Welcome!

Hello, Kevillips, and welcome to Uncylopedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. If not, the door's right over there... no, a little more to your left... yeah. Anyway, here are a few good links for people like you:

If you read anything at all, make it the above three links. If you want to find out more about Uncyclopedia or need more help with something, try these:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being an Uncylopedian! Please --K evilLips MUN,CM,NS,3of7 00:46, April 26, 2011 (UTC) on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~) or use the "sign" button ( Button sig ) above the edit box. This will automatically produce your name and the date.

At Uncylopedia, writing articles is not a requirement, but it certainly is a fun and easy way to express your creativity. To write an article, it's recommended that you start it in your userspace (for example, User:Kevillips/Article about stuff) so you can edit it at your leisure. If you decide to create it in the cold world of mainspace, make sure it is in accordance with the policies laid out above, and if you're not done put the "Work-In-Progress" template - construction - onto it as well.

If the current colonization doesn't suit your fancy, then browse our rewrite and writer's block categories. We have lots of articles just sitting around for someone to improve, so don't be afraid - dive right in!

Uncle Remus

It might be better to keep your LIVE! With Uncle Remus spin-offs all listed within one article, especially if you plan on making more. In their present state, they're almost stubs. -- T. (talk) 13:29, 11 Dec 2005 (UTC)

Thanks
thanks for the advice, I folded them together, and expanded my original. I am very much a tweaker when it comes to my stories. I'll work to have something more substantial before I big a "new" article.

-- Kevillips 00:11, 12 Dec 2005 (UTC)

No problem. Feel free to make yourself subpages underneath your user page if you want a place to work on stuff until it's ready to post as a full article. Many users make one called /clipboard, /test, or /sandbox (or even have several work pages going at once). -- T. (talk) 02:16, 12 Dec 2005 (UTC)
To reflect the fact that the article now includes different incarnations of the show, I retitled it (moved the page to) LIVE! with Uncle Remus. -- T. (talk) 02:27, 12 Dec 2005 (UTC)

UnNews

Hello. I moved your news stories to UnNews:New Orleans to Reopen Airport January 1 and UnNews:Bingo Follows CSI for Attendence Bonanza (prefixing UnNews articles with "UnNews:" is standard procedure, I believe, though it seems not many people follow it) and changed the link on your bio page to point to the right page. Cheerio --—rc (t) 23:03, 26 Dec 2005 (UTC)

Also, you can put your articles in the top spots at UnNews by following these instructions. You might also want to put a blurb on Template:Recentnews to get some more traffic. --—rc (t) 23:11, 26 Dec 2005 (UTC)

My Username populating robots

To make my spork work within the confines of Wikipedia, I created a forward within wikipedia which when entering my username (here not there) it forwards to the real Duke of Brabant page. I never expected it to stick, but I suppose it is so innocuous that no one cares. But the dig dug spambot robots of the internet that mine wikipedia's info has no idea why its there, so now my Uncy. userid shows up in online dictionaries as a synonym of "duke of Brabant" ROFLMAO XYZ LMNOP

Back again

I wonder if I can maintain a presence here and on the multitude of other sites I frequent, and still make a living? Is there a way to edit here via mobile web? that is how I do a lot of my face book notes and stuff. tres kewl.----K3vin-Yak-Bak MUN,CM,NS 23:16, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

UnNews:Customs agreement leads to mini big bang

Clever article! I'll see if there's room to feature it on the Front Page. Welcome to the Service--or, from the look of it, welcome back! Though you seem to know your way around, we now have a letter from the Chief, for whom I am standing in; also a full-blown Style Guide. Some typographical policies are quite different from when you would have last contributed, though your current article looks fine. Hope to see your work again soon! Spıke ¬ 00:03 11-Nov-10

VFD

If you want to save your articles then use all that time and energy you're using to write those 1000 character+ responses on VFD to improve your articles. Jackofspades (talk) 21:33, April 3, 2011 (UTC)

