Although many articles still have quotes, it is generally suggested start an article with a paragraph, to wit, to avoid placing templates, quotes, or other "header clutter" at the start of an article. Placing a thumbnailed image above the text is acceptable, as the text will still show at the top of the article. Placing a legitimate {{tl|Whoops}}, or other disambiguation at the top on an article is also acceptable, but that should only be used as a navigation tool, not as a joke.

Lists of quotes, as with other lists, are discouraged. Additionally, when quoting someone in text, one should use quotation marks and other standard real-world formatting, rather than breaking paragraphs with the use of {{tl|Q}}. For example, one should type that William Shakespeare said, "Brevity is the soul of wit." One should not use {{t|Q}} and say that:
  +
  +
{{Q|Brevity is the soul of wit|William Shakespeare}}
  +
  +
Notice how that introduces an abrupt end to the previous paragraph, and an abrupt end to this one? The flow of ideas is broken, and that is made visually apparent by the nonstandard formatting. There is reason books are written in paragraph form. Although a comic writer may break the rules of formatting and grammar for humor, it should only be done with it is funny in context.

The following is a listing of Quote templates. The only quote templates still in normal use are {{Q}}, {{cquote}}, and {{Wilde}}. The use of quotes is generally discouraged in most contexts. Quotes are still used in the Unquotable namespace, but that is a relatively small, and most abandoned, project.

Although many articles still have quotes, it is generally suggested start an article with a paragraph, to wit, to avoid placing templates, quotes, or other "header clutter" at the start of an article. Placing a thumbnailed image above the text is acceptable, as the text will still show at the top of the article. Placing a legitimate {{Whoops}}, or other disambiguation at the top on an article is also acceptable, but that should only be used as a navigation tool, not as a joke.

Lists of quotes, as with other lists, are discouraged. Additionally, when quoting someone in text, one should use quotation marks and other standard real-world formatting, rather than breaking paragraphs with the use of {{Q}}. For example, one should type that William Shakespeare said, "Brevity is the soul of wit." One should not use Q and say that:

“Brevity is the soul of wit”

Notice how that introduces an abrupt end to the previous paragraph, and an abrupt end to this one? The flow of ideas is broken, and that is made visually apparent by the nonstandard formatting. There is reason books are written in paragraph form. Although a comic writer may break the rules of formatting and grammar for humor, it should only be done with it is funny in context.
