edit Welcome to Uncyclopedia

Justinian04

Christmas welcome.

Hello, KickAssAndGiggle, and welcome to Uncyclopedia. This is a wiki (a collection of pages anyone can edit). Words in blue are "links" and can be clicked to take you to another page. This wiki is for comedy. It pretends it's Wikipedia, but we make people laugh, not bore them. If you aren't interested in a fake encyclopedia but in writing fake news stories, we have UnNews, and there are other projects for scripts, lyrics, how-to guides, and so on.

You can create your own article. For starters, create it under your own name; for example, User:KickAssAndGiggle/Bedbug. (The red instead of blue is a link to a page that doesn't yet exist.) We have a list of articles that need to be created. You can help without writing articles; just read articles and, if you see an improvement in writing or in comedy, jump in and edit it. In fact, you can help without writing at all, such as organizing, watching for vandals, or even greeting other new users.

To write articles, you need a sense of humor and an ability to write good English. We all have strengths and weaknesses and you can get help in any area. But everyone needs an ability to work with other people. Be polite, positive, and helpful toward others, and assume others are doing the same toward you. Here are some pages that might help:

For personal help
  • The administrators are willing to help you, and several Uncyclopedians are willing to adopt you.
  • I will watch this page for a while and will know if you edit it. Afterward, you can contact me on my own talk page.
  • If you've written an article, we have a Proofreading service where someone will correct your mistakes, and a review process where an experienced Uncyclopedian will read your article and suggest improvements.
How to post to talk pages

Please follow these general rules:

  • Add comments at the end of a talk page so people notice them.
  • Start your paragraphs with one or more : characters to indent them and set them off from other people's posts.
  • At the end, type ~~~~ (four tildes), which gets replaced by your user name and the current date and time.
  • Don't delete anyone's messages. In case of any controversy, we depend on an accurate record of what was written. You may disavow your remarks by striking them through like this.

I hope you enjoy it here and write a lot of funny stuff! --LaurelsRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 09:57, December 12, 2013 (UTC)

edit Bernie Madoff

A pretty good start for your first article. Remember to add categories at the end. I have added a couple by way of an example. --LaurelsRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 09:58, December 12, 2013 (UTC)

Hello and welcome! This is an impressive first contribution and I gave it only a very light once-over. It coud use more links; I added one, as we have a Stockbroker article. It ought to use American spelling when writing about an American crook, though I only found one place to fix, plus the birthdate. Also, don't press Enter three times in a row (double-space between paragraphs); this gives it excessive white space (compared to other Uncyclopedia articles).
If you get stuck, the Wikipedia article is always a good resource; writing humor having to do with a Ponzi scheme is more specific and better than writing generic humor having to do with being in prison. (In addition, anal rape as a theme is all worn out — see our guide to writing comedy at How To Be Funny And Not Just Stupid.)
I do not like your Section 5 (the list of groups arguing for Madoff's release) because I don't like lists. (We explain why in the same Guide.) The "morons" you cite on Romartus's talk page come here, too, overnight, and having your article end with a disconnected list will induce them to add more "groups" to it forever. Glad to welcome you to VFD. Thanks for your vote, which led to the page's immediate deletion despite one Symbol keep vote Keep vote based on historic heritage. Your comment on being "a bit of a newbie" is confirmed by the statement that the page in question was unusually bad; this can only mean you haven't read the other cruft nominated. edit Florence Nightingale

A thorough trashing of a Great British Icon! I added a couple of extras to it but I like her as the watch kleptomaniac.--LaurelsRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 08:16, February 10, 2014 (UTC)

Thank you. :) And thanks for fixing up the Categories for me (I was falling asleep at the keyboard when tweaking it!) KickAssAndGiggle (talk) 11:42, February 10, 2014 (UTC)
Actually it is a pretty funny story without being too sweary or obvious in my view. --LaurelsRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 13:53, February 10, 2014 (UTC)
On a point of history, wrist watches date from the First World War apparently. Easier to use when going over the top instead of taking out a pocket watch and checking the time that way.--LaurelsRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 09:12, February 12, 2014 (UTC)
Or lining up a sundial... -- Sir Mhaille Icons-flag-gb (talk to me)
I'll admit, I didn't consider the historical accuracy, but some soldiers would have had pocket watches. Only issue may be the watch picture, which contains all sorts of watches, but I don't think most people will be as clued up as Romartus. edit Monty Python's Flying Circus on VFD

