edit The Reason Behind the Article's Creation

This article has never been featured on Uncyclopedia

But it was featured, on some other website sadly lacking any sense of humor at all, on 31 May 2013, which is to say yesterday. Why did they beat us to it?

This will hopefully clarify the bemusing reason why this article exists and help you to understand the even funnier joke behind it. The following conversation is taken off Spike's talk page and is had between me and Spike:

edit Cotswold Olimpick Games

Have you seen the wikipedia featured article on their front page today? I went on it to do some research on one of my articles and thought I'd gone on Uncyclopedia by mistake and had to check the logo. Someone needs to do a parody article on it. I would do it if I collaborated as I am stretched out with lots of different articles at the same time and not too much time to work on them. Would you like to collaborate with me in writing: Cotswold Olimpick Games? (The Cotswolds are a region in the South-West Midlands of England).

PS - We could also get the Reverend to collaborate with us on this one as he's from the North of England (Derbyshire I think) and probably knows more about Northern English culture. Sir ScottPat (talk) White Ensign Scotland Flag 1 Compassrose VFH UnS NotM WotM WotY 15:37, May 31, 2013 (UTC)

I've rewritten the Intro. It's your turn. Photo of drunken riot, please. Spıke ¬ 16:09 31-May-13
Ok. Drunken riot picture for main picture at start of article right? Sir ScottPat (talk) White Ensign Scotland Flag 1 Compassrose VFH UnS NotM WotM WotY 17:07, May 31, 2013 (UTC)
PS - I don't get this line: "This town is in the Cotswolds of England, probably, hence the name, probably." You seem to be unsure which is not encyclopedic but I am obviously missing some joke as I know you wouldn't do that. Sir ScottPat (talk) White Ensign Scotland Flag 1 Compassrose VFH UnS NotM WotM WotY 17:09, May 31, 2013 (UTC)
Also I think the template at the start ruins the comedy effect so we probably ought to put it at the end of the article. Sir ScottPat (talk) White Ensign Scotland Flag 1 Compassrose VFH UnS NotM WotM WotY 17:10, May 31, 2013 (UTC)

The second "probably" is from Wikipedia. The first "probably" is to continue the joke, and also because Athol (a joke I adapted from a joke concerning Athol, Massachusetts) is probably not in the Cotswolds at all. Indeed I think uncertainty is usually trite, and if you have a better approach, substitute it. The reason for the template is that there is no reason to do this article (or to try to get it onto the Main Page today) except to ridicule Wikipedia, and we ought to note somehow that that's what we're doing. Spıke ¬ 17:16 31-May-13

Fine but when it is done we can move it to the bottom, please. Sir ScottPat (talk) White Ensign Scotland Flag 1 Compassrose VFH UnS NotM WotM WotY 17:30, May 31, 2013 (UTC)
Also background info on Cotswolds (hilly region named after the Cotswolds hills): For many years it has been a very lowly populated area of England with just agriculture for industry. However recently many "Conservative" politicians and celebraties from Surrey and London have moved there because they want to live in traditional, Edwardian countryside of old England however the rest of the country laughs at these celbrities as they pretend they manage large farms over there but just employ others to them. The accent of the region has changed from West-Country to very posh upper class. Sir ScottPat (talk) White Ensign Scotland Flag 1 Compassrose VFH UnS NotM WotM WotY 17:30, May 31, 2013 (UTC)
Just to let you know I have done "Origins" and I think we should make an events bit so that I can put down some stereotypical English sports that definitely wouldn't feature in the International Olympics. Sir ScottPat (talk) White Ensign Scotland Flag 1 Compassrose VFH UnS NotM WotM WotY 18:10, May 31, 2013 (UTC)

When the job of spoofing Wikipedia is done, the template won't have to be there at all. ({{Wikipedia}} usually suffices.) And the article hardly has to be as long as the Wikipedia article, or ridicule every passage from the Wikipedia article, if there is no easy way to spoof it. You shouldn't write stuff that is only funny when held up next to the Wikipedia page. Spıke ¬ 19:09 31-May-13

Are you refering to any parts in particular with your last comment or just warning me? Thanks. Sir ScottPat (talk) White Ensign Scotland Flag 1 Compassrose VFH UnS NotM WotM WotY 19:16, May 31, 2013 (UTC)

