There is an archived discussion on this subject in the Village Dump, where a tenuous consensus was reached.
I was going to append a note at the end warning that there is a current discussion about changing this policy that would be a good idea to read before writing your vain article. But, alas, this page is protected. Can someone add the note for me? --User:Nintendorulez 18:50, 31 May 2006 (UTC)
Semi-protected now. --Splaka 02:41, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
Would it be possible to list deleted vanity articles as seen at Uncyclopedia:CVP, if only to get these articles off of Special:Lonelypages ? Here are the articles I've found at present time. MadMax 23:20, 30 June 2006 (UTC)
As you all probably know, Wikipedia has renamed its vanity policy to Wikipedia:Conflict of interest. I would like to propose doing something similar to this policy, not truly by moving the page but rather by any or all of the following:
Use {{title|Uncyclopedia:<strike>Vanity</strike> Conflict of Interest Policy}}
Sorry, but can't I at least create the shortcut? (I won't even list it in the shortcut box...) Pentium5dot1 20:28, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
Idea dropped a long time ago. Please have mercy on me. (It seems some more well-respected Uncyclopedian decided the shortcut was beneficial anyway.) Pentium5dot1 02:24, 25 March 2007 (UTC)
edit What are your rules on sub-Vanity, pre-Vanity and post-Vanity??
I created a page called Jesse Morrin which Opliro immediatly deleted saying "We don't care," but THIS IS NOT A VANITY PAGE AND SHOULD NOT BE DELETED UNDER THE VANITY POLICIES because JESSE MORRIN IS NOT A REAL PERSON. The whole joke was that there was a guy with a normal name who would seem to be a real guy, but he would be Oscar Wilde-esque, Chuck Norris-esque, etc.
My goal is to make Jesse Morrin regular UncyclopediaStereotype, like Oscar Wilde and Captian Obvious and Mr. T, but as of yet everyone has HUFFED THE PAGE. I am currently working off-line on a finished version which is actually quite good, but I forgot to put in on a CD so I couldn't bring it to school to upload it.
Please stop being such a bitch to the character of Jesse Morrin!!!
Just like to say that I disagree with this policy. The main reason I hate Wikipedia is that they deleted a VERY GOOD page I had written about myself. I Hate Wikipedia 04:27, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
Actually, articles on non-notable people (like you, we don't even know who you are) are deleted on wikipedia AND Uncyclopedia. --Lt.High Gen. GrueThe FewThe Proud,The Marines 04:30, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
You don't know who I am because I'm not using my name. If I did, you would. But, whatever. I really only started this account so I could make Discussion comments once in a blue moon, or correct an unintentional misspelling that bothers me. I'm more a freeloader. edit Acceptance of article that might be classed as vanity
The article will be about me, but it's going to be about how I'm going to kill a bunch of hookers with an aftermath. Would I be breaching vanity or am I ok to go ahead? --—The preceding signed comment was added byProjectmayhem666 (talk • contribs). 15:14, 20 March 2009 (UTC)
If it's funny enough you will probably get away with it. People have before. MrNFork you! 15:22, Mar 20
I just realised I could make up a fictional character making this irrelevant. --—The preceding signed comment was added byProjectmayhem666 (talk • contribs). 15:36, 20 March 2009 (UTC)
Since Yahoo is killing off all of the Geocities and isn't going to allow more to be made, we should remove it from this page. MegaPleb•Dexter111344•Complain here 02:46, September 6, 2009 (UTC)
