You've probably heard about this already, but it'd be really nice if you could check out VFH and see if there's anything you like in there. I'm asking you this because VFH is really low in votes and you're a (more) regular user (than me) and you've got a good taste when it comes to articles. You don't need to vote on everything, just a couple votes would already be a big help. Thanks for hearing me out! Message from ResurrectedSage

Yeah, I'd like to drop a message. If the Fire Emblem article is too long, I can create a new, shorter page. I have (somewhat) an entire team that isn't made up of Oscar Wilde survivors who would be able to help on it too.The preceding unsigned comment was added by ResurrectedSage (talk • contribs)

You can absolutely do that if you like, feel free. Just make sure it's funny, and accessible to folks other than those who play Fire Emblem (it's a game, right?). Read that manual that I'm sure somebody left on your talk page when you joined. The reason I put that article on VFD is that it's too long and does not contain enough funny (in my opinion, anyway). And we like to think that articles work better when they shy away from jokes that are only understood by a small group, although inside jokes can be made hilarious, too. Remember, it's nothing personal.
Also, make sure when you drop a message to put it down here at the bottom (unless you're posting to a particular thread), and sign with ~~~~ (four tildes). Thanks. ~ BB ~ (T) Icons-flag-usTue, May 15 '12 23:06 (UTC)

I'm new, I'm learning and thanks, will start immediately on that page. Might need help since I'm not generally awesome at writing.RS (talk) 00:14, May 16, 2012 (UTC)ResurrectedSage

Saving an article while on VFD is a time-honored tradition. You should either mention there that you are undertaking the job or make a copy in your userspace, in case the vote goes against you quickly; that will save you from begging an Admin to un-huff it so you can continue working. Spıke ¬ 21:19 17-May-12
He's made a copy here, and has also asked for a Pee Review. (Haha, "Pee Review". I've read that fifteen thousand times, but it's still funny.) ~ BB ~ (T) Icons-flag-usThu, May 17 '12 21:22 (UTC)

The article is done and the ICU tag is removed. You're welcome to see the new version myself and another created. RS (talk) 21:52, May 23, 2012 (UTC)

Yeah so I hear my article was taken down by Xamalcro and a few others who decided to vote more than once. I'm just curious, you do know what Fire Emblem is, right? RS (talk) 17:58, July 1, 2012 (UTC)

They're not allowed to vote multiple times. Do I know what it is? My impression of Fire Emblem is that it is a fantasy tactical role-playing video game franchise developed by Intelligent Systems and published by Nintendo, and is well known for its innovation and for being one of the first Eastern style tactical role-playing games, with a strong emphasis on Western forms of medieval folklore. ~ BB ~ (T) Icons-flag-usMon, Jul 2 '12 6:16 (UTC)

Colorful change histories

May I suggest that you write change histories with less obscenity, disdain, and grandiloquence? If you want to crack wise and/or get on a soapbox, write an article. If you want to correct another user, get on a talk page; or, in the case of Anon, just roll him back and let him be. Change histories should let us identify an edit of interest from the past, not chronicle your editing philosophy. Cheers. Spıke ¬ 11:04 24-May-12

On the edit to Robert Burns: Anon seems to have something in mind, and a knowledge of the subject matter that is greater than mine. I would give him some string and see what else he's got, though eventually someone will have to step in, if only to correct grammar and spelling.

On the edit to Honda: Whew! Drug-induced. Verges on funny, but seems to almost have an axe to grind. Again, if this clump of butter remains, eventually someone will have to spread it around the surface more smoothly. Here again, I would proceed slowly and see what else he's got. Spıke ¬ 11:22 24-May-12

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, but both of those things have been sitting there for a few days. The Honda one strikes me as semi-retarded, but then I'm semi-retarded, so who knows. ~ BB ~ (T) Icons-flag-usThu, May 24 '12 11:25 (UTC)

