check) was just wondering if there was a reason. Thanks for saying how your felt and putting it out there. I honestly don't care ever having to use pissing jokes again nor anything if someone really feels so strongly about it. But the way you said it was, in my humble opinion, mean even if someone else agrees, and its the only time anything has ever really itched me on this website. --ShabiDOO 01:01, March 3, 2011 (UTC)

I for one thought it was perfect. Monkeys in the high branches piss, and the piss has to go someplace and it often falls in the faces of the monkeys on the branches below. So it is a very literal expression. In fact I've done a long study of this kind of thing (true). Aleister 1:22 3-3-'11
Wasn't The Man Who Would Be King entirely motivated by sectarian anger about being peed on from upstream? Anyway, I thought "itch" was exclusively intransitive. But piss on it. Spıke Ѧ 01:26 3-Mar-11
Sorry... perhaps I overreacted. All I really meant was that the repetition was... well, redundant. Regardless of what I or others find funny, perhaps vary these things a little more in the future? In this case, for instance, instead of just saying 'pissing in your face' twenty times, you could mix in some links to poop-throwing monkeys, some references to monkeys on their typewriters... and then perhaps urinating on the complete works of Shakespeare instead of appreciating it, if you really must involve more pee. Or something. More options could mean more likely for more folks to be amused by some of it, though, as well as being less annoying... 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy 02:19, 3 March 2011
But there are so many you have missed this week. Such as peeing on shoes, peeing on pants, peeing on legs, on laps. But, sigh, you are right, diversifimication is important with gags. I think we are going to have to take a time out, and think about things before we take over the world together.
PS you have a 2 hour extention cause of the topic mix up. --ShabiDOO 02:47, March 3, 2011 (UTC)

And english can improve. So how about some cheesecake? 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy 22:26, 4 March 2011

I hate Illogicopedia. My IP adress was blocked over there! and for what? their website is lame? they only have 150,000 Visits! Uncyclopedia has 22 million! which sound better? And Illogiopedia's motto, "In illogic we trust" is stolen from Encyclopedia Dramatica! (I have a Userpage on ED, by the way). - Barn-owl LOL vandalz

It's all relative. What you consider lame, I consider dear... and who cares how many hits it gets if there is something to it? There is something to all of these, though, but I prefer the madness. Roberto only interferes some of the time. 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy 22:32, 4 March 2011

Roberto is the reason i'm blocked. even though I was going to edit Illogicopedia but my IP adress had a 6 month ban (which is now infinite, for some reason) before I found the site. Roberto (And his sockpuppet Uncyclopedian666) Is my classmate in High school (Where both 15 so where responsible and NOT 12 year olds invading the Internet) and he says he got a virus there but it's clearly bullshit. I don't like Illogicopedia but I wouldn't make 100s of Vandal accounts and then spam attack it. - Barn-owl LOL vandalz

And please don't block me because I'm only 15, I've played Grand Theft Auto and all the rest, And PEGI has been ineffective at trying to stop me playing games, but I'm not Invading the internet, I'm not a vandal (though Roberto is) and I'm a well educated person. I'm glad you got banned at Illogico, because if I'm reading that right it's what brought you here, to the major leagues. But someone should revive you over there and talk to Roberto about it, then ban him from here!!! And tell me, how do you look up how many hits a site has gotten, either total like you said above, or daily, Thanks, I've been interested in that. Aleister 23:23 4-3-'1

2 options: either go to the bottom of the page and click "About" and you will find a part it should tell you. For example, youtube says it has been accessed 1,371,793,974 times as of 4th march 2011. Or you could just go to the ".info" domain and it will tell you their at the "About:<- website name here ->" of the website. I Hope this helped. - Barn-owl LOL vandalz

Thanks! Almost helped. The bottom of what page? I went to the bottom of this page and it says "About wikia" which was no help. I will play around with the other. Hmmm, the bottom of the main page? Thanks again, Aleister 23:36 4-3-'11

I only deleted about 400 this morning. Something about not having good lists... PotR, love, you're good with codings. Would you know how to make a DPL to list unused images? Can DPLs be embedded within DPLs? Any way to do it sectionally? Some other way? Or something else? Grar... or API, know anything about that? 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy 22:10, 7 March 2011
Dpl is a weak point of mine. I have tried to create a similar DPL in the past and it refused to complete parsing, so I'm not the one to ask. Spang is the DPL guru, but I was also wondering what text shows on an unused image page? Would google be able to pick that up? Pup 11:25 07 Mar '11
They say 'this file is not used on any page' or something like that. But it's the same across them, whatever it is. Real question is, how up-to-date would Google be, and would it really be any use for formulating a list of a few thousand thingies? Because that seems rather iffy at best. 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy 01:08, 8 March 2011