Your point is well made. I agree. Rest assured, I have enough time and energy to do both. While I am writing this, I am also soaking my hand in Palmolive dish detergent.
Should I have any faith that it would stall the process? I have been through the delete process on wikimedia commons, and found once started, it does not matter what goes on subsequent. (in my case, I even contacted potential copyright owners of the potential violation)
If I can be assured that my misdirected energy will not be for naught, then I will improve the articles. What I am trying to learn is, the time frame. Do I have a day, a week, a month? Will it be tainted due to its vfd status that people will judge changes by a harsher microscope?
1000 character plus responses LOL. You should see some of my responses to notability challenges on Wikipedia. 27 point bibliographies as references, all duly referenced. Hehe. This is sunday, a day of rest  :-) Thank you for your interest. I guess worst comes to worst, I'll improve the pages anyway, and or start new ones in my sandbox to start.

--K3vin-Yak-Bak MUN,CM,NS 21:43, April 3, 2011 (UTC)

There isn't a set time frame for VFD. Votes last a minimum of 24 hours, but the max time depends on who closes the nomination. Even if your articles do get deleted you can request an admin to have them restored to your userspace to work on them. Really, no matter what happens working on them will make them better eventually, and people do change their votes on VFD to reflect what the article's current "keepablitly" is. Jackofspades (talk) 21:48, April 3, 2011 (UTC)

I wanted to thank you for helping improve the Lupus page with more jokes (as suggested by Matt Snow). I am presently trying to get at least another section added to help it from the VFD bin. --Stilicho 22:58, June 7, 2011 (UTC)

I think you and Matt Snow helped save the Lupus article from deletion. I have seen shorter articles that don't have a construction tags (and ones that are IMHO less funny). The organisation you did is fantastic. I have kept that as a 'follow' so I know what to do if I build a page from scratch like that again. I redid the notable victims and I think it works a lot better. Feel free to do more with it but I think it works already as both a reference and a mildly amusing joke. --Stilicho 22:25, June 8, 2011 (UTC)

RE: romanovs

Thanks for dropping in...added the picture really cool pic...and sorry mate but i have no idea about any Rasputin...but if you want to add that it is fine with me. All i knew was that the last Romanovs were murdered, everything else came from that boring site Wikipedia. things got way more confusing than i thought they would...--Purple&Pink 14:35, April 8, 2011 (UTC)

