This was originally taken from Forum:Ban Patrol???, but I decided to copy it here.

Although Famine is blocking users for being dicks, I honestly think he is guilty of violating the same rule that he enforces. Rather than blocking users with expiry times that are worthy of their actions (as described in UN:BAN), he is blocking users with the main reason being that he does not like the users involved. One such example is with Kip the Dip. Although Kip can be annoying and somethings violates rules, he is more of a minor problem than a major nuisance and even contributes sometimes (although not much). Manforman has written a lot of featured material, although he has messed with silly forum topics in the past and causes some minor drama.

Essentally, what I'm trying to say here are the following:

  1. Admins were given their powers for a reason: to protect and serve the people, not to use their powers to gain leverage in personal disputes or rule Uncyclopedia.
  2. Don't be a dick, even if you are an admin.
  3. Don't ban useful contributors just because they like flamewarring.
  4. Our goal is to be funny and entertain our readers, not be stupid and scare them off.
  5. The average reader usually doesn't care about the internal workings and policies of Uncyclopedia.

If Uncyclopedia can't understand these rules, then it has failed to live up to its purpose and I have no business being here. --Sir Starnestommy Icons-flag-us (TalkContribsCUNCapt.) 21:46, November 3, 2007

Sorry Famine, but your bans have recently been WAY out of line. Infinite bans are for people who fill their contrib lists with vandalism, not contributions. Don't be a dick. -- Village IdiotKUN Free Speech 22:01, 3 November 2007 (UTC)
I also forgot to add this: banning otherwise good contributors solely for being overly dramatic only causes more drama. --Sir Starnestommy Icons-flag-us (TalkContribsCUNCapt.) 22:40, November 3, 2007
What if your Drama Counter is near full? With Ban Patrol, VFH and UGotM megadrama episodes under his belt, Manforman has little room for dramatic improvements.
Nevertheless, I still agree with most of your points. The odd numbered points, especially. --Littleboyonly TKFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK Oldmanonly 02:12, 4 November 2007 (UTC)
We do have to make sure drama is not encouraged, of course. There comes a point when too much drama just outweighs any number of good contributions. The question is working out whether certain people have crossed that line. --Strange (but) Untrue  Whhhy?Whut? How? *Back from the dead* 02:42, 4 November 2007 (UTC)
First and foremost, no one is above the site. The good of Uncyclopedia has to come first. In the past we have made difficult decisions over talented, but confrontational, contributors, and though I would always regret losing any decent writer, sometimes that is the price you have to pay.
Having said that, I'm not adverse to a little drama on the site. We are a community who have wrapped ourselves around a satire website. As with any community we will have disagreements, arguments, personality clashes, etc. As long as we can see passed this for the common good we do well, but sometimes admins are called in to deal with these situations and need to make the hard choices. Mostly I think we get it right, and if we don't, we can always change the decision later. On a Wiki, nothing is set in stone.
With regards to infibans, I do use them in what I consider deserving cases, though I would be reluctant to use them on "established" users and decent contributors unless they had serious cause to impliment the final solution. For an established user who loves working on this site a month may seem like a long sentence, three months may feel like banishment. We DO need to make sure that the punishment fits the crime. In the case of the "guilty" listed above they HAVE had numerous warnings, and I can appreciate you can only give people so many chances, perhaps we need to impliment a probationary sentence on some individuals. A one more incident and the ban returns/is doubled/etc policy. -- Sir Mhaille Icons-flag-gb (talk to me)
I got banned for a month by Famine. That sparked drama. Now, I feel lucky that I didn't get an infiniban, like some other users. User:Uncyclopedian/sig

Hang on, hang on...Are we arguing again? AGAIN? We have people stating backup plans to leave, one has left or has threatened to leave recently (Not sure which) and another on has fucked off without trace. Why can't we shut up, stop whinging and get on with our lives? Yes Famine banned someone for too long, so what? It's Famine, what do you expect? Just knock the ban down to something reasonable and lets concentrate on doing what we should be doing here; writing good stuff, having a laugh and keeping the bellends out. You just scared the hell out of me. Having people "made examples of" is not a comforting term. We see IP's banned for two weeks for vandalism, users banned for 27 years for slander, and regulars infinibanned for arguing. Sure it's annoying, and yes want to stop it, but we don't make Uncyclopedia for us. We make Uncyclopedia for the readers, the readers who are not, in any way, affected by this. Why can't we deal with irritating users personally, like banning them for a week and then discussing the ban and possible solutions/punishments on their talk page instead of banning them for eternity on a whim? The only people who will see these examples are the regulars who know the users, and from what I've seen we are none too happy about this. Sig_pic.PNG Unsolicited conversation Extravagant beauty PEEING 15:28, 4 November 2007 (UTC)
That's not what I said. Looking up the ban reason now: "No more flame wars." - not allowed. It's like, say Santa Claus went out and murdered 300 people, would he not go to prison because he was a good contributor to the world? That ban was a wake up call, no one is an exception, and it's like Mhaille said, no one is above uncyclopedia - not even the admins. Famine was given the power because he is a good contributor to the site and still to this day keeps the site's best interests in mind. —Braydie 15:30, 4 November 2007 (UTC) Conflict: I understand he got warnings though? right? —Braydie 15:30, 4 November 2007 (UTC) Conflict again, bonner: Another thing with admins, if they want the discussion (I can't see this being an argument because I don't think anyone will not like someone because of this) to carry on, they'll leave the forum open, if they don't, they'll lock - and because of me saying that it leads to be locked, you guys need to sort it out and wake up a bit quicker. —Braydie 15:30, 4 November 2007 (UTC)
I think you may misunderstand my point Braydie...recently there have been arguments over this, that and the other on the forums; too much whoring, people threatening to leave, inappropriate content, people leaving and writing long annoying leaving messages and now this. I'm actually sick of it all. It actually feels like Uncyc has gone to shit recently and I just want us to stop arguing over things like this and get on with what we should be doing here. Look at the ban logs for Manforman, Kip the Dip &Radioactive afikomen. I'm sorry if this sounds harsh, but both M4M and Kip's ban logs show a consistent pattern of not-silly, semi-serious, and serious bans, so fuck them. RA appears to have only one ban and as such he should probably get a warning and a reduced sentence, IMO. IMO! Woo! (that last bit was for TLB). Sir Modusoperandi Boinc! 16:12, 4 November 2007 (UTC)
Yay! I feel loved! But seriously, I'm against banning any useful contributors infinitely. Unless someone goes on a blanking spree or seriously starts insulting everyone(and I mean like telling admins and other users to fuck off for no reason), there's no reason to give em eternity. Of course, I must admit that I am extremely biased against Famine. But my opinion stands. - P.M., WotM, & GUN, Sir Led Balloon Baloon(Tick Tock) (Contribs) 18:55, Nov 4

