I am a very ignorant person. I began editing here about two months ago and heard about the fork for the first time only one month later. Then I found out that there is also a mirror. Yesterday I finally went to the wikipedia page about uncyclopedia and this cleared up the situation for me. However, I did not understand why we need the mirror.

Today I visited both of the sites, looked through their VFH and Village Dump pages and found out that:

  • The situation is really bad at the mirror and there is not even a featured article on the main page, as probably nobody edits it.
  • It is better at the fork but a lot of users complain about others' apathy which does not allow the site to work properly.

My opinion is that:

  • Our site is in a very good condition compared to others.
  • I like it and do not find any of the wikia's policies annoying. I am sure that the fact that wikia owns the site cannot hamper its future in any way.
  • We still need more help and more users.

Can't we talk with the editors and the admins on the other sites about the situation? If all the three uncycs ever get reunited. Then the affairs will be probably a way better. The only thing they seem to reuse to have is the content warning, but this problem is solved, isn't it?

If I said something irrelevant or silly, you will probably excuse me, as I said that I am a very ignorant person (sometimes). Anton (talk) 10:26, July 3, 2013 (UTC)

Ah no, it's fine to be curious... But I have a few, disheartening notes. The split is permanent until further notice. Too many admins left. Plus, they control IRC, a resource underutilized by us. Zombiebaron, the SysAdmin of the fork, and others, express strongly a desire to stay away from Wikia, due to advertising, and the content warning, and some other factors. Also, ChiefjusticeDS and a fork Sysop (admin) fought, causing a further split of the two groups. Now, I edit both sites, as said on my userpage. One particular fork sysop who I've been in touch with, says that the whole thing is stupid, and that uncyc should be whole again. Of course, a reuniting is unlikely at this point, lest I or someone else can somehow convince ZB and the other admins to rejoin... which is, again, unlikely. A personal note to you Anton, is that I'm fine with you editing either site, just do it unbiasedly, like I do. --The Shield of Azunai DSA510My Edits! 10:50, July 3, 2013 (UTC)
I guess this proves that I'm more ignorant than Anton :/ Also Uncyclopedia had more drama than I thought. LaurelsV V I P ® 11:12, July 3, 2013 (UTC)V V I P
To V V I P: it is almost the same thing with the Russian uncyclopedia. The only difference is that the new site, not belonging to wikia, is in a good state and the wiki one does not work at all. So I edit the non-wiki one.
To DungeonSiegeAddict: thank you for your comment. You said: "advertising, and the content warning, and several other factors". Advertising was one of the principal causes of the fork being made on the Russian uncyclopedia. But, so far, I haven't noticed any ads here. Have you? Anton (talk) 11:27, July 3, 2013 (UTC)
We have had fewer dramas since the split here. Herding For Cats and Navelism will eventually reveal all one day. --LaurelsRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 13:56, July 3, 2013 (UTC)
It is easy for registered users to disable advertisements. Unregistered readers see them, though the last time I looked, they were mostly cross-selling other Wikia sites. Spıke Ѧ 14:01 3-Jul-13

A previous inquiry along these lines is at User:TheDarthMoogle/What did you do to hurt these people?

The two sites have gone in different directions. The private site is reveling in its newfound ability to dwell on toilet humor and soft porn, while we with more adult management are more concerned about producing pages that someone else would actually want to read. In fact, there are many other options for amateur comedy writing, such as Illogicopedia, for the Bat Fuck Insane style (that is, the joy of writing stuff that doesn't even make sense), and Darthopedia, which as far as I can tell is for plotting vandal attacks on other sites. It would be nice if we could be One Big Happy Family and that the events that happened before you joined could be undone, and we have maintained an open invitation for anyone from There to edit Here without the need to renounce There or take any position on anything. Contributions here are subject to having to deal with non-creative parts of the Wikia bureaucracy, but are not subject to joke bans, the need to pay server fees, the possibility that people will stop paying server fees, impose a subscription fee, or move some or all contributions behind a "pay-wall." Choose between the Suits at a corporation or the whims of temperamental private owners. Apart from that, we ought not lose sleep but just keep doing our thing. It's pretty good. Spıke Ѧ 14:01 3-Jul-13

It is. But we really need more users. Right now people who contribute the most are admins and vandals. The only project pages that are edited regularly are the VFD and the QVFD. Anton (talk) 17:10, July 3, 2013 (UTC)
I do not mention the VFH, as more votes are always needed there. Anton (talk) 17:11, July 3, 2013 (UTC)
VFH depends on contributions or re-worked articles. We have a database of 30,000+ articles. A number of articles have been featured after languishing for years here, sometimes. An example is this one Archaeology that was propelled along by a number of interested writers. --LaurelsRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 17:49, July 3, 2013 (UTC)

I was just thinking

If anyone from the fork sees this, it would look bad... cuz we are giving them less credit than they deserve. I say we wait for like... a year or two... or something. Idk... the fork is initiating site-wide cleanup projects... and there have been less so called "Toilet Humor" articles recently... So yeah... I don't know. I say we remain unbiased... and indifferent... and use a lot of whatever the hell ...'s are called... --The Shield of Azunai DSA510My Edits! 09:43, July 4, 2013 (UTC)...