I believe you've done it, thanks. This was working fine until they changed MediaWiki versions; wasn't anything anyone did. I guess that the space was formerly included in the name of the month. It still bugs me that articles in this DPL are sorted based on page creation, and by author's local time. Headlines has been protected ever since the drama last August about reskin of the UnNews Front Page. Spıke Ѧ 01:21 8-Mar-11

Oh, I see. So it was... not anyone we know. Weird. Or it could have just kept the things separate by default, but anyhow.
What order would be better? Might be doable. Emphasis on might. I plead incompetence. 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy 01:47, 8 March 2011

I've come to accept initial-creation-date. The previous system, not based on DPL, gave the date based on the article's declared {{Date}}, which was turned from formula into reality the instant you submitted an article to UnNews, but of course that requires that we look inside every file in the namespace every time someone wants the Front Page built. But I've complained in the Forum on creating an article for Wednesday UTC and having it dated Tuesday because it's still Tuesday here. I've read the documentation, didn't find anything to this level of detail, and don't think you'll get any farther or even find it a good use of your time. Spıke Ѧ 01:56 8-Mar-11

What's wrong with looking inside the files? It's a bloody database - that kind of thing is what a database is for! But... eh. Hmm. Bloody strange. 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy 02:26, 8 March 2011

It's a database in any case. Usually, walking through a directory to get the names of the files, which you must do anyway, is sufficient to obtain the creation date of each. Reading each such file probably doubles the necessary disk accesses. DPL is essentially a language by which you get directory listings and force them to a desired format--not a language by which you get anything you'd like to happen. In the previous implementation, someone probably wrote C code to read every UnNews and interpret the {{Date}} template. The promise of DPL was to be faster and simpler; I just dislike this consequence, mostly because new articles that I might want to put on the Front Page don't appear at the top of the Recent news list. Spıke Ѧ 02:38 8-Mar-11

It's all stored in tables... so what if it has to access one more field and rifle through the contents? For... every single thing... mon, if I ever get around to it, I will look into this, however idiotic it may be. I'm all for straining the servers, because I'm all for dishing some annoyance back at wikia after all the annoying things they do, never mind how many of them turn out to just be default mediawiki things. 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy 02:40, 8 March 2011

Aptly named. So many of the names in red look sooooo interesting. During the day yesterday and today, while I tried discussing your deletions, hundreds and hundreds have gone into the killing field. Even as I tried to negotiate a way to save a few hundred, they still are killed. I guess I'm the only one concerned about this, and that kind of confuses me, that nobody else is very concerned. It makes me look like a weird geek who likes to save pics of clowns with galoushes and tornadoes picking up dogs. The net result of my discussions with you is to save one good pic which ended up on Obesity and is now one of the funniest things there imnho. Anyway, you were the person who hated the Shatner pic on Science Fiction, again my fave thing on that page, so I guess you and I have very different points of view on pics. Or am I wrong? Have you been more selective because of my voice in the wilderness? Maybe. Hope springs eternal. Aleister 4:33 8-3-'11

Somewhat more so. Slightly. But as Zombiebaron said, it's more an issue of the overwhelming mess, than anything else. >.< 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy 08:13, 8 March 2011

Thanks for catching all the mistakes and once again saving me from looking like the complete moron. As I said in a summary note a couple of days ago, when the spelling came by it didn't pollinate me. Could you please restore Marcel Duchamp, Master of Ready Mades?

You know, as an artist, Marcel Duchamp, Master of Ready Mades was very controversial. Was his work art, or just laziness? Was he a genius who was pushing the very definition of art, or was he simply a guy who was screwing with people? Much of his ready mades were not allowed in museums because of this fact. Now, years later, the man is still considered controversial. One could even say the art debates that he has inspired are a form of art in and of themselves. By deleting this article of course, you have in a sense contributed to his legacy. For that, I thank you.

However, I take offense at you labeling the article as "memey". Just because something is short or did not take a lot of work does not make something memey. To say so would be degrading Duchamps ready-mades themselves as "memey", for all the man did was turn a urinal upside down and call it a fountain. I am merely continuing in that tradition. If you still think it's not worth keeping, would you at least restore it and put it on VFD? I am sure that there are plenty of people on this site who would appreciate it, and I would much appreciate the gesture. After all, more than anything, I want to start a dialogue with this, hence the Pee Review.

While we're on the topic of Pee Review, I must say I was confused. Certainly you must agree that image review would not work in this case. The article itself is more than the image. It is the image with the text underneath as well as categorizations and a "see also" section. Besides that, I did not make the image, in much the same way that Duchamp did not "build" a urinal before turning it into a fountain. While the article is short, there is certainly plenty of feedback that one could give on it. To say that it's too short to review is ironically just the kind of feedback that one could put in the review.

