edit Equestria Girls

Thanks for actual feedback on VFD; I have trimmed the plot a tiny bit. (The hashish "joke" was ill-advised.) The use of {{Wikipedia}} indicates that it is best enjoyed in comparison to the actual plot.

Regarding the remaining entry in this flurry of nominations, can you suggest new directions for the smallish Barf? The illustrations and Frequently Asked Questions are from before I worked on it, but even the FAQ still strikes me as funny in many different ways. Spıke Ѧ 13:30 9-Dec-14

Yeah, it's good, although I don't get the point of the first picture. Sorry, but I don't think I can contribute to it personally due to my tastes (and maybe principles). However, if you need an idea, I think it'll be interesting to look how it's portrayed in movies. For some reason of which I am unaware, it seems like it's becoming one of the essential part of a blockbuster alongside blood and nudity, and not only. You can see plenty of that right now in cinema, even though in many cases (like blood and nudity) it's really unnecessary. Anton (talk) 19:18, December 9, 2014 (UTC)

I don't get the point of the first picture either (It's from a fan-art blogsite) but I sure don't have a better one, so I focused on its caption instead. I was unaware of the emergence of barf in the popular cinema. (I must be watching the wrong movies.) (Is it time for you to archive?) Spıke Ѧ 19:31 9-Dec-14

Apparently (but I haven't seen the movie), Pulp Fiction started the trend. And yes, I will archive. Anton (talk) 19:39, December 9, 2014 (UTC)

Your wish is my command! It is now your move. Spıke Ѧ 20:18 9-Dec-14

It is still your move, by which I mean replace the initial photo if you have a better idea, and/or vote to save it on VFD. Spıke Ѧ 04:19 12-Dec-14

Are you allowed to mae an article for TAW here and then copy and paste it into the spoon and enter it into the spoon TAW (and win twice)? Sir TheWikiMan026 CUN,UmP, (Chatter) Norn Iron Flag 20:58, December 20, 2014 (UTC)

edit Slut shaming

My word, this is turgid.

  • The title. I have never heard of "slut shaming," probably because "slut" itself is a vague term of shaming — and by the way, Uncyclopedia has a gaping hole at Slut (currently a redirect), where some of these points could be made. The subtle redundancy in this title doesn't suggest a laugh riot; it strikes me like Trying hard (Olympic sport) or perhaps War of the Foolish Generals.
  • The structure. This doesn't seem to be an encyclopedia article. It could be an oral dissertation, as it refers to its own text and to the readers repeatedly. It seems to be an exposition of an opinion.
  • The Intro does not promise the reader mirth, but perhaps the chance to find some humor if he studies it long enough. Unless the joke about the first sentence is its own ponderous language, it doesn't do the job. "Turtle to all morality"? I will have to think about this and get back to you. But putting the relative importance of aspects of slut shaming into priority (sigh!) is something you might do at the end but ought not do at the start. "It should not be forgotten, however, that it is also perceived by many as..."? Click!
  • The humor. I guess the strategies are that: (1) "Slut" is subjective; (2) use of the term slimes the user as much as the object; and (3) no one is slutty if she puts out with me. But there is a lot between the reader and the humor.
  • The source. UnNewses get to use them, as we don't all read the same news; the encyclopedia ought not to, especially because the humor should leap off the page and not be on some other page. I followed the footnote to The Independent and found a news article that ought not even be the source for an UnNews, as it is Weird News that provides very much of the humor, whereas the Uncyclopedia article makes a well-encoded side point about it.

I'll try simplifying the Intro without changing the essence (except for, perhaps, "turtle to all morality"). But, as I said repeatedly to Irritable of contents, "write jokes, not riddles." Spıke Ѧ 21:02 27-Dec-14

Thanks for the comments! Slut shaming is a pretty new concept, but something many people are familiar with nowadays. If you are interested, Wikipedia has an article about it. The idea of shaming a woman who behaves indecently is not new, however, and that's what I was investigating
I get your point about the intro, but the "turtle" is there for a purpose: if you hear about slut shaming nowadays, it will be used in the same way people use the words "racism" or "sexism". It's become a label, not always applicable where it's used but always being extremely pejorative. The turtle is a joke, saying that our society stands on such things. Of course, there is a grain of truth there, and a large one, but every joke has a truthful part to it, and I'm trying to show both sides. Anton (talk) 13:22, December 28, 2014 (UTC)
By the way, concerning your humour point(s), the first two are accurate, but for the third one, what I said was not that "a woman is not a slut if she puts out with me", or with the reader, but that for the person shaming the 'slut', she probably becomes such the moment she refuses to put out with him. What I am really trying to find out is why anyone would take part in slut shaming. This is what I found. The joke is in the false reasoning used to deny that.

