Back in the day, votes by IPs for Feature, Deletion, NotM, etc., always counted as half a vote, while registered users got a full vote. The idea was to prevent some random people from changing the vote who didn't even have an account. And it was to help allay suspicion that a user might be getting two full votes, one as an account and one as an IP.

And that was back in the day when at least a total of 10 votes (for - against) was necessary for Feature. Now that fewer people are voting and articles get featured with a score of four, it seems to be even more important to not give equal weight to IPs/cell phones. Any user could easily mention they have an article up for VFH to a couple of friends, those friends could come and vote, and voila, your article of random excrement is now on the front page.

Was there an official change of policy, or did the policy just get lost in the spoon/fork shuffle? WHY does alden loveshade not know??? 22:01, June 15, 2018 (UTC)

I don't know the answer, I wonder too! :) AdminBadge DAP Dame Pleb Com. Miley Spears (talk) 03:00, June 27, 2018 (UTC)
I think the policy got lost in the post. We haven't had what I called 'ballot box stuffing' since before the split. So at the moment an IP vote counts as 1 rather than 1/2. --LaurelsRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 19:39, June 29, 2018 (UTC)
