This is a documentation subpage for Template:W.
It contains usage information, categories and other content that is not part of the original template page.

For proof that Wikipedia sometimes does satire better than Uncyclopedia, click any of the links on this page. They're all real.

{{W}} adds a link to a specific Wikipedia article. Example:

Night of the Day of the Dawn of the Son of the Bride of the Return of the Revenge of the Terror of the Attack of the Evil, Mutant, Alien, Flesh Eating, Hellbound, Zombified Living Dead Part 2: In Shocking 2-D

edit Why use it?

Because it is more convenient than the usual

[[wikipedia:Lopadotemachoselachogaleokranioleipsanodrimhypotrimmatosilphioparaomelitokatakechymenokichlepikossyphophattoperisteralektryonoptekephalliokigklopeleiolagoiosiraiobaphetraganopterygon]]

under most circumstances. Do you see why?

wikipedia:Lopadotemachoselachogaleokranioleipsanodrimhypotrimmatosilphioparaomelitokatakechymenokichlepikossyphophattoperisteralektryonoptekephalliokigklopeleiolagoiosiraiobaphetraganopterygon

Note the "wikipedia" at the beginning of that link. This is not good! We don't want "wikipedia" mentioned in our Uncyclopedia links, right? Fuck Wikipedia! (Although we ARE linking to their article. Yeah. Anyway, fuck 'em, I say.) The alternative is this:

[[wikipedia:Instruction Concerning the Criteria for the Discernment of Vocations with regard to Persons with Homosexual Tendencies in view of their Admission to the Seminary and to Holy Orders|Instruction Concerning the Criteria for the Discernment of Vocations with regard to Persons with Homosexual Tendencies in view of their Admission to the Seminary and to Holy Orders]]
Instruction Concerning the Criteria for the Discernment of Vocations with regard to Persons with Homosexual Tendencies in view of their Admission to the Seminary and to Holy Orders

BUT LOOK! You've had to type the article name twice! Fuuuuuuck! See, this is simpler, ain't it:

{{W|Exploding whale}}.

And, it gives the same result:

Exploding whale

So, there you go. Useful template. Cheers!

edit Wait, why not just use proper code?

...

Yes, yes, you son of a bitch, one COULD just type

[[wikipedia:some article | ]]

...but where's the fun in that, you ignorant bastard?!? TEMPLATES are 'where it's at!'

edit Usage

{{W|article name|optional link text}}

Only the first parameter is required. (But you gathered that by the word "optional", right? RIGHT?)

edit Example

{{W|Fox tossing|Wikipedia asserts that ''fox tossing'' is an actual thing}}

edit Result

Wikipedia asserts that fox tossing is an actual thing
