Pages to improve Uncyclopedia articles?

  • We could have a page for requested articles, along with a description of the basis of the article. An example entry would be:
Prophecy of the Popes - I would like to see a page parodying The Prophecy of the Popes which states there will be 111 popes before the end of time. The layout could be like the chart that's on that site, with real and/or fake popes and fake mottos and explanations.
A link to the page can be the words "Article Request" in the red "Article Request" box on the main page.
  • We could have a "Rewrite of the day" section on the main page. It would look like this or something like it. If it was above the feature article and news boxes, it would get the most attention. Of course, it could also be in the red "article request" box at the bottom.

What do you think? --Darkdan 22:09, 30 Apr 2005 (EDT)

Requested Articles: You could try adding more details to the article request template that already exists [1], although I'd guess it may be worth keeping it short.
Rewrites: Main problem is how to decide, I'm not sure we want a VFR (Votes for Rewrite) as that maybe going a bit too madly democratic, maybe just use the top from the Rewrite Requested or the oldest?
--Elvis 06:29, 1 May 2005 (EDT)

Seriously don't we have enough anti-Catholic stuff on here? I don't want to seem like a stick in the mud, but alot of it is really mean-spirited. The type of stuff that would be quick-deleted if it were posted about Jews or African-Americans. Some of it's funny, but a good deal of line crossing goes on. My own brother included...or am I just being a whiny bitch?--slack 16:10, 1 May 2005 (EDT) P.S. This is in reference to the Papal Prophecies Post (say that 3 times fast)

Surely it's a sign from god(esse) that we need more anti-protestant stuff, Come on "Rev" Ian Paisely surely has room for a piss taking "Royal Leamington Spa says NO!" and/or "Home Rule means Comb Rule" not to mentoin limp wristed Anglican types (in more ways than one), I even have a link to Rave Vicars somewhere. But seriously bear in mind that the catholic church is a) Pretty big and b) In the news right now so it is perhaps understandable.--Elvis 18:50, 1 May 2005 (EDT)

Makes sense King, but, as for myself, I'm swearing it off, and boycotting those that are most flagrant, not advocating censorship, just better taste, and personal choice. I'll stick to poking fun at historical figures and the good ol' USA, Speaking of, I'm particularly proud of my Pledge of Agrievance, and my rewrite of Constitution--slack 20:43, 1 May 2005 (EDT)

Slack...the Pope has now cursed you. Expect a visit from St. Peter's Basilica soon...=P Just for the record, I think you're being too sensitive. I grew up Catholic, too, and I find a great deal of it quite amusing....the articles, I mean...well, and the growing up Catholic part, too! =) --RadicalX 08:15, 4 May 2005 (EDT)

Shu'p bitch you're going to hell for Megatron too...but shit that's funny!--slack 18:43, 5 May 2005 (EDT)

Login Timeouts?

I prefer for my browser not to have me logged in permanently, but if I make that choice (i.e., I don't check the "remember me across sessions" box), I get auto-logged out after what seems like a short editing session (6 hours 2 hours or less). I would like to humbly suggest that this sucks, though admittedly not a whole lot. Is there any way to configure this without simply setting myself up to be logged in all the time? I'm not sure how Wikipedia does it -- whether they leave me logged in until I exit the browser, or whether the login period is just a lot longer -- but it sucks less in this respect. --Ahmed the Jewess 22:27, 26 Apr 2005 (EDT)

Unsure. You might have to change your universal cookie setting to "keep until I close browser", which would affect every site you visit. --stillwaters/Talk 11:39, 29 Apr 2005 (EDT)
That would depend on the browser. You can set per-site exceptions in Firefox... but it's probably an internal problem a.k.a. feature of Uncyclopedia itself. --Bonalaw 07:29, 30 Apr 2005 (EDT)
Hmm, I know that it keeps me logged in forever when I do that... odd. --PantsMacKenzie 15:15, 30 Apr 2005 (EDT)

Something Awful

I think someone on the SA forums linked us. We're getting a traffic burst from them, so batton down the hatches. Anyone from SA care to link the thread, or mirror it? --Chronarion 16:38, 16 Apr 2005 (EDT)

