The United States Army is the military force of the United States of America that is responsible for land-based military operations. It is one of seven U.S. Uniformed Services, and is arguably the most motivated of them all. While the U.S. Marines will claim that they are the toughest branch of the U.S. Military, no one can deny that soldiers tend to have the cheeriest outlook of all in the dimmest of circumstances. The U.S. Army draws its origins from the original Continental Army of 1775. This is also the origin of the Army's unusually motivated, and slightly sarcastic, outlook. It was at Valley Forge in the winter of 1777 - 1778 in which this spirit of enthusiasm was born.

It is the primary mission of the U.S. Army to, "provide necessary forces and capabilities ... in support of the National Security and Defense Strategies. Hooah!"[1] The Army is the military division of the Department of the Army. Think that's confusing? It get's better: there's a civilian Secretary of the Army that runs the whole show. Not confusing enough? That department is a part of the Department of Defense, headed by another civilian secretary. To further complicate matters, The Army National Guard and the Army Reserves are thrown into the mix somewhere in between. So basically, the Army is one giant clusterfuck of competing dick-measuring in which no one really knows who's in charge. Hooah.

edit Mission

It is the mission of the United States Army to seek out and destroy all enemies of the Republic both foreign and domestic. The Army will deploy to engage these enemies in close combat and to deter aggression against the United States and her interests. Sounds pretty badass, right? Well, the reality is there hasn't been a real land war since Korea, so most likely if you get deployed you'll end up guarding a small building of little importance in a relative paradise while you eat tacos. Hooah.
