Recently Wikia asked if we wanted to update our entry on their site. This is what has so far come up with as a result of discussions off site. Input welcome as this is discussion is on one of the 'serious' pages here. This discussion will be about the Wikia hosted Uncyclopedia site only. --LaurelsRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 11:48, August 3, 2014 (UTC)

Parent Page Lifestyle:

participants = Anyone who wants to; but users who pick a user name and register are given more support and their contributions are not deleted except with explanation and advice. (Special note: Your Wikia user name does not work at Uncyclopedia and you must pick an Uncyclopedia user name different from any taken in Wikia.)

content = A comedy parody of an encyclopedia, superficially resembling Wikipedia.

family = No. Readers may encounter articles that mock races, religions, political beliefs, celebrity individuals, and personal values, including obscenity and racial epithets; and will encounter fierce resistance to the notion to subordinate any of the above to niceness, courtesy, avoidance-of-hurt, orthodoxy, or political correctness. Gratuitous nudity and gore, unrelated to humor, is discouraged and will be removed. However, some exists for historical reasons, and nudity that directly serves a humor purpose may be retained.

parent = Unfunny content can be nominated at Votes For Deletion. On content that is funny but too mature for a reader, the community is flatly uninterested in shielding or counseling the reader.

age range = The management encourages adult humor, involving clever writing and using illustrations mostly to support the imitative effect; and discourages immature humor, toilet humor, and shock humor. Users in puberty who want to write about puberty will encounter resistance, as will younger users whose sense of humor is limited to outrageous typography, goofy photos, and rants. Nevertheless, the community would not declare a person unwelcome on the basis of age.

Replies

To be clear, this is our response when Wikia asked for wording of an Uncyclopedia entry in the Wikia Community Forum, not some new "content warning."

It is a giant step forward that Wikia is now pursuing issues of parental control and acceptability of content using an offsite review rather than by erecting a gateway between the reader and his selected article — perhaps a deferred consequence of Romartus and Simsie going to meet with them personally. I propose we add that our site religion is "Dawkinsism" because if we worship him like a God, then that would create some fucked up situation. Also eternal leader = Oscar Wilde.
On a separate note where is this information to be displayed and why isn't this on the main village dump? Thanks. Sir ScottPat (converse) White Ensign Scotland Flag 1 Compassrose VFH UnS NotM WotM WotY 10:55, August 5, 2014 (UTC)
RomartusBikini

Kinda like that.

Perhaps because it has been so long that someone just created the page rather than using the form, which attaches {{Forumheader}} to have that effect. Now remedied. Separately, as with the old Content Warning, we should suppress the need to prove to every curious person that we are funny, or especially advertise the website meme that I spend time trying to get newbies not to lean on, and just provide the facts. Instead of the word 'mock', let's use 'parody', which is also a more legal term in case Fisher Price or rolex get a torn in their side about us again. And mocking is pointing an arm and finger in someone's face and calling them childish names. Parody is classy, and wears a nice glove and rolex on the hand that points, and often the offended party has to look something up in a dictionary to understand what names they are being called. Make sense? Aleister 12:11 5-8-14
Yes it makes perfect sense. And I agree with Spike too. One more suggestion is that we need to target the sort of people who would want to read Uncyclopedia. Therefore make it look more like an interview with a page 3 girl in Nuts and have a picture of Romartus in a bikini flashing his baps just next to the warning about nudity. Romartus would pose daily. One more minor change idea for accuracy, in family change 'will encounter fierce resistance' to 'will usually encounter fierce resistance'. I, for two, try to be nice in some articles, and some pages I've worked on were changed to a horrible condition because the pages primary author needed to vent some sort of mucus. Thanks. Sorry mate. Although out of the pictures on offer to choose from, I think you'll agree that this picture was the most child-friendly to publish here. Sir ScottPat (converse) White Ensign Scotland Flag 1 Compassrose VFH UnS NotM WotM WotY 12:48, August 5, 2014 (UTC)

