I'd like a synopsis of how VFH works, because I couldn't find one anywhere else (and I really looked!) The questions I'd like answered:

  • What does VFH stand for? I get that it means "Vote for Featured Articles;" I just don't know how "VFH" came out of that.
  • What is the Darwin Rule? It's invoked very often, and I once asked for an explanation of it, only to be given a link to a subsection in the bowels of the site that made no sense at all.
  • How long does an article take to reach featured level once it's been nominated.

Here are the (possible) answers in order:
  • 1. VFH stands for "Votes for Highlight". I'm still not sure why they picked "highlight", though.
  • 2. I'm not sure exactly how it works, but I found this forum topic. That may help explain it.
  • 3. Every 24 hours, an admin will put the nomination with the most for votes on the feature queue. The articles in the queue will automatically be moved forward at 00:00 UTC each day (about 8:00 PM on the American east coast).

If I missed anything, feel free to ask more about VFH here. --Sir Starnestommy Icons-flag-us (TalkContribsCUNCapt.) 02:48, August 11, 2007

I think Starnestommy's forum topic has a link to this, but for #2, there's this. Basically, the Darwin rule keeps VFH from getting overloaded with articles, giving the younger pages a chance to gain more votes while slowly whittling away at the slightly older pages. In short, if you have a page up for VFH, it's the single most horrible thing you could ever imagine. P.M., WotM, & GUN, Sir Led Balloon Baloon(Tick Tock) (Contribs) 02:50, 11 August 2007 (UTC)