Many thanks for your time, and I sincerely hope you at least consider restoring this. 14:56, March 8, 2011 (UTC)

I'll put in my two cents and say I support restoration. I'm more amused than annoyed by that page, at least for the time being. But, Lyri deleted it, so I'll leave it to Lyri. Tinymasaru.gifpillow talk 16:18, March 8, 2011 (UTC)
I'd have more hesitant, but we already have a perfectly fine article on the subject, and this one was also created with a {{PeeReview}} on it, as well as a link to a nonexistent retrospective. Made it seem more like the person was specifically trying to avoid deletion by using Pee Review and going for a status as a one-liner in mainspace just for the sake of having a one-liner in mainspace (Isn't that what UnDictionary is for?)... or was it simply trying to stir up drama? Either way, is that really what we want to encourage?
Person, you say you take offence at my labelling the article memey? You were the one who did that, not I - anything with a retrospective is already in the fluffy ground of in-joke/meme/self-reference, whichever one's which - that is what a retrospective is. And reviews are for improving articles, and for that, they need content to review. But the artist wouldn't have gone for a review at all, I suspect, unless to troll the reviewer, and our reviewers really don't need that, especially not from IPs. It's drama, and drama we have plenty of that as it is from all the ingrates already here... perhaps you might want to consider joining them? Er... I mean, creating an account. If you did, I would be more than happy to userfy the thing, after which discussion could more easily follow, and chances are you might be taken a little more seriously... maybe. 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy 17:39, 8 March 2011
I figured somebody would add a retrospective to an article like that sooner or later. I personally think it would ruin it, but I also was realistic and wanted to save somebody the trouble. I would have no problem removing the "retrospective" part as I think that would better preserve the purity of the joke. You are welcome to suspect what you like about me, but I can tell you that I personally wanted a review for pure reasons. I think there's plenty of content to review, and I think that people could easily suggest other methods to change the joke. I may not necessarily agree with what other people have to say, but I do respect all opinions, and I learn from all of them.

As far as the opinion that this would be stirring up drama, to that I can argue very little against. Indeed, articles like these do tend to stir up drama, just as putting an upside down urinal in an art museum creates drama. But there is drama for its own sake and drama for art's sake. Yes this would be controversial. All the more reason to keep it, in my opinion. I find it a little disconcerting that you would delete this just to keep people from arguing about it. If they don't like it, they don't. If they do, they do. The fact that they disagree over what is worthwhile is art in of itself to me. As far as me being an I.P. I cannot create an account because I am a privacy freak. I don't use any social networks, I don't use google, I don't keep any of my cookies, I try to avoid any webpages with the "like" button on them because they track you, I don't use flash, and I don't sign up for accounts for pages like this. My personal information is very important for me, and worth the right to only get half a vote, as well as the inablility to upload images. Please don't tell me that because I value these things you have an inherent bias against me. 18:12, March 8, 2011 (UTC)

That's nice. This isn't a forum, however - there forums and sites aplenty for discussion and whatnot; might I suggest taking it to one of those if what you are after are the reactions? Also, if you're concerned about privacy, revealing your IP really isn't the way to go. Just saying. 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy 18:19, 8 March 2011
That's also what proxies are for. Forums won't get me the article back. 18:23, March 8, 2011 (UTC)
That's also what accounts are for. 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy 18:30, 8 March 2011
mmm... yeah, I've got to say, I'd be a lot more sympathetic towards your cause if you weren't so bizarrely paranoid that you think creating a username would give some government agency the ability to track you down and attach a radio to your brain. Lyri's a well-known user here, and I cant even get any of her personal information, which is a shame, because I really wanted to order hilarious things on her credit card. Tinymasaru.gifpillow talk 19:44, March 8, 2011 (UTC)

Hello fellow IP (my IP number is Aleister). Signing up for an account asks nothing of your identity, just that you pick a user name. If it asks for your birthday or something, just make one up. No email needed, I don't think. You sound interesting and semi-intelligent, except for the paranoid thing (us Illuminati have our hands full already keeping track of the morons, let alone the semi-conscious and the jinns). And I'd like to see the page being discussed here, and ask that the title alone give the page some leeway and/or points in its favor for shortness and oddness. Aleister 20:55 8-3-'11

My presumption would be against a page consisting of only a photo and a caption, as the canon here is hoax encyclopedia articles--not cartoons. But you know what I take offense to?

  • People who understand that their work may be considered worthless and attach {{Pee review}} or {{WIP}} or {{ICU}} or all three, in advance of any such judgement, in order to defend it (especially in the impermanent world of UnNews).
  • People who introduce themselves to strangers with theatrics--
    • Of "taking offense." You surely disagree with Lyrithya's opinion of your work. How can you "take offense" to her opinion?
    • That by deleting an article she has inadvertently made a statement she might not intend to make
    • That she has uttered an irony that serves to contradict herself.