Yes indeed, it's how I found the site. Here. The thread is buried now, and hasn't had a reply in a several days, so the worst is probably over. --Volte 18:03, 17 Apr 2005 (EDT)

Anniversaries / Did You Know / Recent News Templates

I think we should make these less easy for people to edit - they're the front page of the website, for goodness' sake, and some of the recent edits to it have been just plain unfunny. I mean, even that pathetic joke of a website "wiki pedia" protects those templates. And I for one can't be bothered to clean up after each and every troll who spews bile all over the front page. Agreement? Or nay? --Machinecurse 20:37, 1 Apr 2005 (EST)

Yeah, the number of gay jokes is exceeding our bandwidth --Nytrospawn 20:39, 1 Apr 2005 (EST)

We're having a hard enough time keeping up with daily content in those templates as it is. Impeding the edit process would slow contributions to almost nothing. --Algorithm 22:38, 2 Apr 2005 (EST)

If someone is willing to dedicate themselves to a daily edit or maintainence, then yes, lock is ok. But we don't have enough regulars to do that. --Chronarion 00:54, 3 Apr 2005 (EST)

Would it be feasible to have certain things locked except to those who've got, y'know, good edit histories at least 100 edits long (or something)? Some limit within which trolls will have been spotted and banned? Or would the required programming be completely and totally bizarre? --The Lad Himself 16:39, 3 Apr 2005 (EDT)

I have re-rigged the Anniversaries system to be virtually identical to the Wikipedia one - Go to Uncyclopedia:Anniversaries to see what I mean. This means that we need to make sure anniversaries exist for all the days of the year otherwise the front page will have a link to the nonexistant anniversary page. So if anyone's feeling bored, head on over to Uncyclopedia:Anniversaries and fill in the next few days of anniversaries. --Machinecurse 14:02, 5 Apr 2005 (EDT)

voting on VFH

Um, can we vote for our own articles?--The Lad Himself 16:07, 30 Mar 2005 (EST)

I think voting for your own articles is fine. After all, since it is wiki, technically no one owns the article. --Paulgb Talk 14:32, 31 Mar 2005 (EST)

Vote for Sauron

So far, we've only seen one drawback to the new Main Page layout, that being the absence of Sauron, Lord of the Dance, who has been moved to Uncyclopedia:About. I've tried a few things, and come up with this alternative. Do we want to replace the main page with the candidate listed herein, or is Sauron fine where he is? --Algorithm 21:25, 24 Mar 2005 (EST)

I like it. I kind of miss seeing cheery Sauron on the Main Page --Uvula Donor 21:28, 24 Mar 2005 (EST)

I voted Sauron, '05. --JHarr 21:30, 24 Mar 2005 (EST)

I've got a fever, and the only prescription is more Sauron. Your alternative is more better than the current page. --Rcmurphy 22:33, 24 Mar 2005 (EST)

Why not put Sauron to the right of the header, just where she was previously? --UnholySauce 23:05, 24 Mar 2005 (EST)

Tried it, doesn't work. [2] --Algorithm 01:07, 25 Mar 2005 (EST)
Sure it does. I've taken the liberty of editing the beta page - you just needed some more blank lines to give it room. --UnholySauce 02:22, 25 Mar 2005 (EST)
Cool. The beta-page looks great with Sauron, Lord of the Dance on it. --stillwaters/Talk 10:31, 25 Mar 2005 (EST)

We need more Sauron. She's my favorite. As for where... I wish she were up near the top, but if that's not possible, wherever she fits. mmm, fits. --PantsMacKenzie 01:41, 25 Mar 2005 (EST)

We want our sauron!!! --Niko 04:26, 25 Mar 2005 (EST

You could always use Sauron as the main logo instead of... whatever that is. This is all totally freaking me out, by the way. I don't know how much more change I can take. Usually I'd go and stare at Sauron until I felt better, but on the "about" page... it just feels dirty. Must say the featured articles thing kicks ass though.--The Lad Himself 07:46, 25 Mar 2005 (EST)

Yes to Sauron! The alternative link looks good to me! --Pnorf 13:03, 25 Mar 2005 (EST)