I will add some stuff. Look up the disco hit Rasputin by Boney M, it could be funny to essentially spork the words of that song. But I will try and get something down for ya.
K3vin-Yak-Bak MUN,CM,NS 14:40, April 8, 2011 (UTC)
Hey, that might be a cool idea...make it less of an essay no? lol...i understand his point but i find him is so abrasive...Purple&Pink I didn't do it!
I do not respond to criticism well. Unless I respect the reviewer. Generally speaking, I have a reason for almost everything I put down. Some is random for random's sake, some for inside jokes for the educated reader. But I am learning. Most people that write, do not like to be edited. That said. Often we can take things meant as factual, as hurtful. For example, saying someone had a beer gut is not necessarily putting someone down for having a beer gut. But if the beer gutted is sensitive about his beer gut, he will take it worse. Yes I have a beer gut LOL. Some abrasive people are so without trying. Some try because it makes them feel better about themselves. I have ruffled some feathers when I have hit enter, before realizing, there is no taking it back on a wiki. But in the case of your romanov article reading like an essay, is it does. Which is not necessarily a problem. The reason it comes off as an essay to me is, you are basically telling us what you learned about the Romanovs. Enclylopedias are generally written by authorities. Those Brittanica guys knew their stuff. Even when they didn't LOL. Take a look at some old brittanica articles on phrenology for Phrenology (un wp g gun gwp | eb 1911 co gct sw yt) it is a riot. There are two classic methods for writing a parody on a wikipedia article for uncyclopedia. Pretend you are from mars and describe it in terms that are out of context. Get key factual information completely opposite of reality. I tend to blend this, and mix in something random. My soon to be article on King of the Hill, outlines the plot of Sanford and Son. I've exaggerated the use of "sug" by one of the characters such that all the neighbors are named Sug. I like the "this is what I have learned about the romanovs" essay style. I am trying to figure out a way to make it encyclopedic. Your use of dude and like, comes off very casual, like a hippy wrote it, which contrasts nicely with the very formal material. But as I said in one of my first messages, we all write differently. His point is he would write it different. So would I. But this is a work started by you, so I am trying to stay within your style, and add funny stuff to it and maybe change around the formatting to make it more encyclopedic. Do you mind telling me your age? your writing style is very youthfull, which can be why we see it as essay like. I have been writing real wikipedia articles for a few years now, so my Uncyclopedia articles come off as parodys of that style. feel free to undo anything I have done. I have no ownership whatsover on any of my additions. Its your article. I am just demonstrating my style of humor. K3vin-Yak-Bak MUN,CM,NS 20:45, April 8, 2011 (UTC)
Hey, beer gut, i really don't mind advice, i just had to take a day to cool off. thankfully i had only spent an hour at most on it the first time...so yea, wuld u tell me how old u were?...anywho, i don't mind people messing with the article...i didn't even get really bothered when it was ICUed, but maybe he had been a good buffer, and after him pissing me off the little sticker was nothing? I don't know...Purple&Pink I didn't do it!
I am 47 , the reason I ask your age, is, I believe it to be young but I am afraid if you are actually old you may be offended by my assumption that you are young. I don't mean old is better than young or young is better than old and in no way am I equating young with immature, remember I have a beer gut. LOL K3vin-Yak-Bak MUN,CM,NS 20:59, April 8, 2011 (UTC)
What the !@#$? wow i wasn't getting defensive, really...but i'm sixteen...so yea, i is pretty old now-a-days...lol...seeing if my sig works...screwed up again Lyrithya keeps on going in and deleting some of my code because it is messed up...was left instructions this time...should work now...Purple&Pink I didn't do it!
crap still a piece of junk...gonna have to try agin...Purple&Pink I didn't do it!

UnNews:FBI closes in on PC zombie gang

I renamed this to eliminate the excess capital letters and did a heavy copy edit. To answer the talk page, no, you don't have to create a summary; that's generally something I do if I were going to do a graphic for it on the Front Page. The problem here is that, although I can see the clever misreading of the Source once I read the Source, it is more baffling than funny when standing on its own. Spıke ¬ 03:03 15-Apr-11

It is what it is. I saw it, I wrote it I did what I did. What you do is what you do. I will continue to try and fit what I do, within what is you want, but will not get bent out of shape if it does not fulfill a spot. I honestly just do what comes naturally. If it is too bizarre, then so am I. ----K evilLips MUN,CM,NS,3of7 03:19, April 15, 2011 (UTC)

It does not have to be what it is, and I will now do what I do. All it needed was for the intro to explain enough of your Source to show what you were about to do--blur zombie PC with PC zombie. I took the liberty of adding a last paragraph on the week's most un-PC newsmaker. If you are not satisfied, you may revert it. Spıke ¬ 12:25, 12:35 15-Apr-11

You rock. Collaboration is the best part of wiki. I may have got there in a few weeks, but by then it would have been UnOlds. Thanks for your input. ----K evilLips MUN,CM,NS,3of7 13:56, April 15, 2011 (UTC)

This is a non-Fictional article? Maybe, but since it was fair enough for me to show Lollipop that example of how I've been honing my comedy skills all these millenia, then I knew It would be fair enough to show to you.

Serenity (film)

Thank you for your opinion on my choice of phrasings. But it ought not be typed into the text of the article, nor especially into a new section entitled "AddenDUMB," a title that breaks the encyclopedia canon for virtually no benefit except to pat yourself on the back. The use of African American was to hump another of my articles; I'll change this link to appear as "blacks" and, with regrets, will revert you. Spıke ¬ 01:58 24-Apr-11