A request to restore the article and move it to VFD is above all a call for mass attention, that is, whoring, or especially getting someone else to whore for you. All of the above is tedious coming from within the "community." Coming from someone who, for whatever reason, avoids even establishing a presence here, is a waste of time. Spıke Ѧ 20:45 8-Mar-11

It's clear I'm going to get nowhere here, so I'll stop asking. I just want to clarify a few things first:
  • First, if I want to be private with my online activities, I think I have a right to that. I don't think it makes me paranoid, just careful. The more people know about you, the more they can use against you. You don't have to agree with me. I don't expect that. I just wish you would respect that decision. So you know, I have tried creating an account. I can live with giving a dummy e-mail, I can live with cookies, but I'm not going to drop my proxy, and for whatever reason, that's what I would have to do to do this. This site's all about free speech. I just don't feel I would have that as a user, not where I live.
  • Second, my goal in creating that little article was not to create drama, (although I apparently have, unintentionally). What I mean is that if drama happens, it happens. It's not the end of the world, yo. Discussion can be good sometimes too. Are you allowed to put articles in I.P. namespaces? If so, why not just put it there? That would essentially end this whole thing. I'll keep this I.P. if you are in fact, allowed to do that.
  • Finally, Spike. In my perception you are nothing but a cyberbully. I've seen your edits on this wiki when I was lurking and from what I can see, you love nothing more than pushing people around under the guise of playing helpy helper. On those grounds, I refuse to respond to any of your "points" you have to say, because it wouldn't help anything. You'd just keep spraying around more negativity. If you think that's a low blow, then I think you deserve it and somebody should have said it to you a long time ago.

Now then, I'm not going to try to stir up any more "drama" then I already probably have. I won't comment on here further, and I won't bother Lyrithya any further. For what it's worth, I'm sorry I asked. I know I'm off to a bad start, and I'm guessing that I'll probably get banned for what I said to Spike. Assuming I don't, what I'm going to do is create a nice, normal uncontroversial article, as drama free as I can make it, and move on. 06:21, March 9, 2011 (UTC)

I don't think anyone's going to ban you, proxy IP. Shit, I've made myself twice as obnoxious as you and eventually they made me a temporary admin. Actually, we'd very much like you to join the community. The fact that you're so argumentative suggests that you can probabily competently satirize, and that's a talent that we could use a little more of.
I'm really, really not aware of it being impossible to both surf in through a proxy *and* log in. I'm pretty sure it's completely possible. So the only layer of security you'd be giving up is the possibility that you could choose an account name that someone might recognize. And you could even get around that by letting me choose one for you: "User:Stephen Donald Westenchester." There you go. There really is zero security that you can achieve as that you couldn't as Stephen Donald Westenchester. In fact, the username might even be *more* secure, since people would have no real way of knowing you were surfing in on a proxy. Why do you say you'd have to drop your proxy? Maybe you know something I don't know. Maybe you're living under some kind of repressive Draconian government. You seem to speak pretty Americanized English, but, hell, that's possible elsewhere. Are the Libyans going to cut your fucking head off if you log in without a layer of security and write an article about Marcel Duchamp? I doubt it, but it's your tête.
Yes, you're completely allowed to keep your IP, and no one's going to stop you. But don't expect to either A) participate in stuff like VFD; or B) ever really be considered a full member of the site whose opinion we value because we don't want to lose you.
As for SPIKE, well, he throws some elbows, but he does a good job. You get used to agreeing with him when he makes a good point and telling him to fuck off when he makes a bad one. (Hi, SPIKE!) Tinymasaru.gifpillow talk 06:34, March 9, 2011 (UTC)

Something about unused images

I get a freakin job and immediately miss what was apparently some awesome, face-melting event on IRC or where ever about deleting unused images that would've been so fun to lurk for. Now, I'm sure this question was brought up at some point - scratch that, I hope this was brought up at some point - but is this issue really that big of a deal? Uncyclopedia has loads of unused images, yes, and the number grows constantly. It's nigh impossible to search said images; another uncontested yes. But does this affect the wiki in any way? Does the space used by the loner pics make the site slower? I'm sure this is a dumb question, and that's why I'm putting it on your talk page as opposed to the forum, but I'm asking it because I haven't seen anyone else ask it yet and I feel that it's in everyone's best interest that it be answered, and well, before anyone spends much more time on the subject. ~ Humbuck Talk 04:37, March 9, 2011 (UTC)