That kind of reasoning, actually:

  1. A cheap horse is rare to find.
  2. Rare things are always expensive.
  3. Therefore, a cheap horse is expensive.

Anton (talk) 13:32, December 28, 2014 (UTC)

"Turtle" may be there for a purpose; this reader simply cannot discern it. Yes; I did not mean "a woman is not a slut if she puts out with me" (the supposed writer of the article) but me (the person doing the shaming). I have looked at the Wikipedia article ("part of a series on Discrimination," yikes!), still cannot find Turtle, and think that an Uncyclopedia article that mostly tries to call attention to the illogic of other people (at Wikipedia: to induce them to make decisions that strike us as nicer) is advocacy, unless it also offers a lot more. Spıke Ѧ 13:37 28-Dec-14

But, Spike, you are asking for impossible things! Of course, I do have an opinion, and the only things I can see myself doing with it is either distancing myself from it and making fun of it, or making fun of the opposite opinion. I chose the latter, by showing all the absurdity of our society hand by hand with real examples (a Cambridge professor called a 'slut' or many teenage girls killing themselves after being 'shamed' by the Internet for posting indiscreet material). At the same time, I am not giving my opinion openly in the article. If I said that all our society relies on racism (which is not entirely true, but has a grain of truth to it, considering the role of racism in various cultures), it would just seem absurd. The fun thing would be if the reader was really convinced by my (absurd) arguments, and would fall in the trap laid out to him. Anton (talk) 13:49, December 28, 2014 (UTC)

We are here to make fun of things, and I do suggest (at CoW#Extremists) that you avail yourself of making fun of all sides, or at least lighten it up with entertaining choice of words, as I am trying to do to it, as opposed to the serious business of corralling your reader into his own inconsistency; this "fun" is self-amusement, not reader amusement. Spıke Ѧ 13:54 28-Dec-14

But there are different types of fun. Thanks for your edits, by the way! They are funny, but if you permit, I think my version also has an amusing choice of words. For instance, "men never shame the 'sluts' they are in bed with, for as long as they are in bed with them" is pretty successful, in my opinion. Anton (talk) 14:21, December 28, 2014 (UTC)
I think I looked through all of your additions and cuts! Thanks again! You did not necessarily preserve the style in some places, but your choice of words is amusing and entertaining, all the same. Some of my phrases are not very encyclopedic, I am well aware, but I think a bit of it won't harm the article too much, and will just liven it up, when juxtaposed to yours. Anton (talk) 14:25, December 28, 2014 (UTC)

If the "different types of fun" were a justification, we would still enshrine pages that celebrate the fun of making an unwilling reader view photos of feces. Now, I keep stumbling on phrases you have inserted into the article to demonstrate that you don't hold the opinions you are writing about. This hurts readability, and ultimately, we don't care whether you do or don't; proclaim your innocence on the talk page! I had no problem in the article Genevieve Gorder (Won't. You. Bend. Over. A. Little. Further.) if the reader thought that I were the lecher. You become the actor playing the murderer who needs to come to the front of the stage and explain to the crowd that you don't really approve of what is happening. Spıke Ѧ 14:58 28-Dec-14

I guess I had to make sure I was not the real murderer for the sake of my own conscience! Your edits are very nice, in any case. Is there anything else needing to be done? Also, if the page is going to be featured, we should divide the HOS credits! Anton (talk) 17:36, December 29, 2014 (UTC)
"Uncyclopedia has a gaping hole at Slut" Double meaning? Sir ScottPat (converse) White Ensign Scotland Flag 1 Compassrose VFH UnS NotM WotM WotY 16:01, December 28, 2014 (UTC)
No, triple! Anton (talk) 17:36, December 29, 2014 (UTC)