Honda just plain needs an owner. (Sorry; I drive a Hyundai.) The intro is just as rambling, unencyclopedic, and error-filled. Both the intro and the new bit are individual essays that keep the article from flowing. Have now looked at the entire Robert Burns (and the whole change history, where Anon does seem to talk to you briefly). Anon's changes are less encyclopedic than the rest of the article, and don't really blaze humor trails but only suggest that Anon is a funny storyteller. I'll revert. Spıke ¬ 11:38 24-May-12

Monday Night Football

Again with the pontificating in the Change Summary! but I agree with you, not just in the overuse of templates, but in the use, ever, of any template that purports to guide the user in how to understand the article he hasn't yet begun to read. It's the child prodigy beginning his exposition with, "As you may be surprised to believe...." Just give me the bleeping info and let me decide whether I'm surprised. The author is on stage and should perform before he tells me how loud to clap. Spıke ¬ 12:54 24-May-12

You know, up until about a month ago, I never used to leave an edit summary. And then somebody mentioned that people should leave a summary when undoing changes, to explain why they were doing it, especially when they weren't just undoing vandalism.
But, yeah, opening templates...just look dumb. And bad. If I could ban users who use them, I would. It makes the place look like a garbage dump. Ironically, my first edit here consisted of making a template. I should've been banned forever. ~ BB ~ (T) Icons-flag-usThu, May 24 '12 12:58 (UTC)

Patrol widget

This is cute! but not exactly what I want.

  • On the new "patrol these changes" button in RecentChanges, I especially like not being taken to a new page for confirmation, which invites me to return somewhere where I never want to go. However, having the button here invites me to patrol 12 changes independent of whether I've seen them. What I'd like is to be able to click on "12 changes", see everything that changed, "11 intermediate revisions not shown," and have a [Patrol all these changes] button on the diff display.
  • On patrolling a single change, [Patrol this change] is already on the diff page, so I'd tend to use that, despite getting diverted to another page.
  • It might be nice to see the unpatrolled attribute, and to signify a patrol, from any History page.

In summary, your user interface is easy and unintrusive, but it's the diff page (or multi-diff page) where I want a way to signify that I've reviewed everything shown on the screen. Spıke ¬ 16:30 2-Jun-12

PS--Also, I don't see your changes when I enable the experimental "Realtime" option to make RecentChanges auto-refresh. Spıke ¬ 16:32 2-Jun-12

Yup, I've used both, but Bizzee seems to know ways to make things happen without having to leave the page. Spıke ¬ 23:11 2-Jun-12

Hi Spike!
  1. On having a "patrol these changes" on the diff page: there is no way to query the API for the intermediate RCIDs of those changes (and the RCID is the single bit of data you need to patrol a page). There is a workaround, and I was planning to employ it when I got around to making version 2.0.
  2. It is handy to patrol single (or even multiple) changes without looking at them. What changes would you want to do that with? Those made by established users who aren't auto-patrolled yet (such as those guys who never do anything but add interwiki links), and for users who are changing pages in their user-space. I used it when "Alcohol" categorized a metric fucktonne of images. Oh, and also for pages which "belong" to the editor, like Medical school.
  3. It would be very useful to patrol unpatrolled changes from the history page. So of course the API doesn't allow you get an RCID from anywhere other than Special:RecentChanges. Why? I don't know. Ask Wikia.
  4. The realtime function is a whole other can of worms. It loads asynchronously with the page, and my script only runs through the DOM tree when you first load the page. I probably could integrate my script with that one, but I'm guessing the original author didn't leave many hooks lying around, so it would probably end up being a spaghetti-code mess unless I rewrote the whole thing. I'll have to look, though.
TL;DR version: #1 is doable. #2 is there for a reason. #3 is apparently not possible, and #4 may not be possible without rewriting the realtime script.
As for a dynamic watchlist function, I can probably do that without much trouble. I'll get back to you on it.
Hope this answered your questions. ~ BB ~ (T) Icons-flag-usSun, Jun 3 '12 0:50 (UTC)