I'm down with the beta page; me and my hommie Sauron go way back. That fool is gangsta. BUCKshot! --Metaphysical 13:25, 25 Mar 2005 (EST)

It's unanimous! Sauron has been restored. --Algorithm 15:29, 25 Mar 2005 (EST)

MediaWiki software capabilities and norms

If you want to learn how the system works and what its capabilities and what the normal ways of doing things are, look into Wikipedia or its associated projects first. After all, we're a spoof and their style needs to be mastered if we want to satirize it masterfully. For correct ways to make templates, wikification, and footnotes, explore a bit into the Wikipedia documentation and look at their articles. We don't have much of that now, and it's unlikely that we'll have any meaningful documentation here. --stillwaters 11:06, 13 Mar 2005 (EST)

Well, that's one way to make sure this thing performs to our blog-based predictions, stillwaters. But does the Heisenburg Uncertainty Principle apply to wikis? -- boyhowdy 2:12 am, 14 Mar 2005 (EST)

www.uncyclopedia.com?

Has any thought been given to grabbing a dedicated domain for the site? I noticed "www.uncyclopedia.com" is being placeheld by Godaddy, is that you guys? I think that or something similar would be much easier for people to spread the word about. If you need donations or anything I'm sure people would be willing to pony up the twenty bucks or whatever for the domain, I know I would

--Diabloman8890 14:02, 30 Mar 2005 (EST) Update: Just realized that uncyclopedia.wikia.com links here as a redirect, but i still think it'd be cleaner if it or .com was the actual domain

Out of .org or .com, I think .org is more suited for the uncyclopedia as it is a parody of wikipedia.org. I see what you mean about it being cleaner, though. One thing about the domain setup though is that it is currently only a redirect, so to link to the pages you still have to use the mrpalmguru.com/ domain. Not too important, just thought id point it out. --Paulgb Talk 17:15, 30 Mar 2005 (EST)

Yeah, definately agree with the .org bit. The redirect is annoying, why not just make that the actual domain? --Diabloman8890 23:20, 30 Mar 2005 (EST)

That would involve that well, I have uhm, time to reconfigure mediawiki. :-P --Chronarion 00:54, 1 Apr 2005 (EST)
I have no idea currently how to move it to the other domain. I'm looking into it though. If someone knows how to move a mediawiki site to another domain, let me know. --Chronarion 02:48, 8 Apr 2005 (EDT)

Assuming you are running bind, you could just add an entry to the zone files. If you are also running Apache, most likely you could use mod_rewrite and mod_proxy... Thats what I do at school for my server (which runs Zope and Plone). Obviously your setup is different, so your mileage may vary. --bdanials 05:12, 8 Apr 2005 (EDT)

Mediawiki has been reconfigured. I'm on a shared host, for now, and thus, i'm using mod_rewrite. No bind tricks or httpd.conf for me, just rewrite rules. :-P--Chronarion 12:54, 8 Apr 2005 (EDT)

See Talk

I made a new template for some of my pages, Template:SeeTalk, which is intended to be used where there are notes on the talk page of the article regarding intentional mispellings, or format guidelines. Is this acceptable, or does it go against wiki philosophy? I just wanted to make it clear somewhere what it was intended for, and that it wasnt a way for me to have absolute control over my pages or anything like that. --Paulgb 10:33, 25 Mar 2005 (EST)

Hasty Additions to Highlights?

Articles such as Amadeus, Cocktail, Creed, and Ireland have beed added to the Highlighs section despite being viewed barely over 100 times each. Do these articles deserve to be on highlights quite yet? Maybe they should be reviewed to see if they're funny enough to be added this early. --Savethemooses (click my talk page) 14:49, 22 Mar 2005 (EST)

Well, Cocktail and Creed certainly are funny enough to add to the Highlights. Especially Cocktail; damn, that cracked me up. Amadeus is borderline even with the ridiculous pic I added. Ireland is okay, but needs wikification and also a bit more humor here and there. --Uvula Donor 15:15, 22 Mar 2005 (EST)