The pun was intentional, but a third meaning I do not see. On HOS credit, I'm undecided. This was an unusually muscular (and necessary) copy-edit, including a total dry-cleaning of the Intro, but all the concepts are yours except my section on Origins. However, I took half of the loot in Cheka and this case is pretty similar. Spıke Ѧ 16:18 1-Jan-15

edit UnSignpost

It is with great regret that I must officially resign from my position of Chief Editor of UnSignpost. As the other Chief Editor I ask you to accept my resignation. I do not have the time (as has been shown recently) to keep this branch of Uncyclopedia operational. If you wish to continue running it (I notice you have not contributed much recently either) I am happy to maintain a position of editor and write for it occasionally. If not then may I suggest we close it down for good until another user steps forward. Sir ScottPat (converse) White Ensign Scotland Flag 1 Compassrose VFH UnS NotM WotM WotY 11:18, December 29, 2014 (UTC)

Ah, I don't know! Thanks for telling me, anyway. I am not very active there, because I find that when the ship is sinking, the crew should be saved first and not the ship log. (Just joking, Spike!) I'll open a forum to get volunteers. Anton (talk) 17:39, December 29, 2014 (UTC)
No offense taken, as what you are saying is that one should use diminished resources wisely. Your Article Whisperer competition has resulted in a lot of good editing and the return of some recently inactive editors (or else, it has convinced them not to write articles until the start date of the competition). For the same reason, I would not broadcast the need for a new editor -- we seem to have no energy even to bandy words at Forums -- but to hold it to your vest as something that could be offered to some promising new sucker. I hope you both will be around to help the eventual editor through the technical obstacles.
Back to the competition, you are free to offer a five-day delay to an entrant in the category you are judging, as you can respond by judging that particular entry in two days rather than the seven allowed. But I would not have done so. The unavoidable (I assume) absence for the long weekend could have been obviated easily by just finishing the article before going on vacation. I am betting that the transaction will prove that it is far easier to beg for a special exception than to Man up and start writing, and I will double the bet that there will be no contest entry as a result. Spıke Ѧ 16:28 1-Jan-15
I won't bet on anything, as though I agree that what you are proposing is the way many writers would have acted, I have no will to interfere in a situation I know nothing about. So I guess, let's just wait and see!

Back to the ships, I'll take your advice on the UnSignpost. "One should use diminished resources wisely" is indeed what I meant to say. Oh, and concerning resources, you reminded me of several New Year tasks I needed to fulfill. Anton (talk) 16:51, January 1, 2015 (UTC)

Do you really want to remove the See also? Yes, it's ranty and angry--but very much aligned with the rest of the article. (For more, listen to old Sam Kinison ex-wife stand-up comedy.) Spıke Ѧ 19:38 1-Jan-15

Ok, I added it back. Anton (talk) 08:25, January 3, 2015 (UTC)

“Mr. Chairman, I have in my hand a piece of paper with 12 Spike features.”

My count at User:SPIKE also includes three half-credit collaborations — two with you, as your edit of your user page reminds me.

Separately, welcome back and thank you for taking The Article Whisperer by the horns! I'll have to change the Sitenotice now, to do something other than nag you. Next week it is back to the big football game between Simsie's team and my team, Simsie paying somewhat less attention than I am. Spıke Ѧ 18:27 23-Jan-15

edit STFU

This article was a catalog of shoops from the web that contained the key phrase and initial quotations of people who might utter it. I got rid of these, but all that is left is a snippet of "I guess you had to be there" IRC chat. Can you conceive of a funny concept for this one? It ought not simply be VFD'd because of course it's linked to from everywhere. Spıke Ѧ 16:20 21-Feb-15

Uhm. I'm not sure I'm the appropriate person to rewrite this article, considering I hate teenage Internet slang almost as much as Russian swearing, but I'll try. Anton (talk) 20:34, February 21, 2015 (UTC)

I understand; and yet, that fact about you may mean you are exactly the right person to turn it into something more than an "article in the style of the thing it's about." Good luck! Spıke Ѧ 00:51 22-Feb-15

Hi Hamsaphina! I am definitely interested in helping you, especially if you feel like it's very important for you! Just, I won't be available tomorrow, but this week-end (at the latest) I'll be able to get back to you and see precisely what I can offer. So you're saying you have problems with "teching"? If you don't know how to format an article, don't worry, because no one does at first, unless you've already spent several months on a wiki! Most important, don't let this discourage you. You can start an article in your userspace (at User:Hamsaphina/An article, for example), where the proper formatting won't be essential.

