I'd like to formally propose to Codeine's mum. No, wait, that wasn't what I wanted to do...

Personally, I favour the deletion of all vanity pages and schoolcruft except those which are about something undeniably notable; by which I mean stuff that even my mother would have heard of.

I'd like to formally propose (even though it looks like we all want that) that we adopt a similiar policy of "No, unless Codeine's Mum might have possibly heard of it." The reasons for such a policy have been hashed out on and off again on this site. My primary reasons that this is a good policy are that it:

A) Avoids potential legal trouble.

B) Avoids flamewars and revertwars which occasionally spill into the rest of the site.

C) Keeps stupid shit off our site.

D) Frees up VFD for more important articles.

E) Uncyclopedia is an Encyclopedia. If you want a fansite, there are tons of places to have one, not limited to Myspace, LiveJournal, Facebook, ED, GeoCities, etc.

The issue in making an article about my mum is not whether she's heard of herself or not. It's how much the creator of any such article wishes to retain the ability to walk, dress and feed themselves unaided. -- Sir Codeine K·H·P·B·M·N·C·U·Bu. · (Harangue) 11:52, 26 September 2006 (UTC)
• I just said it would kick ass. Maybe a section in mother could be written about the world's smartest mom. She is, isn't she? I like walkin', dressin' like Fidel Castro, and eatin' just fine. If anyone should right it, it should be only Codeine & editted by Codeine. Protected page if you will. I may not know Codeine's mother but I would still like to meet her & know 'bout her & tell her that she raised a fine adminstrator. I know, it's still vanity. 12:13, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

• AGAINST: Wow, I get to be the only person voting against this proposal. Anyway, my reasons are simple; sometimes people need to vent, I consider it a bit of a public service that we allow them to do so and I am strongly opposed to blanket deletion policies. Although the articles that tend to be created tend to be crap and we all know how much I hate crappy articles, I think we should still judge the articles on quality instead of just having a blanket deletion policy. --Sir gwax (talk) 16:05, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

## Discussion as to what Codeine's Mum might have heard of

• I'd guess with one or more college age children, most major colleges and universities. Probably not most high schools or primary/elementary schools or private boarding schools. Most major bands, not garage bands with a shitty-looking page on MySpace.
• Could we have Codeine's Mum replace or supplement Peer Review? Reviews like "I read your page and, in my opinion, it needs to contain more information about something of which I have heard." would be cool.-- 05:15, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
• ZOMG! What if Codeine's Mom has never heard of Uncyclopedia?. -- 16:36, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
It depends on whether Codeine father tells Codeine to, "You should cawl your mutha moah often, maybe?".-- 17:51, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
• I like to think Codeine's mom hung out with Andy Warhol at the Factory for a few years, dropped out of sight to concentrate on her career but then made a big comeback in the late 70s and early 80s, managing the early New York punk scene and discovering Basquiat. But that's just me.--Procopius 01:21, 25 September 2006 (UTC)

• Ok, I really just want to tell some pissed off user that I deleted their page because "Codeine's mum hasn't heard of you". That'd be fucking haliarious. 01:41, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
Surely it would be "Codeine's mum" proposal? Being british and all. But whatever, I think a UN:CM policy would be a good idea. Spang 05:23, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
Yes, but both the site's founders and the idiot highly trained, intelligent admin who started this post are American, so it has been spelt with an "o". Feel free to move it. ~ 06:23, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
God, you damn pedantic bitches. Or does "bitches" have a "u" in it somewhere? 13:45, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
It does in Canada. -- 16:37, 24 September 2006 (UTC)

I updated Uncyclopedia:Vanity Policies to reflect this change. If a boatload of people suddenly vote against, we can revert. But I highly doubt that will happen. 18:50, 24 September 2006 (UTC)