Thank you! hardly too long to read. Thanks for describing the magnitude of the problem; I had assumed that all the Realtime widget did was add code to the page to pull a new copy every five seconds. Wikia might benefit from your insight as a coder, over mine as a user with a wish list, if you'd care to communicate with them. I am not indeed going to mark edits patrolled without looking at them; at the least, even the edits of a trusted user might need clerical post-edit (Romartus!); at best, anything I see might set me off in a new and worthwhile direction. By the way, marking a page creation as patrolled is for some reason a different procedure from marking an edit as patrolled, and I'm not up to speed on marking creations--sometimes I see the button and sometimes I don't. Spıke ¬ 01:59 3-Jun-12

On page-creation: when a new page is created and there are no subsequent unpatrolled edits, there is just a single "diff", and so the "patrol" link is easily visible. However, when a new page is created and there are subsequent edits, they are all grouped together. If you open the group and look at the first edit, you will find a "(patrol these changes)" link, which will patrol the page creation and the changes grouped with it. This is because the software doesn't supply an "[N] changes" link for changes on new pages. (Why, I would very much like to know.)
I haven't yet looked at the realtime code; if it really does just pull a new version of the page every five seconds, that wouldn't be too difficult to fix for.
As for Wikia...yech. Unless I were getting paid for it, I'd never want to work with them. My expertise lies in Javascript and XML/HTML, anyway, not the mediaWiki API. ~ BB ~ (T) Icons-flag-usSun, Jun 3 '12 2:31 (UTC) P.S. The realtime script is an add-on by VillajIdiot (sp), not a wikia-standard gadget, fur as I know. Most of our gadgets are like that. ~ BB ~ (T) Icons-flag-usSun, Jun 3 '12 2:35 (UTC)

The new legend "(patrol this page)" on an unpatrolled page creation does not seem to be inserted in the right place. I have the timestamp in a different font and your legend is picking up this font; your other patrol legends are in the same font as "diff" and "hist". Why does it appear any differently from the other "patrol" buttons? Spıke ¬ 02:37 4-Jun-12

That's probably because it's not part of Bizzee's legend. I can see it too and I'm not using any legends, gadgets or widgets. Sir SockySexy girls Mermaid with dolphin Tired Marilyn Monroe (talk) (stalk)Magnemite Icons-flag-be GUN SotM UotM PMotM UotY PotM WotM 02:47, 4 June 2012
SPIKE: not really sure, I've noticed it myself. I think there is a missing style definition in the site CSS for timestamps for new pages grouped with changes. ~ BB ~ (T) Icons-flag-usMon, Jun 4 '12 7:48 (UTC)

Is it really necessary for that template to have an image_map in addition to an image? The wikipedia one doesn't. I did a javascript search, and it appears that 23 of the 57 pages that use that template use image_map. I looked at a few at random; some that "use image_map" don't seem to have anything show up; your first citation uses it only as a holding place for a photograph that could go anywhere else. Imitation of Wikipedia should be the main criterion. Spıke ¬ 15:19 15-Jun-12

Yeah, the ones that don't display anything actually use the parameter, but leave it empty. I will get rid of it, then. ~ BB ~ (T) Icons-flag-usFri, Jun 15 '12 15:22 (UTC)

Without doubt your template work has cleaned up many of the articles that omitted the formerly required fields. But a more in-depth look at your 23 articles above reveals a treasure-trove of school-cruft. Starting with Clown Enema University, a long inside joke whose article can be retrieved only by readers who already know the punch line. Spıke ¬ 21:01 16-Jun-12

Ay-yup. Go ahead and {{Fix}} the ones that need fixing, and {{VFD}} the irredeemable ones. ~ BB ~ (T) Icons-flag-usSat, Jun 16 '12 21:58 (UTC)

If you would place on my userpage a list of all pages that use {{Infobox University}} (with or without image_map), I'll get started. Spıke ¬ 02:48 17-Jun-12

Just go here. ~ BB ~ (T) Icons-flag-usSun, Jun 17 '12 16:15 (UTC)