My edit was not an opinion on your use of phrasing, but a correction to a collaboratively edited wiki project that seemed awkward at best and not funny at worst. That you wrote it, was of no consideration, just as any wiki edits are never personal. I did see the conversation between you and slyfox, but thought with my quick read it was his not yours, which was still not the point.
I wasn't sure the best way to address the issue. I could not tell if AA was used ironically or politically correctly, it just read incorrect and did not fit any known humor style but irony. In any case no intentional swipe at you, as I think many readers would have thought the same thing. African Americans seems funnier, while Blacks not quite so much. In weird Serenity serendipity, that movie is in my drive, currently. Which is probably why I noticed it at all.
The choice to break down the 4th wall, and address the incongruousness of the term in reference to the future in space was clearly non-encyclopedic and as such, put as an end note. The choice of addenDUMB was a throw at mentioning it at all, in a self deprecating way. Had I adjusted the term with that as an edit summary, it would have been personal, as was presented, there was not back room animosity, just conflicting humor.
--K evilLips MUN,CM,NS,3of7 02:19, April 24, 2011 (UTC)

Oh, nothing personal taken. It's just that, in an article with a purpose, which this one is, an awkward turn of phrase is better remedied by correcting the phrasing than by hyping the awkwardness. Spıke ¬ 14:37 24-Apr-11

Gotcha, it was important to me to convey I was not trying to hurt the original editors feelings, just poke fun at how often that happens. There is a scene in Venture Bros, where a "Blacula" hunter goes on and on how there are no African American Vampires in England, after being corrected on the term Blacula. I reside in an area where the term African-American is not universally accepted by that population to describe themselves. --K evilLips MUN,CM,NS,3of7 14:43, April 24, 2011 (UTC)

Comedy Portal

Hey Kevillips, I think that's great what you did with the list, but I can't find the blue links tha would need reviewing since you made the change :S. Do you still have it? I think your idea of reviewing the articles and making small edits and/or rewriting a lot is great. About the Dave Chappelle and George Carlin articles I added, I think these are 2 eminent comedians that would need quality articles, and I am ready to sacrifice my poor intellect to rewrite them. Answer me for that list or Guantanamo awaits you! (Opens a beer to calm down) Snowflake mini Mattsnow 01:18, June 4, 2011 (UTC)

It seems to work like a snowball. That is great to work in coop. No personal "glory" (as you discussed on Lyrithya's page awhilhttp://uncyclopedia.wikia.com/index.php?title=User:Kevillips/Portal:Comedy/Shortlist&oldid=5150283e ago), no VFH shit, just helping the site as a whole. I'm all in. (Poker face) Snowflake mini Mattsnow 02:27, June 4, 2011 (UTC) ps: don't forget about the blue list. It was helpful to review articles (quickly, unlike Pee Review)
I tend to leave criticism about existing content to others, as my threshold for acceptability is much lower than for others. Instead of the lens: "is this how I would have done it", I use "Do I understand why they did it this way?". Very often, when I "rewrite things" I really just reformat them. --K evillips эвилипс MUN,CM,NS,3of7 02:36, June 4, 2011 (UTC)

Politicians

Acchhhh, please stop, or at least go back and add back Category:Politicians to all of them. It's OK to have multiple categories on each article, and I guess I for three take the purpose of categories seriously, that it's a one-stop repository of our pages. Removing names just to put them in other categories takes away content, but adding categories without removing other categories adds content. Mn-z has a habit of just having articles in one category and not multiples, which tends, imnho opinion, to dilute the value of each category. Please don't be another!!! Viva la category!!! Aleister 10:12 4-6-'11