Eh, it's not terribly interesting. Three crazies trying to delete the wiki, that's all.
Anyway, no, it's not really hurting anything, far as I know... no more than all the stubs and dead-end pages and general bad articles are, at least, and we also try to clean those up. We have QA and VFD and all that whatnot for a reason, so what about pictures? Is some sort of order such a bad thing to want? The images heap is just a giant, ungodly mess in its current state and not helping anything, so why not make it potentially usable? Although with the images, there is also a bit of a legal concern, as well, as Hyperbole pointed out - fair use hardly applies if they ain't being used. We wouldn't get sued for the for the same reason nobody will ever find them and put them to use, but... eh. Order, mon. Isn't that enough? Don't you like stuff pretty?
Why does anyone do any fixy-uppy-cleaning things, anyhow? 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy 05:05, 9 March 2011
Deleting unused images is what separates us from the animals Jackofspades (talk) 05:32, March 9, 2011 (UTC)
I agree that it looks like crap (and with this project in general), but, playing Devil's Advocate here, is "order for order's sake" something to spend so much time on? I'll clean out or re-order a closet, but only if I'm going to use the space. Otherwise, it's just a waste of time so I close the door, forget about it, and fry some bigger fish with my time. Just something to think about. ~ Humbuck Talk 15:24, March 9, 2011 (UTC)
Same question, though - why do anything maintenance-related here, or anywhere else? Same thing with going through new pages, why waste one's time with that? They're just a pile of random pages created primarily by idiots; no pressing need to get rid of them... and then why VFD the ones that survive? Why VFD anything, for that matter? Why delete stupid categories or pointless templates that so amuse IPs to tack onto things?
I'm not a writer, mon. Never was. When I do, it's like doing battle with the mongoose, but in a language that people speak, and I do enough battle with the mongoose for the sake of trying to put things in order as it is. And order is patterns, which may not seem like much, but it makes things more comprehensible, from finding a shoe in your closet to finding a shortcut to an application in your window manager's main menu to predicting the global economy if some whatever happens. A definable series is much easier to really wrap one's mind around than a compilation of raw data, and much more usable. Graph the data and then the pattern may show up, but you still need to go one step further to get a definition out of it, and you need that to really do anything with it. After that, the data is as good as meaningless; just complicates matters if one tries to keep it all, fit it all. Likewise, we have is a fairly unsortable pile of data, well... files, rather like those people who dump the icons for all their programs on their Windows desktop. It's meaningless and it complicates matters.
And yes, there is a very good chance that I am just babbling. 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy 19:06, 9 March 2011

Thousands of pics

Hello, the top thing still says thousands of pics will be killed on the 16th. I thought the consensus forming was that we'd do it in sections, with weeks in between, and maybe a better way to look at the pics. And the 1,000 that are listed on Special:Unusaed Files, why can't we still keep a thousand on there and take many of those off to make room for new ones. Maybe a couple hundred of those are still good, and hopefully we will still have a depository for unused images (I get lots of my pics from unused). Thanks. Aleister 4:06 11-3-'11

Socky is the consensus? Anyhow, Aleister, that wouldn't work... it'd take too long, and every day there are 20-50 new files uploaded, most of which don't get used, or the articles for which they are uploaded do not survive. No, it's pretty clear from here. We're all doomed. Doomed... DOOOMED! 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy 05:44, 11 March 2011
If I had my say, I'd do one small section, wait a week, and then do everything else. Measure twice, cut once. But... well... this project ain't my baby. Tinymasaru.gifpillow talk 06:37, March 11, 2011 (UTC)
Sounds exactly like what we did - Zombiebaron and I deleted a couple thousand before... then he got the master list from Wikia, told the community to save as many as they could in this week, at the end of which death and destruction ensue! That's what we did and what's happening. 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy 06:41, 11 March 2011
Well, Socky, me and probably others. And I was the one who suggested he get the master list, but I didn't expect a wholesale slaughter with almost no notice (like who is going to go through the entire list hitting on one item at a time to see what it is). I was just trying to make the project easier, not to unleash the hounds. And like I said, there is already a Special:Unused Files which contain 1,000 images, so at least those thousand should be saved for us to use. There seems to be something un-wiki-like about this decision. Aleister 22:56 11-3-'11
Aleister, stop fussing yourself; there'll be plenty left after. The master list is already outdated, what with deletions and new uploads, and what of all the red links? I suspect many of them do indeed exist, but under slightly differently parsed names... also, I just had a thought. I don't like it. I shall stab it. Graw! 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy 23:00, 11 March 2011
Fussin myself? First they came for the fussers, and I did not speak up. Then they came for the "Ah, man"-ers, and I did not speak up. Then they came for me. Please explain "there'll be plenty left after." It's my understanding that all of the unused will be huffed. Everything categorized, non-categorized, unused, all the 1000 on the unused pics page, etc, gone in an instant or lots on instantces. Do you mean new uploads? What's to stop someone from huffing those on a daily basis? Aleister 00:22 12-3-'11
Sorry, don't mind my wordage. This really does matter to you a fair bit... anyhow, what I mean is that everything on the page that the Wikia guy gave Zombiebaron will be huffed - and it's already out of date. Huffing the new uploads right away would be silly, though, as sometimes it takes folks a bit to actually put them to use, you know? Hmm... 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy 00:29, 12 March 2011