I suggest instead that we change "encounter fierce resistance" to "encounter resistance" — the phrase used again in age range. Nagging us for doing what we do will probably be met more fiercely than doing something that is not what we do, but it's not quantifiable. Regarding "usually," resistance is not fierce if it's intermittent. The resulting wording should not be taken as a guarantee that any specific editor will encounter resistance. "Gratuitous nudity and gore". To make sure that we are not encouraging porn either. Also regards gore, as long as it is fake as in a movie and not people posting up death camp photos and alike. --LaurelsRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 13:21, August 5, 2014 (UTC)
I could be wrong but I'm sure holocaust photos have been used on Uncyclopedia articles. Sir ScottPat (converse) White Ensign Scotland Flag 1 Compassrose VFH UnS NotM WotM WotY 13:22, August 5, 2014 (UTC)
Hmm..Were they shock images? --LaurelsRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 14:44, August 5, 2014 (UTC)

This is a good introductory text overall, but one of the things it does, in its current shape, is to significantly narrow Uncyclopedia's audience. Imagine what an average reader, who is not familiar with uncy will get from this text: children and teenagers (everyone who is immature) will mostly probably get resistance while editing the site; parents (or just any users) won't know at which moment their child (or themselves) might stumble upon porn or shock content and they won't be able to do anything about it, if that content serves some unknown comedic purpose or has history; those who don't pick usernames might get their contributions deleted with no explanation whatsoever...

If, before I found out about Uncyclopedia, I would have read this on the Wikia site, I am not sure I would have been very interested in joining it.

Yet, if we want to warn users about what they can't do here, it is extremely simple to leave a few phrases for don't's and other warnings at the end of the text and not make them a recurrent theme throughout (the way it currently is). What do you think? Oh, and please forgive my criticism! Anton (talk) Uncyclopedia United 14:06, August 5, 2014 (UTC)

Genius idea. Instead of stereotyping on ages we should be more specific on what humour we don't appreciate. Random, immature humour is not encouraged as it does not fit in line with the parody effect. Or just make it all positive and don't mention what we prohibit which means more people will want to give a try and we can teach them the rules when they get here. A straitjacket or a bouncy castle approach? --LaurelsRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 14:46, August 5, 2014 (UTC)
Both! Bouncy castle entrance and then the minute they step in, the Romartus Bikini wallpaper swivels around to reveal the straitjacket uniform. Sir ScottPat (converse) White Ensign Scotland Flag 1 Compassrose VFH UnS NotM WotM WotY 14:48, August 5, 2014 (UTC)

How about

Parent Page Lifestyle:

participants = Anyone who wants to. Users are advised to pick a user name and register, as in that case they will be given more support and their contributions are not deleted except with explanation and advice. (Special note: Wikia and Uncyclopedia have different username databases, so if you have a Wikia user name, it won't necessarily work on Uncyclopedia.)

content = A humour encyclopedia, superficially resembling Wikipedia.

family = No. Readers may encounter articles that parody any political beliefs, celebrity individuals, religions and personal values. Gratuitous nudity and gore, that serves no humor purpose, is discouraged and will be removed.

parent = Unfunny content can be nominated at Votes For Deletion. On content that is funny but too mature for a reader, the community is flatly uninterested in shielding or counseling the reader.

age range = Any. The community would not declare a person unwelcome on the basis of age. However, the management encourages adult humor, involving clever writing and using illustrations mostly to support the imitative effect; and discourages immature humor, toilet humor, and shock humor.

Suggestions: if you disagree with my version, here is my advice: let's concentrate on the positive aspects, for instance, users of all age are welcome and won't be refused into the community, but they are encouraged to write articles with clever humor (which is a benefit). Anton (talk) Uncyclopedia United 11:52, August 17, 2014 (UTC)

I am not sure about 'all ages'. Perhaps 16+ at least but I think it was informally 12+ which seems a bit too young. --LaurelsRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 14:31, August 19, 2014 (UTC)
Well, my suggestion would be to emphasize the fact that we judge contributions, not users and that any editor is welcome if he is able to contribute intelligently. Anton (talk) Uncyclopedia United 14:47, August 19, 2014 (UTC)
