Hello and welcome to my talkpage! I am on holiday, so I probably won't be able to answer you immediately after you post a message, but you can still ask for or about anything and I will surely answer when I come back. Meanwhile, you can do anything you wish with any of my pages, articles or anything else, or even start a chess match at User:Anton199/Games. See you soon! I hope you are "tanned, rested, and ready" (as was said of Richard Nixon) to liven up this joint. If you are still on vacation and merely ducked into a cyber-café, never mind. Spıke ¬ 11:42 28-Jul-14

Hi Spike! How are you? Where's everyone else? No, I am actually back (and for the good, I hope). There are so many articles I need to work on, that I think I won't be able to take another Uncyclopedia holiday, even if I wished to take one (which I don't wish, by the way). By the way, have you noticed how Spike starts using indentation, when he has access to high-speed Internet! Anton (talk) Uncyclopedia United 18:19, July 29, 2014 (UTC)

The reason I usually pick a margin and stick with it is not the lack of speed of my internet but the lack of width of my monitors. The reason I didn't, above, is that I was replying to Scott's digression and not continuing the original conversation. The reason I don't, just now, is that you took it. Spıke ¬ 18:59 29-Jul-14

I guess it was accidental, but I might be wrong, because it's Puppy who wrote that. It's basically his article - what I did was to change the page's formatting and to write responses to all the scam letters that are there. Anton (talk) Uncyclopedia United 16:01, July 30, 2014 (UTC)

What do you call "real France" then? There is Ile-de-France (with Paris in the middle) and the rest are independent regions. Anton (talk) Uncyclopedia United 17:11, August 7, 2014 (UTC)
Real France are all the bits of France that have never been under the English Crown. Well, and what about the half-German Alsace-Lorraine? And the Spanish south-west? And the Alpes regions, which are so different from the rest of France, so that they can be considered a different country? Real France is probably a tiny region then. Or you can take another approach and say that this mix of cultures and history is what makes up the real France. Anton (talk) Uncyclopedia United 12:55, August 10, 2014 (UTC)
Nonsense, nonsense. They are French as much as Ile-de-France is French. Catalonia in Spain is basically French and thanks to Charlemagne, Germany is also basically France. Have you not read and/or seen Henry V? "No King of England, if not King of France." It would be a bit hard to hold up a claim to all of France so we just pretend he meant the English French parts and not the real French parts. edit HowTo:Repair a broken smartphone‎

Even in the HowTo: space, I would lighten up on the first person. This at times is not so much a guy writing a HowTo: but a guy chatting with his mother about how it felt to write a HowTo:. In my opinion, the main reason to insert yourself so far into an article (or break any other canon rule) is to take advantage of the fact that the reader is not expecting it in the least. Spıke ¬ 23:31 9-Aug-14

Do you mean I should strike him with that at the beginning or keep the general tone for as long as possible? I am currently working on it with user Argylesocks on the other side of the channel and I hope to bring the changes here when it's ready! Anton (talk) Uncyclopedia United 12:47, August 10, 2014 (UTC)

I mean you should drop self-referencing unless there is a damned good reason to use it. If there is, starting in the Intro may inform the reader of your comedy strategy, but might also remove the element of surprise. If you know this article wasn't complete, you should not have nominated it. Nor if you are acting as a proxy for a user offsite. Spıke ¬ 13:20 10-Aug-14

Oh, no. I thought it was complete. Then Argylesocks started working on it, and so it's now a collaboration. I still think it's a readable prequel to HowTo:Fry an egg (and hence, the first person), but it's improving elsewhere and I don't want to keep on copying and pasting it while it changes. I'll do it once it's ready there.

