Any reference to the Dutch instantly inspires thoughts of dykes.

The Netherlands, the legendary home of the Dutch, are below sea level, except of course for the bits that aren't. This land was created by the Dutch themselves, thus disproving the idea that the land was created by any divine entity such as God.

Dykes are usually to be found lying side by side along the line of a waterway. The only known legend about dykes is that of Hansje Brinker who alledgedly fingered a dyke to stop a flood. This is however now known to be false (see true); the real story being that Dick Van Dyke saved the world from the great flood by using an appalling mock cockney (Mockney) to distract god from drowning everyone.

This myth is considered silly by some but we should acknowledge that is it written in the bible and it is not for us to belittle others sincere religious beliefs.