I think everyone should calm the fuck down

What is it, three forums now? People calling for Famine to be deopped, others threatening to leave, ENOUGH!

Each of those three users can send an email to Famine and discuss it with him, or they can contact any other admin via IRC. Famine will not be deopped, nor will any sort of committee be established. Famine is doing his job, and has been doing it for decades, and very efficiently so. He has the first and foremost line of defense against Drama. If he's too harsh sometimes, well, that's him. But he can always be reasoned with. Did someone try to, except for posting forums all over the place? Here's my suggestion of the day:

  1. Forget about deopping. Not going to happen.
  2. Talk with the man, don't pester him.
  3. Let the banned users talk with him and reason with him.
  4. Instead of threatning to leave if this and this is not carried out, try to extighuish the drama that has been ruining the place, once again.

My two Agorot. That's the Israeli version of Cents. Doesn't worth shit. ~Jewriken.GIF 18:29, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

I think these are all good suggestions, but the only problem I see with getting people to talk with Famine is that he never users IRC and I don't think email is fast enough for conversation. --Sir Starnestommy Icons-flag-us (TalkContribsCUNCapt.) 18:31, November 4, 2007
Conversation? "What did I do?"..."[Link to ban summary], explanation."...then either "Oh, I'm sorry. I won't let it happen again. Forgive?" or "Screw you! *Pout*". That's, what, three emails? The timeout would do good for all involved, methinks. Sir Modusoperandi Boinc! 18:36, 4 November 2007 (UTC)
I have found that it's actually more complicated than that. In my experience doing peer mediation, I have found that simple disputes often take a lot of effort to resolve. I think what we really need is some sort of court system. --Sir Starnestommy Icons-flag-us (TalkContribsCUNCapt.) 18:42, November 4, 2007
Aren't you just trying to make things more complicated, vis a vis, desimplificating what could (and should) be the opposite of labyrinthian? I mean, look at your shoes. Laces? Pshaw! Velcro is the future. Sir Modusoperandi Boinc! 19:02, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

You fucking people

Okay, so we all know that nobody is above the rules whether they be a "good contributor" or administrator, but I think most of us (with the exception of maybe Braydie and Modusoperandi) can agree that the bans warranted to the three aforementioned users are unnecessary, excessive, and should be reconsidered. Users have engaged in more hostile flamewars before and have received less severe bans than the ones Famine gave to these users. Yes, Famine is an excellent administrator and I highly respect him, but that doesn't mean his judgment isn't to be questioned especially in this situation. So, I say we stop arguing over frivolous things and work on getting those three contributors back into the Uncyclopedia community. --Hotadmin4u69 [TALK] 19:15, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

Why don't we all shut up now

Like adopt-a-noob for admins? I don't think a system like that can help us since we're not nearly as admin-happy as Wikipedia is. Since we have the users vote on the admins, only well-established users can become admins (unless a b-crat goes nuts). Sig_pic.PNG Unsolicited conversation Extravagant beauty PEEING 21:35, 4 November 2007 (UTC)
True, but how many of them have ever been admins before? From what I understand, it seems pretty different from regular userdom. After all, the admins are above everyone else. - P.M., WotM, & GUN, Sir Led Balloon Baloon(Tick Tock) (Contribs) 00:18, Nov 5
Oh, so you meant that the experienced admins should train the freshman admins. The Wikipedia page actually pertains to experienced users training admin wannabes, not admins training admins. That would be a good system, but how many admins would actually be willing to do it? With our relatively low number of active admins their job is time-consuming enough as it is. You all seem to miss the point

*Infinite* is not infinite. Infinite *can* be infinite, but it doesn't have to be. Infinite can be "until you tell me why it shouldn't be, and swear on your grandma's sagging teats that you'll be good", it can be "until an admin takes pity on you", it can be "until I think it's been plenty long enough". There have been dozens of "infinite" bans which were lifted minutes, days, and months after they were given.

"Infinite", for well-established users, has traditionally been "you've done something very bad, and we're going to discuss and debate your future while you sweat it out".

When I start banning for flame-warring and drama, the proper response, and I look directly at you Starnestommy and Leoispotter, is NOT to stir up more with flame-filled posts in various places. If you have issues, by all means address them. Talk to me. Ask me my motivations.

Don't just fan the flames, call me a dick, and stir up more drama. Did you think that was helping? Bone_F_clear.png Sir Famine, Gun Petition » 11/05 23:00