Concerning "I am not funny", well, despite not knowing you well, I can assure you of the contrary! In a day or two, I'll give you more precise feedback, but right now just know that the will is often more than enough, even if you don't have proper talents (and which I seriously doubt). So see you again soon!Anton (talk) 21:25, March 11, 2015 (UTC)

I have seen how to be funny and not just stupid and the format article, I usually just copy and paste an article then delete all the non formatted article so it has a wikipedia look without having to go back to the format page every ten seconds. I really just need a little guidance on what articles I should write, what did wrong, and what I did right. Maybe brainstorm some ideas, not really sure. Thanks for getting back to me! Hamsaphina (talk) 19:13, March 12, 2015 (UTC)

Oh, hi! Have I not said hi to you yet? It's very nice to meet you - despite being quite absent recently, I still saw how active you are. So very nice job! It's also very nice to know that there are enthusiastic new writers walking in our halls. UnNews in general is not my field of expertise, usually unless they concern Russia, but if you'd like a review, some feedback and suggestions on any particular work, or just any question about Uncyclopedia, I'm more than willing to help you! Anton (talk) 21:19, March 13, 2015 (UTC)

Cheers Anton! I see you are a pee'er, when I'm perhaps a bit more experienced, I'll have a go at a pee review. It is good to give something back. If you are interested, my first full Uncyclopedia piece Project Gemini, done with Spike, is up. It was great fun - would be happy for any comments or tips to develop further. I am toying with the idea of something on the Russian Space Program from the same era - perhaps a different angle, don't know yet. Also up for collaborations. --EStop (talk) 08:35, March 17, 2015 (UTC)

Oh, sure, thanks for the proposal! And will check your Russian Space Program page... I'll get back to you, but not too soon - just found out I have something like several dozen things to do before this week-end ends. Anton (talk) 17:02, March 21, 2015 (UTC)

edit Cheka

I think we decided to split Cheka down the middle, but your Hall of Shame entry omits your half.

Also, though UnNews is hopping, the encyclopedia is languishing. Does your schedule call for another fun competition? A time limit these days would be pushing it, but I like the ones where the Cabal assigns titles. I am fine with contestants swapping them. We had a handful of eager competitors last time, and they would be back, but not without a good excuse. I promise to stay on the sidelines and not hog the medals this time. Spıke Ѧ 00:22 19-Mar-15

Thank you, you reminded me of that! I'll most certainly try planning something, but can't promise, unfortunately - every event requires a decent amount of messages sent all around, updates and daily input, which I'm afraid I can't able to offer right now... There are even tasks back from the beginning of the year that I was supposed to do and never did. Also, I will add the Cheka 1/2, thanks! Anton (talk) 17:06, March 21, 2015 (UTC)

dear Antonn199, with aldo respect, i think that the funny part is that the line after saying THAT IT IS ACCORDING TO THE 1.5th amendment and that Obama does not know about it is so obviously false. (a month ago i would agree with you but i got used to my friends joke type)

See my answer to your first message on your talkpage! Indeed, it was obvious that it was false. My point is not everything obviously false is funny. For example, Russian war-time propaganda concerning the conflict in Ukraine is obviously false to most people having access to outside sources and/or critical thinking, but it is only funny to very few. Once again, the problem with your line isn't that it's true or false, but that it seems to come out of nowhere and disappears without providing any context or explanation. Which raises a lot of why? questions. I am not rekecting your idea altogether, just asking you to take some time working on it, if you think it has potential. Also, even though it's very respectful and kind of you, you don't have to address others "Dear username", here, we're often being very informal! :) Cheers! Anton (talk) 23:48, August 4, 2015 (UTC)

edit UnNews:Beachfront prophet espouses feminism

I'm afraid this new story fails to fire on all cylinders. Regarding the headline, someone's concern doesn't sound like news. A newsy aspect, perhaps, is the sudden emergence of a new Muslim prophet.

But almost all the humor (which is the humor of shock) appears in the Source, that the man would let his daughter die out of his adherence to an abstraction. Most of what your article does is change the tone into advocacy toward the man. This is absurd but renders it even less newsy.

The paragraph just below the section heading reminds me of our work on Slut shaming. Much of it serves only to immunize yourself, to prove to the reader that you don't really believe that this inhumanity is inherent to Islam. However, the Source, if it suggests anything, suggests that indeed it is — and even if it isn't, the assertion that it is would be funnier (even if it involved the article writer leading the reader to the obvious and then feeling the need to deny it). Another similarity with the old version of Slut shaming is that the sentence structure is extremely complex. Also, the sentences that reference UnNews itself could be written not to do so and this would be more realistic.

