J’adore LSD, literally translated “I love LSD“ is a 1967 rock-concept album by Andre The Giant. The majority of the album is greatly influenced by LSD and is heavily psychedelic. The remainder of the album is of the genre Franco-Rock which Andre arguably created with this album. Franco-Rock is much like Kraut-Rock, but french. To this day, the album is seen as an essential soundtrack to “tripping out“ and “mowing the lawn“.
The album was an instant success and was one of the major albums of the Summer of Love in 1967. The album was released at the height of the popularity of LSD which helped its sales greatly and from its sales, Andre reportedly bought lots of french bread. This album is one of only two albums (the other being Andre’s later effort, Dark Side of the Sudetenland) that has been scientifically proven to never get old.
As the typical concept album of today was still in its infacy in 1967, the concept of the album is rather simple but is still praised nonetheless as being one of the first and most influential concept albums in history. The concept is Andre’s adventures whilst under the influence of LSD, the most famous of which are “Taking a shit on LSD“ and “Brushing your teeth on LSD“.
It continues to sell enormously to this day and it has been estimated that at any one given point, one million people are listening to this album.