I think the VOTE FOR YOUR FAVOURITE ARTICLES link should go at the top of Highlights, not the bottom. Naebody sees it awa doon there. There'd be more votes--The Lad Himself 15:28, 22 Mar 2005 (EST)

Point taken. Basically I just want highlights to rotate once in a while, so uh feel free to move stuff around to and from highlights. Creed, I thought was pretty funny. Amadeus is funny if you know the context, I guess it's an inside joke :-P Ireland is funny, but needs wikification. I'll move the favorite link. Also, if someone wants to manage the highlight reel, it would be welcome. I kinda want to do excerpts and things, but i'm really busy with programming stuff -_0 --Chronarion 15:57, 22 Mar 2005 (EST)

Editorial ideas

Currently, we have only the following position on the Uncyclopedia Editorial Team: Editor-in-absense -- Chronarion. So that means editorial and administrative maintenance is terribly difficult at this time. I think we're going to need a few more positions for specific tasks. For example, a sysop committee, a few editors, and so on. This of course is not about Intarweb powah. This is about making a more accessible and family-friendly useful Uncyclopedia, the Intarweb directory of wonderful things. --stillwaters 03:47, 20 Mar 2005 (EST)

Hmm...I want intahweb powah. I've thought about suggesting an article approval Sysop team, where new articles are reviewed before being added. Not sure this is a good idea though.--TheTris 06:43, 21 Mar 2005 (EST)

Nah, that's worse than registered edits. --Chronarion 01:14, 22 Mar 2005 (EST)

Probably a bad idea, but I don't know. I want an editorial team and sysop committee for the purpose of developing meaningful documentation and communication pages (community portal and village dump are pathetic and overcrowded right now, and without any experience with the software, it's rather difficult to get started) and carrying out system maintenance effectively (about:pages are scattered all over the place, for example). Basically, need janitors. :-P --stillwaters 08:45, 21 Mar 2005 (EST)

I do some janitoring duty - and never get time to write articles as a result :-(. As this is an editting discussion, does anyone know what happened to "Absolute Power"? It seems to have disappeared without trace, and I can't track the goon that deleted it.--TheTris 09:44, 21 Mar 2005 (EST)

Scratch that, found out with my intahweb powah!

Sorry about that, Tris. See, I do some janitoring duty too and I whacked "Absolute Power" without reading it carefully. (I know we talked about this before, but I'm fessing up in front of everyone because I'm a masochist.) --Uvula Donor 23:44, 21 Mar 2005 (EST)

I'm thinking about an editorial team though. One with the power to appoint more editors. Is anyone particularly liking this task? --Chronarion 01:19, 22 Mar 2005 (EST)

Well, if being in a editorial team means editing the articles to wiki-style and maintaining grammar, I can be in it. That's what I mostly do here anyway. --MZL 06:35, 22 Mar 2005 (EST)

I do a fair bit of cleaning up with the categories... I've been trying to organise them to make a bit more sense, under the principle that yes, we're a parody, but we do need to be easier to navigate and a vaguely logical approach to creating and populating categories will greatly aid this. If anyone else fancies joining my crusade perhaps we should form an Elite Category Management Squad, come up with an overarching policy and make sure all Uncyclopedia's pages are appropriately catagorised. --Machinecurse 11:25, 25 Mar 2005 (EST)

That sounds like fun. The ECMS could also make sure all categories have some content so the links don't redirect to their respective edit pages. If you'd like my help, count me in (though I might be fairly busy over the next few days). --UnholySauce 18:52, 29 Mar 2005 (EST)

How much do you pay an hour? --24.241.124.214 01:31, 30 Mar 2005 (EST)

The ECMS sounds like a good plan. It appears that several invividuals are busy wikificating, categorizing & spellchecking more or less haphazardly. This could benefit from a more organized approach. Getting the categories in order sounds like a priority. --Lomedae 14:19, 30 Mar 2005 (EST)

See the Uncyclopedia:beta and gimmie suggestions. It IS just a beta, so i'm not actually done yet. --Chronarion 22:50, 22 Mar 2005 (EST)