I was following the directions at the top of the politicians category, I am actually subcategorizing. A bloated 2 page category suffers. But I will stop, because I want you to have a good day. --K evillips эвилипс MUN,CM,NS,3of7 10:14, June 4, 2011 (UTC)
It's one of those wiki things, where anyone can add a sentence and change an entire policy, and then go out for a walk. I don't mean stop the categorizing, viva etc., but the removal of the names from one category only to go into a sub-category. We can break things down so much here that we will get to "Left-handed batfuck insane Spanish politicians who love their mothers" and "Left-handed batfuck insane Spanish politicans who love their step-mothers" and nobody will take the time to look for anything, and so lose the appeal of categories. The reason I do category stuff is that I have high hopes that someday Uncyclopedia will actually be recognized for it's quality, and will be seen as an important comedic website in the actual world, and when that day occurs we will have handy-dandy places to find articles. If we have 500 politicians listed, well, they are at least alphabatized for easy reference. That's my thoughts on this anyway, as batfuck insane as they are. Thanks for letting me onto your talk page (I wonder if there is someway to block specific people from your talkpage? Hmmmmm) Aleister 10:23
I looked at the template, and it's a new one that was just put up by Frosty. There was a minor argument last year about adding pics to categories, where they could actually be found, or making every pic into its own category. And me having a good day? Always!! Even when I shoved all four of my grandparents under a train at the same time just to test a theory! I was wrong in that instance, but I had to be sure. Aleister 10:44 4-6-'11
I have no strong opinions and was just trying to help. I do hate two page categories, and feel "politicians" is not much better than "things" which I cleans up a while back. On that note I added politicians to some of the better known ones I changed. I left a lot of the nazis off politicians. But even that had as much to do with the hour of day. --K evillips эвилипс MUN,CM,NS,3of7 10:49, June 4, 2011 (UTC)
Thanks. I don't know if people will ever agree about categories. To me they are like the index of a book, 12 pages is fine as long as they are alphabetized. Politicians aren't much better than things, but as a group of people they are pretty lumped, it's a job description (like Electricians or Serial Killers - they should all be listed in the latter too) more than anything else. I have a feeling Lyrthyia is behind this controversy somehow, but that is just a good guess and nothing else. The Terminator. Well, I'll see what develops, I left a note on Frosty's page too. Thanks again. Aleister 11:04 4-6-'11

Proper cat diffusing

When diffusing a category, please try to avoid "information loss." For example, try to move articles from a root-category to a sub-cat of said category when possible, and over-catting is better than under-catting. Please don't move a page from a root category to a joke or semi-joke category. --Mn-z 12:59, June 4, 2011 (UTC)

For example, don't move Joe Biden from category:Politicians to something like Category:People who didn't fuck your mom in the kitchen last night. A better re-catting would be to remove Category:Politicians and add Category:American politicians, Category:Vice presidents, and, for example. --Mn-z 14:46, June 4, 2011 (UTC)
To be clear, I was moving politicians to sub cats of politicians. In some instances I may have added cats as well.--K evillips эвилипс MUN,CM,NS,3of7 15:08, June 4, 2011 (UTC)
I noticed you moved Aaron Burr from Category:Politicians to Category:Opportunistic Weasels with out adding other, more relevant and more serious categories, such as Category:American politicians or Category:Vice presidents. --Mn-z 00:10, June 5, 2011 (UTC)
Why not just leave the all in politicians and also add pages to the more jokey categories. Pages can be in lots of categories if they fit, and Politicians is too specific to diverse chop cut down up. It's a job title, like Burglar, and they all fit nicely in one category. Some other cats, like People or Music, can be chopped into smaller bits, imnho, but Politicians and things like, ahem, cough, Pregnancy, could all be in one central location too. And I have never used a CA category and think that is a way to lose readers looking for pages, nobody but a handful of people know what it means. Cat fights have broken out. Meoowwwww. Aleister 00:15 4-6-'11
Due to the replacement of subcat with simple category links by Lyrithya's bot, in order to guarantee that all subcategories are listed on the first page of a category's content, I need to insure that every category contains 200 or fewer total items. And that is apparently why Lyrithya replaced subcat anyway, because it makes large categories slightly less annoying. --Mn-z 00:25, June 5, 2011 (UTC)

I saw some of those Dean Martin roasts, and read that he wasn't really a big drinker but that he used it as his character. Both those guys did very well for themselves. Lewis talked about ladddiiieees a lot, drawing out the word, and then making some kind of noise afterwards, which is what I was playing with. With all this activity on comedy maybe I'll be tempted to pick one and do a page, one of the old-timey silent film guys. Sounds like lots of work to do it right, though. Maybe Fatty Arbuckle. He supposedly killed a laaaddddddiiieeeeee chu-flppe-guh-twivn. Okay, I'll do him (whoops, there's already a Fatty Arbuckle page. Too many film geeks around here). Aleister 12:01 4-6-'11