I am also not working as a proxy, and my "I hope" was because I am not entirely sure he'll consent to me bringing the changes here. But I hope he does. And, well if not, then I guess this one is still readable, though it might not be featured. Anton (talk) Uncyclopedia United 13:49, August 10, 2014 (UTC)

I liked the Mister Ed show picture and replaced it with a similar photo, that I think is as funny. Qwikster could be adapted into the a section, but I didn't get what A.D.A. stood for. I did a copy-edit of it. I think that, by this section, the horse Flicka (my attempt to bend the early TV show My Friend Flicka to the name of the company) has exceeded its usefulness. Your section is useful in conveying the perverseness of Netflix's encouragement of TV addiction, but the current text doesn't quite overcome my problem that it's not based on anything real (or at Wikipedia) the way the rest of the article is. Separately, the final paragraph reads like an UnNews. (Would that be a Review?) Spıke ¬ 01:03 25-Aug-14

Yes. Don't know what to do about the fact that it's made-up, but I removed Flicka as a producer and deleted the UnNews-like sentence. I am going to nominate it on VFH now, because I think overall the article is ready and your parts are great! Anton (talk) Uncyclopedia United 12:36, August 25, 2014 (UTC)

edit UnSignpost:Article/HMC, PLS and other abbreviations

Why don't you see if you can find a comedy strategy for this article other than an Uncyclopedian who has closed his account across Wikia, a link to that user's page, the Terms of Use, the goings-on on other wikis, an invitation for readers to try to find said other wikis, and the resulting effect on "the spirits of pro-reuniting Uncyclopedians," that is, on you? Otherwise, it is a small part news, small part humor, and large part advocacy. The news is your Forum inventorying our past competitions and the promise of new future ones, and there is plenty to make fun of there! Spıke ¬ 17:47 27-Aug-14

So you can't make fun of anything? Just joking. I've done my best at polishing it, but there are some things I can't remove about the HMC, and as it was the biggest event this summer, I think we should talk about it. Anton (talk) Uncyclopedia United 20:40, August 27, 2014 (UTC)

edit Cutters on VFD

And another thing: Is this one patched up enough to survive now? Spıke ¬ 21:40 27-Aug-14

I cannot be the best advisor for you here, as I am uncomfortable with the subject in general and with how this article treats it. It has probably improved, and some lines are funny, but as Sannse said I think it's still quite disturbing. Thanks for removing the picture of a cut, though! Anton (talk) Uncyclopedia United 22:01, August 27, 2014 (UTC)

This was the photo's only use and it's off the website. You think the article is disturbing? or the subject?! (Rhetorical question, you need not answer.) Spıke ¬ 22:04 27-Aug-14

Ah, grammar again! Anton (talk) Uncyclopedia United 22:08, August 27, 2014 (UTC)

No, not grammar! I would not try to save this mediocre article except that it seems it's one of those cases where Sannse (who once wanted us to add the Suicide Prevention freephone to Suicide) (and perhaps you) are more offended by the topic than by our treatment of it. We ought not do that without seeing whether it's possible to have fun with it. Spıke ¬ 22:12 27-Aug-14

Both then? I shouldn't have used "it", as it can refer to both the article and the topic. Well, if I was writing that article (which I would never do), I would have tried not to make an accent on the cutters but on everything they are surrounded with, or the issues they face, or how people react to them. For instance, "the emotional and physical pain it is believed that the cutters experience is exaggerated. Usually, these teenagers only have to deal with bad marks at school, home punishment, minor illness, unserious bullying, mild depression or accidental pedophilia." Anton (talk) Uncyclopedia United 22:33, August 27, 2014 (UTC)

Yeah, many weren't that good. I don't know what to do with Oscars, though. An entire rewrite is probably needed. The author had some interesting opinions, but not jokes, and didn't manage to write an encyclopedic article.

