Logos

So, as most of you probably noticed, I tried to make a new logo the other day/week/something. That was actually meant to go with a vector skin, but for some reason I thought it'd be funny to replace the normal logo with a brighter version of that... not really sure what happened after, but now the one you saw (not the orange one, the brown one) is the intended for vector after all. Question is, should we have a separate one for the two skins? Wikipedia doesn't, but the orange one, which people seemed to prefer here, looks really bad on vector.

That said, I was going though the project logos - Game, HowTo, UnTunes, etc... changed some, didn't others, and others still could probably use replacing/cleaning up, and most of them could also use slogans (or need their existing slogans found or made more applicable). Question is, do we want to display these slogans on the pages as a sitesub as wikipedia does, or only for certain projects (like how wikipedia does, wikinews does not, etc)? Or not at all, as we have been doing of late?

Oh, and I do have a way to set the logos in the fake namespaces, but we may want to turn most of them into namespaces anyway just for organisation's sake. But we can worry about that later.

I can see no harm in people trying to improve the site. On this occasion it looks like we will probably stick with the old forum logo, but Lollipop's efforts are appreciated, even if not successful this time. MrN  Fork you! 16:42, Jun 6

That's what I meant to say but weasels were eating Frank Zappas dead flesh and I paid a lot to the guy who set it up to watch. Most of the logos seem fine to me at least, well designed, and well used. It's like when Tiger Woods won a thousand championships, and then his coaches said "Tiger, why don't we take a year to change your swing?" and he went along with it. Now his knee is the consistency of sawdust, but he changed his swing! Bad example, but I guess I'm concentrating on the slogan and not the logos, so my thoughts are befuddled by progress. I think we can all appreciate the time and effort that you've put into attempting to improve our logos, and of course, your efforts aren't ignored. But I don't really know how else to say it. It doesn't look photoshopped, it looks, well, MS Painted. Most image editors give you dozens of tools to make sure your edits don't actually look like you've ripped pixels out of one image and put it into another - blending and shadowing and color adjustments and such. Maybe the Reefer Desk would be good for you if you're really interested in image editing, but really, I'd leave the logos to people who have a little bit more... image experience than you. – Sir Skullthumper, MD (criticize • writings • formspring) 00:16 Jun 07, 2011

All of the subtle opinions aside, no, Lollipop your efforts here are not unmitigated shit. While the images youve posted now won't be voted for any time soon, theres no reason why you shouldn't post them, or keep trying to improve on them. Dont listen to anyone who tells you to STOP. They are suggestions after all. And while the image for village dump you posted isnt' up to standard, its not a half bad idea. A good image of a dump truck dumping out potatoes, if done well would be a great logo. I actually quite like it. The only thing you gotta look at is the fact that on the letters that say "Unforum" and on the potato the light is coming from the top right, but on the question mark it's coming from the bottom, and on the exclamation point there's not any light at all! Lest I receive unwarranted credit, let me clarify that I didn't make up Sophia - she initially manifested herself in the original Uncyc logo, which you can see here: Uncyclopedia:Community_Portal/archive2#Logo_Contest! UnBooks logo saying

Maybe I didn't notice it before, but did the UnBooks logo always read "Empty books for an empty world" or is that new? I don't remember it. New or old, please let's change it, way too pessimistic to put in place of the potato in articles (and how can we get back the potato logo on pages where the thing is just ugly?) I like the old UnBooks logo much more than the new stylized nothing, the old one was at least a stack of books. Aleister 11:16 11-6-'11

It used to not read anything at all... which brings back the whole we need proper slogans thing. Butbut... it's ugly? What is happening to our wiki? A beautiful logo for uncycloveristy is going to be replaced by a stupid pic of a potato in a stockade or a box or something? Can't the seal be used for the logo? It's the same size. And all I have to try to hold back the tide of stuff is words, so I go overboard at times. You and I have the same energy in trying to help the wiki, I think, so please bear with me as I rant and tear out my hair over the slightest thing. It takes me awhile to get used to some things, and I actually like the pale potato now, so who knows, maybe in a day or so I will rant to bring back the potato in a cage and get rid of this stupid fancy-dan gay seal. I'm still confused as to which is which, though my first impression of the "box" logo was that the potato was in jail... Maybe if the potato were proportional in size, as well as standing in front of the pavilion, it wouldn't look so imprisoned. Though maybe that's what some college students feel like??? Forum

I like the logos for everything. They are done good. I'm not sure that having potatoes with torches is the best logo for the forum. Kind of keeps the whole, arguing, users vs. admins thing, angry complaining drama idea there instead of it just representing a forum. Holy crap I just noticed this

What... other template? Changing the logos in general shouldn't affect templates... custom logos will be positioned wrong in the Vector skin, however, if, like on Beige, they are positioned directly instead of using the logothing class or {{logo}}, but that's another matter entirely and I'll just go fix that on that one. *scuttles off* 1234 ~ 06:38, 16 June 2011

The first template I mentioned was {{nologo}}. The second was {{logo}}. I couldn't get {{logo}} to work, so I'll have to watch and see how you do that, because I imagine there's quite a few pages that will need that change, my userpage included. Are you using firefox 4? Because apparently half the js on the site, including and the mock namespace logos and interlanguage feature stars, doesn't work with that.