I think we should encouge users to photoshop pictures to go along with articals, a new photoshop picture should be placed on the main story everyday. (news if possable)... just because this site is satire on wiki the closer we look to the real thing the funnier it is. -- hagamaba

Please try to declare copyright status

When you upload stuff, take the time to cite the source or at least backlink to where you got it. It will be an endless pain when Microsoft and Sun start suing us. If you are the creator of the file you've uploaded, put that in the description and note that it's probably released under the same licence as Uncyclopedia by default if you don't clarify. If you photoshop an image or something, also cite the source of the image. Describe what each image is really about; that would make life much easier. --stillwaters 02:09, 14 Mar 2005 (EST)

yoho, anyone here? Copyrighted stuff can't be licensed under Creative Commons without authorization or at least attribution. Pleeeease at least credit your source when you upload (Just "Google Image" won't work, provide a link to where the picture was found, at least). --stillwaters/Talk 14:08, 26 Mar 2005 (EST)

A new main page layout would aid the Writer and Noob of the month awards and vice versa.

As this whole thing is parody, I suspect Microsoft and Sun will leave us well alone. Massive bad publicity and not a leg to stand on either. I'm no legal expert though, so that could be wishful thinking...--TheTris 09:44, 21 Mar 2005 (EST)

New things

Please help remove Cruft. People often try to add more silliness to an article, in order to be disarming, when the flat sarcasm of the article is actually funnier. Try to remove cruft from good articles. --Chronarion 01:24, 14 Mar 2005 (EST)

also, the first thing i've started doing is cleaning up small junk articles, like deleting "Reptilian global conspiracy" as the content was: 'Obey us or Die.' you can check for these by pouring over the 'Try writing about' section on the front page and looking at the 'Short Pages' section under 'Special pages'. --Metaphysical 01:35, 14 Mar 2005 (EST)

Okay. If it is funny, or you think someone might find it funny, send it to VFD. --Chronarion 09:09, 14 Mar 2005 (EST)

How possible is a rating system for articles? --Savethemooses 18:41, 14 Mar 2005 (EST)

Meh. Rating articles is like trying to say Milligan is funnier than Python; depends on your point of view. I'd settle for trying to achieve a general sense of silliness --Goomball 10:09, 18 Mar 2005 (EST)

Sarcasm should be rewrited on sight. Preferably with something humoristic, such as irony, parody, something subtle, ... Izwalito 14:49, 24 Mar 2005 (EST)

Uh, no. Sometimes sarcasm is indeed funnier. Nonsense should be rewritten. --Chronarion 14:56, 24 Mar 2005 (EST)

Would you re-write python? it's compleate nonsense. --- hagamaba

Hey, I actually like python. Try writing in LUA. *shiver* --Chronarion 01:28, 25 Mar 2005 (EST)
I wouldn't rewrite it completely, but I might get rid of the whole indentation-as-syntax thing.--Ahmed the Jewess 01:18, 26 Apr 2005 (EDT)

This [IBM's tools for Wiki?] sounds interesting... from /.. Unfortunately I'm at work and people here expect me to be working! so I haven't checked it out, but if /. says it's OK, then... um, try at your own risk. --Fazookus

SysOp Situation

I am currently looking for SysOps. If you have a good edit history, are funny, non disruptive, and wish to SysOp here, tag yourself here.

  • I want to clean out the cruft like the month-old chewed-up newspaper from the floor of the hamster cage. I also live on the other side of the world like Gadgeophile, only underneath rather than on top. Actually, this means I'm checking Uncyclopedia just before your alarm clock goes off --Goomball 11:25, 18 Mar 2005 (EST)
Once I get free time!! --Chronarion 01:16, 22 Mar 2005 (EST)
Haven't seen you in a week or so, but i'll check once you come back.--Chronarion 02:16, 10 Apr 2005 (EDT)
could someone explain what a "late-night" troll is?
Okay, it's like saturday night fever. It's dark. There's a disco ball. And a furry green thing dancing. --Chronarion 12:39, 24 Mar 2005 (EST)
actually sorry, I should have said "late night-troll". They're the night-trolls that miss the troll alarm, and end up trolling early in the morning. --Gadgeophile 23:43, 28 Mar 2005 (EST)