And I happened to saw this. What is going on and why are you even bringing this up... Anton, we do edit our wiki and it's not in that bad shape. All those Mr-ex777 articles were a joke and you're all panicking 'oh god they used toilet humor OMG we must healp them theyr in so bad shaaape'. Like, literally. It was just joking. A joke being a joke. It wasn't a joke. But it was.
what the fuck.
Anywhoooo, this whole forum is just ridiculous. I won't talk about this anymore. I'm done with the stupid arguments of the othre side being bad. Cat the Colourful (Feed me!) Zzz Sleeping Cat 09:51, 4 July, 2013 (UTC)
I have never said that the other side was bad: I said it was in a bad shape. And the main problem is that the affairs are not brilliant at both sites and this is why we need to be reunited. Anton (talk) 10:14, July 4, 2013 (UTC)

Reunited and it feels so good

The forks will reunite some time. Its a matter of time. Give it many months or several years. Both forks are slowly starving to death from a lack of live in one way or another. One fork is free and open and but without vitality or new aritcles, the other fork is full of energy with writers but has a suffocating micro-managing top-down heavy malaise. Neither of these can last long. One simple thing that can possible speed up the forks uniting is simply mentioning the goal of reuniting some day...mentioning it a lot. Get the idea into users' heads so that it almost seems like its inevitable. --ShabiDOO 10:48, July 5, 2013 (UTC)

Uncyclopedian propaganda? Oh god no. Cat the Colourful (Feed me!) Zzz Sleeping Cat 11:07, 5 July, 2013 (UTC)
It's not propaganda, it is just future. Reuniting...reuniting...reuniting... Anton (talk) 11:20, July 5, 2013 (UTC)

Idea for a project

I created an account on the fork yesterday and began working there. I have an idea of a project which is in some way connected to the reunion: why don't we take all the articles that have recently been featured here and transport them to the fork and feature them there?

The only thing I have done so far, is transport my Probability theory and nominated on VFH. But I know at least ten other good articles. I am planning to start a new forum on the fork about it and if there will be many people interested in it, I will write an UnSignpost article (also on the fork) about it, therefore promoting the project. If it succeeds, than we can do the same project but another way round: from the fork here. What do you think about it? Anton (talk) 11:20, July 5, 2013 (UTC)

Noo no no no, that's just forking. Forking is never good. Cat the Colourful (Feed me!) Zzz Sleeping Cat 11:32, 5 July, 2013 (UTC)
Why? There will be more good quality articles on both sites. Anton (talk) 11:34, July 5, 2013 (UTC)
Weeeelll... that would mean that we'd take our featured articles and feature them on this side, just to be fair against everybody. See the problem? The sites wouldn't be the same anymore, it'd be just full of forks from all sites. And we are good enough without forked articles. I mean, well, that's just my opinion. Let's see what other think. Cat the Colourful (Feed me!) Zzz Sleeping Cat 11:37, 5 July, 2013 (UTC)
We will take the best featured articles and feature them on the other side. That makes the difference. And what I see that you do not have much good entries on VFH. What I saw when I went there is that you were about from featuring your sandbox... Anton (talk) 11:42, July 5, 2013 (UTC)
So? Jokevoting has existed since the birth of Uncyclopedia. See this, for example. Do a little researching, and you'll find more similar joke-features. That's all a part of humour, and suddenly SPIKE wants to destroy everything that is funny and sacred. That is exactly the reason why I don't edit this site that much, altough sometimes I make myself to edit because I can't stop to care. Cat the Colourful (Feed me!) Zzz Sleeping Cat 11:51, 5 July, 2013 (UTC)
It's a good idea. It's been mentioned before and done before. The shock-articles from the other fork wont get featured here as the voting trend is...but I wouldn't be surprised if most of the other articles are featured on each others fork. --ShabiDOO 11:53, July 5, 2013 (UTC)
Then I will start a forum thread there and see if people will respond. As Cat says, let's see what others think. Concerning Shabidoo's remark, you are being too harsh with the other site, as they do have good quality articles which are being featured. Anton (talk) 11:58, July 5, 2013 (UTC)

OK...before this goes the way of all dramas here, there are two websites. Users are free to be on either or neither or go outside and absorb more Vitamin D. As long as Wikia want this site, it will stay. As long as the Forkists want to carry on with their website - it will stay too. --LaurelsRomArtus*Imperator ITRA (Orate) ® 11:55, July 5, 2013 (UTC)

My opinion (Not that anyone asked for it!)