Please remove the block on the thunder bay page

Hello, I am writing because of a block on editing the Thunder Bay page: thunder bay. Several concerned citizens, community leaders and other interest parties have attempted to edit the content of this page recently because one of the sections is quite hateful and offensive. I can appreciate that someone who is not from this city would not realize how hateful the "entertainment" section on this page is but this is seriously hate speech, not comedy. As it is, this page details a very real and serious set of actions against specific groups in this community and encourages individuals to target a specified person--there is a long standing history in this community of treating sex workers, indigenous residents and those living on the streets as sub-human, attacking them in myriad ways causing serious bodily injury and, in some cases, death. I am new to using these wiki things and did not realize that one must replace deleted content with something else. Could you please remove this block so that we can clean it up and provide some genuinely humorous information about Thunder Bay? Please, I implore you, this is not comedy, it is a sick and hateful incitement to commit violence.

--Clark fitzgibbens 03:50, March 13, 2011 (UTC)

Oh, that? I haven't even read it. Doesn't really look like I'd want to, either. Anyhow, it's not so much a matter of removed content needs to be replaced as a matter of whether or not the overall thing is better afterwards. Blanking a page ain't better, and that seems to be the main tactic for some reason.
It's just semi-protected; unregistered folks kept messing with it, but if you really intend to give it an overhaul, just wait four days (to become autoconfirmed and thus able to edit semi-protected pages) and you'll be able to edit it yourself. You are also encouraged to make a copy in your userspace in the meantime and work on that. Good luck, I suppose, since if you can indeed make something better, it'd be nice. 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy 04:58, 13 March 2011

Your talk page is quite popular

So I'd thought I'd bring this here. The author of Malcolm in the Middle has a nasty habit of removing maintenance tags from his page (though strangely not from his other pages,) so I believe that a mercy move is in order. I don't think I'm supposed to do things like that though so I'll just dump it in your lap. Jackofspades (talk) 08:05, March 13, 2011 (UTC)

My lap feels dumped. ...oh, that? Again? *groans and ambles off* 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy 08:21, 13 March 2011
This user (Bhind45) also has a nasty habit of undoing comments on his talk page. The Chief Justice hasn't had a problem with this practice lately, but me, I know I have a history with this dude and I'd like to be able to read what it was without fishing through the history. Spıke Ѧ 10:21 13-Mar-11
Well, I understand your frustration, but folks can and do remove stuff from their own talkpages pretty regularly. They're special, or some such. Granted, looking to the histories of things often says more than what the things themselves contain, so it is there. Among other... interesting bits. 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy 10:36, 13 March 2011

First HappyMonkey winner

Maybe me? Somebody else wrote the original entry in the list of contests and named me the winner, and I've been called the winner on another page, so I guess perception is reality. From the judging of the contest I may have won, or tied with you, or neither (haven't really sat down with pen, paper, and supercomputer to figure it out). All I know is that I'm the only top page in the contest not to get featured because when I put the page up I never checked it again and some IP had vandalized it - vandalism which stayed almost the whole time it was on VFH (I was wondering why it was getting some weird criticism, but never checked the page! PWNED by an IP!) Aleister 13:16 13-3-'11

p.s. I just realized that maybe that IP's actions and my not checking the page cost me my 30th feature of MMX. I had to be satisfied with a measly 29. Damn the IP's eyes, and other parts.
Huh... and yeah, that was... silly. May have to renom that at some point, though. Perhaps when VFH recovers... 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy 23:02, 13 March 2011

Sorry, mon, but why a giant banner now, after it's all over? I can add a note to the sitenotice, or Zombiebaron can or some such, but I'd really prefer we keep the giant banners in reserve until there's actually another reason to pull them out. 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy 01:45, 15 March 2011
The whole point is to show the articles that are written off to people. The final results are done and the articles are ready to be read as a complete competition. Its the only time I really ever wanted the banner there. --ShabiDOO 01:48, March 15, 2011 (UTC)

This is not a mere breast infatuation, or I'd stand in front of him and shout out, "Arrest me first!" This is asking an Admin to get her tits out. Lyrithya is entitled to ban him--and, given his limited history, which I think includes keeping a private copy of an equally off-color article that the Chief huffed, we all might benefit from the move. Spıke Ѧ 01:11 15-Mar-11
Spamming talkpages with stupid, creating crap and then immediately recreating it when it is deleted, sockpuppetry, and... er... let's call the last bit harassment, and on top of that it didn't do anything useful, banning it is certainly not something I'm inclined to lose sleep over. 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy 01:55, 15 March 2011