The quip that, if the daughter survived, she would have to undergo a "mercy killing" is thoroughly absurd and ought to be your finalé. (Compare the non-Muslim "witch hunts" in colonial Massachusetts. Catch-22.) Spıke Radiomicrophone22:44 10-Aug-15

PS--The part of the "sermon" in which the prophet says the victim should have taken matters into her own hands (when he would not) goes beyond absurdity to incoherence. Does the man believe what he is "teaching" or not? This is either too much twisting to make things fit, or you see something that you haven't communicated yet. Spıke Radiomicrophone22:56 10-Aug-15

Ok, thanks for all the comments! I changed the finalé per your suggestion.
I was shocked to my core yesterday to hear the man's story in the news. I mean, he actually fought against the life guards to prevent his daughter from being saved! What beliefs could justify just an act? Islam, despite being strict with women in many of its interpretations, still would not approve of murder. A truly religious man, contrary to a fanatic, as a philosopher once explained to me, knows that a religious text is first of all a symbol, a metaphor, that should not be taken literally. Whether based on religious or social beliefs, the man's action was utter fanaticism, as well as stupidity, which is what I tried to satirize, by turning him into self-confident prophet (which I can easily imagine him considering himself as). I don't know if my interpretation was too absurd; the reality definitely is. About the honor killing, despite it being a speculation, I think a man who went so far to prevent his daughter from being saved would most probably be ready to kill her, if she survived. Thus, again, my comedy criticism: That your parody is not much more than the reality. Conservative talk radio here dwells on a news story in Saudi Arabia in which the devout impeded firefighters as a girls' school burned down. Deaf parents who schedule surgery so that their children can "join the community" are another example of such fanaticism outside Islam. But please use this website merely to amuse the reader and not to try to get him to wise up. (Written before I have a look at your edits.) Spıke Radiomicrophone12:20 11-Aug-15

edit Pest

Engaging an anonymous pest with a history of twenty-odd posts of conundrums on talk pages, who returns to my talk page to chuckle that he has found out how to evade my ban, will not achieve what you want, even if what you want is improvements to this website, and will achieve what Anon wants, which is to have attention paid to him at the expense of improvements to this website. Hi Spike! I checked the IP's page after having written a response to him and saw that he was blocked. I still don't see why I couldn't invite him. In my opinion, if he wants to stir up drama, he'll feed on bans and reverts and will back off seeing that he's welcomed and there's no reason to argue. And if he wants to contribute, he might as well acknowledge it as per my suggestion and ask for his ban to be lifted. As far as I know, there've been cases of blocked IPs turned prolific registered users and my message wasn't meant to encourage a ban evasion, but to end the disagreement, which shouldn't have been a disagreement in the first place. I am also pretty upset you removed my message just like that, despite the fact that you are generally against that, because I took time to encourage someone to contribute positively and in my opinion people are immensely more valuable than a few rules, that might be meaningless in this particular context. You also know my way of dealing with users and you can trust that I'll guide the anon through if he is willing to be a positive contributor.
On another note, I was also pretty upset by your assumptions that I resorted to low moves on other websites to degrade your image for personal benefit. I have never complained about you, as I've always valued the continuous assistance I have received from you since I joined Uncyclopedia. Unless you're considering the act of expressing sympathy for someone who feels either discouraged to edit or unwelcome (even though I know this is never in your wish to make anyone feel this way) as a complaint, I don't see what I could do wrong. Anton (talk) 18:02, August 13, 2015 (UTC)

My remarks (on VFS) were meant to characterize that website and not your moves. I don't think you resort to low moves nor have no indication you have attacked me. Nevertheless, they say that venting about me is a frequent theme there. Spıke Radiomicrophone18:08 13-Aug-15

Sorry, I have written this before receiving your message. This removes most of my concerns. About the fork, as Wikia gets the first place in Google search, it's only natural that new users first come here and then join the fork if they're dissatisfied with something or forced to leave (with a ban), unless they discover it by accident and decide to stick with both sites (like I do). So it's also natural that a lot of new users at the fork do have a problem with the way things are done here. But I personally don't think the point of that website is to complain about anyone, it's just one of the consequences of the fork's web interest. Anton (talk) 18:16, August 13, 2015 (UTC)
I've also just checked your last edits to my UnNews. Thanks, they really help! Anton (talk) 18:19, August 13, 2015 (UTC)