Guess I could have done that; I was hoping for a list that I could edit as I dispose of them. At any rate, the first nom is in on VFD. Spıke ¬ 16:41 17-Jun-12

Oh, ok, sorry. Lol. Here ya go....I don't know where you want me to put 'em, so C&P wherever, and then delete the above. ~ BB ~ (T) Icons-flag-usSun, Jun 17 '12 16:52 (UTC)

Thanks, I did. Prime candidates are high schools (mainly because they have high-school humor) and foreign ones. Electoral College, by comparison, is in good shape. My personal schoolcruft reclamation project, Michigan Technological University, doesn't use the template at all. Spıke ¬ 17:02 17-Jun-12

And that's why I'm going to add {{Infobox caution}} to all the infoboxes...eventually. They rarely bring anything good to an article here. ~ BB ~ (T) Icons-flag-usSun, Jun 17 '12 17:04 (UTC)

Their use may help a page superficially resemble Wikipedia, which I'm all for; but the implication that you need to fill out every field indeed needs to be fought through education. Spıke ¬ 17:19 17-Jun-12

face book share/like button

Hey are like...totally the most coolest awsome guy in the world of awsomeness! rock...and you are so cool. Man...I wish I was as rocking as you are you cool awsome babe magnet!

Hey...remember those five thousand favours I've done for you...this week alone? Well its time to call in the favour back!

It would be really nice if we could get the facebook share button working. Aparantly the old one was broken (maybe because of all the code this site is based on...I don't know). According to Zombie Baron you are a coding maybe you could help?

If the site can't have a generic share button on the skin, would you know how to put share buttons on specific pages? I tried the following two methods, to no success.

I copied the code on the developers.facebook onto the wiki, but it doesn't read that code, maybe because the wiki code is not the same as website code? As for the help.wikia I have no idea how to access those tools. I've also dropped a line with Jack Phoenix and Olipro...but I have a feeling you'll beat them too sexy hunk you (shabidoo flutters his eyelashes). xoxoxox --ShabiDOO 18:17, June 18, 2012 (UTC)

First off, flattery will get you nowhere. Second, I believe Lyrithya had a "sharing" tab set up for the site, but...took it down?...because it broke. I can certainly give it the old college try, but it would have to wait until after the PLS, because, believe it or not, I actually want to win a couple of categories. Any sharing buttons would best be added through the site interface itself, which only an admin can fiddle with. I guess the TL;DR version of what I'm saying is "I'll get back to you on it." :D  ~ BB ~ (T) Icons-flag-usMon, Jun 18 '12 18:27 (UTC)

Nav Templates Gone Wild

On the bottom of pages such as Mexico, nav templates are proliferating out of control. This page has one for North American countries (there is a separate one for Central American countries), followed by one for Countries of the World. And they look dissimilar. Perhaps there should just be one, with the ability to conditionally display a selected region as a sort of zoom-in. Spıke ¬ 20:41 18-Jun-12

I guess I'm confused. You thinking we should make a new navbox? Or redesign the old one(s)? Or merge them? Are you looking for a list of pages which use more than one navbox?  ~ BB ~ (T) Icons-flag-usMon, Jun 18 '12 21:09 (UTC)

The North American one looks junky, and includes Turkey, which is further from North America than ever. Just sayin' you should take a look at them, if you feel like it. Spıke ¬ 21:16 18-Jun-12

How many country navboxes are there? If you could list a few of them, that might help. I'll go see what Wikipedia does. ~ BB ~ (T) Icons-flag-usMon, Jun 18 '12 21:28 (UTC)

I'm not talking about single-country nav templates, such as the one I created recently for {{India}}, but the world nav templates. Just look at the bottom of Mexico and see if you think there is a problem. Spıke ¬ 22:48 18-Jun-12

I've tweaked {{North America}} a bit. But the thing that Wikipedia does, when it has to have more than one nav template at the end of a page, is to have each of them use hide/show and turn into one-liners until the user expands them. Spıke ¬ 00:17 19-Jun-12

