Uncyclopedia has many hilarious articles, and a lot of fantastic writers. BUT, we also have an amazingly high amount of crappy, random, unfunny articles that need fixing. It seems that many of those writers concentrate most on writing new pages rather than rewriting old ones, as evidenced by the massive size of the rewrite category. So I have a suggestion that I think might do a hell of a lot of good for uncylopedia's overall quality (if enough of our writers participated), and might inspire less people to misunderstand what our site is about. What if we set aside a week devoted to a mass quality cleanup of our website, sort of like Forest Fire Week, except more like a forest regeneration week. We have enough good writers to greatly improve our site, if enough of them are willing to commit. This could come with a possible award template for the person who does the highest number of quality rewrites over the course of the week, if this could provide a better incentive. This is just a suggestion, of course, and I'm not saying we should do this next week, or anything. It could also be done in conjunction with a sort of Forest Fire Week, in which irredeemable articles that nobody rewrites can be slaughtered mercilessly. Just an idea I thought I'd toss out there. If we got enough people to do it, I think it would be a major improvement of our site's overall quality, especially considering how many great writers we now have, and the fact that Oscar Wilde and Mr. T. jokes are no longer the norm. Whaddya think? --THE 01:28, 31 August 2007 (UTC)

As long as by "rewrite" people don't automatically throw everything out and replace it with their (obviously all funnier) stuff, as is the trend with rewrites these days. There's a probably reason these articles are in the rewrite category, not the vfd category. •Spang•☃•talk• 04:57, 31 Aug 2007
I have made a thingy to better the cause! Or, at least, to help people brag about bettering the cause.

This user rewrote {{{1}}} page for Conservation Week, because s/he cares. How many have you rewritten, huh?
The part that says "Rewrite-a-thon" links to this page. If you want, feel free to take the code from here and make the template your own. Personalize, and whatnot. P.M., WotM, & GUN,Sir Led Balloon(Tick Tock)(Contribs) 17:29, Aug 31, 2007
Ah, I like the template, thanks. I was thinking of making one of those myself, but you got to it first. And I definately agree with Spang that any funny material from the old page should be kept. A rewrite doesn't always need to be rebuilt from the ground up. --THE 19:40, 31 August 2007 (UTC)
So, when should it start, and how long should it run for? --THE 20:12, 31 August 2007 (UTC)
No time like the present? Lets say it'll start tomorrow or Sunday, and run for, I dunno, 3 weeks? That sound reasonable? P.M., WotM, & GUN,Sir Led Balloon(Tick Tock)(Contribs) 20:20, Aug 31, 2007
Yeeeah! Sounds perfect. We can start it tomorrow, and three weeks sounds like an excellent stretch of time. Some sort of mainpage template similar to the Poo lit suprise one would be nifty for getting more users to participate (/me looks at admins hopefully) but that isn't absolutely necessary. --THE 20:45, 31 August 2007 (UTC)
I'm making a little page to organize this effort a little more right here. The name can be changed if you want. Take a poll, even. ~
The one thing is something just doesn't fit with the name to me...Rewrite-a-thon just doesn't stick... Also why did you erase two entries for the thing? They were valid. I'm reverting those two back. ~
Okay, conservation week is fine. I removed those entries because I figured the scorekeeping section would just be for articles that were already rewritten, or in the process of being rewritten. But in hindsight, calling articles in advance is probably a good idea, so two people won't try to rewrite the same article. --THE 12:12, 2 September 2007 (UTC)
People who would be willing to participate if we go through with this
Because if I'm the only one who'd be fixing up articles, it wouldn't be particularly impressive. --THE 01:28, 31 August 2007 (UTC)
My idea, so obviously I'd be participating. --THE 01:28, 31 August 2007 (UTC)
Rewrites are all me, baby. Adolf Hitler, Bill Gates, you name it. I don't mean to brag, but four of my eight features are rewrites. I dunno how much I can contribute, but I'll try. --Hotadmin4u69[TALK] 01:43, 31 August 2007 (UTC)
I'd do one if it wasn't to awful, but not so good--SirManforman 13:35, 31 August 2007 (UTC)
I'm going back to university tomorrow (I'm returning from a year out), so I don't know how much time I'll end up spending here, but if I do venture back to distract myself from my studies I'll give it a go. I'm working on a rewrite at the moment, after all. --15Mickey20(talk to Mickey) 14:17, 31 August 2007 (UTC)
Count me in. I just finished the initial draft of long article and I'm at loose ends, so I'll start right now. I'll log my score on my userpage. Eat my dust...er, eat my verbiage...eat my revisions...my revisionism...er, eat my change...but leave me the quarters so's I can get a beer later....er...*/trails off incoherently...----OEJ 14:44, 31 August 2007 (UTC) (Later: Dmitri Mendeleev and Copper stool rehabilitated.)
I hate to say yes, because then, inevitably, whenever we hold this thing, I'll be busy / my Internet will explode / I'll forget how to speak English / etc. But anyway, if anybody's interested, I'm working on 42 (very slowly) and The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (because it sucks, and how can you have a Hitchhiker's article that sucks?). –SirSkullthumper,MD(criticize•writings•formspring) 21:17 Aug 31, 2007
Sure, I have been planning on reworking a number of aviation/weather-related articles. - Admiral Enzo Aquarius-Dial the Gate 23:15, 31 August 2007 (UTC)

I'm still a noob, so rewrites will probably be the best place for me to get started on here. I'm in, but I can't promise a laugh-a-minute. I can, however, promise that my rewrites will be almost obsessively free from grammatical errors. I am Boomer.Speak to the Boomsta.Seriously.Do it. 01:28, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
I'm working on a rewrite for the U.S. and I have a few ideas for some other crappy articles.--Scott 05:31, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
I'll give it a shot. Or a volley. Or a fusillade. Pieface 12:36, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
Okay everyone, it's on. Have fun now! --THE 22:16, 2 September 2007 (UTC)
This discussion is minorly old, but I just want to say this is a great alternative to Forest Fire Week, and I am glad we havent turned back to it in a moment of desperation. I would have joined in this earlier, if not for the whole college starting thing, but I will go all out tomorrow and try and see what I can do. ~Sir RangeleyGUNWotMUotMEGA+S (talk) 00:51, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