Oh, and what's involved in the sysop thing? I could be interested...--Nyxx 21:15, 31 Mar 2005 (EST)

Well, mostly patrolling pages. But uh, you've got less than 50 edits so far, so whoa there boy :) --Chronarion 00:53, 1 Apr 2005 (EST)

We seriously need more sysops. The amount of crapulance is getting too much to read. Even newly registered users are building piles of radioactive poop --Nytrospawn 00:30, 10 Apr 2005 (EDT)

Opped. --Chronarion 02:16, 10 Apr 2005 (EDT)

The most time-consuming thing I do already is find horrible pages for Quick VFD. I admit that the few pages I've made aren't milk-from-nose funny, but I do enjoy killing me some cruft...making me a SysOps would cut out the middleman. AND I'm pretty much a long-time member by now. --Rcmurphy 01:32, 10 Apr 2005 (EDT)

Opped. --Chronarion 02:16, 10 Apr 2005 (EDT)

Well I'm new here but I'm definately interested in sysoping/troll-hunting for great justice. Hopefully this won't be a problem but I'll just lay it on the table right upfront; I'm not willing to do a nude scene. I mean if you really need it, you're just gonna have to spring for the body double. Anyway with that said, my edit history is gonna be sparse since i just heard about this place a couple weeks ago haha, but check me out, read my articles, I think you guys have got a great thing going here and I want to help keep it that way. Oh also, I was recently voted "Best MC Hammer Cover Singer" by my roommates, and you know why? Because you can't touch this. OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH --Diabloman8890 13:57, 30 Mar 2005 (EST)

Can you sing that again? I'll listen! I'll take a look at your edits soon, once I get time! --Chronarion 00:53, 1 Apr 2005 (EST)
Haven't seen you in a week or so, but i'll check once you come back. --Chronarion 02:16, 10 Apr 2005 (EDT)

Is there a guide to what a sysop can do, and how to do it? --Nytrospawn 13:37, 10 Apr 2005 (EDT)

Okay, I think I've been here long enough. I'd like in, if you'll have me. --Algorithm 22:44, 13 Apr 2005 (EDT)

You have been assimilated. --stillwaters/Talk 23:56, 13 Apr 2005 (EDT)

I play a nerdy Judge Dredd on Wikipedia, dealing Internet death to fuckwits. Imagine Dark Helmet saying "Your move, cweep!" If you still need ops, I hereby wave my hand - David Gerard 09:18, 28 Apr 2005 (EDT)

Conversion complete. You are now part of the funnies enforcer. --stillwaters/Talk 00:25, 29 Apr 2005 (EDT)

  • Righto. Bonalaw 16:21, 10 Mar 2005 (EST)
You have been SysOped. You're cool, like the Fonz. --Chronarion 21:52, 10 Mar 2005 (EST)
Yo! Welcome to ze Seeecret police. --PantsMacKenzie 00:07, 11 Mar 2005 (EST)
  • Hello! I spend half my time reverting entries so they are funny again, can I have lots of intahnet powa? --TheTris 07:01, 11 Mar 2005 (EST)
I have SysOped you, but you may not have intahnet powa. That is a job for Clinjas, and Clinjas only.--Chronarion 09:06, 11 Mar 2005 (EST)
  • Hi. Give us a job. --Machinecurse 10:35, 11 Mar 2005 (EST)

