I don't know whether it's the time of year (Winter Olympics being an excuse to bunk work) but recently this site has felt considerably more active than usual. I wouldn't be surprised if someone found some data charts off wikia that showed an increase in activity. We seem to get a lot more new users staying such as Macboswell and KickAssAndGiggle and a lot of the regulars have been quite active. I'm sure we'll all agree it's good to see. Personally I feel Uncyclopedia could make a come-back and be a site taken as a serious (in one sense of the word, not the other) comedy site. It's a good sign ScottPat and the recent return to active admin duty by Mhaille and Frosty allows others who prefer to write than do all the vandal bashing stuff to work on new articles, polish up existing ones and encourage new writers. The great Sog1970 who has rarely appeared in any dramathon debates but has contributed hugely to this site would get my vote if we get to 'Writer of the Decade' in January 2016. --LaurelsRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 11:24, February 21, 2014 (UTC)
Yes, thank you Frosty and Mhaille for being more active recently. Helps a lot. I was thinking the other day that Uncyclopedian or Writer of the Decade would be very tough to do as most of the writers and Uncyclopedians over the decade are inactive and not many can remember them so would be extremely difficult to do. Writer of the Decade could be done by reading articles I suppose. I don't want to be a killjoy but I think there's no point in doing Writer/Uncyclopedian of the Decade as we just have to accept that people come and go on this website and the user base seems to change every couple of years (bar a few veterans). I'm not really one to judge though, not having been here that long. I definitely agree that Sog1970 would be my choice for best writer ever from what I've seen. In the tradition of UNC, there will be vote on whether decade awards should be considered in late 2015 unless the world is hit by an asteroid or Google buys the planet. --LaurelsRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 11:46, February 21, 2014 (UTC)
I found a link to some statistics for usage of the site [1]. The number of active users has gone down by about 30 since January apparently! But I suppose there is an increase in regulars currently, which the data can't show. Number of users and pages are forever increasing. Our efforts to delete non-funny pages has caused a slight drop in the number of articles in the past few days but it's generally still increasing. We did have a Uncyclopedia:Writer_of_the_5.5_Years back in 2010 (don't ask), so maybe that could become a regular thing? -- Sir Mhaille Icons-flag-gb (talk to me)
Yes that sounds more like an Uncyc-style competition and it is about the right time length too. Sir ScottPat (converse) White Ensign Scotland Flag 1 Compassrose VFH UnS NotM WotM WotY 13:55, February 21, 2014 (UTC)
I don't think you can really judge on who is the best writer and Writer of the Decade would just be too fake. I agree that Sog1970 is a great writer, but I cannot say that he is a better writer than many others (both retired and still active). It may sound cliché but all the writers write in their own style and so it is impossible to judge on who is better. So for all these reasons, we should definitely determine the Writer of the Decade and even the Best Writer on Uncyclopedia and Elsewhere, as this seems like the best thing we could possibly do. I hope you agree with me. Anton (talk) 11:31, February 24, 2014 (UTC)
On a serious note, I started a list of all the Uncyclopedia's great writers, but decided not to name anyone, because I am too scared to leave out someone and I am sure that there are plenty of very talented writers amongst users whom I haven't read. Anton (talk) 11:45, February 24, 2014 (UTC)