I know you're not talking about the single-country stuff, and I did look at Mexico. That *is* one runaway template blob. I think if we tackle it, we should make a single template which is divided up into sections along continents, and then make it so that the continent germane to the current article is the only one expanded by default. Whattya think? ~ BB ~ (T) Icons-flag-usTue, Jun 19 '12 1:07 (UTC)
Er, that seems a bit ambitious, when I consider that there are 200+ actual countries, and no end of made-up ones on this site. But I still like the idea of there being a single template. Thoughts? ~ BB ~ (T) Icons-flag-usTue, Jun 19 '12 1:12 (UTC)

That is what I was getting at; the goal being to present the user with options he might want, but to avoid bewildering him by confining the initial display to the most likely ones. This is not urgent, just a way to better organize the site that you might act on. Spıke ¬ 01:20 19-Jun-12

What continent should we put fake countries on? And what dictates whether or not an article on a country makes it to the template? Maybe only high-quality, or better yet, featured fake countries? ~ BB ~ (T) Icons-flag-usTue, Jun 19 '12 1:30 (UTC)

The continent they claim to pertain to? And the discretion of the template writer? Had not thought this through entirely. However, clearly, some of the articles should be occluded until the reader requests them; and the approach ought to be unified through all articles that claim to be about a country of the world. Spıke ¬ 01:40 19-Jun-12

Roger that. I'll toss something together in a day or a week or so. ~ BB ~ (T) Icons-flag-usTue, Jun 19 '12 3:00 (UTC)

The initial paragraph of prose follows the local rule for BODY because it does not begin with P.

This template is somehow unbalanced in a way that makes the following paragraph render strangely, given my local standing orders. (I usually get this effect when someone puts an illustration in-line in a paragraph without hard returns, which keeps MediaWiki from emitting <P>.) Could you investigate? Spıke ¬ 18:21 29-Jun-12

Fixed? If-not, screen-shot! ~ BB ~ (T) Icons-flag-usFri, Jun 29 '12 23:11 (UTC)

Not fixed. The initial paragraph (above the TOC) does not start with <P>; it does when I remove {{Worst100}}. A screen shot would just be confusing, as I have a different local rule for BODY from P. It won't look this bad on anyone else's screen. Spıke ¬ 23:53 29-Jun-12

Indulge me. Oh, and tell me this: what page is it fucking up on? And does another template directly follow it?
Because without a screenshot, I have, y'know, like, no freaking idea what's going wrong. Trying to fix a problem on your computer without having any idea what it even looks like is like trying to masturbate an elephant in a dark room filled with warm rubber hoses. I might grab the right one by accident, but it's ...not very likely.  ~ BB ~ (T) Icons-flag-usFri, Jun 29 '12 23:59 (UTC)

I haven't been in a dark room with an elephant since your mother propositioned me. ~ BB ~ (T) Icons-flag-usSat, Jun 30 '12 3:22 (UTC)

Your "bug solver" change corrects the display here, and indeed the first paragraph now starts with <P>. Spıke ¬ 03:41 30-Jun-12

I'll give you $0.01 US if you can guess why. ~ BB ~ (T) Icons-flag-usSat, Jun 30 '12 3:42 (UTC)

I would resent this if I had not spent a large part of yesterday evening riddling my cohorts on how the catcher dropped strike three but ended the inning by taking a single step. My guess will be that the template contains an unmatched <nowiki> tag, though that does not explain why the same thing happens when there is an inline [File:...] embedded in the paragraph. Am dying to know the real cause. Spıke ¬ 03:57 30-Jun-12