I didn't know there was a story there... It's sad, because I really thought this article was awesome, now I don't feel too confident in my writing... Hockey

I may have been reading too much into the Hockey Story dynamics. I saw more territoriality than editorial-ism in the reverts. What is not obvious is, when it was initially added, I looked at it, approved. When it was reverted, I disapproved but not enough to do anything about it, when it was rereverted and rerereverted, is when I was so moved to enter into the reversionopsony. I saw one person exerting an opinion against 2 well intentioned editors. I was curious if it was going to go for three. --K evillips эвилипс MUN,CM,NS,3of7 03:21, June 20, 2011 (UTC)

Comedy Portal

Matt, use your best judgement. My plan of action regarding it is to freshen up one of the three randoms each week. As for new articles and rewrites, I really cannot force that on anyone. Like with anything what gets done gets done, until someone reverts it. If you feel like taking a break from writing, you can create potential condensed versions of featured articles and pile them in the subdirectory, like I have done. I will make it more clear, since for now, it is secret. PS, I believed in the Vancouver story from the first time I read it. See above. --K evillips эвилипс MUN,CM,NS,3of7 03:21, June 20, 2011 (UTC)

OK, thanks, it's just an article anyways, I'll see what I can do in the soft-rewrite and formatting department. Snowflake mini Mattsnow 04:42, June 20, 2011 (UTC)
Should I add Category:Comedy portal to comedians' articles? Snowflake mini Mattsnow 05:10, June 20, 2011 (UTC)
I think of that category as a tool to find the subpages of the portal. not as a content category per se.--K evillips эвилипс MUN,CM,NS,3of7 06:33, June 20, 2011 (UTC)

Wikipedia

hi keV - HERE is my userpage. I checked your page and saw you started David Winters page ... He's a friend of mine. Do you know him? Are you in touch with him? Cheers!--Funnybony  Icons-flag-th Agnideva-small.jpg AGT-logo-small.jpg 17:26, Jun 21

RE-David Winters, His articles kept getting started and deleted because of bad sourcing, and suspected here-say. Because he lived such a varied and fantastic career, coupled with the fact he is not a household name anymore, "new" editors kept thinking that the articles started about him were gross exaggeration of BLP. So I took on the project of documenting the hell out of him. In so doing, I tracked down his Myspace, and learned it was indeed him. We struck up a friendship that remains to this day. He was the first to wish me a happy birthday last year. But we have never met IRL. and I know he has a lot of people he considers friends. Since I am pretty guarded with hat term, I can say we are friends in that we mutually agree our social connectivity. He has however trusted me with portions of his unpublished autobiography, but have agreed to a gag order on content. Recently I encountered a rights issue on wikipedia regarding a Winters related image. Cool, if you're David's Facebook friend then you'll find me too. We both live in Bangkok, and both are old friends of Bob Rafelson (Monkies, Postman Always Rings Twice) but I keep Facebook really small. Because it's THE start of the New World Order database - we stupidly built by ourselves, as sheeple. Anyway, David must really appreciate your making him a Wikipedia page. It seems only a couple years back he still didn't have an entry. Cheers!--Funnybony  Icons-flag-th Agnideva-small.jpg AGT-logo-small.jpg 19:46, Jun 21

Proof positive it sure is a small world. What happened with Wikipedia is the over-enthusiastic stubs people created were too unbelievable and looked like vanity pages. And they kept showing up under his various guises - Director or actor. As you may know, the Biography of Living People policy is pretty strict when it comes to unsourced "facts". So, I put my grad school research tools to use and sourced most of the stuff, and then battled the notability policy. I think David may say it was Linda Lovelace that got him to "stay" on wikipedia. But That was just the first source I found that had a chapter named David Winters. The Transitive power of notoriety. If a notorious person writes an autobiography and there is a chapter about you, you must be notorious too. Plus the movie Inside Deep Throat had just come out on video I think, so I was able to build. Careful reading of the text of the article you will see statements such as "is notable because..." which was my method of calling attention to the fulfillment of the notability policy. Early drafts of the article had BLP NNP tags galore. And the guy that put them on, seemed to be an overzealous person that made it his mission to squash unsourced stubs. He even had me investigated by the wikipedia inquisition to make sure I was not a sock puppet of one of the other previous editors, because all of a sudden I was writing about things in full and not just this and that kentucky topics. IJ review

