edit Motivation

Over several years designers noticed a number of flaws in the USA especially in the the export democracy functions and WMD tracker. This led to minor upgrades being proposed, including the USA1.2 upgrade also dubbed the Kerry upgrade. This particular upgrade was quickly rejected after it failed to pass the election criteria. This was a major set back for the upgrade and prompted calls for a complete overhaul which came to be known as the USB upgrade.

edit Schedual

Numerous set backs have meant USB won't be available until 2009 2013, and this will only happen if USB passes election tests later in 2008 2012.

edit Features

Some of the most eagerly anticipated features of this upgrade are listed below.

edit Advanced Presidential Interface

These were devised after users complained about problems understanding the previous implementation.

Among some of the improvements expected to be made to the interface are: intelligent speech recognition and pronunciation technologies, wireless debating, register of foreign leader names, advanced spellchecker and grammar correction, accurate climate forcasting softwear and the malfunction in the special relationship interface with the UKGBNI card has been fixed to allow 2-way diplomatic relations.

edit Multi-ethnic/Dual Gender Candidate Technology

This is the first version of the US to support multi ethnic candidacy as well it was proposed the option to upgrade to the "female" version of the technology, although there are criticisms that the "female" version is merely a rehash of the old USA version released in 1992 and replaced in 2000. These stem from the fact that the 1992 version was known to keep innacurate records of previous intern devices it had been connected to.

As of June press statements suggest that the "female" version has been abandoned due to severe problems similar to those experienced with the 1992 version. Tests revealed that the device's error logs were fatally flawed and could not be relied upon to keep accurate records of past conflicts.

Most agree that the multi ethnic candidacy is a promising development, although there are concerns that the "female" version, (if it is ever perfected) may not be able to support non-default ethnicity, it remains to be seen whether any USB release in the future will address these concerns.

edit Universal Bill of Rights Bug Fix

A series of fatal bugs were found in the current version which allowed viruses (particularly the Guantanamo and CIA rendition virus) to exploit a vulnerability in the due process functions. These bugs were traced to the USA Supreme Chip, which it is claimed has been given a major overhaul. However it remains to be seen how effective these bug fixes have been.

edit Kyoto Compliant

This is the first USx to comply with international standards of environmental protection. There have been criticisms that the USB (most of which will be manifactured in India and China) will not go far enough to reduce its power consumption.

edit Improved Roguewear Protection

This was a huge problem with the previous version, with the Roguewear filters often failing to identify the correct source of a problem, and causing a fatal exception when interfacing with foreign devices such as the iRaq and iRan. The USA also used Microsoft Rumsfeld to conduct its foreign interface policy which proved to be less than reliable.