If there had been an unclosed <nowiki> tag, I would have fixed that. No, the problem...
(drum roll.....) that your rewrite puts a [[link]] at the beginning of a line. And MediaWiki gets confused when it sees that, because its parser is a retarded mess consisting of thirty gerbils in a bag, and a fifteen-thousand-character regular expression. Sticking a <nowiki/> at the beginning of the line effectively slaps it in the face and says "Yo! Paragraph here, fucker!"
Ta-da! That simple. I figured it out so quickly because...none of the other articles that use that template had the same problem.
Anyway, too bad you couldn't figure it out. I had a new-minted, fresh, shiny copper penny from the Denver mint, just a-layin' here on my keyboard. But my dog just ate it. ~ BB ~ (T) Icons-flag-usSat, Jun 30 '12 4:07 (UTC)
P.S. The bases were loaded when the catcher dropped the ball, so he took one step forward and put his foot on the plate to force the runner from third, who, by rule, became a runner when the ball was dropped? ~ BB ~ (T) Icons-flag-usSat, Jun 30 '12 4:13 (UTC)

Thank you for the answer. I can always rephrase stuff to avoid this. Meanwhile, don't revert your PS; that is exactly what happened. Some of us with scorecards write: KFC. Spıke ¬ 04:24 30-Jun-12

A similar bug occurs (and <P> is not emitted) when I comment at the bottom of certain users' talk pages, such as User talk:ChiefjusticeDS, and until someone else posts below me. Why for? Spıke ¬ 12:10 2-Jul-12

Diffs or it didn't happen. ~ BB ~ (T) Icons-flag-usMon, Jul 2 '12 12:47 (UTC)

You are onto something; it didn't happen in the previous rev. I'll experiment with a NOWIKI in my signature. 12:52 PS--Nothing simple works. Is it a result of having a SPAN in a wikilink (to override the link color)? Spıke ¬ 13:03 2-Jul-12

I did some tests. Pretty sure it's not your sig, or anything about your edit. If you can come up with other examples, I might be able to track it down, but as it's not a particularly important issue, it's probably just best to assume "fuck MediaWiki". ~ BB ~ (T) Icons-flag-usMon, Jul 2 '12 13:36 (UTC)

Only other chronic case, again, is when someone embeds [File:...] in a paragraph without hard returns. 14:49 2-Jul-12 PS--I took all the wiki-code out of my signature and it still does it--perhaps only on user talk pages that have categories? Also, the link you placed on my user talk page cannot be what you want me to look at, can it? Spıke ¬ 14:46 3-Jul-12

Yeah, no, it wasn't. >.< Anyway, about the wiki-code, as you can see, it isn't your signature. Can't you just accept that MediaWiki is a giant pile of pig-slop? ~ BB ~ (T) Icons-flag-usTue, Jul 3 '12 15:16 (UTC)

I came back??? (what???, how???, huh??? everything is a smeared hazy blur)... The first one does, but I'm not sure where. I stumbled across it when I added Wikipedia:Tools/Navigation popups The second one might, but it's an iffy one. I noticed in Wikia emails they give an option of "See changes since last visit." This means there is a record of when a logged in user last visits a particular page. Where that is I'm not so sure. --                              Puppy's talk page02:04 06 Jul 14:04, July 6, 2012 (UTC)

Whew, that's one fancy script. We already have it, it appears. It also appears that the installation here is messed up, because when I turn it on in my preferences, nothing happens. Try putting this code in your [skin].js file, and then refresh your cache (actually, you only need refresh your browser's cached version of your [skin].js file):
importScript( "MediaWiki:Gadget-popups.js" )
importStylesheet( "MediaWiki:Gadget-navpop.css" )

I know you used to be able to +1 and Like and Share and all sorts of shit by pressing a button on the tab before. Do you remember what happened? And also is there a way to look at how many times an article has been shared on social media, a la the little box that Dinosaur Comix has? If not, we should make a little box like that. The preceding unsigned comment was added by Thekillerfroggy (talk • contribs)