"I pooped. With my bum." ~ Oscar Wilde

Personally I think it would be great to unite the forks however I don't want this site filled with memes and toilet humour. I love clever comedy and would rather have a site that gets some global recognition of being a proper spoof website that anyone can understand and love. Therefore at the moment I think it is best to keep them apart.

To be honest we are all born with a different sense of humour and if they prefer toilet humour I'm fine with that and they can do it on their own site. Also having two sites gives a competitive feel that motivates each to be more widely recognised.

This site is better maintained and has (in my opinion) better comedy however as someone mentioned earlier it isn't one happy family but more a bunch of arrogant Cavaliers locked in a room together with one Roundhead admin maintaining everything beautifully. Although the friendship thing is improving. Sir ScottPat (talk) White Ensign Scotland Flag 1 Compassrose VFH UnS NotM WotM WotY 16:29, July 7, 2013 (UTC)

As I am present on the fork now, I can say that they do have some memes and toilet humor but it is not as bad as we all say. The majority of them try and do create good humorous articles. And I raised up the reuniting question seeing the problems that all of us got right now. Anton (talk) 17:05, July 7, 2013 (UTC)
Okay, Pat or Scotty or whoever, at the fork we don't actually go around creating "toilet humour" all the time, some of us do actually like creating funny and clever articles and I just think you guys are putting us down because a couple of users like using the word "butt". You don't look at or recognise the good articles because you are all too far up your own arses SPIKE's arse. IFYMB! (talk)
I just said the same thing but more politely. And you, guys, at the fork, stop saying that we are Spike's slaves. It became a trite. Nobody controls us. User:Anton199/sig/Parody/Spike 17:36, July 7, 2013 (UTC) (Signature parodies)
The only reason why you are against Spike is that he is strict about writing good-quality humor (and which is a good thing). User:Anton199/sig/Parody/Spike 17:38, July 7, 2013 (UTC)(Signature parodies)
Quality is in the eyes of the readers and voters, not simply one user. I write tons of bathroom humour on both wikis, though it's still a small amount of my over-all writing. There's nothing wrong with bathroom humour. Take a look at the history of uncyclopedia's articles. There's simply a small minority of a few users who are being extremely vocal against it recently and taking on an air of supreme cultivation in humour and all things well written and crafty. Never let anyone dictate to you what is funny and what is mater how often and agressively they state their opnion as fact. There's nothing wrong with bathroom humour on a comedy website. --ShabiDOO 17:41, July 7, 2013 (UTC)
For God sake all of you I didn't say I thought toilet humour was bad comedy, I said it was not my taste of comedy. I don't care if you want to do toilet humour, that's fine by me. Although I appreciate that toilet humour can be funny sometimes however seeing as I don't find it too amusing I am happy to have one site where there is much less of it. This is not going to make this site more friendly if you agressively attack everything I say because you misunderstand me. *Denza farts toward wikia Huh? Allright, my opinion is that some toilet humor is fine. Too much, and we might as well call ourselves Encyclopedia Dramatica. Anyhow, thats my opinion on that aspect. Also, all the buttsex Mr-ex777 articles that were featured on the fork, were part of a large inside joke. Its back to normal (with a few exceptions) nominations in their VFH. --The Shield of Azunai DSA510My Edits! 19:36, July 7, 2013 (UTC)
Wise words from DungeoinSiegeAddict. As for ScottPat...I don't think this conversation had much to do anymore with your original message nor was much directed to you in particular. Since you mentioned the mirror

The mirror was set up by an individual when Uncyc was purchased by Wikia back in the early mists of time. It is now being used as an archive of Uncyclopedia - updated just prior to January this year, when the sites forked. As there are two sites that have a claim to the name Uncyclopedia, and they both have differing content, it would take the wisdom of Solomon to determine what version of what page belongs where. It also would be near impossible to delineate which revision is from which site. The other thing is as an archive it retains a lot of content that has previously been deleted from one or both of these sites. Being an archive it's kept there for anyone to try and find diamonds in the rough. Given there are two Uncyc sites now - and admins can access deleted material - the mirror has lost much of it's purpose. (I'll have to get back to setting up the front page to do historical features at some stage. Thanks for the reminder.)                               Puppy's talk page08:46 07 Jul 2013

Ok. Thanks for the explanation! But if it just serves as an archive, then why do we need to do features there? Anton (talk) 06:42, July 8, 2013 (UTC)
Features are displayed based upon a DPL that confirms that there is a featured queued for a date, and then goes back to up to a week prior. It's more than a week since the site was updated (properly) so it's looking for something that doesn't exist. Changing it to not look for that update means it will mean I'm breaking the archive of that formula, which I'm deliberately avoiding because I want the archived wiki-fu to remain accurate. Or - in other words - our main page as of the update included the latest feature, which is now out of date. Or - in even less words - because I said so.                               Puppy's talk page10:39 08 Jul 2013
Ok. I used the mirror once in order to get a file which I lost here. Anton (talk) 11:43, July 8, 2013 (UTC)