Message me when you get back. --Chronarion 01:03, 14 Mar 2005 (EST)
  • Hello, I don't mess up anything and some of what I've written is quite funny. And behold for I have even taken bad entries and turned them into good entries while leaving the bad bit intact. And given them proper links and things. And stayed up till 2am doing it. And got into trouble off my wife. (actually, request removed due to pressure of work, I'm unlikely to be around enough to be much use, will keep writing stuff though).----The Lad Himself 14:08, 11 Mar 2005 (EST)
The three of you, I can't op just yet, but add some pages to vfd, and throw annoying folk on ban patrol. Also please vote on the user policy. I'll check ops in a day or so, see how it goes. --Chronarion 15:06, 11 Mar 2005 (EST)
  • I'll be one, if you want. --Darkdan 15:29, 11 Mar 2005 (EST)
Dan the veteran is in. --Chronarion 15:33, 11 Mar 2005 (EST)
  • I would like to be a sysop as well --Nytrospawn 17:57, 11 Mar 2005 (EST)
Maybe later. Your edit history is far too tasteless-horny right now.
  • I'm still a noob here, but I find this project very interesting & I'm trying to edit/cleanup/improve where I can. I'm interested in being a sysop, but I know that you're going to need a longer history on me. So keep an eye on my stuff, and when you think I'm worthy, let me know. --Uvula Donor 17:35, 12 Mar 2005 (EST)
Agreed. And you have a funny name. That's a plus. --Chronarion 18:39, 12 Mar 2005 (EST)

  • I could Op the odd Sys if given the powers. Plus I live on the other side of the world, so I can blitz all the late-night trolls. --Gadgeophile 19:31, 13 Mar 2005 (EST)
I'll check in a short while! --Chronarion 01:03, 14 Mar 2005 (EST)

Q&A

Q:How much work is being a SysOp? Define "Funny"?? Is Uncyclopeda supposed to be funny???

A:No, you are supposed to be funny. I do not care about Cyclopedia, the internet composium on cyclopses. SysOps are required to roll a twelve ton boulder up a hill for the first thirty days. Following that, they must pass through the Initiation of fire. Then, after a two STD background check period, they'll have access to the harem.

Q:Which two?

A:If we told you ahead of time, you might cheat on the test.

Q:What can a SysOp Do?

A:You can delete entries if they're clearly crap. If you have a question about it, vfd instead. Feel free to protect any templates. Use your judgement. InstaBan any vandals for 24 days, no warnings. Blanking, WikiSpam, Adding "Your mother sucks cock" in places where not relevant, all constitutes vandalism. Pages that are not funny is not vandalism, unless it's well, really, really bad. You are also required to partake of a Hot Dog on a friday.

Wicomickinzing

I had an idea, which basically amounts to finding an article on Wikipedia, copy it to a new article on the Uncyclopedia and twist the facts and words around. I think this way we could have crap that's funny but still believable as an encyclopedia article. --Cctoide 05:08, 8 Apr 2005 (EDT)

The problem with that is that it can come dangerously close to plagiarism. And I think that it might cause more trouble than it's worth. --PantsMacKenzie 11:37, 8 Apr 2005 (EDT)

Have you not noticed? Everything on Wikipedia is covered under the GNU Free Document License. Anything on Wikipedia can be taken and altered as long as the final result may in turn be taken an altered, like say if it were put here in this Wiki. --User:Mr. Encyclopedia -12:37, 8 Apr 2005 (EDT)
Also, the GFDL license must be displayed. If you copy a page from wikipedia, PLEASE NOTE THE LICENSE. Creative Commons isn't the same as GFDL. But you guys CAN do this if you like. Copy if you want. However, you must preserve the copyright notices, AND link back to wikipedia. So it's quite a bit of trouble.--Chronarion 00:28, 9 Apr 2005 (EDT)
Not me, I love to make things up. My goal is to not make things look like they came from Wikipedia. Sometimes I use humor that makes no sense, the type of stuff that Andy Kaufman or the Warner Brothers and their Sister Dot use. In that case my articles usually get deleted by people who don't understand them. I might use elements from somewhere else, but I try to be at least 90% original. I had an idea for Holy Market and went with it, and then someone added to it to make it better. Now that is what I call teamwork. Will you find Holy Market on Wikipedia? I don't think so! Only my deranged and schizoaffective brain could create something like that. --Orion Blastar 20:15, 10 Apr 2005 (CST)

Wikipedia style Uncyclopedia citations?

I know you're thinking this idea sucks, but I think it's awesome. I think we should be able to click a button and have it cite that article in MLA or whatever. I would use this info in a paper, and uncyclopedia.com looks legit to my teachers. My teachers don't let me cite wikipedia anymore cause they're gay. I'm extremely lazy and don't feel like filling out all that MLA stuff, I just want to hit a button, ya know? Aptitude 04:15, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