Thank you for your vote, which sounds like the start of a good collaboration between you and Romartus! Spıke ¬ 01:12 14-Feb-14

Surely the correct treatment of the subject is to take "Flying Circus" quite literally... KickAssAndGiggle (talk) 01:20, February 14, 2014 (UTC)
I had some thoughts about the article. It could be written in the style of an episode of the show where they sometimes ran the end credits at the end of the show or in the middle. Alternatively, treat it like a serious indictment of the British class system (Upper Class Twit of the Year) but spoilt by silly 'funny stuff'. Or a show in honour of Montgomery Python, leader of the Allied biplane force with Private Snoopy as an American hound volunteer up against the Red Baron. --LaurelsRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 12:19, February 14, 2014 (UTC)
Could also ask our premier (and premiere) writer, Sog1970 if he wants to pitch in too. --LaurelsRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 12:20, February 14, 2014 (UTC)
I'd be delighted, the more the merrier! I will look to begin some drafts of bits next week, and will post in my own namespace. KickAssAndGiggle (talk) 22:52, February 14, 2014 (UTC)

edit So you are a poet

Hi, KickAssAndGiggle! I've never officially said hi to you here, so I am doing this right now. Your poem was very funny, even though I am not a fan of such type of jokes, but I felt sorry for the poem when the fourth stanza came. Is there really no way not to use such a - let's say - direct reference? Anton (talk) Uncyclopedia United 16:51, February 14, 2014 (UTC)

Hi Anton. :-) I wrote that poem years ago, as a laugh...and I consider it my finest "short" work. Regrettably, I wouldn't be prepared to make any changes to the poem (because it is meant to be pure filth, being 'male-friendly' and all, and I personally feel the "hunt" rhyme is the best single part), and would be compelled to revert any changes. However, if its presence on the site "as-is" proves undesirable, I will happily remove it. Let me know if you + admins prefer that. KickAssAndGiggle (talk) 22:38, February 14, 2014 (UTC)
I enjoyed it — regretting only that it didn't end with a particularly funny turn-of-phrase. Now, we are here to amuse, not to shock — despite a few notorious fallen-away users who took the opposite tack and left us with a lot of Feces Memes we are slowly deleting at VFD despite resistance. The "C-word" spoils it for a certain clientele (think Central U.S., the people whom Brits never meet), and I agree with Anton that the explicitness doesn't help. If this page is really here because it is such a personal meme that you would not edit it nor permit collaboration, then it does not belong in mainspace on a wiki but perhaps on your user page. If it remains in one of the project areas, you ought to add illustrations. Spıke ¬ 23:03 14-Feb-14
That is totally fine, I posted it only because I noticed that a new poem hadn't been added to that part of the site for ages (it's garnered 200K hits on another site over 8 years so it hardly needs further exposure...and you are right that the last stanza is its weakness, thanks for reminding me!). I, probably wrongly, assumed that the poetry site was less "collaborative" than the uncyclopedia main. I will remove it. KickAssAndGiggle (talk) 23:09, February 14, 2014 (UTC)
No indeed. Everything on this wiki is on a wiki, "that anyone can edit." Spıke ¬ 23:11 14-Feb-14
Moved to user space, link on main poem page removed. Apologies, I will only post new material from this point. KickAssAndGiggle (talk) 23:17, February 14, 2014 (UTC)
My intention was not to make your poem removed!!! Anton (talk) Uncyclopedia United 11:00, February 15, 2014 (UTC)
Spike made it plain that by having it on the poetry wiki, it was open for editing (a poetry wiki does seem slightly odd as a concept in my head but it makes it clear that it is one). I wouldn't accept *any* editing to it whatsoever (it's a mature poem, it wasn't written bespoke for here), so it is not your comment, it is me being foolish: if it was JUST the language, I'd have argued the point vehemently (because the word in question appears on other pages here), but what if I got myself banned or something? Then I couldn't revert the changes!!! I posted on a whim, because nobody had done a new poem for a while...overall, it was a mistake. So, really, you've done me a favour: I am happy to have my uncyclopedia articles chopped and changed but not my "creative" older work. (It doesn't need the few extra hits it would get, it's on BoredAtWork.com, which is where it gets its views). So no worries, and no hard feelings whatsoever. KickAssAndGiggle (talk) 14:10, February 15, 2014 (UTC)
I don't think any of us would ban you for the mere use of the word "cunt" (though its use elsewhere doesn't prove that it's the best choice here). However, Anton199 might have devised a more genteel wording, and any resulting drama could lead to bans. I objected last year when a fallen-away Uncyclopedian included the word in an article title and advertised it by title on our main page. Agreed, better off in userspace if you regard it as your property.
By the way, all submissions here are made under CC-BY-3.0 and anyone who acknowledges your authorship can take and reuse them, perhaps with editing that you would not approve of. Though this is a risk publishing stuff anywhere on the web, if your writing enjoys greater "protection" at its other home than here, I will delete our copy on your request. Spıke ¬ 15:05 15-Feb-14
If it's not much hassle, delete it. Thank you very much. KickAssAndGiggle (talk) 19:23, February 15, 2014 (UTC)
Out of interest KickAss, how did you come across this site? --LaurelsRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 20:53, February 15, 2014 (UTC)
I've known of its existence for years, not able to accurately recollect. I joined up because my last "stomping ground" (Ubersite) unfortunately failed to implement adequate quality control and administration. I'll be frank: Spike's "style" of administration (which I will summarise as "No Nonsense" and intend as a big compliment) is exactly what I am looking for. KickAssAndGiggle (talk) 21:00, February 15, 2014 (UTC)

