For the religious among us who choose to believe lies, the so-called experts at Wikipedia have an article about Shiva.

Shiva is a party held at the home of the relatives of someone who has recently died. The party lasts for 1-3 days following the funeral of the deceased, depending on one's religion and how strongly religious the mourner is. Shiva is open to the public as a place where people can make friends, see existing friends, get free food, and in some cases, have sex.

The relatives of the deceased are known as mourners. They are saddened by the loss of a loved one. While some are happy to see other relatives and often friends, others are annoyed by the large crowd of strangers they never met who come to their house for the visitors' own entertainment.

Locations where Shiva is held can be found by word of mouth, circulating emails, or by looking at obits in the local newspaper.

[edit] Atmosphere of Shiva

The atmosphere of Shiva is that of a fun party. The free food and chance to meet people make it so popular that it is usually attended by dozens of people at a time. These people, excited to make new friends or see existing ones, are very happy and delighted.

The mourner is not given a choice whether or not to host Shiva. It is required in some religions, and those whose religions require Shiva threaten the mourners that if they refuse to hold Shiva following the death of a relative, they may die themselves. This scares mourners to hold Shiva.

A collegiate study has found that most mourners who sit Shiva hate Shiva due to what they must endure. Some refer to Shiva as "torture." Nevertheless, visitors to a Shiva event do not care about the mourner. The desire in humans to get free food is so strong, it can overwhelm one's conscience. Even the most altruistic souls on the planet do not view their torture of a mourner as a sin.