Following Romartus's A.P.B. in the Forum, would you care to tug Caliphate in any additional directions? Spıke ¬ 18:36 3-Sep-14

I don't know much about the Caliphate, so I added a section about Russia. You may judge. By the way, I liked the article very much! Anton (talk) Uncyclopedia United 16:56, September 5, 2014 (UTC)

This is difficult, as Russia at the moment is roughly comparable to the Caliphate (as in my "two for the price of one" comment in the Intro) and at risk from it in the South — but not uniquely so, as the Caliphate has global pretensions. When I was repairing Turban, I had "help" from someone who wanted the list of "Turbans in country    " to be complete. To stay, it needs a clear comedy theme. Even a ridiculous one would work, as Romartus seemed to think the article was getting too bogged down (surely by me) with real-world comparisons. Spıke ¬ 17:01 5-Sep-14

I would leave Russia off this for now (I guess you meant the Chechens?). It was more of a placeholder article but Spike has fleshed it out. Caliphate, like the notorious porn novel Naked Came the Stranger, is plenty effective at its intended purpose but obviously written by committee. Given ISIL, here is the history; here we are taking it in two directions; here is a pro forma summary. But does the article have a core holding it together? Am I just too aware of the call for a group effort? Perhaps this is because Romartus's finish, even as rephrased, remains noncommital. Spıke ¬ 03:27 8-Sep-14

I don't know. Maybe. I haven't read the entire page, but I loves the intro, the images, the concept behind the article in general, the board game idea and a lot of jokes throughout the text. Normally, this would be sufficient for me to vote for it, if it was on VFH. But it's as you and Romartus wish. Anton (talk) Uncyclopedia United 06:01, September 11, 2014 (UTC)

You haven't read the entire page? Why don't you do that and maybe you'll find you can do more than vote for it, and less than maneuver me into a self-nom! After that, we'll be happy to have you catch up on VFD! Spıke ¬ 21:30 12-Sep-14

Do you think it's another bug and I should open a forum about this?
The fact that I found out about a user being confused, can be attributed to my gift for clairvoyance. Thanks for the review! It's really appreciated. I've never actually formatted a wiki before, I just carefully read over the instructions and looked at other article sources so I got a clear idea of what to do. Ive also read a lot of articles over the years that I have known about Uncyclopedia and that gave me an idea of how themes and humor worked. But I'm glad you enjoyed it.

  • I didn't really think of who the narrator was. I just sort of assumed the role of someone on a Public Service Announcement or something.
  • When I initially wrote the moon joke, it was basically just a joke on how ridiculous it would be for there to be a moon on a sunny day and that you were screwed if that happened, but I really like your idea of a red moon. In fact I may just use that and expand it a bit. thanks!
  • I also agree with the recurring " stay indoors". I hated myself for writing that on nearly every section, I'm no thesaurus. But I think I'll fix that up a bit.

Once again, thanks, and I'm glad that you enjoyed my first article. Know one knows (talk) 12:56, September 27, 2014 (UTC)

I like the additions. Public Service Announcement is a good idea, but try hinting to it, so even after the introduction the reader can think - "That's probably someone from the Public Service Announcement talking!". Concerning the repetitions, that's probably the most difficult part, but doing what you did just now really helps.
Another thing: you could try playing with subtlety. You could a very implicit reference to, say, rape and then talking about it in an as explicit way as possible. Same goes with swearing. Sometimes, uttering a curse or saying "sex" may chase away a reader, sometimes, when done cleverly, it could get his attention. For instance, in the last paragraph - "Sooner or later, the world will attempt to fuck us. Either that or your neighbor will." - is a very good pun! At the same time, "Another poor soul succumbed to a porn overload." might be a bit too blunt.
Oh, and concerning the last phrase. You chose your images well, but I would reconsider having that one (where a guy passed out). Although the person in question might not be dead, it still may seem disturbing to the reader. On the rest, very good job! Anton (talk) Uncyclopedia United 14:36, September 27, 2014 (UTC)
It's great now! Anton (talk) Uncyclopedia United 15:46, September 27, 2014 (UTC)

edit Greggs

How do you like it now? Spıke ¬ 19:13 17-Oct-14

PS--Thanks for adding a pointer to our recent drama and publicity, which I post-edited. In the text, you changed my motto "Scones for scum" to something else. Unless this is a play on a real-world motto, I'd prefer consistency with the Infobox. Regarding your change to the Infobox, "Everywhere where" can be minced to "Everywhere" — and even then, the result strikes me as self-evident and not funny. Spıke ¬ 20:29 17-Oct-14