edit 'I am not "anti list" myself'

Regarding your comment at VFD (though you found the list in question worthy of deletion): Do you think our recommendation in Section 7 of How To Be Funny And Not Just Stupid needs revision? How about our UN:LIST? Spıke ¬ 17:37 16-Feb-14

For me, the acid-test for any online article is mainly "Is it funny, clever or interesting?" If it can manage to be one of the three, I'll be inclined to say Keep, no matter how it is written (but I have high standards, so it needs to be GENUINELY one of the three, close-but-no-cigar won't cut it). If a list can successfully meet one criteria, why not? But not sure how well that translates into a Guideline: surely most people think their writing succeeds...but many are wrong. edit Hello there!

Not sure why I haven't spoken to you yet. Frightfully rude of me. Nice to meet you, the name's ScottPat (as my sig denotes). I wouldn't want to be one to start a first meeting with a complaint however reading through your talk page I notice that you said that the poem you had put on this site, which eventually was removed, had gained 200K hits on another site (that is how I interpreted it). Just to tell you we only really accept original humour on this site so if you wouldn't mind refraining from copying stuff off another site and re-adding it here. I'm sure Spike can explain it better than I can but it could be seen as either unoriginal humour or marketing of another site (I know that wasn't your intention). Anyway have a jolly good time here won't you! Sir ScottPat (converse) White Ensign Scotland Flag 1 Compassrose VFH UnS NotM WotM WotY 09:13, February 19, 2014 (UTC)

The very reason it was removed! I intend to follow this advice. I posted the poem on a whim, while under the influence of alcohol...evil stuff! ;-) KickAssAndGiggle (talk) 09:44, February 19, 2014 (UTC)
Whoops I thought you removed it because it was claimed to be bad humour. Sir ScottPat (converse) White Ensign Scotland Flag 1 Compassrose VFH UnS NotM WotM WotY 09:56, February 19, 2014 (UTC)
No, it's hilarious! :-D But I didn't want it edited (so don't post it on a wiki then, Mr Giggle!) KickAssAndGiggle (talk) 10:05, February 19, 2014 (UTC)
