Pin gas is a colorless, odorless gas released into the air by a tack being pressed into something. Pin gas consists of 80% carbon monoxide and 20% carbon dioxide. According to the CPSC, pin gas kills an average of 500,000 people a year, and hospitalizes over 1,000,000 people a year. In total, over 20,000,000 have been killed by pin gas since 1973. A famous case of a pin gas killing before 1973 occurred in 1868, when during a British arts and crafts conference, a man was teaching kids something but when he insert a tack into the cardboard, pin gas got released, killing the man and 83 other children, with 176 children hospitalized and 309 children out of the 500 children there affected.