Maybe 'Always where you don't want it' could go in the infobox under Location instead of what you have now. The phrase seems worth including somewhere, but that's just me. -– Llwy-ar-lawr talk contribs 23:53 17 Oct 2014
It doesn't strike me as any funnier than the motto, "I don't like it" whereas mine will resonate to readers who remember what the "motto" used to be. Spıke ¬ 23:59 17-Oct-14
The actual Greggs motto, which I tried to parody, is "Always fresh. Always tasty." Your edits were a good improvement and I just didn't like the way English peasant, the previous author, assumed that Greggs' clients were "scum" without making a joke about it. Your motto is certainly funnier than the previous one, but it kept the "scum" idea, and I thought that a parody closer to reality might be more suitable. However, I liked the gluten idea you ran throughout the article.
Llwy: thanks for the suggestion, I'll try to integrate it. Anton (talk) Uncyclopedia United 15:33, October 18, 2014 (UTC)

"Without making a joke about it" is the key phrase. Now knowing the real motto, I withdraw my objection — but, yes, do make the Infobox match, and Llwy is right, it fits better as "Location" than having a field that simply parallels the text. Spıke ¬ 15:38 18-Oct-14

Thanks! Anton (talk) Uncyclopedia United 15:42, October 18, 2014 (UTC)

PS--I don't see no "gluten"! And besides, that's Simsie's bête noir, not mine. Spıke ¬ 15:48 18-Oct-14

edit Uncyclopedia usage

That was a thoroughly depressing graph you posted nearby. However, it seems to refute the frequent claim that Uncyclopedia's decline is a result of my elevation to Admin. It is worse than that; the precipitous drop-off coincides with mid-2009, when I started to write articles here. Spıke ¬ 13:27 22-Oct-14

Ah! I see. Well, I hope this doesn't discourage you from writing articles!
And just in case you were partly serious - you can compare the trends for Uncyclopedia and Encyclopedia Dramatica, and see that theirs also started to fall around 2009. Wikipedia's interested volume started falling a bit later (at the beginning of 2010). Something happened back then, that suddenly made all the wikis less interesting! Perhaps, Facebook's growing popularity? Anton (talk) Uncyclopedia United 19:17, October 22, 2014 (UTC)

Was not serious! I agree that new modes of self-expression have emerged: Twitter for "writers" who can't write, and Facebook for communicators who don't care about communicating with anyone. Wikipedia noticed the fall-off and raced out the Visual Editor, as Wikia did too though I don't see any recent progress. Markup language and the need to write for an "encyclopedia" or a "news service" suits me as well as my several other outlets for broadcasting to tiny audiences for no pay! Spıke ¬ 20:06 22-Oct-14

Could you provide an image of or link to this graph please? Sir ScottPat (converse) White Ensign Scotland Flag 1 Compassrose VFH UnS NotM WotM WotY 09:10, October 23, 2014 (UTC)
Here. Anton (talk) Uncyclopedia United 16:19, October 23, 2014 (UTC)

Well! that's probably the last we will hear of him. Anton199, do notify me if the graph falls below zero. Spıke ¬ 17:57 23-Oct-14

OK, sure. Anton (talk) Uncyclopedia United 18:34, October 23, 2014 (UTC)
2009? To me the graph looks as it's been steadily falling off since 2007. The explanation I've heard for that is that our URL changed, but that was in 2008. I also get the sense that Uncyclopedia has been declining internally since 2011 and that it has nothing to do with Spike. -– Llwy-ar-lawr talk contribs 18:47 23 Oct 2014