Hi,

I just came across your review of my article (via 'Media in category "Books"'). What can I say? You're not making any sense (unless you were just kidding, and I'm too thick to realize it).

Readers search Uncyclopedias to learn about what they did not know already.

Huh? Whaaaat? They go to Uncyclopedia (as opposed to Wikipedia) to be amused. And how could one expect to be amused by a parody of a book one hasn't read?

They do not want to feel stupid because they think they are not getting a joke found deep in the 1000 or so pages of a book they will never read.

Why would they feel stupid? They just wouldn't click on the article -- the same way I don't click on articles about, say, A Tale of Two Cities or Atlas Shrugged (because I haven't read them, and therefore wouldn't get any of the jokes).

I can't believe I have to explain this to anyone on this site. Especially to someone who presumes to lecture others on "What is funny?".

And finally:

an article no one will read, about a book nobody has read

I don't know about the article; but Infinite Jest itself isn't all that obscure (Google it -- something you should've done before shooting your mouth off). There've been books written about it, websites devoted to it, and so on. In fact, there was already an Uncyc article on it -- why didn't you flame that article, back then? (It wasn't very good, though, so I rewrote it from scratch.) And unless you've read all the other books there are articles on, shouldn't you be busy writing a few more negative reviews?

I hope some of this sinks in, but I'm not optimistic.

Stumbo 04:05, December 20, 2011 (UTC)

Wow, now that is funny. But having been in the unenviable position of explaining jokes, or insisting something funny to the "wrong" audience, I will take your criticism to heart. But I feel free to add some explanatory notes.
 • The review, was clearly written by a fictional character from the popular UK game "Clue-do", or more accurately its American Cousin "Clue".
 • The opening paragraph tries to make clear the point of view of the critic-- very clear, by identifying key characteristics of the game in question.
 • "Professor" Plum is a pompous windbag, and while this editor understands your indignation of his scathing review of your Magna Opus, your lecture to me, the editor of the fictional character's review of your humorous take on the IJ, seems misplaced.
 • Any resemblance to real criticism by fictional characters is completely coincidental and unintentional. Especially within the context of UnReviews. PeeReviews are genuine attempts to help.
--K evillips эвилипс MUN,CM,NS,3of7 17:53, December 20, 2011 (UTC)

Fine, so I was too thick to get your joke. But since, if so, I was its main or only intended recipient (OK, now I get the "take it to email" meta-joke, too), why didn't you tell me about it once you wrote it? I might never have found it, in which case it would've been a joke for an audience of zero.

I think I've played Clue once or twice as a kid (and I did see the movie), but the name didn't ring a bell. ("Colonel Mustard," I would've recognized.) So, I'm the one who should've Googled.

And I apologize for the misplaced lecture.

P.S.: Do read the book -- 1000 pages of pretty good stuff beats 300 pages of same. (The Wikipedia page should give you a decent idea of what it's about; what they don't mention is that it has a lot of comic moments, in addition to the dramatic and tragic ones.)

Stumbo 03:38, December 21, 2011 (UTC)

Bonus link: a music video based on a silly-but-crucial scene from IJ: kids at a tennis academy are playing a war-based RPG called Eschaton, and things get a wee bit out of hand -- though the video doesn't explain how and why. (It starts with an argument about the rules.)

