Ok, here's an idea, don't know if it's been done before or not... How about an award for "Nominator / Voter of the month"? Seems to me that we are out for the pursuit of shiny things, often via the voting process, but those poor buggers who actually do the voting do not appear to be getting the recognition they so richly deserve.

It looks like it would not be too hard to tell who won at the end of the month as the results of the voting process are available after each vote has finished. If you backed a winner you get a score. Perhaps a smaller score for a vote on something which succeeded in VFH, and maybe more points for voting on other things like N00b/writer of the month.

There might be some problems with this in that people might end up voting on something/someone when it was obvious that they were going to win just to get the score without actually putting in the required research to make the vote genuine, so maybe something could be done to prevent this from happening... Maybe the first person to vote on a VFH gets 10 points, the next 9, then 8 and so on until anyone who votes after it's got 10 points does not actually get any points. People who make nominations could be rewarded with a larger score than those who just voted.

If you vote for something which does not make it then you could be given a negative score, though I think this might have to be smaller than the reward for backing a winner, we don't want to put people of voting in case they get it wrong.

I don't know if this might work, and could cause other problems (I'm not sure). But encouraging people to vote has got to be a good idea, and could (perhaps) cut down on some of the possibly questionable voting which might go on...

We could also publish a league table of voters performances each month?

Just an idea, what do people think? MrN Icons-flag-gb HalIcon.png WhoreMrn.png Fork you! 17:47, Dec 5

I think we have far too many awards as it is. —Hinoa talk.kun 19:56, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
Agreed there do appear to be quite a lot of awards. I just wondered if my suggestion might improved the number of votes, quality and perhaps relavance of the others. MrN Icons-flag-gb HalIcon.png WhoreMrn.png Fork you! 20:05, Dec 5
Next time you should just create it as a userspace thing, because I know that if you talk about it here people are just gonna go: NOOB! MORE AWARDZ??!! THAT IS TEH SUXXORZ!!   Le Cejak <-> (Dec 5 @ 20:11)
Got to agree with Hinoa. The awards thing is getting a bit tedious IMO. RabbiTechno 20:13, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
Thanks, for the advice Cajek. I'm happy for people to call me whatever they want however. I agree that there are too many awards and that some people are sick of them. That's my point also. If the current awards could be taken a bit more seriously then perhaps people might not be so sick of the ones we have. It's not like this award will require any more voting (by definition). It's just a suggestion which could (possibly) make the current voting process better. Don't call it an award if that makes a difference. But we could still publish some sort of statistics which indicate voters long term voting patterns. MrN Icons-flag-gb HalIcon.png WhoreMrn.png Fork you! 20:40, Dec 5
No way, man. I'm not wearing a radio collar again. Sir Modusoperandi Boinc! 20:42, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
Your third paragraph should've been a clue as to the badness of the idea. It's like you went to debate that the Earth was flat, got halfway through your intro, proved that the Earth was a cube, but continued on anyway. Odd. Plus you're funny looking and your mother dresses you funny. But I digress. Sir Modusoperandi Boinc! 20:41, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
Pfft, everyone knows the earth is a tetrahedron. And more awards might make uncyc explode. You can always try making the award in Userspace and asking Tom Mayfair to put it on his template for you. - P.M., WotM, & GUN, Sir Led Balloon Baloon(Tick Tock) (Contribs) 21:38, Dec 5
I think the biggest problem is making the stupid point system automatic. The mods have enough to do, rather than go around counting peoples votes. - UnIdiot | GUN | Talk | Contribs - 01:21, Dec 6
I think you people fail to realise that our Universe collapsed upon itself the moment THIS was created. Finnius.png