Telephone exchanges

SETI created a system that was designed to go through extraordinary multitudes of waves and to pick out certain wavelengths patterns. This was ideally to be used to try and find intelligent life. This was then sold on to ASIO (Australian Spying Is Outdated). There is no use for this on Earth with the exception of tapping into every telephone conversation simultaneously to pick out certain words or phrases that may be said as part of a conversation. To this end, it is imperative at every opportunity to say the words "Kill the President" when on a phone call. I would suggest though that you avoid doing this when talking to older uncles and aunts who are not completely compost mentis, as they get rather concerned. Oh, and I just thought I'd drop by and say hello. Hello. Pup 11:30 15 Mar '11

No need, if you're using the file it with that. The template uses both a file link and a direct link, so it's fine. Things that don't wind up on the unnews pages and whatnot the normal ways, those you want to be more careful with. 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy 12:40, 16 March 2011
Also, that wouldn't do it, anyhow. I explained in an edit summary. Not sure why I thought that was a good place to do it, but that's another matter. 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy 12:43, 16 March 2011

I don't see why that wouldn't have worked to enroll the .mp3 file in the category. Separately, though, all these .mp3 files are linked to on one of my UnNews contributions pages in userspace. Spıke Ѧ 12:47 16-Mar-11

The template goes on the article, it puts the article in the category... not what we're after, that. And that's a different kind of link. Files have... er... three kinds of links, I guess. Or maybe four... file links, page links, url links, and... I dunno. I think they're all on that template, actually, but the point is, only file links keep the thing from being labelled as unused. Does that make any sense to you? Because it doesn't to me. 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy 12:53, 16 March 2011

No, it doesn't. I used an argument with a variable so as not to put the UnNews in the category but to put the media file in it. Spıke Ѧ 13:17 16-Mar-11

The argument put the article in the category and not the template, mon. The file's just a file that happens to be quasi-involved. 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy 17:16, 16 March 2011

Could you please be a dear and look at the files you delete, next time? File:GrueatSpikeshouse.jpg was in an article when you deleted it. It's not my fault that the guy who putted it in the article forgot to take it off the list, so could you please bring the file back? --~ MimoMimomaxusMaxus 13:04, March 16, 2011 (UTC)

That's no grue, that's Rover! we've had him for years, must have got off his leash. Separately, there is another unhappy customer on the Chief's talk page. Spıke Ѧ 13:21 16-Mar-11
The guy who put (irregular past tense of put) it in the article would be me. I was vaguely aware that Lyrithya was deleting stuff but I didn't know about a big list. In retrospect it has been a better use of time to pursue the handful of cases where we screwed up than scan a big list. Spıke Ѧ 23:41 16-Mar-11

Since you're an admin now (kinda) can you un-huff my images? Stupid Zombiebaron!

Looks like Socky did them, but if you don't put them on a page or some such, they'll probably just get deleted again, love. Please do. Some of those are... particularly nice. *shifty eyes* 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy 17:25, 16 March 2011

"List aren't invariably bad"

You're completely right. However, I tend to exaggerate things that shouldn't be common practice, especially with new people. I'd rather be the bastard that was wrong and made the author write a good article than the hand-holder who was technically right but didn't make the author feel their work needed to be improved. (Although I occasionally turn into a fanboy.) Jackofspades (talk) 19:06, March 16, 2011 (UTC)

So you've never pointed anyone in the direction of a good list and compared it to their pitiful attempts as part of a greater endeavour to thoroughly crush their spirit? For shame, man!
But seriously, I wish certain... other people would do that. What you do, I mean. I also wish said certain people would read HTBFANJS before doing reviews. Argh... *mumbles incoherently* 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy 19:11, 16 March 2011
Not entirely sure what it is I do, but thanks. HTBFANJS is one of the most inspiring things I've ever read (#1 on the internet for sure) and if/when I leave this site I will always have my mental copy of HTBFANJS with me at all times. Jackofspades (talk) 22:04, March 16, 2011 (UTC)
The way I frame it for new users (such as Dave0311 early this morning) is to say that adding a list to an article will ruin the n00bie's promising life by consigning him to Undo every additional item added by I.P.Anon. It is not worth the few extra minutes it takes to tie together those list item into a paragraph of ideas that relate to one another. Spıke Ѧ 23:36 16-Mar-11
You make it sound like you're not trying to torment them, though. What's with that? 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy 00:06, 17 March 2011
You misunderstand me; I am totally about tormenting Uncyclopedians. Spıke Ѧ 00:12 17-Mar-11
Then why do you say things like that? How could you? 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy 00:13, 17 March 2011
PS: the Keep on iGovernment is correct based on the 3-3 vote, but I wish you would let it linger on VFD for a while after the decision either way, as notification, rather than move it immediately to the archive. Spıke Ѧ 00:22 17-Mar-11
Maybe I should just leave the closing of things to other people. People who have nothing better to do. People who are admins. 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy 00:46, 17 March 2011
It pains me to remind you that, for fifteen more days--nah, forget it. Spıke Ѧ 00:53 17-Mar-11
*shifty eyes* 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy 01:27, 17 March 2011
And don't leave nothing to other people; just do it a little slower, so we can see what you're doing without digging through the archive. Also, thanks for mercy-moving the Jan Brewer UnNews tonight. Spıke Ѧ 01:36 17-Mar-11
Mmm, I can try, but... well, sure. Unless I forget. But it really would be easier to just leave it to all those overeager temps, especially if doing it separately, whereas lumping with the poopsmithing is one fell swoop, so to speak. 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy 01:45, 17 March 2011