I am neither citing any specific parts nor "warning" you. As I just told Romartus, whose decision it would be, the biggest point of this exercise is for you to bang it out today, while its counterpart is still on Wikipedia's corresponding main page. After that, few people are going to stumble on it. Spıke ¬ 19:40 31-May-13

I will do my best to complete it as I am currently doing now. It may be ready for tonight (my time) but if not it will be done by early morning when Romartus usually logs on. Sir ScottPat (talk) White Ensign Scotland Flag 1 Compassrose VFH UnS NotM WotM WotY 20:23, May 31, 2013 (UTC)
Did you put this quote in or is it from the original wikipedia article? "More recently, the historian and secretary of the Cliff Dover's Games Society, Francis Burns, has suggested that the gross wrestling scene between two hairy, naked men in Borat "reflects the wrestling at the Games."" If that is from the original wikipedia article than please can we ask Wikipedia to merge with us as we both seem to be aiming for comedic articles. Sir ScottPat (talk) White Ensign Scotland Flag 1 Compassrose VFH UnS NotM WotM WotY 08:14, June 1, 2013 (UTC)
My bad you did put that in. It's very good! Sir ScottPat (talk) White Ensign Scotland Flag 1 Compassrose VFH UnS NotM WotM WotY 08:16, June 1, 2013 (UTC)
He terminado! I've finished all the re-write of it and I've added a few more categories. Do whatever you want to it (in terms of touching it up) and I will notify to Romartus that it is ready. (Sooner it's up the better (to help the parody), I think). Sir ScottPat (talk) White Ensign Scotland Flag 1 Compassrose VFH UnS NotM WotM WotY 08:38, June 1, 2013 (UTC)

Nice "Olimpicks" poster. But I liked my Footnote 1 better than your "nothing-is-known" approach. Spıke ¬ 13:03 1-Jun-13

Sorry I didn't realise that that was your edit I thought it was original wikipedia. I have never heard of the sport hence my footnote but I will add yours back in. Thanks for complimenting the poster. Are you able to put it on the front page once you have proofread it or do we require Romartus' help? Sir ScottPat (talk) White Ensign Scotland Flag 1 Compassrose VFH UnS NotM WotM WotY 13:19, June 1, 2013 (UTC)

I have never heard of the sport either, but mine was a verbal conundrum, which is better than a shrug of the shoulders. I won't do Romartus's job for him. It may be that we weren't quick enough. Another 24 hours and our attempt to spoof the Wikipedia main page becomes irrelevant and this one would have to wait its turn on VFH. Spıke ¬ 13:23 1-Jun-13

Ah well. That's life. Back to the revision, I'm not playing the waiting game. Hopefully next time I log on it'll be there staring at me on the front page but if not then never mind. Thanks. Sir ScottPat (talk) White Ensign Scotland Flag 1 Compassrose VFH UnS NotM WotM WotY 13:29, June 1, 2013 (UTC)
PS - I'm having a few problems with Uncyclopedia. Sometimes when I press save to edit it randomnly tells me that I'm not logged on (as it just has done) and I have to log back on and re-save it again. This has happened multiple times over the past few days. Are you having the same problem? Sir ScottPat (talk) White Ensign Scotland Flag 1 Compassrose VFH UnS NotM WotM WotY 13:29, June 1, 2013 (UTC)

Yes, I am; also, rollback tells me I don't have permission, and sometimes deleting a page doesn't work but calls the same form back. The error message on Save says it's a Wikia server failure, and I believe it. Stuff happens.

Two more small problems with your edits: In "playground bullying," I just meant to imply that moderns had used the Games for political correctness, not go on to say anything actual about bullying; and on land subdivision ("cricket"), I think my contrast between rich and poor was better than your contrast between rich and rich Tories. Spıke ¬ 13:35 1-Jun-13

Concerning the first, we English like to have a joke that our playground bullies are some of the finest in the World (probably the same for most countries) so I think that is funnier than Political Corectness gone mad. There are two ways the article could have gone: posh, well-disciplined festival (Norman-style) where everyone sits round drinking tea or drunken rabble, not very PC festival (Saxon-style). I think the article leans more to the latter and I think we should stick with that. Concerning the second as long as there are some jokes about rich Tories, I'm happy but if you think your one was better here go ahead and change it. Thanks.
