Thank you, Isra!

You're my new favorite admin, Isra. (For what that's worth!) I should have known the newest member of the club would also be the first to develop a pair of testicles. (You are male, right? In your case, I'm willing to believe you had them all along.)  c • > • cunwapquc? 00:20, 21 March 2006 (UTC)

The pages unneccessarily provoked conflict and unfairly implicated other users who have shown good faith. They were deleted for that reason and only that reason. In the future, if you chose to continue here, please act in a more appropriate matter so that these matters can be resolved normally and with less conflict. If you have not done so, I suggest you see my note on your talk page. ---QuillRev. Isra (talk) 00:38, 21 March 2006 (UTC)
What would have been a more appropriate manner, though? What would have been "normal" in this case? Has there ever been a situation like this before? If there were some sort of policy about the use of sock puppet user pages to attack other users, whether or not admins are behind it, I swear to you, Isra, I would have followed that policy. I honestly didn't know what else to do, okay? But if you think I'm either of these other two people, then naturally you'd assume that all I'd want to do is create conflict. Of course, what else would I do! Sorry, but I didn't start this, Isra. Just the same, though, thank you for helping to end it, or at least starting the ball rolling.  c • > • cunwapquc? 00:56, 21 March 2006 (UTC)
In the future please refrain from making demands or ultimatums. Ban Patrol was an alright place to put your concerns, but is also a place where you must be patient. Most admins who check it are looking to do grunt work, not make executive decisions, so it will not be the swiftest way to address problems. I would suggest bringing such issues to a neutral admin or a bureaucrat and asking him or her nicely on a talk page to remove the offending content. Though I recognize that you did not start this incident, it is not unrelated to your ungoing behavior, and you certainly made the decision to escalate the conflict. I don't particularly care who is in the right here, both you and the sockpuppeteers have allowed there to be trouble. It may seem unfair, but for the sake of those trying to run the wiki, you should not confront those who you believe dislike you. If possible you should ignore them and refrain from making any unneeded references to them. ---QuillRev. Isra (talk) 01:11, 21 March 2006 (UTC)
Would it be OK if I just informed you when it happens again? I don't mind if it's only directed against me, and not the others. If that had been the case, seriously, I would have ignored it. I don't want to bring whoever-this-is any more attention than you do.  c • > • cunwapquc? 02:06, 21 March 2006 (UTC)
If in the future you find content that you believe should be removed, I will address your concerns if asked. I make no promises as to the results, but I will act as I see appropriate if such material is brought to my attention. ---QuillRev. Isra (talk) 02:08, 21 March 2006 (UTC)

Hey, i'm new here, so i'm wondering where I can find a list of the templates. Well, that and hookers. Hotass Wiki Hookers. Karmafist 03:49, 20 March 2006 (UTC)

Templates are amazing unorganized and scattered, but an attempt to collect them can be found here. ---QuillRev. Isra (talk) 03:51, 20 March 2006 (UTC)
Also you can go to Special:Allpages. Hi again Karma. --Splaka 03:55, 20 March 2006 (UTC)

Could you restore Template:Jingoism? I'd like to fold it into Template:Qua?. --Xoid 12:11, 19 March 2006 (UTC)

I can restore the code for you if you want it for something else, but I would prefer that it not be folded into Qua. Much of the point of the recent massive template destruction is to make all of the maintanence templates official, unoffensive and effective. Jingoism failed on all accounts because it was not only obtrusive and excoriating, it also looked like it was the actual content of the page and not a template. ---QuillRev. Isra (talk) 20:54, 19 March 2006 (UTC)
Ihave restored the template to User:Xoid/Jingoism. Please get my permission before altering Qua though. ---QuillRev. Isra (talk) 21:03, 19 March 2006 (UTC)
I believe the whole point of Jingoism is that is was so over the top that it could be used in two ways:
  • Humorously
  • Punishment
The first case should speak for itself. It was, in my opinion, funny simply because it was so offensive. Of course, other's sense of humour differs to my own. The second case would be for repeat offenders, as a means of allowing whoever tagged the page with {{Jingoism}} to vent their rage (somewhat) constructively. I'll see if I can alter it, so that it would be suitable as a template for content management - perhaps (with alterations) it could be used to tag articles that the non-western would have no idea about.
But for the moment... I've copied the code and the image to my hard drive, so if you really want to send it to /dev/null without leaving a copy for posterity, feel free to do so. --Xoid 22:16, 19 March 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for getting that off the Lulu artical (do not see why he did it, there is lots of things that are partially true, just "metaphorical" or "implied", probably just dense, or lacking completely of the subject). See my other articals:

Oh, and see NATO, some important edits I did there (ExLinks). Thanks -- 07:01, 19 March 2006 (UTC)

I removed the NRV tag, but all of those pages could stand to have their formatting cleaned significantly. Please do so. ---QuillRev. Isra (talk) 07:07, 19 March 2006 (UTC)