Do I hear...Vanity Fire Week? --  Holla | CUN 02:25, 25 September 2006 (UTC)
Famine, I'd like to request that any article that fails two or less of the Codeine's Mum Test criteria get slapped with {{vanity2}}. I've made extensive modification to that template so that it works as an effective NRV. —Correspondent Hin Arash, PRAA [TALK] [KUN] (04:15, 25 September 2006 (UTC))
I fixed a bit of the wording, but it needs a better parting gift....humm....now that's better. If I had time, I'd help search things out. At the moment, I'll let y'all tag the articles, and I'll do the easy work. 22:26, 25 September 2006 (UTC)
I don't get this template, surely vanity will still be vanity in a week, unless the entire article is changed, in which case you might as well delete it? Spang 11:51, 26 September 2006 (UTC)
It allows for an entire week of maniacal laughter before deletion, instead of merely 15 seconds. Or maybe it allows an article about Bumfuck college, filled with text like "my psychology professor Dr. james is a weeiner" to evolve into a decent article. Ok, so it's about the drawn-out maniacal laughter. At least I tried to come up with something else... 00:26, 27 September 2006 (UTC)

## Fuck off

Uhh... I believe I proposed this very thing ages ago... here. -- 02:43, 24 September 2006 (UTC)

Was there ever any formal acceptance of it? It's been proposed more than once. I want to make it official, so we start doing it. All the time. 02:50, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, but I was the first. -- 02:56, 24 September 2006 (UTC)

I hear that she's got it going on. Stacy must be Codeine's sister's name. 03:08, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
I think the important thing is that Stacy has to realize that she's just not the girl for me. I know it might be wrong, but I actually sort of like this "Codeine's Mom" concept. Besides, since her daddy left, she could use a guy like me, not to mention a wiki like this one... But regardless, Codeine is British, isn't he? Does that mean we have to keep articles about the Tunbridge Wells Academy for Incorrigible Boys?  c • > •  04:19, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
Oi there is nothing wrong with Tunbridge Wells Academy for Incorrigible Boys I didn't attend but many of my chums from Primary School did! You mean Notre Dame isn't in Paris? I read a book in Grade 10 French all about some ugly guy and this hot chick and this big bell. And I'm certain it was set in Paris! -- 16:40, 24 September 2006 (UTC)

## What'choo say about my momma?

I will deal with each and every one of you accordingly. -- Sir Codeine K·H·P·B·M·N·C·U·Bu. · (Harangue) 19:02, 24 September 2006 (UTC)

Now Now Codeine... play nice with your friends or I'll lock you in your bedroom again. --Codeine's Mum
Take that anger out on Category:Vanity. We're like 2 votes away from it being official. 19:11, 24 September 2006 (UTC)

She might be an even more effective limit. Not that she would have a funnier name (after all, "Dawg's Mum" or "Wolf's Mum" just doesn't have the same ring).

Really, what I'm trying to say is we should just have a middle-aged-mum clause on all Vanity. If the random admin's mom hasn't heard of some vanity article subject, we can huff it.

However, we also need some kind of exception clause for great works, like the WJU series. » Brig Sir Dawg | t | v | c » 23:44, 25 September 2006 (UTC)

Not sure that WJU would run afoul of this policy. Lacking the ability to ask Codeine's mum, I checked google, (lots of hits) wikipedia, (it's got a page) at least some admins have heard of it, and it's funny. Now each individual listed on the pages isn't necessarily famous, but the organization as a whole doesn't count as vanity, in my opinion.
And 95% of the reason I suggested "Codeine's Mum" was for the sheer silliness of it all. Sure, we could have a "Does your average 52 year old accountant know what this is" clause, but it's not nearly as sexy silly as Codeine's Mum.
In addition, this sort of terminology highlights what I see as gray areas - things like GameFAQs, Kingdom of Loathing and ZFGC. No, Codeine's mom probably hasn't heard of them. (Unless she goes there to pwn n00bs) Yes, they show up on google. And maybe they have a wikipedia page. But do these cross the line for vanity?
...Heh, what am I worrying about...Delete them all. I almost tried to save something there. I need another drink... 00:10, 26 September 2006 (UTC)
As Famine pointed out, I think it's implied in the "CM" clause; certainly what I meant in the original post was that for vanity/schoolcruft to be acceptable, it should be known to any of our mothers. My mum's just cooler than any of yours, is all[1] -- Sir Codeine K·H·P·B·M·N·C·U·Bu. · (Harangue) 00:16, 26 September 2006 (UTC)
The crucial question is: Has Codeine's Mum heard of this thread? --Olipro Anchor KUN (Harass) 23:22, 29 September 2006 (UTC)
1. No really, she is.