Did you and Zombiebaron actually think this was a good idea? It was reckless and pointless. MegaPleb Dexter111344 Complain here 01:23, March 17, 2011 (UTC)
Was it? How so? 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy 01:27, 17 March 2011
To put it poetically: You tossed the baby out with the placenta. To put it in a way that has actual meaning: Wikia's list was full of crap and you ended up deleting several images that have been in use for several months and others that were in use prior to vandals removing them from articles while leaving a large number of actual unused images. MegaPleb Dexter111344 Complain here 01:32, March 17, 2011 (UTC)
Yes... but that's Wikia's fault. As for vandal removals, if someone reverts the vandals and finds that, they just have to get someone to undelete it. No biggy. As for the large number of actual unused images, it's not nearly so large as what was there. It ain't. 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy 01:40, 17 March 2011
Personally I think it was very pointy. Having said that there are a couple of images I was using - and one I uploaded but hadn't gotten around to using yet - that seem to gave gone bye bye, but I'll look into what's gone and restore the ones needed. Two issues I think I've come across - if the image was part of a <choose> or <select> then I don't think it was shown as an image being used. Second issue is that there are some images that are linked by full URL that also wouldn't have shown. Third issue, which I just remembered, is that if the images were part of the history of an article they are technically unused - but in cases like The truth about coca cola and Disassociative Identity Disorder the images in history are part of the article. I'm not sure how many images of this ilk have gone the way of the dodo, but I dare say that there are a few of them. I noticed at least 4 images when going through my emails that I know were used in one of the above instances. Pup 01:35 17 Mar '11
Well, those are another matter entirely - what do you people expect, not putting a {{notorphan}} on them? Yeesh. 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy 01:40, 17 March 2011
Oh, yeah, we all know to use some obscure code about orphans. The damage seems to be widespread and growing, and in the midst of this fiasco I cry tears for my fellow images. Then again, here was the biggest laugh of the day: "Lyrithya (Talk | contribs) huffed "Felix Shen" (content before blanking was: "#REDIRECT Obesity")" Aleister 3:53 17-3-'11
I don't get it. 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy 03:57, 17 March 2011
Just that it was very creative cyber-bullying of the guy to redirect his victim's name to obesity, that was funny, and then the matter-of-fact way the edit summary came out. In combination the two things broke me up. Kind of like this: hahahahahahah hee heeheehee haahaha huh? Aleister 4:11 17-3-'11
Oh. 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy 04:36, 17 March 2011

UnNews:Man steals free samples

Drunken bum jimmies his way into Costco, steals free samples, is acquitted as he "paid their full price." Anything remarkable here? Anything funny? Worth letting it sit there? Spıke Ѧ 22:41 17-Mar-11

Personally, answering as though you asked me, I think it's slightly amusing and worth keeping. The idea of whether free things have value is not entirely without satiric merit... I mean, it's not the best UnNews I've ever seen, but it's certainly not the worst. Tinymasaru.gifpillow talk 22:57, March 17, 2011 (UTC)

I appreciate your input. Spıke Ѧ 23:12 17-Mar-11

I'll basically agree, except I think it's disappointing as hell and in dire need of a proofread. But it has a notion and isn't too horrible. Just a massive disappointment. *bursts into tears* 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy 23:20, 17 March 2011

Thanks to you too. As I mention to Funnybony, I was disappointed by everything on UnNews today--especially his, as he's been around long enough to know better; finally rewrote his lead to have something to feature. Spıke Ѧ 23:27 17-Mar-11

Isn't everything being unremarkable in a day inherently remarkable in of itself? 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy 23:35, 17 March 2011

UnNews:My bracket is busted

Gets worse; Sonic80 files pure schmaltz about getting ridiculed for, and losing, a sports bet; and some guy called Spike finally sees an absurd news story--the US's belated decision to get involved in Libya--and writes a report that veers into Advocacy. Spıke Ѧ 01:10 18-Mar-11

Why did I just read that? Why?! And I'm not reading this Spike fellow's one. I'm not. Too much already. Too much! *flails and runs away* 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy 01:19, 18 March 2011
But seriously, Spike's isn't so bad. Has a notion, is applicable... isn't it? Now I'm almost curious. 1234 ~ 16px-Pointy 08:43, 18 March 2011