You may be happy to know I have downloaded a "sample" of the thing to my Kindle for Android app. Best I can do with my overly long reading list. --K evillips эвилипс MUN,CM,NS,3of7 17:55, December 21, 2011 (UTC)

It's irrelevant, you should just ignore these. I'm a bit surprised since I think there's not much unfriendly people around, but anyway. Whatever was said on IRC by drunk people doesn't matter at all, it would be a shame to leave for such petty stuff. Looking forward to hear from you man, you were one of the people who are friendly and greeted me well! :) Snowflake mini Mattsnow 18:21, December 21, 2011 (UTC)
and if by "editorial" you mean UnNews editor, well I am the editor now and I think I am very much friendly and permissive. If you meant "admins" by that, I cn tell you that I declined to be one and quite frankly, I don't care at all about this site's politics, I don't know if there is one really! Come back bro! Snowflake mini Mattsnow 18:31, December 21, 2011 (UTC)
No I do not mean unnews editor, I am being rather vague on purpose. Essentially, an oligarchy with despots is not a place to be creative. Humor by democratic action is potentially tepid. By declaring this huffable, but that as a VFD, coupled with an extremely high maintenance reversal process, makes for less edgy comedy. My humor is leaning toward more absurdist extremum or nostalgia nuevo. The latter of which is not understood by anyone younger than 30. But expect me to pop up now and again when I feel inspired to post something in some of the more obscure corners of the site. --K evillips эвилипс MUN,CM,NS,3of7 00:16, December 22, 2011 (UTC)
It sure would be appreciated, you were one of my mentors! There's all sorts of people on an Internet community just as in real life, you can't agree with them all. :P Snowflake mini Mattsnow 00:59, June 25, 2012 (UTC)

HuFFW

Huff Forum:FFW_2011 The idea of this disgusts me. That people arbitrarily delete or huff pages based on an initial impression and possibly humor impairment or possible grudge against the sole author is enough for for me to decide to put my energies elsewhere. That the "FFW" Literally occurred on one of my favorite penned articles, featured on my userpage while I was literally on the road moving across country and would be without internet for quite a while, which was widely known by the power user community of attention payers, makes me believe it was in fact arson. In retaliation for the nomination for deletion of two equally crap articles, which were defended by power abuse of great magnitude, and encouraged another dedicated user to abandon the site. Click click click tick tick tick boom. --K evillips эвилипс MUN,CM,NS,3of7 00:59, June 25, 2012 (UTC)

I totally agree, I was against FFW from the beginning. Some good articles went down in flames and some users found out their article had been deleted and got them back in a jiffy. The idea of having a competition to see who would destroy the most articles was ridiculous. I'm sure it won't happen again, or there's gonna be very fierce opposition. However, the admin situation changed a lot since that time, and I am quite sure Black Flamingo or Romartus or Xamralco would be very happy to restore your article bro. :) Snowflake mini Mattsnow 01:09, June 25, 2012 (UTC)
There are people that say there are no coincidences. But that "my" article was deleted while I was literally moving which I clearly maintained the dates on my vacation notice. AND it was deleted by someone that could very well have been angry with me for nominating two of his for vfd, makes me suspicious of the process and outcome. If I cared enough to check the forensics I could probably see the files deleted by the user and see if by chance it could be possible that the article deleted previous was deleted in an time sequence consistent with the average of a series of deletions, or if it was "gun jumped" ie put to the top of a hit list. Or if it came up random ,and s/he saw the sole author let that be the criteria foe deletion rather than the project stated. Given the ops history of blatant power abuse, and campaigns for more power, I do not believe in coincidences. I do not believge in a system that lets arbitrary absolute power in which the only reaction is a campaign against it with more reasonable people? Micromanaging humor is so difficult. Ever read Lenny Bruce's Bio? or seen the documentary? That is so close to how I feel. ie "who are you to say this is not funny? or not funny enough? two people can tel the same joke, nd one get twice as many laughs as the other - why? delivery and audience. On the net, the audience is at once near zero and infinite. If one person smiles and gets it, is it doing its job? I say yes. If one person does not, should it be deleted? I am.--K evillips эвилипс MUN,CM,NS,3of7--K evillips эвилипс MUN,CM,NS,3of7 01:41, June 25, 2012 (UTC)