First off, sign your posts noob. Second: Yeah, yeah, yeah, get in line, I got other shit needs fixin' first. Sheesh, this place is turning into a JOB.
Now: short answers because I ain't got any others:
  1. what happened to it? Somebody broke it and then Somebody removed it. Or it broke itself. At any rate, it's gone.
  2. Is there a way? Sure, there are javascript tidbits all over the Internet for listing the number of times a page has been "faved" on social networks. We could probably rip off Dinosaur Comics' plugin. If you want it, wait your turn and maybe it'll get done in a week or so, before I lose my Internet access. (Unless you just want it for yourself, in which case, fuck off, I'm not doing any more requests.)
Anyway, yeah. If you want a badge/button/bunch of buttons that hang down off of the toolbar ^^ up there, submit your request vv here. Thansk. ~ BB ~ (T) Icons-flag-usThu, Jul 5 '12 5:43 (UTC)

Son of a....

That issue I had off site with repeated edits to a page. It looks as though the exported files from Mediawiki v1.19 are subtly different to those from v1.16, so that it will import the same revision multiple times when going into v1.12. Which explains that lovely history we were looking at the other day. (older one v newer one.)

Also, I've started going back through the unpatrolled edits, but without quite the same fervour as I was earlier. I know you created a patrol grouped thingy, but it was still in infancy when I was taking my enforced sabbatical. Have you got a "how to" for it? --                              Puppy's talk page02:33 13 Jul 02:33, July 13, 2012 (UTC)

And if you really want to show your excitement at patrolling edits, there's always this. --                              Puppy's talk page05:52 13 Jul 05:52, July 13, 2012 (UTC)
The way to include my script is the same as the old way (I think, can't remember). It's pretty much done (for now):
importScript( "User:Bizzeebeever/scripts/patrol.js" );
//put this line in your <skin>.js file and then refresh your cache
Each unpatrolled edit shows up with a "patrol" link; grouped edits have a single "patrol these changes" link; and changes to new, unpatrolled pages have a "patrol all changes to this page" link which you can find by expanding the group and looking for the initial (page-creating) edit. ~ BB ~ (T) Icons-flag-usSat, Jul 14 '12 2:37 (UTC)
Ah - I had grouped edits turned off, so was missing a couple of things. That should make things a little easier. Should be able to now patrol an entire page history for pages that are now good (like features, user pages/talk pages, etc).                               Puppy's talk page03:38 14 Jul

Sorry I haven't have the time to write much and use your pic, but I certainly will sooner or later and nom it then. BTW, was the great pic you did for the Mexico article featured? I hope so, but can't remember seeing it on the frontpage. Also, the title Why? Elephant never forget seems alright to me, since elephants is already taken (and it is a great one BTW! Fade-in and fade-out

--such as when I expand or dismiss a detailed listing in the JavaScript extension to RecentChanges. Is this animation a result of my recent browser upgrade, or the MediaWiki upgrade, or is this some sorcery of yours? I am offended by my processor expending cycles on such Glitz. How do I turn it off, please? Spıke ¬ 16:22 22-Jul-12

Are you talking about when you expand a group of changes? I use Opera, and I'm not seeing any fade or animation; it's definitely not due to my code. I don't care for silly frills like that, but it is extremely easy to do with jQuery, so it's tempting to use. How to turn it off? There probably isn't a way.  ~ BB ~ (T) Icons-flag-usMon, Jul 23 '12 1:45 (UTC)

Yes, that is what I'm talking about. Thanks for the reply. Spıke ¬ 02:55 23-Jul-12

About the fade effect: I WAS WRONG, as detailed here (boy, do I feel stupid). Try putting this code in your <skin>.js file: = true;
If that doesn't work, try wrapping it in an onReady callback function, like so:
$( document ).ready( function() { = true; } )
Hope this helps. ~ BB ~ (T) Icons-flag-usMon, Jul 23 '12 18:28 (UTC)