Nice welcome, I found this site, thought it was fun. So I see a red link in sport and turn it blue. I come back and see NRV on it. It's not a really positive way to greet newcomers, unless you don't like newcomers. Shrug. Rx freerangelove 05:04, 19 March 2006 (UTC)

Please understand that there are dozens of short non-encyclopedic articles created every day by people who will never return to fix them and which no one else will ever touch. If we just let those slide our site would be overflowing with short unfunny articles and you would never be able to find the good stuff. To avert this we use NRV, which goes on nearly every short article, and allows us to automatically delete articles if no one cares to fix them up in a week. If you expanded your article to be more than two or three jokes then I would be happy to see it stay. "No redeeming value" doesn't mean that the article has no value, only that what value it has is overshadowed by other issues like length. If you stick around I think you will find that the admins can be very reasonable: even the fact that someone cares about whether an article lives or dies is often enough to save it. -- -QuillRev. Isra (talk) 05:34, 19 March 2006 (UTC)
I understand and I should have been more sensitive to that, I'm active on Wikipedia and have deleted more crap/etc than I care to think about. I probably over-reacted, I was surprised but I probably shouldn't have been. Thanks for the response. Rx freerangelove 05:57, 19 March 2006 (UTC) (cross posted also)
Not a problem. I understand how frustrating it can be when you aren't in the know about how things work. I have been trying to fix that problem, but with so much cruft to deal with it can be difficult to really communicate well. Anyhow, I hope you enjoy the site. ---QuillRev. Isra (talk) 06:02, 19 March 2006 (UTC)

Phil Osophy

Yo Isra, you didn't like the article 'bout mister Osophy? It is a very important inventer and I think he should be rewarded with an article! :)) But I don't know how to make it look very pimp and how to add pictures to it..

It's more that I didn't like the particular rewrite tags that were on it. You tagged your page for rewrite when you added {{crap}} to it and then Mindsunwound further tagged it with {{random-rewrite}}. As it happens I am hoping to phase those templates out and so I replaced them with the standard {{rewrite}} without really looking at your page.
I did look at it just now and what you should do is first get a login name. Once you do, you can upload pictures and add them to your page. Next take a look at this help sheet over at wikipedia, it will tell you how to format properly. I also recommend looking at some of the featured pages and seeing how they managed formatting. ---QuillRev. Isra (talk) 21:26, 18 March 2006 (UTC)

Paul Feyerabend

Before commenting your NRV-tagging, what do you know about him?--Suresh simple Swami A. Suresh 09:03, 18 March 2006 (UTC)

Nothing. But I NRVed it instead of huffing it because I saw your name in the history. As per a relatively new policy, once something is rewrite tagged it has to be expanded and brought up to code in a month. It is month 3 now, so I went through the month 1 articles and deleted most of them, but NRVed some. Yours got lucky. ---QuillRev. Isra (talk) 09:11, 18 March 2006 (UTC)
OK. Paul Feyerabend is a philosofer of science famous for the quota "anything goes". His standpoint was anti-Popper, that is, different methods and lines of thinking beside objective reasoning can have equal scientifical value. For example -the mythological perspective of the city of Troja can be as valuable as the archeological facts. More extreme - a postmodern intepretation of his ideas would end up in pataphysics - one statement being as truthful as the other.
So the random jokes about him are highly intentional. I added a few pictures, and might add one more with a mytholocical theme, but I will not re-write it or make it longer just to try to keep it. I fear that will spoil the joke. --Suresh simple Swami A. Suresh 09:33, 18 March 2006 (UTC)
Well, my advice is to go to the admin who tagged the page for rewrite if it was an admin. If not, find an admin who will get the joke and have him/her okay it. Otherwise my only suggestion is to post it on VFD with an explanation and hope the vote is for "keep." ---QuillRev. Isra (talk) 09:51, 18 March 2006 (UTC)
I tagged it for rewrite myself! Or rather - I put a "piece of crap"-banner there to mark i think the article - or it's subject is a piece of crap. So maybe I can untag it myself? ;-)--Suresh simple Swami A. Suresh 11:26, 18 March 2006 (UTC)
Arg. This is exactly why I want to get rid of the {{crap}} template. Untag it. ---QuillRev. Isra (talk) 21:28, 18 March 2006 (UTC)
No harm done. And thank you for patiently exerting admin power. As you see, if you go to the page, it have paid of. I got the spark necessary to shape it up a little. If you look, please tell if you think the joke is overexplained. --Suresh simple Swami A. Suresh 08:44, 19 March 2006 (UTC)

Another question. I made an entry called Åland Islands (a real autonomous region in scandinavia). Another user filled it with random jokes. I reverded his edits - and he NRV-tagged me as a revenge. I think this is a little unfair. The person had no reason to NRV-tag it, other than revenge. I didn't want to remove the banner myself though, in fear of the ban stick.

What should I have done? Call for VFD? I--Suresh simple Swami A. Suresh 11:30, 18 March 2006 (UTC)

If an anon ip tags something with NRV, just remove it. ---QuillRev. Isra (talk) 21:15, 18 March 2006 (UTC)
