Either you get what a tautology is all about, or you don't

~ Wittgenstein on tautology

A tautology is the generally accepted name for a tautology.

Tautology is a needed necessary aspect of human logic and language. Tautology is constantly always true, and in the context of language, can be either very clarifying, or very confusing. For example, the phrase "To descend down in a downwards motion, while moving downwards" is a perfect example of the clarifying powers of tautological language. The original phrase (before being tautologized) "To descend" is very confusing without the aid of tautology, there is no extrapolation and explanation of how the descent is occurring, and the statement does not make any sense whatsoever none at all. Tautology makes the sentence understandable, comprehensible, clear, and unambiguous.

Tautology can also be confusing. "To ascend up in a upwards motion, while moving upwards" is a perfect example of how tautology can be confusing and unnecessary. The repetition of words which have the same meaning serves no purpose, other than to confuse, confound and bewilder the reader who reads the sentence that has been read.

Tautological logic is also used by dozens of enlightened minds across all of the whole entire planet Earth. When one is faced with a difficult choice, for example when asked which beverage one would wish to be drowned in, Coke or Pepsi? Tautology provides the perfect answer: “I desire to be either drowned in Coke or to be drowned in Pepsi”. Other examples of the undeniable truth of tautology include: “This sentence either makes sense or does not”, or “Tautology is either useful, clarifying, very helpful, or an undeniable truth”.

Oscar Wilde was a tautology.

[edit] Biology

The study of turtle species that consume their own tail as their main diet. These species of turtle are immortal due to a guaranteed food supply. Their special biology allows them to regrow the missing tail, once devoured. Recent studies shows this regeneration ability is due to their immortal nature.