Ok. Let me check with a couple of other people first for testing purposes, and I may also tweak the code a bit. I don't have any older browsers for testing, and I also don't have a Google+ account. I'll get back to you when they're done testing. Oh, and as a side question: are there any pages this shouldn't be included on? Right now, I've got it excluded from the MediaWiki and Special namespaces; however, might there be instances where you'd want to be able to share even them? Share box changes - much better interface.                               Puppy's talk page02:52 28 Jul
Thanks. Keep trying it out, and it'll soon be in the site's main script. I may tidy it up a bit first, though. I tried to make it modular, so we could include more than one button on a page, and with different options, but that may be needlessly complex. ~ BB ~ (T) Icons-flag-usSun, Jul 29 '12 1:28 (UTC)
It does annoying things with the edit window active. Can we have it inactive on ?action=edit or ?action=submit pages. I can see a point (vaguely) on ?action=history, but on ?action=move could prove more problematic.                               Puppy's talk page01:51 29 Jul
Done. Now go here, and then do a hard reload of that page only (SHIFT+F5 or CTRL+F5). Should be all you need to do. ~ BB ~ (T) Icons-flag-usSun, Jul 29 '12 2:26 (UTC)

My love

Your share tab is awsome. I like the colour and placement. The only thing is, every time I go to scroll down, I usually hover the mouse over the tab (really quickly) and it opens up and stays opened. I suggest doing two things:

  1. Unless the mouse stays in the vecinity of the tab, it should close back
  2. Only open the tab with a click.

Or something like that. Otherwise its awsome and Im sure the community will be happy with it. --ShabiDOO 02:54, August 6, 2012 (UTC)

You're the second person who's said that; however, there's just one slight issue with hovering: if you try to move over the facebook or google+ bubble that pops up when you click them, the tab closes, and takes the bubble with it. I was going to make it click-only, but I thought with a mouseover, people would be more likely to actually use it. Oh, well. I'll see if I can fix it for hovering. ~ BB ~ (T) Icons-flag-usMon, Aug 6 '12 3:24 (UTC)
Yes. Heartbreakingly frightening decisions have to be made, to ensure awsomeness. I'm sure whatever you do will be cool. Any idea of when it might be site wide enacted? --ShabiDOO 03:44, August 6, 2012 (UTC)

Busted script bis

Derived from a previous discussion above

A script on RecentChanges is busted. Takes forever to run, finally asks me if I want to abort out, and never gets to your work (unless it's your work that is failing). Script:*:106 Spıke ¬ 14:40 23-Jul-12

That's weird. That appears to be our new version of jQuery. I have no idea how to fix it, but you can probably #BlameWikia.  ~ BB ~ (T) Icons-flag-usMon, Jul 23 '12 18:28 (UTC)

The RecentChanges script no longer takes so long that Mozilla thinks it has hung, but it's still damned slow. Spıke ¬ 14:40 26-Jul-12

Time to upgrade the IBM 386, dude. ~ BB ~ (T) Icons-flag-usFri, Jul 27 '12 15:13 (UTC)

I only have two of those and neither one is on the Internet. My browser is at 1GHz or so. My RecentChanges is set to 200 entries and, depending on the quality of the connection, the above script still times out before it gives me any way to patrol changes. Spıke ¬ 00:19 11-Aug-12

Since the first time you asked, I discovered that the issue is caused by the new "enhanced recent changes" implementation. It uses the custom plugin jQuery.makeCollapsible(), which works OK for things like navboxes, but when it's used on 200 or more elements, it's garbage. I've heard complaints about it from numerous people, including Wikipedia members. The fix is really, really simple: remove the mw-collapsible CSS class from ChangesList.php, write a new style rule, and then write a new onclick handler using However, as we don't have server access, there's no way for me to fix it directly. Another idea: I might be able to hack jQuery.makeCollapsible() to ignore recentChanges elements, since it waits until document.ready to loop through the page. No promises, though. ~ BB ~ (T) Icons-flag-usSat, Aug 11 '12 8:39 (UTC)

If you want to publish your picture without restricting anyone's use of it, "Release all rights" will do. If you want to attach conditions, such as that users acknowledge it as your work, one of the Licenses in the list may be right, but I'll leave details on that to others. Spıke ¬ 20:45 31-Aug-12
