This article is the uncategorized version of the 1960s article. For the categorized one, see Category:1960s
The 1960s saw the sad Assassination of John Kennedy. But it didn't really matter since the Beatles came into Ed Sullivan's home to perform with all 300 million Americans watching the show. The 1960s could be considered by one as the best decade when you consider all of this. Everything in the 60s was awesome. The 90s are nothing compared to this.
Why do people give a fudge about Queen, Led Zeppelin, or MTV anyway? You claim songs by these band to be 60s songs. But you 90s kids are so goddamn wrong! 60s stuff involve the Beatles, Rolling Stones, the Monkees, and the Beach Boys. After December 31, 1969 on 12:59 PM, music really started sucking bums. Stop trying to be 60s kids, Millenials. Just accept that your decade is worse than the 60s.
For many, the 60s is the best decade. Even for those born in 1966 or after despite them clearly not knowing what happened.
The early part of the 60s (1960-1961) were similar to the 1950s and some even consider this part as the 50s as well. The better part (1962—1971) was the real 60s we've come to love today with Funky rock, colour television (unless if you're Australia), awesome music even with drugs, funny jokes, Sgt Pepper's, psychedelic music that wasn't controversial, the name "Don" being used a lot, Generation X starting, and the Beatles.. 1970 to 2000 was similar to the 60s in one way or another, except with Nickelodeon and worse Music. It is known that the 70s (1970-1979) was also decent since 60s culture remained intact through the decade, but it lasted until the 80s (1980-1989), when people were starting to get angry at jokes, the USSR was dying, and music didn't help either.
The 60s was very important for humanity as it was such a change for decades before and after. The world said goodbye to Elvis and hello to the Beatles in this decade. The 60s also paved the way for many art styles to become popular among the masses. Although some 1940s culture remained such as vinyls which was succeeded by Cassettes at the end of the decade.
The 60s was the time for television as lots of media producers began on a quest to find what the daily watcher wants. Perhaps the most popular type of TV shows was animation, which allowed The Flintstones and The Jetstones to exist.
It was also a great year for movies such as Psycho 2001: A Space Odyssey, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, Dr Strangelove, True Grit and many more.
Any 60s Kid will know that back in their time, Technology was actually advancing, not being the same thing over and over again. Even better, no-one had the internet, so Social Media didn't ruin anyone's lives. Plus you wouldn't have stupid memes flooding your recommended page, because you didn't even have one. Infact, to use technology, you had to actually put in the effort to try.
“Seriously? In 50 years, they go from Sgt. Peppers to this crap? Gosh, I don't wanna see what comes after anymore... I'm gonna hide...”
- ~ 60s Kid on the 60s compared to Nowadays
Music is what made everyone love the 60s.
A pioneer of music in the 60s was The Beatles. You're not a 60s kid if you don't know The Beatles. They recorded hits like I Want To Hold Your Hand, Yellow Submarine, and I Am The Walrus. They RULED the earth pretty much.
The Rolling Stones were also at it's peak in the 60s with albums like Their Satanic Majesties Request or Aftermath
Here are some of the best albums that came from the decade:
- Please Please Me (1963)
- With the Beatles (1963)
- A Hard Day's Night (1964)
- Beatles for Sale (1964)
- Help! (1965)
- Rubber Soul (1965)
- Revolver (1966)
- Sgt. Pepper's (1967)
- Magical Mystery Tour (1967)
- White Album (1968)
- Yellow Submarine (1969)
- Abbey Road (1969)
Everyone knows that the 60s had the best art styles. The 60s had styles like Pop Art, Black and White, and Sepia. The Yellow Submarine Movie was another favorite of many. The 60s were the time of art, when you didn't have Social Media.
Here are some examples of 60s wonderful art:
- The Beatles Cartoon: While a little cheesy, this freshly-painted and cute cartoon that aired from the Mid to Late 60s, brought art to the Fab Four, being a style that remained with many over the years.
- Classical painting: Despite advancement, old styles of painting remained to still appease older generations.
- Hitler Painting: Believe it or not, Hitler tried to paint once, but it didn't last long.
- Leonardo Da Vinci: Da Vinci's work is some of the finest. If you don't think so, you're not a 60s kid.
The 60s ended on January 1, 1970 at 1:00 AM. It was a sad moment in history.
A usual 60s kid would be a fan of 60s rock band, especially the Beatles. 60s kids also think that modern music sucks bumholes compared to the old Beatle music.
Most 60s kids get nostalgic for things they grew up with for the decade and are noted for.
Culturally, many 60s kids do not have memories of World War II and grew up with 60s pop-culture, though some can recall memories of the 1960 US Presidential Election. 60s rock bands, however, have been more important.
Many 60s kids continue to watch TV to this day, and like to watch re-runs of 60s TV shows.
