Given that not all users who like sport on Uncyc are fans of the pathetic, prehensile version of football acted out by small men in tampax armour who are apparently caked in muscle wastage, I thought there may be enough interest to produce a collaboration article for the upcoming orgy of football in the summer. Of which I am talking about what is undoubtedly the greatest tournament in the history of man: the World Cup 2010 in South Africa. Of which starts on the 11th of June. A bit early to start on an article for the subject maybe, but I wanted an assurance from some users here before the nick of time occurs.

By collaboration article, I don't mean rewrite the pre-existing article. Nor do I think the fruit of this project ought to be the probably-created-by-someone-else-anyway article, but some sort of guide. I have the feeling that the article on the world cup itself may be popular enough amongst visiting IPs to warrant their own contribution to erosion, and a more direct article on the tournament itself may be best left to them, in my opinion. Not in your opinion perhaps, but I'm writing this at the moment. Or am I? I do not know.

Anyway, I was hoping that since mid-2006 (still an early period for the site), there will have been more attention spilt in the direction of the world cup. I know some users here have shown a tiny amount of predilection towards football so I don't see why this can't be the case. I'm also hoping that an objective for the article can be agreed on; say, intending to make it good enough to be featured on the front page on the day the first game twixt South Africa and Mexico kicks off. Just like Eurovision Song Contest was when that started on telly.

The idea around making a guide would be similar to the premise of the aforementioned Euro song article: the humour could be based on a preview of the tournament, with information offered on South Africa's home of football and stadiums, some tips of what to do in South Africa, the groups and their nations with one-by-one factfiles, players to watch and, and a slightly biased conclusion to the article ("this nation will obviously drop out", "this guy will score ten in his first game", "Brazil going to win again", etc). I already have some ideas, enough to try and develop a spine for the article, or at least some examples, etc. The aim with writing a guide would be that we'd needn't have to update the page every day: that could be left for a more direct article, as mentioned above.

So, anyone interested in this collab idea? England's and USA's first game is against one another, btw. --nldr 18:52, April 5, 2010 (UTC)

Your foreign sport of soccer frightens and confuses me. --Mn-z 04:58, April 6, 2010 (UTC)

There is nothing confusing about this wonderful sport! --nldr 10:39, April 6, 2010 (UTC)
Actually the USA team are pretty good. May well cause a shock in South Africa. I agree an article on the World Cup would be a good idea. --LaurelsRomArtus*Imperator ® (Orate) 19:05, April 6, 2010 (UTC)
They are good, I rooted for them at the Confederations cup, but I'm a sucker for the underdog. --nldr 19:14, April 6, 2010 (UTC)
Oh, don't remind me. The shame! The shame! FreddCan Shredd 22px-Flag_of_Egypt.png 18px-Foxicon.png 23:48 • Wednesday, 7-04-2010
You beat the world cup champions. Shame? --nldr 23:50, April 7, 2010 (UTC)
